Linux on Oracle: Installation Problem..Odd!!

Question

I am trying to install oracle 8.0.5 DB server on my RedHat5.2 box
with all the necessary rpm install like gcc, cc,lib etc.
I am running the orainst from the har disk, I answer all
questions and then
I see the graph bar appearing and oracle getting installed.
However,
when I get to the point where it has to create the
ntcontab.o
I get the following O/S Error report:
Error during action 'Creating ntcontab.o'.

I also have the make install , when i type (for testing) :
make: *** No targets. Stop.
For the permission for oracle user, I have granted all type of
permission available. using linuxconf from redhat.
I would appreciate if anyone could give a hand with it. I am
stuck!!
