Linking EXE to EXE with captivate standalone

hi,
i've a problem.
i've done a standalone project with captivate but there are
some links to external EXE that i would open in a parent
target..while my main EXE is just running..AND NOT IN THE BROWSER
as it is.
if it's more simple to link to external SWF (and not exe) to
have this effect let me say..i could do also in this way.
please, it's very important for me.

Just to make sure I understand you correctly - you have links
to external EXEs - and when a user clicks one of those links - you
want the external EXE to open in the Parent window? And, you want
the original movie to keep playing?

If you just select yes and proceed the captivate file runs fine and you can complete the training. Our goal is to be able to publish in this format because it's more stable than the PDF or HTML option but we don't want users to experience this error from the start.

Hi, I've been trying to attach an image for the error message we get but not matter what I do it gives me an error and won't let me attach the image. Any suggestions or do you have an email I can send them too. The error message may be a little different than what I sent previously, it seems to give a different error message on different computers. But we are currently trying to create a new release of our training program so this should be the most current error message and the error message people will see when they open it on their PC's. I hope this makes sense. Let me tell you a little more about how our training is set up. We load the training on to a USB stick that includes a menu, the training modules, and a shortcut. Once the USB is downloaded on to the users PC they can select a shortcut icon for the training. Once they select the training shortcut it opens a menu that they can select training from. When they select on the desired training this is when they would receive these error messages. Our current release is in a HTML format, but because of this format the training interacts with the web browser and causes us problems so we were hoping to publish in exe and the training wouldn't open in a web browser.

Linking swfs or exe files?

I need help with a Flash AS3 project that includes about 30 videos. I needed to break it in smaller pieces because it is a large file (over 300 mb) and every time I wanted to publish the entire project flash crashed.
Here is my test:
I have two exe files that should link back and forth.
Intro_YIM.exe, which has a button that links to Videos_FrontPage_YIM.exe
Here is my code, which is in Intro (button name= nav_4).

The link seems to work, but there is a message that says save or run. When I click run, there is another message that says the file can't be open.
Questions:
1. Is there a better way to handle links using executable files using Flash CS5 and AS3?
2. If swfs were used, how can I have a main page displaying all other swfs as they are linked?

Yes, initially I thought that exe files was the way to go. However, I've been searching for options and found that by using the class Loader, I can load swfs files instead of exe files.
Here is what seems to work with only swf file:

Problem: I have a interface, which loads all other files by way of buttons. For instance, nav_4 button loads the file Videos_FrontPage.swf. When this movie loaded, the interface was also gone.
How can I keep the same interface and still be able to load all other movies?

We have a server 2008 R2 HyperV server and during the last few months it started to reboot randomly.
Initially we thought its related to the issue fixed by the following hotfix so we applied it but even with the hotfix it still keeps rebooting.

Unlike what's mentioned in the hotfix , the faulting module is not "ntdll.dll" but "msvcrt.dll".Also came up with the following indication the reboots could be related to KB2871997 but that update is not installed
on this system.

Hi Sir,
Please try the following items:
1. if ther is anti-virus installed , please uninstall it temporarily
2. run " sfc /scannow "
3. keep windows up-to-date
4. if you updated some hardware driver please roll it back
5. if the issue persists , please use windows installation media to perform inplace-upgrade for the system

How to create a flash menu that links to specific slides with in a Captivate swf

I was wondering if someone could step by step explain how to
create a menu in flash that links to specific slides with in a
captivate swf. I understand that there is a rdcmndGotoSlide
command. I can't seem to get it to work.

We are installing Dialog instance of CRM 5.0 on windows 2003 server. Central instance is located on AIX 5.3 server. Database we are using is DB2. During the installation first 8 steps out of 10 have been successfully. We are facing error in "Install Instance Basics" step. Service not started is the message.

Hi,
we were having the very same problem, and after a while we figured it out.
Check if user SAPServiceJ2E and user j2eadm are part of the group Administrators in your windows (in windows2000 look for computer manager/local users and groups)
In our case they weren't, we add them to Administrators group and bypassed this error.

I am failing to digitally sign Adobe Flash projector exe files.
Adobe Flash Projector EXE files signed with Authenticode digital signatures do not launch and run successfully.
It is not currently possible to directly sign a Flash Projector EXE file. Doing so is causing the projector to fail to launch or run.
What is the way to do it without involving 3rd party tool

I searched for this in our bug database, but the only bug I found was reported (and deferred) back in 2008. Other than using 3rd party tools, it doesn't look like this is possible. I'd recommend opening a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com. Please post back with the URL or bug number so others can vote and add their comments.

Dalvik's and re-partitioned and formatted again, to my surprise it still have the same problem.
So I ask Mr. Goo' old Mr. Google for answer, but I've found more complications, sorry for the story, so without further a do, the solution.
Boot to safe mode. (may also work in "normal mode")
Go to Task Manager>
Click the Services Tab>
Right click "HelpPane.exe" or Help and support service>
Select Properties>
Click the Security tab>
Click the Advanced tab (for permissions options)
Then select the "permissions entries" one at a time>
Click Change Permissions>
Then click Edit>
CLEAR ALL THE CHECK BOX FOR ALL ENTRIES
This should prevent access to the HelpPane.exe to all users/programs.
This resolved my friends Windows 7 "Help and Support thingy" issue, hope it does yours too.

PowerBuilder freezing with Captivate 3

I had the same problem when I bought Captivate 2 and followed
this advice:
Quit Adobe Captivate 2.
Choose Start > Run.
Type regedit and then press OK.
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\2
Double click the string ExesToIgnoreClickEvent.
Change the value from AcroRd32.exe|Acrobat.exe|PB105.EXE to
AcroRd32.exe|Acrobat.exe|{my pb executable} and then press OK.
Double click the string ExesToIgnoreShowFocusLocChangeEvents.
Change the value from PB105.EXE to {my pb executable} and
press OK.
Captivate 2 works fine after having made these changes. I
downloaded the trial version of Captivate 3 last week to see if
it's worth upgrading and my PowerBuilder app locks up with the very
first click (with Captivate 3 recording) even though I've changed
the file info as described above.
Any other advice?

are asking for help with five separate issues in one thread, and
you are not including any detail at all about those individual
issues. Unless you just want to "vent", you need to isolate a
specific problem, then give us as much detail as possible about the
events and objects that might be related to that problem. Help us
help you, please.

single-slide preview, or are you previewing the entire project or
what? Or are you previewing it in your web-browser? What

later, doesn't? Do you mean Flash SWFs inserted into the project,
or animations taken from Captivate's own "gallery", or do you just
mean the "flow of the mouse movements in the movie" when you say

How do I turn off background ni file activity when not using Labview? I use labview rarely, and I also use my computer for demanding multimedia applications, including multitrack digital audio recording. I need to reduce as much background activity as possible, and taking a look with task manager I see files such as nimxs.exe, nipalsm.exe, nipalsm.exe, nisvcloc.exe, and nicitdl5.exe running even when I haven't used Labview (8 I believe). These files run even after I right click the NI icon on the lower right and turn off the application. I would like the computer to boot up without these files, and for the necessary files to be activated only when I start the program.
Can this be done or do I have to remove labview from the system to improve performance?

Hello, those processes are part of running NI services that start when Windows boots. These processes serve varied purposes and stopping them can have undefined and unknown consiquences for your NI products. These products run at "normal" priority meaning that they should be preempted by any process running at a higher priority which I would expect your other application to be doing given their time sensitivity. That being said, in Windows XP (I can't speak for other OSes), you can lower their priorities even greater through task manager (right click the process»set priority) to further remove them from contention for resources. If you want to prevent them from running you can set the service startup type to "manual" in Control Panel»Administrative Tools»Services. Right click the process go to Properties and Under the General tab choose Startup Type»Manual. This will start up the processes only when something directly starts it up. LabVIEW will start these processes up as it attempts to use them. When you shut down LabVIEW you will need to manually shut down these processes through task manager. Again, doing this can cause problems with your NI products on your system and it is not advised.

Linking to external video in Captivate 7

I develop video-based training. Each slide includes mostly video. I've been successfully embedding f4v videos into Captivate projects for some time but video quality and file size issues make it necessary to begin linking to videos on external servers.
I've tried a number of options without success.
I create a video event, choose the url option, and add the url from the uploaded video. The only usable server choice is the Adobe Media Streaming Service. I've tested the videos on different servers including Amazon since the troubleshooting advice alerted me that only Adobe partners servers will be recognized. The project previews and the progress bar moves as if the video is playing but only the background file is visible. I tried all the preview options - no luck.
I decided to try the YouTube widget. I uploaded test videos to YouTube, inserted the Interaction widget and added the url, etc. This option results in a successful preview only when I choose the html 5 output in web browser option. Captivate will successfully publish the project but I get "Java Script Error unable to acquire LMS, API content, may not play properly" messages.
The published file performs like all of the unsuccessful previews. The file loads and acts as if the videos are playing in that the progress bar moves but there is no video, just the slide background image. I tried different output settings like just SWF, just html5, both SWF and html5, different versions of the flash player, etc. I also added the output folder to the Flash Global Security settings in case it was a permissions issue.
I'm working on a mac so I emailed a zipped file to my PC and tried to open in Internet Explorer to see if the file might play on a different system or browser - same outcome - no luck.
Making external video work is critical to my work and use of Captivate so I'm hoping there's something I'm missing or misunderstanding about what I need to do.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.

I'm continuing to have problems with the YouTube widget. My client sent me YouTube links and when I copied and pasted the new links into the Captivate file and the published and uploaded the file, the links didn't work.
To review, I uploaded video files to YouTube and used the interactions widget to insert the linked videos. The videos which I uploaded can be previewed in html5 in web browser but not in any other way. When I publish this file and view the file on my system on my browser (Safari) the file opens but the videos do not play. However, when I upload to my ftp site and open the file from there, the linked YouTube videos play.
So this led me to believe that I have a file that will work at least in html5 output. But when I replace the original YouTube links that I uploaded with new links provided by my client the videos preview in html5 in web browser mode but do not play on my system or when uploaded to my ftp site. All of the videos (mine and my clients) play in YouTube and preview in html5 mode.
Additionally, when I ouput the html5 file, the quiz doesn't work properly. The radio buttons don't appear on screen so when answers are selected the user has no way of knowing their selections have been accepted. Oddly, the quiz is registering answers since when you submit there is a brief flash during which you can see the buttons but they quickly disappear and results are tallied accurately at the end. But the quiz is unusable without user feedback for selections. You can view this performance beginning on the sixth slide (the beginning of the quiz).

My Relative links no longer work in Captivate 7

My Relative links no longer work in Captivate 7. They worked in the 5.5 versions of the exact same lessons. But they do not work after saving and re-publishing in Captivate 7. What's up with that? Any suggestions?
Just found out from Adobe it's a reported bug that is not yet resolved...

This is typically an issue of setting the web preference in the WINDOWS preferred programs. In Win7 this is accessed from Control Panel>Default Programs>Set Program Access...>Custom. Maybe these options will give you an idea of the problem.
