Linux communication server
Hello
We need a Linux compatible package like Microsoft Office Communication server. It should be used for best webconferencing and presentation. It should have microsoft compatible clients. Could you please help me on this ?
Another big elephant in the room. The first product that pops up in my mind is Skype, although it was bought by Microsoft.
The following link could be interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_collaborative_software
Since this is an Oracle Forum, Oracle Beehive might be worth mentioning
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/beehive/overview/index.html
Searching for alternatives to Microsoft Lync (former Communication Server) leads also to eZuce.

narayana raohi,
I am trying to install oracle 9i rel2 on red hat adv server 2.1
Installation and Linking looks fine and during configuration ,

Linux VM server and VM network configuration
Hi,
I have a Oracle Linux 5 server with Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 software installed. I downloaded OEL5 x86 VM template and set it up using the netmask, DNS and default gateway of the VM server machine. Now I realize I cannot access the internet from inside this Virtual Machine. So I think the DNS and gateway is not correctly setup.
Please note that I can ssh the VM from VM server.
Can you please guide me as to what DNS and gateway I should use for configuring my VMs? Do I need to set up an IP alais with different DNS.
My VM server ip is (some values changed) 99.44.95.115, DNS 213.133.98.98, Def gateway 99.44.95.97 , netmask 255.255.255.224
So for my first VM I am using ip 99.44.95.98, DNS 213.133.98.98, Def gateway 99.44.95.97 , netmask 255.255.255.224
Am I doing anything wrong. I am completely new to Linux and networking. So I am still learning.
Just a general idea would take me a long way.
Regards
CPNetmasks are used to identify which portion of an IP address represents the network address and which portion represents the machine address. It affects your broadcast address and defines the range of addresses that you can communicate directly without the need of an IP gateway. You do not need an IP gateway to communicate with other hosts on the same subnet because they should be physically connected and hence receive each others broadcast in order to know how to translate IP to a machine address.
There are a couple of easy troubleshooting techniques. Like I mentioned in my previous post you can use the ping utility to check your IP communication. Open a terminal window and type e.g.: "ping 99.44.95.97". But make sure you do not have a firewall that block the ICMP protocol that the ping utility uses.
a) check if you can ping other machines on the same network.
You should be able to ping other hosts on the same subnet. If not, then you most likely have a problem with your IP configuration or network driver (hardware). Can you ping your own host? Is the network up?
b) check if you can ping the gateway.
If you cannot ping the gateway but a) works, then your IP gateway address is wrong or down.
c) check if you can ping the DNS.
Provided that a) and b) works, and you cannot ping the DNS server, then either the DNS address is wrong or down, or the IP gateway is not configured properly.
Please check the above in order to isolate the problem. The link to the Oracle documentation in the one of the previous replies will let you verify the vm.cfg file to check if you have configured bridged networking (default).
Posts about the same issue in different forums are usually not welcome here and the forum moderator might lock the thread. If you already have a thread I suggest you provide the link here in order for us to see what has already been done and make a note in the the old thread to continue here. -
Why READ_IMAGE_FILE is not working in Linux Appln Server?
Hello!
I have a form with a new_form_instance Trigger I wrote the read_image_file trigger to read a GIF file in an image item.It works fine on windows XP(development machine).I copied the GIF file to the same location where my fmx files are there in Linux application server.I copied and compilied my fmb file in linux application server. No compilation error is there. But when I run form from Linux the form hangs and my read_image_file command is at new form instance Trigger.I have checked the case sensitivity of the file and the permission etc in Linux. In windows Development machine the form runs successfully. What could be the problem. Please help.......
JayashreeHi
Incase if you find any server related error like "FRM-92101" happening on READ_IMAGE_FILE functionality, try to change the image item format from TIFF to BMP/JFIF.
Otherwise if you changed any Jinitiator or JRE Version, sign again for all the JAR Files and restart your server. -
Certificates issued by communications server for client authentication
Hi,
we ran into problem with those certificates, that are being issued by the lync server itself. In our enteprise we have CX600 and CX3000 phones, and i know that certificate authentication is required for the phones to work (both for registrar and webservice).
However, now that users have lync installed, they have their communications server certificate assigned as well. The problem is when a user needs to sign a document with the certificate from our private CA, for most of the users, word or excel suggests to
use a certificate issued by communications server, not our ent CA. Maybe there is a way for LYNC to trust private enteprise CA and not give out its own certificates and STILL use certificate authentication?
Thanks!Facing almost the same issue, Lync (server) issues ClientAuth certs from "Communication Server", (btw
is not trusted of course), and in turns forces users to make a selection of which VPN cert to use when dialing in, instead of only one ClientAuth cert installed, they now have 2 ClientAuth certs installed, which our internal CA's should care about and NOT
the Lync (server).
Don’t get how an MS product of this caliber can be built without proper PKI integration, how can it NOT utilize internally issued certs for client authentication???
Not the first though, SCCM and OSD is another example....
However, are you saying that Lync communication can’t be used without certificate authentication,
without the user being spammed with credential prompts?
Trying to get clarification on this… -
Can't Install Solution Manager on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 - JAVA
Hello everyone!
I've been trying to complete the pre-requisites in order to install Solution Manager SR2 on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 x64 - SP1.
There's only one last condition that I haven't met, and it's the Java Runtime Environment version...
I checked the recommended note 867110 and it says that i need to have installed the J2SDK 1.4.2_08.
SLES10 includes the 1.4.2_13, so I had to uninstall it, and download the right version from Sun Microsystem's official webpage.
When I installed the version 1.4.2_08, i'm not able to run SAPINST because there's no Java Runtime Environment running on the server.
I started to investigate and I found in some forums [NOT EXPLICITLY] that there's no port for J2SDK 1.4.2_08 on x64 linux systems.
I can't believe this is true because SLES10 is recommended by SAP to install Solution Manager, so I hope somebody can help me on this.
My specific question is: Does anybody know if is true that J2SDK 1.4.2_08 is NOT COMPATIBLE with x64 Linux?
In case of being true, is there any way to be able to run SAPINST ? because if I enable the version SLES brings built in, i'm able to run the SAPINST but it detects that i'm not running version 1.4.2_08 and doesn't allow me to continue installation.
I hope somebody can help me soon...
Regards!> SAPINST_JRE_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-s390-142/jre/bin:$PATH
>
> JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-s390-142/jre/bin:$PATH
You downloaded the wrong version - the one you have is for Z-Linux(Linux running on the mainframe - not for x64).
You need to download the x86_64 (or AMD64) version.
Install the correct one and try on a new console:
export JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
Then execute
java -fullversion
and it should show the correct version.

Linux install server and solaris 10
Hi,
I am trying to learn Solaris as a student. I bought a SPARC (Netra T105 UltrasparcII) server on ebay which requires a network install as there is no cd-rom, or keyboard.
I only have a linux box (like I said, I'm a stingy student) to use as an install server, there is a few tutorials out there to try and do this, but none for Solaris 10. I have the sparc server using RARP and then getting the /etc/bootparams file and downloading the boot files, but it does not get to locating the jumpstart files or the install files (I dont know if I can install from the terminal using the keyboard (without jumpstart) - I have not got that far yet).
I always get this, like it cannot find the install directory, I was wireshark on the linux boot server and see loads of NFS traffic after the TFTP download, but cannot seem to see what part it actually at. I have a detailed log at the bottom from putty. Any help greatly appreciated.Cheers

/sbin/install-discovery: information: not foundHmm. That looks like the image file is corrupt. Can you pull the image from media again? Can you see if there's a /sbin/install-discovery file in the image (usually under Tools/Boot/root). I recall there used to be a problem with that file.
Linux box setup:
/etc/bootparams

Those are for automated installations.
TFTP setup from /tftpboot:

/home/sunos_install *(ro,no_root_squash)
[root@robert tftpboot]# showmount -e localhost
Export list for localhost:
/home/sunos *
/home/sunos_install *That looks pretty good.
You do have the option of running VMware on linux, and putting a Solaris 10 image on it, then using that VM as your boot server. But the problem you're displaying doesn't appear to be related to the linux server.

How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server
I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
ThanksUnfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
or this method:
Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:

File Receiver channel, Append issue on Linux FTP server
Hi,
I have a File_ReceiverChannel_FTP_Order that is using the File Content Conversion message protocol.
I have setup the adapter to use File Construction Mode Append
When I run this on a windows FTP server, it is working as designed.
But when Im trying to use our Linux FTP server the append function does not work.
My adapter does not append but it is overwriting the content of the file!
Does any one know what to do about this?Hi
i think you need to change the protocol as the linux system understand the NFS .
Thanks

Read_image_file command does works on Linux application server
JayashreeFor me, attempting the following:
READ_IMAGE_FILE('bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif', 'GIF', 'IMAGE7');
gives this error:
FRM-47109: Cannot locate image file bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif
Changing my command to:
READ_IMAGE_FILE('bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif', 'URL', 'IMAGE7');
loads the image successfully.
If you truly are not getting an error message (mine appears in the status bar), then perhaps the file is being found, but the image format is not recognized or otherwise incompatible. Test this by loading one of the the images that load successfully into your iconic buttons. If that image loads successfully into your image item, fix the problem GIF image. (Recreate or open & resave with a graphics program, etc.)
If this does not appear to be the problem, the only things I can think of are for you to confirm that, in formsweb.cfg:
1. The archive_jini entry includes your image JAR
2. If imageBase=DocumentBase, change to imageBase=codebase
The second change may temporarily break your iconic buttons. This can be fixed by updating the buttons' Iconic Filename properties specifying only relative paths found within the JAR. Since my image is stored in the root of my JAR, no path need be specified. Had I placed my image in a subdirectory within my JAR, named images, my call would have to be changed to the following:
READ_IMAGE_FILE('images/bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif', 'URL', 'IMAGE7');
I'm not sure whether any of these suggestions will help, but since I had no problems, I suspect it's simply a matter of differing configurations. The two items that I listed are the only two likely differences I could think of.

Problems compiling and running 9i forms on 10g Linux app server
Hi all,
we are about to move our 9i developed forms application from W2k 9ias RL2 to a 10g linux application server. It seems that we are having very much trouble with the fact that file names are case-sensitive under linux. Our forms are designer-generated and afterwards modified using forms developer under win2k. Therefore these forms have designer plls attached (OFG*.pll). In addition, we use a few custom plls and an object library (*.olb). We managed to compile our fmbs to fmx using f90genm.sh on linux, but getting FRM-40735 and ORA-06508 errors at runtime. FORMS90_PATH in default.env is correct.
We took one fmb to narrow things down. Steps we took on development machine:
- Rename all plls to a format of uppercase name and lowercase extension (e.g. OFGBSL.pll)
- Reattach plls to the form
After that
- Move fmb and plls to linux machine
- compile the fmb without errors
At runtime, we get a ORA-06508 in a trigger that calls CGFK$LKUP_QRY.EXTEND_WHERE. This procedure is located in OFGTEL.pll. OFGTEL.pll has OFGMES.pll attached. We tried to compile OFGTEL.pll, but getting errors due to the fact that table CG_REF_CODES is not present in our db (we don't use it).
Other plls like OFGBSL.pll and our custom pll work well (proved by debugging).
Can anybody give us some hints or step-by-step instructions on how to move our application to linux, especially how to make OFGTEL.pll usable?
Thanks in advance

QoS for Live Communication Server/Video on LAN, WAN
Hi,
Imagine I need to deploy "Microsoft live communication server" or other type of video conferencing application on LAN and WAN throughout my organization.
What type of QoS mechanism should I approach? CBWFQ? How about LLQ?Hi,
have a look at "IP Videoconferencing Solution Reference Network Design (SRND)"
http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/netsol/ns280/c649/ccmigration_09186a00800d67f6.pdf
It covers among other things QoS in the WAN and in the Campus (LAN).
In the WAN LLQ would be advisable, LAN QoS depends strongly on your swtches QoS capabilities.
Hope this helps! Please use the rating system.

Connect Win Server 2008 R2 AD to linux ldap server
I have the need to do the opposite of what I am finding most users doing. Instead of connecting a remote linux ldap client to a windows server 2008 Active Directory server I need to connect my windows server AD to my linux ldap server. Once this connection
has been established I need for a user to be able to log in to the windows server and have their home directory on the linux box be mounted and available for the user to access their home directory and files.
I have also heard there might need to be some changes done on the ldap schema on the linux server to satisfy the windows AD. Is this true?
Does anyone have any information on how to configure the windows server (2008 R2) to do this? I am under the gun, time-wise, to get this implemented and working correctly. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.Hello,
please ask in your Linux LDAP forums to get these details.
If you have an AD question then please ask it here.

Hello to all, there are two confliting articles about this topic:
1-
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/upgrade-domain-controllers-to-windows-server-2008-r2(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_Whatsnew : this one says that it does not work "The Group Chat feature in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 does not work in Windows
Server 2008 R2 domains". This article was updated in 2013.
2-
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692314(office.13).aspx: this other article says that it will function "Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat will function in a Windows Server 2008 R2 forest". This article was updated in
2010 and was refered by the first one.
What is the correct support position for Group Chat feature in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 domains?
Regards, EEOC.Hi,
I notice the following sentence in the link below “Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Group Chat will not function in a Windows Server 2008 R2 forest or when Group Chat member servers are joined to a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain.
We know of an issue with changes in Windows 2008 R2 that requires a Group Chat Client and Group Chat Admin Tools hotfix. The Group Chat Client and Group Chat Admin Tools hotfixes are currently scheduled for mid-April 2010.”
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2010/11/06/supportability-for-office-communications-server-2007-r2-and-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx
So in my opinion, if you update to the latest version of Windows Server 2008 R2, OCS Server 2007 R2 and Group Chat Client, Group Chat Admin Tools to the latest version, it should work.
However, the best method for you is make a lab to test the problem firstly.
Best Regards,
