Linking to a SPECIFIC place in a document
Hello,
I am wanting to link from specific text in one document to a specific location in another document. I have created Named Anchors in the document that I want to specific text to link to. The code is listed below:
<span class="style2">CHS 314</a><a name="CHS314" id="CHS314"></a> - Introduction to Native American Studies - Spring 2006:</a></span>
I have used the Point to File method with both documents open (tiled vertically) to point from the text (in the document mission statement.html) to the Named Anchor (in the document Research Papers.html). Here is the code:
<a href="Research Papers.html#CHS314">critical discussion of works of literature </a>
The problem is that when I test this code in FireFox and IE, it opens to the PAGE (Research Papers.html) but NOT to the SPECIFIC LOCATION (the named anchor) #CHS314 on the page.
I am wanting to and need to use the text on one page to point to specific courses on another page. It doesn't really do me any good to open the page, without going to a specific location on the page.
Am I missing something in the instructions on how to accomplish this task????
You sage wisdom and expertise greatly appreciated.
I don't think you're getting the picture. They are talking about having enough content on a page that will cause a browser with a viewport shorter than the content to scroll. When your content is too short to scroll, it is not difficult to find the place in the page you linked to - particularly with your naming scheme. We are talking about browser scrolling functions, not CSS.
A couple of screen shots to illustrate (click to enlarge, if you want to):
In the above grab, the browser's viewport is taller than the content (excluding your top banners and menus). It did its best to scroll to CHS314, but hit the bottom of the page.
The above grab shows that a shorter browser viewport was able to scroll your link to the top, because there was enough content to scroll there without hitting the bottom of the page.
Does that help?

I want to link to a specific place within a document from Captivate4
Hi all,
I want to link to a specific place within a document from Captivate4.
I have no trouble linking to the beginning of a document; however I want to be able to link to a specific chapter/area of a document I am creating. My plan is that as people progress through the e-learning they can link back to the electronic manual I am creating from where they left off.
I have a workaround of creating separate documents and linking to them, but this is time consuming and messy.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do; I have looked around the forums and, unless I am blind, can't find anything like I am looking for.
Cheers

How do I link to a specific place on a "different" page?
I understand how a Named Anchor works on a given page. How do I click a link on one page, and go to a specific place on another page? Can that be done?

Create a link to a specific spot in PDF document
Is it possible to create a link from a Table of Contents item to a specific heading on a page within the same document. So far from what I've read and what I've tried I can only link to a specific page but not a specific section on that page. Is that possible? If so how to I do that? It's basically the same idea as HTML anchor links within the same HTML page. So if you have a links up top you can create named anchors for the destination spot later on down the page. I tried using the destinations in Acrobat also but it seems to also only point to the page, not the specific area on a page.
If anyone knows if that's possible, could you either show me how to do it or point me to a tutorial online that shows how to do that. I've searched and searched but just cannot seem to find anything. Maybe I'm not using the right keywords to search. You can either link to an existing named destination or a view that you establish when you create the link. A named destination is a combination of a page and the view settings (e.g., fit width, fit visible, 200% zoom and scrolled 1/4 way down the page, etc.)
When you add a new named destination, go to the page you want and set up the display of the page to what you want. Give the named destination a meaningful/descriptive name.
When you create the link that you want to target a named destination, select an action of "Go to a page view" and set it to the current view. You then have to go and edit the action and select "Use Named Destination" and select from the list of named destinations in the document.
You do not need to set up named destinations to link to a specific area of a page, but they are helpful when linking from other documents or systems, particularly if the document that's linked to changes with any frequency.
To set up the same type of link without using named destinations, just add a new link and when you're presented with the "Create Link" dialog, select "Go to a page view" and navigate to the corresponding page, set the view you want, and click the "Set Link" button. -
Linking to specific page in pdf document
I'm trying to link to a specific page within a pdf document
using the following syntax:
https://uhaul.net/publications/publication.ashx?FileName=MB197.pdf#page=3
However, the pdf opens to the first page, instead of to page
3 (which is what I want). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. You can only do this if the attachment is a PDF file. Here are the help instructions that explain how to create a link in the main PDF document that jumps to the PDF attachment.

Permanent link to specific version of a document
When ‘Sharing’ documents is it possible to issue (say for emailing to someone) a permanent link to the document i.e. one which is locked to the version and not one that changes or fails if a new version is subsequently added?
There appears to be two groups of document links in SharePoint, the current version and previous versions.
The current document version is referenced by a canonical path:
http://site/document library/document.doc
A prior document version is referenced from a revision path. But this only works for non-current versions:
http://site/_vti_history/versionID/document.doc (Where versionID is generated by SharePoint)
Therefore every time a new document revision is created the contents of the canonical path will change. The canonical path will point to the new document version while the previous version of the document is only available with the revision path.
Therefore it is not possible to create a permanent link to a version of the document if at the time of issuing it is the current version.Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a permanent link to specific version of a document.
If a new version is created, the contents of the canonical path will change. Although the version number will increase, the previous version number will not change.
If you want version 1.0, then the URL for this version will always be
http://site/_vti_history/512/document.doc.

Linking to specific place in newsletter
Hello:
I am trying to find out how to link from an email digest to a specific place in our newsletter. The newsletter page will have several stories on it, which can be read by scrolling down. I would like to email a digest with brief synopsis of the stories, which will link back to the exact story on the newsletter page, not just the newsletter page itself.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Chip MitchellYou could use anchors, then set the links to those specific anchors.

Trying to link buttons to specific text in document
I'm on a mac using Adobe InDesign CS6. I have been slowly getting into converting our newspaper into a digitial interactive document including buttons to different content, hyperlinks, etc.
My dilemma is I want to create buttons that will link directly to the text in a document, not just the page the text is on.
What I am currently doing is creating a bookmark for each page, then making text anchors within each bookmarked page for each story (usually placing the cursor at the beginning of the headline).
When I go to create the buttons to link to these stories, I am using "Go To Destination" and then choosing the appropriate text anchor. But when I go to output my document and preview the interactive form, the buttons are just linking to the page the text is on and not to the text directly.
I'm sure I must be missing something. Any help? This could be as simple as a zoom setting. When in acrobat if you zoom in, say to 200%, and then click the link, does it go to the page or the paragraph?
You detailed things fairly clearly above but to be sure, when you set the text anchor, did you set it as a text anchor and not URL or page? When you do this it should add it as a destination so you won't see it in the Hyperlinks panel. Then with the button, ensure it's the correct text anchor and set the zoom level to whatever you would like - inherit would take the current zoom setting from Acrobat when the document is opened. I can't test on CS6 but CS5.5 seems to do this fairly well - the zoom setting to me made it look like it went to the page and not the text. -
On my Mac Pro how can I get voiceover to start reading at a specific point in a document, and then continue on to the next paragraph and so on? Thank you. Ed
Welcome to the Apple family!!!!
How can I cause the VO cursor(box) show-up/start?
Press Control-Option and F5. The F5 key is located on the top row of keys 6th key over. This is a toggling "Keyboard Shortcut" for turning VoiceOver on and off.
How can I move the VO cursor to various sentences or paragraphs of an article and have it start reading ... and perhaps even continue reading on to the next paragraph(s) ... even to the end of the article?
How to read a website with VoiceOver
Step 1: Go to the Website
A quick keyboard shortcut is Command-L. This will jump you up to the address bar. Start typing where you want to go. i.e "www.thewebsite.com"
Step 2: Working with Webpage
VoiceOver will automatically start reading the website. You can pause the speech by hitting the 'Control Button'.
If VoiceOver does not being reading the webpage, then you might have to "Interact" with it. If VoiceOver say "HTML Content" then press Control-Option-Space-Down Arrow to interact with the webpage.
Use Control-Option-Right Arrow to move throught the website. This will speak "EVERYTHING" on the page.
Most website that I've found have their articles labeled as 'Heading'. You can jump from heading to heading, by pressing Control-Option-Shift-H.
If you'd like an itemized alphabetical listing of the site, press Control-Option-I
Press Control-Option-Space on the link or article you want to view.
Step 3. Reading from Top to Bottom
Once you found and clicked on the the article/link, use the same 'Heading' command, Control-Option-Shift-H to find the title.
After finding the title, press Control-Option-A will start reading from the title on.
Note: If there are any other items (ads, pictures, etc) it will read those too.
Tip: You might be able to activate a feature called the 'Reader'. The Reader isolates the article and elimanates the ads The keyboard command is Shift-Command-R. You can also find it in the Menu Bar (Command-Option-M) under the word 'View' then 'Show Reader'.
I am using a MACPro with OSX, probably Mavericks 10.9 (where would I look to see if that is the correct information?)
You can find this information under the 'Apple menu' in the Menu Bar. To access the Menu Bar, press Control-Option-M.
Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac. This will open up another window. Use Control-Option-Right Arrow until you hear 'Version'. If you purchased it brand new from Apple within the last six month, more than likely you have Mavericks.
Recommanded Articles.

The 'Commands Help' Voiceover Menu. Control-Option-H-H. (hit H twice) is my best friend. It's a searchable VoiceOver Menu with most of the VoiceOver command. Example: You are looking for the 'Read Current Paragraph' keyboard command. Press Control-Option-H-H and then type Paragraph. It will then bring up all the commands with the word paragraph. I believe there are three.
As from the Trackpad Commands, I've copied and pasted below from Appendix A: Commands and Gestures
VoiceOver standard gestures
If you’re using a Multi-Touch trackpad, you can use VoiceOver gestures. VoiceOver provides a set of standard gestures for navigating and interacting with items on the screen. You can’t modify this set of gestures.

Linking to a specific location in a web page is not working
Hello,
I am using anchor tags for linking to a specific location in a web page . This Page contains some images(.bmp).
Eg:
<h2><a name="exactline">Linking Directly to a Specific Location</a></h2>
<a href="http://www.example.com/some-page-or-other.aspx#exactline">Click here</a>
Whenever I click on the link it moves to specific location but when the page get loaded completely , top of the page is being displayed.
My question is how can I make this link redirects directly to the particular section and stays there even after the page loads fully.
ThanksHi ,
When you click your link "Click here", the SharePoint web page with anchor will not work until refresh the page, if it's the case, you can add the javascript code to refresh the page automatically as workaround per the following similar post.

http://yalla.itgroove.net/2012/05/anchor-links-tags-in-sharepoint-2010/
<script type="text/javascript">
setTimeout(Reload,2000);
function Reload()
window.location.hash=self.document.location.hash.substring(1);
</script>

Can I add an internal link in a Pages 5.5.2 Document
In previous versions of Pages I could add a link from a word in my document to, say, a topic in a different place in the document. Either I've forgotten how to do it or the ability has gone away. Can someone help?
Thank you for the (sad) information. When I try to open my document that I had already updated in v5 with v4.3 it says it can't be opened because the required index.xml file is missing. Any idea how to get around that?

How to place a word document that autoflows text boxes onto every other page?
Is there a way to place a word document into InDesign that autoflows text boxes onto every other page?
Example
page 1 from word doc imports to page 1 in indesign,
page 2 from word doc imports to page 3 in indesign,
page 3 from word doc imports to page 5 in indesign, etc.
Than, take a different word doc and import to the even pages of the same indesign document,
Example
page 1 from word doc#2 imports to page 2 in indesign,
page 2 from word doc#2 imports to page 4 in indesign,
page 3 from word doc#2 imports to page 6 in indesign, etc.
ThanksI don't import Word docs... but I don't think there is a simple 1-click solution.
You probably need to set up a facing pages document with a master text frame on each.
Create the pages you need and link the left text frames to each other and the right to each other.
Importing should work from there however not sure how the page-break works (if you have that set-up in Word). -
Button link to a specific frame in time line
Ok I have created my buttons and the content for the specific
frames. I have named the button and given it an instance name. I
have also given my specific frame a name and set that label type to
Name.
Whats the code for turning getting my button to link to a
specific frame?
I've also done the stop() code in each frame as I want it to
stop at each frame until the button is clicked again.
I have more than one button and each will link to a different
frame.
Thanks.I've duplicated an FLA with exactly the assets you have in
the same places, with the code on the main timeline. And mine
didn't work, just the same problem as you had. The solution I
proposed above works, but it is not the only way (See #2 below).
On Frame 1, select the UIScrollbar. if you look in the
Parameters tab of your UIScrollbar component, you'll notice that
the
scrolltargetName refers to
Instance_0. This is a default instance name assigned by the
Flash compiler, because you did not give your dynamic textfield an
instance, and your UIscollbar is referencing that. Now go to Frame
4. You will find that your dynamic textfield has the same instance
name, and the UIScrollbar is referencing the same instance. Problem
is, you have more than one textfield on more than one frame using
and referencing the same instance name, your UIScrollbars will get
confused as to which textfield is actually "Instance_0". The moment
you click to another frame, you've confused the UIScrollbar(s), so
they never work again.
The solution is simple.
First, put a stop() action on the first frame, if you have
not already done so, so your timeline stays put until you click on
a button.
Then you can solve the problem in one of two ways:
Give your textfields different instance names, and make sure
the
scrolltargetName property of each UIScrollbar refers to its
respective textfield.
Or set the text dynamically, which after all is what a dynamic
textfield is for. Have only one textfield/UIscrollbar combo, on the
first frame, and place code on a keyframe for each section which
changes the
text or
htmlText property of the textfield.
That should work. It did on mine. -
Cable specification to connect the Document Camera to the CODEC CTS 3010
Hi to all,
I would like to know the cable specification to connect the Document Camera to the CODEC in a CTS 3010 and which way round it needs to go. As I understand it we need a DVI (Camera end) to HDMI (CODEC end) cable plus one CAT5/CAT6 cable. Can you please clarify?
Best regards,
AlbertoYes. There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections. I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it. Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work. I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup. Here is a link to tested / verified keyboards that work via the CCK: http://iosmidi.com/devices/
