LiveCache Installation

Hi,
I am asked by my client to install SCM5.0. I was looking on OSS Install guides and I am actually confused on the installation procedure. I would appreciate if you can answer the following questions for me one by one.
1. SCM5.0 (it is a NW04s or NW04).?
2.If I install SCM 5.0 server , will it install the LiveCache by default or do I need to install LiveCache Seperately. If I need to install the LiveCache seperately, do I need to have the MAXDB/SAP DB software cd's as well. (as per OSS I need inst master and live cache dvd)
3. How are SCM 5.0 and LiveCache and APO different?
4. Can you please give me a high level steps for the install...(Like should I do the livecache install first and then og for SCM5.0 install or Install SCM and then install Live Cache etc
5. For SCM install is it ABAP+JAVA Add in or Just JAVA or ABAP only or ABAP and JAVA.
It is a little urgent and appreciate a quick response.
Thanks,
Madhukar

Hello Madhukar,
1. SCM Server 5.0 based on SAP NW 2004s
2. Please review the document for the liveCache installation:
service.sap.com/instguides -> mySAP Business Suite Applications
-> mySAP SCM -> Using SAP SCM 5.0 Server ->
"Installation - SAP liveCache Technology on Win(or UNIX) - NW04s"
What database is going to use the customer? ( MAXDB ? )
If the liveCache will be not installed on the application server, then you need
liveCache client software to be installed on the application server for
APO application to be able to communicate with liveCache.
( SAP notes 822239 & 649814 )
3. What do you mean? Please review the documents at
    service.sap.com/scm -> mySAP SCM Technology ->
   "Architecture overview" & "liveCache overview"
4. & 5. Please review first the documents at
    service.sap.com/scm -> mySAP SCM Technology ->
"Architecture overview" & "Installation and Upgrade overview"
And after that please start with SCM 5.0 Master installation guide at
service.sap.com/instguides -> mySAP Business Suite Applications
-> mySAP SCM -> Using SAP SCM 5.0 Server ->
"Master Guide - mySAP SCM Using SAP SCM 5.0"
< The recommended installation sequence for the diff. Servers you could
    review on p. 18. >
And as there are many questions from the different areas, and you have the
SAP customer, please ask the customer to create the SAP ticket to 'BC-INS' or
'BC-DB-LVC-INS' to handle all questions relevant to the installation of the
SCM 5.0 system.
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

  • MaxDB and LiveCache installation

    Hello All,
Tying to install LiveCache 7.7 part SCM 5.1 = SCM 2007
I am trying to install liveCache on SuSE 10(Linux) with MaxDB. I would like to know that if I need to install MaxDB before I install the Livecache server using sapinst? Please advice!
I thought sapinst should ask for MaxDB file during the sapinst process? I started the with sapinst without installing MaxDB and now  I am on the steps (Intance parameters) --> I checked Volume Medium type as Raw Devices --> Clicked on Next, I entered /sapdb as raw devices according to SAP Inst manual I click on NEXT and I got this error message: Selected item is not a valid Raw Device: /sapdb. SOLUTION: Select a valid raw device?
Please someone tell me what is exactly valid RAW Device?
    Thanks in Advance
    Kumar

    Hello Kumar,
-> Please run /nLC10 -> set LCA -> click on Integration
=> You will get the screen where you could see the User Data settings.
You have to set the DBM user & Standard liveCache user <LCUSER> with the passwords
correctly. To run the liveCache application you have to connect first from the application
       as the LCUSER.
-> Please logon to the liveCache server as user in the 'sdba' group & run :
          dbmcli -d <LC-name> -u control,<pwd>
          <enter>
         dbmcli on <LC-name>>db_state
< if the liveCache is offline =>next step, skip it if it's already 'online' >
        dbmcli on <LC-name>>db_online
        dbmcli on <LC-name>>sql_connect superdba,admin
dbmcli on <LC-name>>sql_execute select * from users
        dbmcli on <LC-name>>sql_release
        dbmcli on <LC-name>>exit
-> Please follow up the liveCache installation guide. If the liveCache was installed, there are also post installation steps.

  • Integrated LiveCache Installation

    Hi,
I installed an SCM server 5.0 with an integrated liveCache on a 64 bit Windows platform.  When I'm trying to initiate the connections LCA, LDA and LEA that I created, i get this error stating that the database instance is not found.
    Here's the specific error:
    Name and Server     : LC1 - MDCSAP07
    DBMRFC Function     : DBM_CONNECT
    Error               : DBM Error
    Return Code         :         -4
Error Message       : database instance not found
During the installation of the SCM server, I defined AP1 as the SID for the system and SAPAP1 as the ABAP schema user.
Later on the installation, I was prompted to define a liveCache ID as well as the liveCache user. I used LC1 as the liveCache ID and SAPLC1 as the user.
Would this be the cause of the database instance connection failure?
Should the liveCache ID be the same as the SCM SID since the liveCache was integrated in the SCM installation and therefore will use the database of the SCM system?
    LiveCache experts please help!

    Hi Natalia,
I have one doubt regarding the installation of SCM 7.0 EHP1,hope you can help me in this regard.
First let me clarify you on our scenario.
We are doing a distributed installation where our CI will be on
one server and DB will be on another server and we will do stanalone
installation of livecache on CI server,so finally we will have
CI and livecache on one server.
    DB on another server.
But we are facing issues during installation of DB server , it
was asking us to provide the livecache filesystem and dvd's.
Until we have created the filesystem for livecache and provided the
dvd's the installation was not going forward.
After creating filesystem for livecache and providing DVD's
installation went well and it has installed livecache and db on that
    server.
Then we have installed standalone livecache on CI server and after that
we have installed CI ,while installing CI it has again asked for
livecache DVD's but it has only installed livecache client on CI server.
According to you it will only install Livecache client on DB and there
is no need for livecache filesystem but until or unless we have created
the filesystem the installation didn't went forward,so our query here isthat is there any option that we can use to skip that livecache
    installation.

    Thanks in advance
    Sandeep.

If the /sapdb/programs directory does not exist, then the problem can be that the file /etc/opt/sdb exists from a previous installation of the LiveCache on this same server.   Delete or rename that file, and then ALSO stop and re-start the sapinst program as it appears to read this file at the initial startup and then continue to use that information when a retry of the failed installation is attempted.

We are trying to install SAP Livecache 7.7 in SCM 5.1. The installation hangs still at the last phase (Create database schema) for days. There is no updates in the log. Have anyone faced similar issues ? Would be great if someone help on this. We are struggling for more than two weeks and we are facing the same problem even after re-installing a number of times.

  • Change unix UID on MaxDB/liveCache installation?

Is it possible to change the UID of an existing liveCache install on a unix server?
Example/Background: liveCache 7.7 installed on local host as user sdb using UID 255. Someone then reinstalled the system on same host, but redefined UID 210 for sdb. Person then imported data from backup file. Problem is that /etc/passwd synchronization changed sdb user UID to 255 and erased UID 210.  However MaxDB 7.7 system still writes new files still using original ID 210, not 255 ID.  Half the unix file ownership is user 210, half is 255. (thank goodness for group permissions!)
Question is how to have MaxDB recognize the UID 255 not the 210 ID.
    Thanks for your ideas.

    > Is it possible to change the UID of an existing liveCache install on a unix server?
Nope. At least there is no automatic way to do that.
What you can do - err - should do is: reinstall the software via SDBINST.
    > Example/Background: liveCache 7.7 installed on local host as user sdb using UID 255. Someone then reinstalled the system on same host, but redefined UID 210 for sdb. Person then imported data from backup file.
See, this problem, besides others, is one of the reasons, why 'installation by filecopy' is not supported. Re-install the software, that will solve the problem.
    > Question is how to have MaxDB recognize the UID 255 not the 210 ID.
    And again: reinstall the software.
Come on, it's MaxDB - installations of the software and applying patches don't take hours (we're not like Oracle in that point ).

    Lars

  • LiveCache Installation (Database creation) problems

    We are trying to install liveCache 7.6.29 (SCM 5.0 SR2), during the database creation phase we are encountering the below error;

Eagerly waiting for your reply, as this is a high priority for me.
    Regards,
    Thilaka

    Hi Thilaka,
hm, why are you now askig the forum when you've direct email contact with me?
Anyway, this really should be handled over OSS...
    Just fyi:
It seems that SAPINST is trying to issue the following command:
    /sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,
Can you try and see if you can issue it from the commandline on your machine (with the same user, i.e. probably root)? Please do not forget to add the password of the ql1adm, which is either not visible in the above command or forgotten (by SAPINST):
    /sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,<b><password></b>
After issueing this, please try to continue using SAPINST (and please update the OSS message accordingly).

  • Livecache 7.5 installation

    Hi All
We are planning to install a new Livecache 7.5 on AIX 5.1 server but we already have another SAPDB version 7.3.0 installed on same machine (It servs an XI installation). Our doubt is :
    1. During the installation fase (for Livecache), our indep programs will be upgraded or do we need to do it before?
    2. Is there any problem installing and working with this two softwares on same host?
    Many Thanks
    Daniela Godoi

    Hello Daniela,
you should be able to run both on the same machine. Please make sure both instances are correctly configured and sized, so that you don't run into resource problems.
    To answer your questions:
    1. You have to do it before. In case you try to install a new liveCache/MaxDB 7.5 instance on a machine which already has a liveCache/SAP DB instance <= 7.4, then you need to upgrade the Client Installation first.
In other words: install the 7.5 client on your machine first (you can use sdbinst using the new 7.5 liveCache software to do that, as described in OSS note 649814).
    !!! IMPORTANT:
Please be aware that with liveCache 7.5 there's a new Unix security concept. During the above client installation, you will be asked for a user & group, to whom the database will belong. The defaults are 'sdb' (user) and 'sdba' (group). If you have no objection against these, I suggest you take the defaults.
-> The user of the other instances (7.3) will then be placed in the 'sdba' group.
After installing the new 7.5 client software, you should be able to follow your 7.5 liveCache installation guide to install the complete liveCache 7.5 software.
    2. As said in the beginning, there should be no problems, <i>if</i> everything is handled correctly.
Should you experience any problems at all, I'll probably ask you to open a OSS/CSS message on queue BC-DB-LVC.
    Kind regards,
    Roland

  • Livecache Error in SCM5.0 - Database Instance Not Found

    Hi,
I installed SCM5.0 SR2 IDES version on Windows 2003. I selected Livecache in SAP System option when installing SCM5.0. After complete installation, I executed MAxDb exe file to install the MaxDb. I get this error when I try to access LCA Monitor in LC10.

    Hello Satish,
-> My assumption was correct. Please see my first reply:
"Please pay attention that the liveCache server software is not supported on the 32bit Windows
server. You could install the liveCache client software on 32 bit Windows server, if the
application running on the 32 bit Windows to be able to communicate to the liveCache instance. The liveCache instance need to be installed on another server, please overview the
PAM matrix or check info at

"Matrix of released OS platforms for SAP liveCache Technology 7.6.0"   "
You need the server, where you could install the liveCache instance.
After the liveCache instance will be installed, you need to follow up with the post installation
Steps from the liveCache installation guide, which you could also display from link

  • Has LiveCache been installed?

    Hi,
I am installing SCM5.0 on Windows 2003 x64 hardware and SQL Server 2005. I installed SCM5.0, Livecache, and everything else on the same box. The installation completed without problem. Now I am in post-installation steps and I have following questions:
    1. How do I know the livecache is actually installed? In my case, a separate database for livecache will be created in SQL Server or it still will create a separate MAXDB database? In SQL Server I only see one database(APS)of my SCM5.0 no database of livecache (LCS the name I gave during the installation). I did find it created a sapdb directory in OS level, but seems no MAXDB database created.
    2. The installation also created DBM Command Line Interface but when I tried to connect it using the username/password, it said database instance not exist.
    3. When I run transaction LC10 inside SCM Instance, click LiveCache monitor and I got error message "database instance not found"
All these are telling me livecache and its database may not be even installed. Is this correct? How do I know the livecache get installed? Again, my installation went through no problem. Any input/experience are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Yujun Ran

    Hi Natalia,
Thanks for your quick and very informational response. I should mention that I only performed one SCM5.0 installation by using NW2004S_SR1 installation master. In this installation, it entered the parameter of LiveCache when the installation asked. I did not perform a separate, independent livecache installation at all since I assume the first installtion should install livecache already because it was asking to enter livecache parameter. Now I realize I may only installed livecache client software as you pointed out and I should still have to perform a standalone livecache installation on this same box, is this correct?
    1. I ran several commands you suggested and get following results, all pointing to no livecache database been installed at all. The information is as below:

    2. I ran command and it said database instance not found again and no XCMDOUT.LOG file found in my server at all.
    3. I didn't open a OSS message to SAP as I believe it's something in my end. Looks like I should install a independt livecache on the same server. The DVD I plan to use is 51031830_12. Could you confirm that for me?
Thanks again for you helpful answer. I have give you 6 points reward.

  • Reason to size liveCache filesystems 2x RAM?

    Hi,
I am sizing liveCache database for future rollouts of existing system.  (liveCache 7.7.04, SCM 5.1, Unix platform)
In the liveCache installation guide, the recommendation is to size the unix sapdata filesystems to be 2x the size of RAM.
SAP SCM 5.1 Standalone Engine SAP liveCache Technology 7.7: UNIX  Document version: 1.0 ‒ 08/31/2007
    Page 11, section 3.3
    File System Name Description Recommendation
    /sapdb/<LC_NAME>/sapdata[1-n] Data Volumes 2 x RAM, minimum 3 GB
    /sapdb/<LC_NAME>/saplog Log Volume 2 GB
What is reason for this recommendation?  I assume it has something to do with the history data in datacache during system shutdown and not also the 1x RAM for KernelDumpFileName path, and > 1x RAM for backup directory because only the liveCache database, not the KernelDumpFileName or backup directories are in the sapdata* filesystems.
In these frugal economic times, we are requested to justify hardware expenditures. 2x RAM seems excessive for sapdata filesystems when the RAM is 200-350GB in addition to the 1x RAM KernelDumpFileName and >1x RAM backup space needed.
Also, I assume it means the total space of all sapdata filesystems is requested to be 2x RAM, and not each individual filesystem.
Is there more explanation, clarification or justification on the disk sizing for liveCache?
    Thanks in advance,
    Margaret

    Hello Margaret
    > What is reason for this recommendation?
Plain and simple: it's necessary to have that amount of space to put data to.
    >I assume it has something to do with the history data in datacache during system shutdown
?? Not totally sure what you mean by that.
However, liveCache implements what is calles a "consistent view" to it's objects.
This means that it needs to keep several versions of the same object in the data area at the same time.
Let's assume that your planning scenarios really use up the whole RAM for the liveCache, this alone does not allow to keep multiple versions.
Thus there need to be more space available in the data area.
Doubling the size of the RAM for the Data area (not for each single filesystem) has proven to be a good starting estimation.
    > and not also the 1x RAM for KernelDumpFileName path, and > 1x RAM for backup directory because only the liveCache database, not the KernelDumpFileName or backup directories are in the sapdata* filesystems.
    ?? did not get that...

    No it isn't.
And, really, what does a TB harddisk space cost these days?
    > Also, I assume it means the total space of all sapdata filesystems is requested to be 2x RAM, and not each individual filesystem.
    You assume correclty.
    > Is there more explanation, clarification or justification on the disk sizing for liveCache?
    That's pretty much it.
You may of course start with less then recommended diskspace, but you might run into problems later on with it.

Looks like the patch installation to 7.6.03 Build 12 did not finish correctly back than.
Get this patch again, startup SDBUPD and finish this update first.
Afterwards you can install the 7.6.04 Patch.
MaxDB and liveCache installations keep an installation registry for all installed instances.
And as long as one upgrade/installation is not finished correctly you cannot install another patch to this instance.

    Lars
