Linux logging to a log table
Bit off tag from the usual questions but i was wondering if
anyone had any ideas for tailing linux logs into an oracle
table. The end result would be mean easy analysis of system logs.
If anyone has tried this or jusst some ideas that would be
great - cheers

systemd-journal-gatewayd uses http. I'm not sure if that works with syslog (syslogd on FreeBSD, in my case), which uses UDP.

Change logs not available for tables
Hi Experts,
Is there any change logs available for the tables PCEC, FTXP, T030
We need to add logs so that we can keep track of the changes.
Please let me know if someone knows the solution.
Regards,
SrinivasDear Srinivas,
Go to SE11 and key in your table, then select Display.
In the top, you will be able to see Technical Settings Button. click on it.
It will show you the technical details for that table.
There will be an indicator at the bottom LOG DATA CHANGES.
If this indicator has been set, then only the changes will be recorded.
For change log, you shall make use of the transaction SCU3.
AUT10 shall also be used.
thank you

Materialized View - "use log" and its "master table" assigned
Oracle 10 g R2. Here is my script to create a mv, but I noticed two interestes properties by EM
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW "BAANDB"."R2_MV"
TABLESPACE "USERS" NOLOGGING STORAGE ( INITIAL 128K) USING INDEX
TABLESPACE "BAANIDX" STORAGE ( INITIAL 256K)
REFRESH FORCE ON COMMIT
ENABLE QUERY REWRITE AS
SELECT CM.ROWID c_rid, PC.ROWID p_rid, CM."T$CWOC", CM."T$EMNO", CM."T$NAMA", CM."T$EDTE", PC."T$PERI", PC."T$QUAN", PC."T$YEAR", PC."T$RGDT"
FROM "TTPPPC235201" PC , "TTCCOM001201" CM
WHERE PC."T$EMNO"(+)=CM."T$EMNO"
In EM, the MV list shows a column - "Can Use Log".
1. What does it mean?
2. Why it only says yes, when I used above codes to create the MV; but says "NO" when I created the MV by "OUT JOIN"? no matter is "LEFT.." or "RIGHT JOIN"
3. I also noticed that there is a column - "master table" and it always shows the name of the last table on the from list. Why? More important, does it matter to process. It shows the same table name when I use the "OUT JOIN" clause in from
I have created mv log on each master table with row_id.Review the rules for your version of Oracle, you didn't think it important to name it, with respect to when you can do FAST REFRESH and when it can use REFRESH LOGs.

Logged changes in Custom Table
Hi Gurus,
Need the Transaction code to check logged changes in Customizing Table ....... Something Like V_T510N...
...Need to know the USER ID who changed the table......
NOTE: THIS IS FOR CUSTOMIZING TABLE....Not INFOTYPE or PA Table.
Kumarpal Jain.Hi
Check SM30->View of your Custom Table Name->Utilities -> change logs.

Should we use LOGGING or NOLOGGING for table, lob segment, and indexes?
We have some DML performance issue on cf contention over the tables that also include LOB segments. In this case, should we define LOGGING on tables, lob segments, and/or INDEXES?
Based on the metalink note < Performance Degradation as a Result of 'enq: CF - contention' [ID 1072417.1]> It looks we need to turn on logging for at least table and lob segment. What about the indexes?
Thanks!>
These tables that have nologging are likely from the application team. Yes, we need to turn on the logging from nologging for tables and lob segments. What about the indexes?
>
Indexes only get modified when the underlying table is modified. When you need recovery you don't want to do things that can interfere with Oracle's ability to perform its normal recovery. For indexes there will never be loss of data that can't be recovered by rebuilding the index.
But use of NOLOGGING means that NO RECOVERY is possible. For production objects you should ALWAYS use LOGGING. And even for those use cases where use of NOLOGGING is appropriate for a table (loading a large amount of data into a staging table) the indexes are typically dropped (or at least disabled) before the load and then rebuilt afterward. When they are rebuilt NOLOGGING is used during the rebuild. Normal index operations will be logged anyway so for these 'offline' staging tables the setting for the indexes doesn't really matter. Still, as a rule of thumb you only use NOLOGGING during the specific load (for a table) or rebuild (for an index) and then you would ALTER the setting to LOGGING again.
This is from Tom Kyte in his AskTom blog from over 10 years ago and it still applies today.
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:5280714813869
>
NO NO NO -- it does not make sense to leave objects in NOLOGGING mode in a production
instance!!!! it should be used CAREFULLY, and only in close coordination with the guys
responsible for doing backups -- every non-logged operation performed makes media
recovery for that segment IMPOSSIBLE until you back it up.
>
Use of NOLOGGING is a special-case operation. It is mainly used in Datawarehouse (OLAP systems) data processing during truncate-and-load operations on staging tables. Those are background or even offline operations and the tables are NOT accessible by end users; they are work tables used to prepare the data that will be merged to the production tables.
1. TRUNCATE a table
2. load the table with data
3. process the data in the table
In those operations the table load is seldom backed up and rarely needs recovery. So use of NOLOGGING enhances the performance of the data load and the data can be recovered, if necessary, from the source it was loaded from to begin with.
Use of NOLOGGING is rarely, if ever, used for OLTP systems since that data needs to be recovered. -
Oracle Trigger to log changes in a table
I have a situation where if a new record is created or a modification to a table is made all details of these changes are logged. For example
A change is made in a customer table, from
Customername - Andrew
Customerid - 1
to
Customername - John
Customerid - 1
The changes would be logged in a separate table of the following format
TableType - The table the edit or new record appeared in
Username - The user that made the change
ChangeDate - Date of change
Uniqueid - Customer id
change type - the type of change add or modify
colname - the column name affected by the change
oldvalue - the old value
newvalue - the new value
therefore for the above example the logtable would be populated as follows:
TableType - Customer
Username - athompson
ChangeDate - 17/01/06
Uniqueid - 1
change type - modify
colname - customername
oldvalue - andrew
newvalue - john
Ok that sums up the aim, all im wondering is if this is possible using Oracle Triggers?
Any help, advice or possible solutions would really be helpful as im a bit of a trigger newbie :P
cheers
AndyTAh okay, the system has been designed and built before all requirements are known and understood and now cannot be changed. This is a common reason for using triggers as a kludge to fill the gaps in the application after the fact.
Based on the low usage though you should probably be okay, hopefully this will help get you started.

Is possible to keep a change log on a z table
Hi..
I made a z table which has a charge out rate and other details. This is updated via table maintenance view by the user.
I want to know whther it is possible to get a change log, for example if the user changed the charge out rate at a particular date, to get the date, name of the user logged in and say the price it was chnaged to and the earlier price which was thr..
If the price change details cannot be taken, is it atleast possible to get the date the change was made and the user name..
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
KeshiniHi,
If you maintain your z-table in ABAP Dictionary (SE11), via the menu Go to ->Technical Settings, you have a checkbox 'Log data changes' down left. F1 on this checkbox gives you following explanation:
"Log data changes
The logging flag defines whether changes to the data records of a table
should be logged. If logging is activated, every change (with UPDATE,
DELETE) to an existing data record by a user or an application program
is recorded in a log table in the database.
Note: Activating logging slows down accesses that change the table.
First of all, a record must be written in the log table for each change.
Secondly, many users access this log table in parallel. This could cause
lock situations even though the users are working with different
application tables.
Dependencies
Logging only takes place if parameter rec/client in the system profile
is set correctly. Setting the flag on its own does not cause the table
changes to be logged.
The existing logs can be displayed with Transaction Table history
(SCU3). "
So don't forget: activating this checkbox will only help if you also activate parameter rec/client on system level.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
Is it possible to track changes in a schema by writing own code? What i want to achieve is to write something that will 'catch' any insert or update to any table in my schema and writes a log to my table.

CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON / SNAPSHOT LOG ON
HI,
Is there any difference between create materialized view log on and creat snapshot on.
Did some googling, found out that: A snapshot log is a table associated with
the master table of a snapshot and Is used for refresh the master table\'s snapshots.
Materialized view log is a table associated with the master table of a materialized view. Seem like the same.
By the way, are these tables important? Will my database function as normal without these view log.
regards,
becksWhere did you pick up this syntax from ?
The MV Log that will be created on DOCUMENT will be called MLOG$_DOCUMENT.
So, the correct syntax is :
create materialized view log on DOCUMENT with primary key;this will create a "table" called MLOG$_DOCUMENT which serves as the Materialized View Log on the real table called DOCUMENT. This will allow you to create one or more Materialized Views based on DOCUMENT, which can be fast refreshed because of the presence of the MV Log. For example :
create materialized view MV_DOCUMENT refresh fast on demand as select DOC_ID, DOC_DATE from DOCUMENT;(i.e. assuming you want an MV that has only two columns from the table DOCUMENT.

GC Logs do not log to the specified file
Hi,
I am facing a wierd problem while logging GC Logs to a log file.
The Command line I use is this -
-Xloggc:D:\gc_logs\gc_logs-%date:~4,2%%date:~7,2%%date:~10,4%-%time:~0,2%-%time:~3,2%-%time:~6,2%.log -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCDateStamps -verbose:gcWhenever my server stops, upon restart, I see that the gc logs go directly to console but fail to log into the log file expected.
I have verified the D:\gc_logs folder exists.
I am not sure if there is anything I am missing here that is causing this problem.
I use JDK 1.6.0_10 and JBoss 4.2.3.GA Server.Check the permissions of folder. Hope it's not read only folder. I have faced same problem on linux box.

No more logging to access.log after suspend/resume
Hi.
After suspending (forced) and resuming a Managed Server in Weblogic (10.3.6), no more entries are added to access.log in the logs directory of said server. This happens when I use the Admin Console, and when I use WLST:
for serverRT in domainRuntimeService.getServerRuntimes():
print 'Current status for '+ serverRT.getName() +': '+ serverRT.getState()
print 'Suspending '+ serverRT.getName() +'...'
serverRT.forceSuspend()
print 'Resuming '+ serverRT.getName() +'...'
serverRT.resume()
Has anybody encountered this as well, and found a way so resolve this?
FYI, I followed MOS Note 1113583.1 to disable buffering, but this doesn't help.
Regards,

Acfs.log.0 oracleoks log file
A trivial question about acfs.log.N files
(i.e. acfs.log.0, acfs.log.1, acfs.log.2, acfs.log.3, etc, 1 GB size each),
they can be found inside directory:
CRS_HOME/log/<hostname>/acfs/kernel
together with a small file: file.order
taht lists the temporal order by which to consider them
Is it safe to delete them (if I don't need anymore) using rm -f acfs.log.*?
According to lsof no process is using them at the moment.
Also: there is a way to limit the number of files created?
Sorry to bother you, but I'm not able to find information, neither in Oracle web sites, nor in the docs, nor googling about.
It looks like they are log files of oracleoks (Oracle Kernel Service , a not-open source Linux module, loaded into the kernel after Grid installation)
It's a 11.2.0.4 CRS installation, on one node I have a few acfs.log.N files, each filled with records like:
ofs_aio_writev: OfsFindNonContigSpaceFromGBM failed with status 0xc00000007f
thanks
OscarHi Oscar,
Regarding that freeGBM messages ,
Do you see any kind of hang while trying to stop acfs filesystem with srvctl .
I feel it will be worth to open a service request with Oracle and investigate what exactly causing this messages ,rather removing the same.
If you are going to open a service request ,please gather below related information and share them in service request.

Yes. I did edit the torrc file since I wanted the log to be store in that file. Indeed

Course, I could edit /usr/lib/systemd/system/tor.service such that root will become the process owner; or, I could add the user I use everyday in the root group, then change the permission of /var/log/tor/debug.log such that it will be writable also for the folks in the root group.
