LiveCycle Designer 8 Saving Dynamic Field Problem

Just updated to LiveCycle Designer 8 to get around the issue with my users not being able to save the PDF form data. Now my users can save the data using Acrobat Reader 8 but my dynamic fields are not working correctly.
I have several fields that when you click a certain radio button or check a certain box, a previously invisible text field becomees visible. If one of those boxes is checked and data is entered in the now visible text field, then the users saves the form and reopens it, the data is saved but the field is invisible. Viewing the XML output confirms that the data is still there. When the form is reopened the checkbox that makes the field visible is still checked. But to see that data entered in the text field, you have to uncheck and then recheck the box to get the invisible field to become visible once more. Any idea on how to correct this "feature"?

Hi Debra,
To correct this 'feature', go in Form Properties > Defaults tab, set the Preserve Scripting Changes To Form When Saved option to Automatically.
To correctly using Designer 7.x, youll have to write some script to achieve the same result. Currently, you have a script setting the fields state. All you need is to run the same script when the form is opened. In the example below, a form:ready script will execute the change event script when the form is opened. You can use the docReady event as well.
For example:
RadioButtonList: change event
if (this.rawValue == "1")
TextField1.presence = "visible";
else
TextField1.presence = "invisible";
RadioButtonList: form:ready event
this.execEvent("change");

LiveCycle Designer 8.0 - Image Field Issue

I am using LiveCycle Designer 8. Ive inserted an image field and when I test it, the image doesnt scale proportionally even though the properties are set up correctly (Scale image proportionally). I understand that in order to get this to work, the files needs to be saved as a dynamic PDF, but I don't have an option of saving as a dynamic PDF. The only "Save as" type options I have are Adobe 7 (Static) PDF Form and Adobe 8 (Static) PDF Form. I also don't have an option of saving as a "dynamic" PDF in the Acrobat Save As window.
Is there a way to work around this or am I doing something wrong. The file was designed in InDesign, exported to a PDF and then brought into LiveCycle to insert text fields and an image field for a user to input their contact info and their logo. The 5 text fields work perfectly and the one image field works EXCEPT for scaling proportionally even though the properties for that field are set correctly.

Did you import the file using "Create an Interactive Form with Fixed Pages" as your selection on the Import dialog? If so, this brings in the original InDesign PDF as "artwork" (a background layer) on which your form fields are placed. This document can't be dynamic. That might be the issue.

Livecycle Designer form distribution - bound fields blank

PDF forms created in Livecycle Designer have bindings of some form fields and an XML data source (Livecycle Preview looks great). When I make user-like data entry into the form as it is displayed in Lifecycle Preview, it behaves as I would expect at the user end after distribution . When submitted from Livecycle Preview it generates an email with an attached XML document representative of the entered data. My problem is that switching back to the Livecycle Design, saving the form, closing Livecycle, opening the form in Adobe Acrobat 8, enabling usage rights in Adobe Reader , and finally distributing the document, it arrives at the user end and is displayed as it is in Livecycle Design View (None of the bound fields are visible and the flowable form is not "flowed". I looks exactly like the Licecycle Design View.

Thanks for the reply. The user community has no import capability (forms are email-attached for opening using the free Adobe Reader). I want to populate the form from my end (Adobe Acrobat 8.13). I was under the impression that associating the form as follows was sufficient fo populate the form.
File > Form Properties > Select Default Tab and at the Data File: prompt, enter the name of a local XML document that binds to form fields
Am I missing a step?

Adobe Livecycle Designer 7.0 - Text fields are not returning data on email submission-Help?

Hello - I am using Livecycle Designer 7.0 and have created a form with different fields to be filled out and submitted via email back to me using the standard submit by email button.
However, when the form is filled out and returned all the control field choices from both the checkboxes and the radio buttons are there - but nothing from the textbox fields is returned in the email submission. Those fields are not being returned.
also - once they are returned how do I ensure they will repopulate via the import data into the form functionality?

Saving dynamic forms problem

Hi
I have created a form with a dynamic subform to capture repeated information. I have saved it and enabled reader rights in Acrobat. When I go to save the form with the subform repeated it does not save the repeated subform, just the original subform.
Any help greatly appreciated.

To say I have deselected 'form requires server side data binding and / or scripting' from the properties panel. This is now saving the data however the repeating subform is not showing after I have saved it. When I click the button to repeat it opens up again with the data showing. I would like it to always be showing if possible.

LiveCycle Designer 7 : Saving the PDF form for the users ?

When building a form, which will be filled by users, is there any way that the users can be offered the possibility to save their data within the PDF so that they can send the complete form by emails or through a other files exchange media (FTP, WEB, Flashdisk... )
Although having the possibility to sent only the XML data via email (which is great and we would like to keep this option) we fear that some of our users, which are filling the form, might not feel confident with this and might want to sent their completed form too ?

I was able to make this work for the first time yesterday. Assuming that you have Abobe Acrobat 8.0, once you have built the form...using adobe 8 go to the Advanced menu and select "Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader". The first time that I did this, and then attached the form to a user of reader - they were not able to save the completed form. So - I went to 'Forms' on the menu and selected "distribute form". Then the user of adobe was able to saved that form and changes that they made.
The distribute function wants you to email from there as a default. I had trouble because our default mail client is Novell. Still can't get that to work right. BUT - you can distribute the form and save it to your drive for distribution later. I then attached it to an email and sent it out to users.
Be sure to walk your end user through - using save as and saving it to their computer. My folks are used to NOT being able to do that so they still said they couldn't save the completed form.
Sorry if this explanation is very basic - but I am not at all a programmer! :) This is what worked for me. I spent hours on this site yesterday trying to work out the email piece and stumbled into this solution.

Livecycle Designer 8.0 word wrap problem

I am using Full* with script xfa.host.setFocus("FieldName"); to get my form to word wrap, but it is cutting off a letter before it does the word wrap to the next line. Is there any way to not orphan that letter and just move to the next line? Is there some better script out there for what I am trying to do?

You are asking for a world of hurt if you try and handle the word wrap yourself. Not to mention the movement from one line to the next.
Is there anyway you can change their minds? That technique is more in tune with a printed form as opposed to an online ffillable orm.

Created form in Livecycle Designer 8, send to 2nd party to complete some fields, want to lock those fields so that when sent to 3rd party to complete cannot edit

I am a newby to this product and have created a form from a PDF. I used Adobe Livecycle Designer to place text fields in form. I saved, then enabled user rights. I sent to 2nd party to open in Adobe reader. This person needs to populate some of the fields. Once this is done the 2nd person is to email to 3rd person who will complete the outstanding fields and return the form to the second person.
How do I stop the 3rd person from editing the text the second person put in the form?
I want the second person to receive the complete form back not just the responses put in the text fields? Does this happen automatically or do you have to tell it send complete form.

How do you save the file? Do you directly send it via mail with a button? (If the question is silly I'm sorry, because I have no lincenses... so I am completly unaware of the choices you have.)
You need to be able to save a file Reader Extension licenses I think...
Probably you should ask for the fake E-Mailbutton, to be able to send it to different people one after the other...
Make an invisible Decimalfield.
The preSave/preSubmit field javascript...:
this.rawValue = this.rawValue + 1
if (this.rawValue > 0)
{Decimalfield1.access="readOnly";}
if (this.rawValue > 1)
{Decimalfield2.access = "readOnly"}
will lock decimalfield1 after the first save/submit and decimalfield2 after the second. Normally that should do the job.
PS: Another way to save the document and lock ALL fields, you don't have to buy additional licenses is print it as pdf.

Why can't I 'place' a signature into a .pdf form created in LiveCycle Designer 9???

I have been pulling my hair out all afternoon!
I have created a dynamic form in LiveCycle Designer 9 - saved it as a Dynamic XML Form - opened it in Acrobat X - saved it as Reader Extended PDF and Enabled Additional Features. My colleagues will then need to open it in Reader X and select the option to draw and place thier signature in the text field I have provided them with. When I open the form in Reader X and click on the SIGN tab I get the following error message:
The security settings on this document prevent adding text and/or placing a signature on it from Adobe Reader. To fill and sign this document you need to print it out.
I have looked for help on this issue everywhere, yet to no avail.
I do not want to hear about using digital signatures or Echosign, We only want and need to have staff sign forms by drawing their signature.

I am not aware of Reader Enabled PDF from Acrobat X.
Have you tried enabling digital signature using Reader Extensions which comes with LiveCycle Server. viz http://I.P:Port/ReaderExtensions

Livecycle Designer v. Omni Form

I need to know of any possible advantages of using Adobe Livecycle in creating forms versus using Omni form. Can anyone provide me with an objective view? Thanks!

Well I've never used OmniForm, but I can give some advice as a user of Livecycle Designer.
I know that Livecycle Designer can make dynamic PDF files meaning that the form fields can expand and contract (and the document along with it) to fit any amount of user input. Omniform can only make static PDF files at this point.
Livecycle Designer is also a very young program. I've been frustrated many times with it because the interface hasn't been refined, it tends to run slow, and there seems to plenty of bugs left to be worked out. Give it another 3 or 4 years and I'm sure it'll be an excellent program if Adobe stays focused on its development, but at this point I probably wouldn't recommend it unless its necessary to be able to create dynamic PDF files.

Adobe LiveCycle Designer vs. MySQL 4.1

I have to design a input form for a client using LiveCycle Designer, but the client want to use for database a MySQL server. I can't make a connection to the MySQL server.
To connect, I use "New Data Connection" from File menu, I select "OLEDB Database", I select "Build ..." button, from OLEBD Providers I select "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server", I click the "Next" button. In field "Select or enter a server name" I write "localhost", I specify a user name and a password, a specify a database on server, and I click the "Test Connection" button. The error message that I've got is:
"Test connection failed because of an error in intializing provider. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
My question is: can I use LiveCycle Designer with a MySQL server? If yes, what do I need? How can I make a connection to the MySQL server? Can I use SQL statements, like select, insert and update? I saw that the only script available are FormCalc and JavaScript.
I find on a site (http://www.romsym.ro/detalii.php?ctg=687) that MySQL server can be use with LiveCycle, but for that I have to install on a server "Windows 2003 Server, Enterprise Edition".
If I use MS Access like database, do I need a server, or can I use it on my computer with Windows XP Professional?

I had no problem connecting to Accesss...
I created a drop down menu and then I clicked on Object > Binding then click on > Default Binding (Open, Save, Submit) then "New Data Connection"
then connect to the database using a fileDSN (I created a fileDSN to connect to the Access DB in the ODBC connections on my computer).
Then I selected the tables and under query I wrote
select * from tableName
Then it gave me all the fields from the table and I dragged the name field over the drop down menu.

I tried this number of time and was getting this error message every
time i try to put the DSN Detail and trying to connect to the DB. This
was really irritating.
Can somebody's what's the Issue . Is this a Resource Conflict or
something else
P.S :- I am using Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 Ver.9.0.0 with Windows XP and MySQL
Connector /ODBC 3.51 and the DB Connection is working good for MS

LiveCycle Designer 8.0

Hello, I have created a form by using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0. Now problem is, when I submit the form through the e-mail everything works fine. When I open the attached pdf file the one I have submitted it also includes all the buttons example: Submit, Print, Save As, Reset which belongs to my pdf form. I would like that it should not includes those buttons.
Would you please help me how to solve that problem?

1. Unlike the other forums out there (including other forums at Adobe), from my experience, on this forum no one will even bother telling you if this has been answered or not or possible or not.
2. There is no one spot for where you can find Live Cycle help.
3. I've seen forums with a sticky at the top saying where to begin for people like us. There are stickies at the top yes. But if you read them the "Experts" are wingeing at the newbies questions.
Hopefully someone at Adobe is reading this because I am also a newbie looking for a simple solution and only needs to know if things are possible and then will study the program in detail if proper documentation exists.
Can someone guide me to a basics forum or documentaion?

LiveCycle Designer problem saving in Adobe Reader

I re populated an old PDF file in LiveCycle Designer. Text, Date, Check boxes. When the new file is opened in Adobe Reader x, it will not save the data. Any way to fix this?

Did you save the PDF as an Extended Rights PDF? You will need to open the PDF in Acrobat, go to Save As Other and Select "Reader Extended PDF". This will allow you to do things like save data in Reader.
