List of songs on my iPod

Occasionally, I want to edit the album names, etc. for the songs already on my iPod...since I updated to 7, I cannot figure out how to see a list of songs that are on my iPod like I can with the songs that are in my library. Please help.

no, there is contents. i just figured it out.
to recap: i had 2 problems: one was that i couldn't see the contents of the shuffle. the other was that i couldn't eject my shuffle. when i tried to eject, i kept getting the message that i couldn't eject because an application was using the files on the ipod. when i clicked the icon of my shuffle i got the picture of the ipods with the heading "ipod + itunes," as i recall. there were no settings or content tabs.
now i realize there were no tabs because i had not finished the registration of the shuffle on my pc. i had registered the shuffle on the website without using itunes. i didn't realize that there was more i needed to do in itunes because i couldn't see all of the buttons in my window. when i followed through with the registration in itunes all the way to the end, the 2 tabs were revealed and the songs that i had already loaded on the shuffle were listed in "contents." and, i was able to eject the shuffle. apparently itunes (or whatever) was still looking for a completed registration and wouldn't release the shuffle. sigh.
if you can not see the settings and contents tabs in itunes when you click your shuffle in devices or you can not eject the shuffle, look at the window with the picture of the ipods in itunes. there is more below. complete the registration (i had already done so on the web earlier, but my itunes was not complete.).
thanks to everyone for your help.

  • How would I export a list of songs on an iPod to a text file?

I found one of my old iPod shuffles that's synced to an old PC that is long gone... I'm looking for a way to export what's currently on the iPod Shuffle as a text file or something so I can remember that "phase" in my life in the form of a playlist. I used to be able to do this in iTunes 10, but not quite sure how in 11+. Does anyone know how to do this?

If you are able to connect the shuffle to iTunes and show its list of songs, it may be best to take a screen shot of iTunes window at max size.  Scroll the list and take additional screen shots as needed.
NOTE:  There is a command in the menu bar to
File -> Library -> Export Playlist...
Give this command with the shuffle's Music list selected in the sidebar.  However, this command is meant to create a text file that is later imported into iTunes, so it is not formatted to be nicely readable to human eyes.
iTunes 11.x may hide the sidebar (along left side of window).  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  To show the list of songs on the shuffle...
    • If the shuffle is 3rd or 4th gen, find the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle's name, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle).  Click on Music there.
    • If the shuffle is 1st or 2nd gen, the shuffle itself is one playlist.  Select it in the sidebar, under DEVICES, so that its Settings screen is shown to the right.  Toward the top, where is says "Settings," click on On This iPod (to the right).
You can actually off-load the song files from the shuffle.  You cannot use iTunes to do this (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store), but there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on the computer's drive, I suggest you create a new playlist in iTunes, and name it appropriately (like "Old iPod Songs").  Show the song files in an Windows Explorer window, and drag them to that playlist in the iTunes window.  iTunes will add the songs to the (general) iTunes library, but that playlist will only show the songs that were on the shuffle.  And you can actually play the songs for a shot of "nostalgia" (not just look at their names).

  • How do I preview songs within iTunes list of songs on my iPod Shuffle?

I want to hear what songs are on my iPod shuffle with their listed title , so I know what to keep and what to delete.
Because, when you know you want to delete some songs, but do not remember all the titles.

Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  The next step depends on whether your shuffle is 1st or 2nd gen, or if it is 3rd or 4th (current) gen.  If you don't know, this article shows the four types
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1719
1st or 2nd gen - Look over to the right and click on the Contents tab.  That screen shows the list of songs currently on the shuffle.  You should be able to play them off the list.  With a 1st or 2nd gen shuffle, when you do this, you are actually playing the song file that is in your iTunes library (on computer), not the song file that is currently stored on the shuffle (but they should be the same).
3rd or 4th gen - Click on the little triangle next to the shuffle (in sidebar) to "drop down" the iTunes media categories (indented under shuffle).  Select Music.  Over to the right, you should see a list of songs that are currently on the shuffle.  If you have the shuffle set to Manually manage music (on the shuffle's Summary tab), you should be able to play them off the list.  If you use automatic syncing, the song list should be visible, but "grayed out" (not accessible); you need to play the songs from the playlist(s) you sync automatically to the shuffle (in your iTunes library).

  • How do I turn off the shuffle function for a list of songs on my iPod touch?

I cannot get my iPod touch to stop shuffling songs.  I have an audiobook that I've downloaded and cannot get it to play the songs in order.  There is no shuffle button to turn on or off, either. Please help!

The shuffle control shows up when you touch the screen in album view. This brings up the scrubber bar, repeat control and shuffle control. The shuffle control appears as crossed arrows. When it is blue it is On. When it is white it is Off.

  • Getting list of songs on iPod into a playlist on computer

Between my wife and I we have a few iPods and I'm having some troubles getting the list of songs from our iPods into playlists in iTunes because we originally didn't transfer them the right way.
We realize now that we should have created a playlist first within iTunes and then transferred the playlist onto the iPod if we wanted to keep record of which songs we selected.
ALL THE SONGS ARE ALREADY BOTH IN iTUNES AND ON THE iPOD, now we just want to put them into a playlist within iTunes so we can swap out the music with different playlist and still have the option to reload the music that is currently on the iPod on a later date. It took many hours to select the subset of music that is currently on the iPod, so we'd rather not have to start over.
This is a summary of what we'd like to do:
    1. General folder on iPod --> playlist in iTunes
    2. Erase all music from iPod
    3. Different playlist in iTunes ---> iPod.
Nano, Video, and old 10GB   Windows XP Pro

I'd like to know that same exact thing. I recently erased my entire system drive and am now re-installing software and updates. I have re-installed iTunes, updated it and copied all my iTines music and folders into it. Trouble is, the laylists didn't come over with it. I've read that two files are necessary for a successfull transfer and re-install of all iTunes stuff from a backup.
    1. iTunes Music Library.itl
    2. iTunes Library.xml
I have the .xml file but the .itl file didn't transfer over. In fact it didn't backup prior to my erasing my drive. Is the .itl file the file required to put all playlists and songs (arranged in my customized order) back onto iTunes?

  • Some of my songs are listed twice on my iPod itself.  However, when I plug the iPod into my computer, the songs don't show up twice in iTunes when I click on device/music. How do I get rid of the duplicate songs on my iPod?

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.

  • Itunes wont list all songs on ipod, only some of them

My itunes doesn’t list all the songs on my ipod, only some of them. (Only the ones uploaded after a certain date, when I think I forgot to eject my ipod one day).
The ipod definitely has all the albums I've ever uploaded on it. I know because I've tried looking on my friends’ computer and his DOES show all songs on my ipod.
Sounds like a PC problem, not an ipod problem, right? So I tried re-installing itunes, but that doesn’t fix it.
It’s not a bit deal, but it just means I can’t delete certain albums from my ipod.

How exactly are you trying to view this info.
Select the iPod as the Source. Do not select any of the playlists on the iPod, just select the iPod itself.
Any reason you are manually managing the iPod?

  • I have purchased 9 songs and cannot get them over to my play list on my I pod how do I sync these songs onto my Ipod?

I have purchased  9 songs on I tune and cannot get them over to my IPOD play list----I have tried to sync them like the old times I have tried dropping them into my IPOD wont take.    Can someone explain how I can get these new songs onto my IPOD and out of my purchase list

Do you have the Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 Kbps AAC option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?
If so, disable it and then click the Apply button in the lower right hand corner to apply the changes to your device.

  • Ipod not displaying list of songs

    Hello,
Recently I went to update my ipod and noticed it wouldn't display the list of music that is on it while connected to itunes. It still reports that i have 23 megabytes of space left. My ipod seems to still have all the songs on it, but won't list them. I tried resetting it and using the latest sofware to access it but no luck. I guess the next step is to restore it but i really dont want to since i haven't backed up my muic . Anyone have a similar problem? Any hints?

    update:
When using itunes 7, after i connect it seems to find the music however it doesn't list it as music, it regards it as other. When I connect it runs through the list of songs and says "determining gapless playback information" then anaylizing X of 2340 "Song Name" Then it reports the space as capacity 9.25gb audio 21.9mb other 9.23gb freespace 8.5mb. (I did add a 21.9mb audio file when i noticed something was wrong)

  • HT1399 How can I see that I already have a song on my Ipod and review my full list of songs all together? So I don't reload the same song.

How can I see that I already have a song on my Ipod and review my full list of songs all together? So I don't reload the same song.

In iTunes, try changing "album artist" tag to the same name for eack track,
also make sure that "track number" values are correct and different for each.
(select all songs of an album > lmb > get info)

  • How do I add the songs from my iPod to my list of songs on iTunes without losing any?

I have 2600 songs on my classic iPod that I would like to add to my songs in iTunes without losing any from either location. Some of my iPod songs were ripped from CD's I own and were not downloads. If I sync them it seems like the songs on my iPod will be replaced with only the songs from iTunes. How do I do this?

If I sync them it seems like the songs on my iPod will be replaced with only the songs from iTunes. How do I do this?
Yes, that's what will happen...  Ideally, all songs on your iPod are already in your iTunes library.  AND you keep a backup of that iTunes library, and restore from that backup if your computer fails.  An iPod should not be the only place with a copy of your songs.
iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links, including a CNET article on the topic.
Depending on the method used, if some songs are BOTH on the iPod AND in your iTunes library, you may have to go through the "consolidated" library and remove duplicates manually.  Going forward, you can use this method to back up your computer's complete iTunes library (not just your songs) to an external drive

  • How can i transfert song  from my ipod to my itune list

i format my pc and all my song are store on my ipod , i reinstall itune but cant transfert song from my ipod into my library, it only give me choice to erase my toon on my ipod to replace it

There is no way to transfer songs backwards from the iPod to the computer thru iTunes. You would have to search for an external program to do this.

  • I was down loading music from my list of songs from my computer, the playlist on my iPod shows the title of the song, but there is no music, and the iPod shuffles to the next song

I down loaded songs from my playlist off my computer to my iPod, the playlist on my iPod shows the title of the song, but no music plays and my iPod shuffles to the next available song. I down loaded about 300 songs at once, was that to much at one time ? How do I get those songs on my iPod without duplicating song titles on the playlist? Plus I have a couple of song duplications on the playlist, can't figure out how to remove them.

If iTunes purchases, delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise delete and resync if they play OK in iTunes on the computer
