LMS 3.2 Adding Devices Manually

Can anyone tell me if I need a seed devices to add devices manually or can I just bypass this portion of the setup since I'm NOT going to be discovering anything with Ciscoworks.(My envoronment is to complex to perform and discovering)  Or do I need a seed device anyhow for functionality of Ciscoworks and other processes?
Please advaise & thank you in advance,
Erick

If you are adding devices manually, there is no need for a seed device. The whole purpose of seed devices is to use it as staging for discovering neighboring devices.

First I tried to use the "Discovery" way and got  follow messages
    Total Devices Discovered: 16
    Reachable Devices: 1
    Unreachable Devices: 15
Devices Newly Added to DCR: 0
    Devices Updated to DCR: 1
Went on "Unreachable Devices" got a list of devices saying stauts : Unreachable
any idea what could be the problem ?

I found the problem was an snmp configuration missmatch on unreachable devices :/

  • LMS 3.2 adding an 881w router

    Hello,
I have an 881w router and I have a question about adding it to LMS. Do I add the router and AP separately or just add the router?  Will LMS be able to manage the IOS on both devices?
    Thanks

  • Adding devices automatically or manually

    Hi,
I'll start adding the devices to MARS, but am confused which method to use, shall i make it Automatically, so MARS will discover the network? or add the devices manually one by one?
As i heared, if i added them automatically, the toplogy after discovering the network will not be same as adding them manually, manually i'll have a fully cleared, detaild and connected topology graph in MARS which is not there if used the auto discovery method.
Kindly correct me if i'm wrong, and advice how to add the devices and what is the different between the two methods?
    Regards
    Rami

    Hi Rami,
Automatic discovery of devices in MARS cannot discover all devices.  Your topology will not be correct just by automatic discovery because automatic discovery cannot discover layer 2 devices.  Also, automatic discovery only works by SNMP community strings.  With automatic discovery, it will not fill in other access information that might be needed for mitigation purposes.  So, it isn't really a question of automatic or manual, you will probably want to use both.  There is an excellent online document explaining the whole process which includes doing both automatic and manual discovery.  It will also discuss seed files which can be used to import devices through a .csv file.
    Here is the link:

    I hope this helps,

  • CiscoWorks: Adding device in CS but it's in pending devices in RME.

    Hi,
I have fresh installed the LMS 3.2.1 without any errors. Then I am adding device in CS, give it correct credentials. Its appears in RME automatically, but it always remain in Pending devices in RME.
I have run a job in RME to check the devices credentials and it's appearing that credentials for snmp are wrong but ssh/ telnet appears as "did not try". Although I have added the correct credentials in CS for device, but it appearing as wrong in RME.
Also when I add device in CS, it's not automatically picking it's device type, until in CS I define its device type manually.
Please advise a solution for thiss problem.
    Thanks

This usually indicates that SNMP contact to the devices fails
I use the CLI tools like \CSCOpx\objects\jt\bin\snmpwalk.exe to check this.
    Cheers,

  • HT201593 The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why?

The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why? I guess the question speaks for itself. I have the latest version of iTunes and iOS 8.2 on my iPod Touch.

If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Very very very not happy.

  • Adding devices in Wireless toolkit

    Hi,
I'd like to know how to add my Sony Ericsson p800 to the device list of my wireless toolkit. I presume I'm ok with using the default color device put have seen in some ericsson java developers guide that it can be done. Just don't know how.
    Cheers for any help

With reference to original question. It is not very clear to me from the question by what you mean by adding a device. As far as I read, the concept of adding devices to W2K is to change the display properties, font properties, etc. This can be done using the following way.
Assume your installation of w2k is at D:\WTK20
    1. Go to D:\WTK20\wtklib\devices directory.
    2. Create a new directory with your device name.
    3. Copy DefaultColorPhone (say MyNewDevice)
    4. Copy the DefaultColorPhone.properties file from DefaultColorPhone directory to your new directory and rename it to MyNewDevice.properties (This is to simplify things. Otherwise you can choose to create a totally fresh file).
    5. Go through the properties and try to play with it by changing the values and openng your midlets in this new device. This way I could create a emulator that supports Indian language.
Hope this gives some pointers on how to do it. But not sure whether it answers your question. All the best.

  • Adding Device support/definitions in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2

    Hi All
I am having some issues adding updated definitions for Cisco C3750X-48PS switches.
We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 and I need to update the definition/device support for these switches. We are conducting a network refresh and are having some issues with ciscoworks polling these devices correctly.
I have looked through the various user guides and searched on google with not much luck as to how to actually do this, the links I have found breifly go into it, but not indepth, and the cisco links I have found, of course have redirects to new pages which bear to resemblance to what is in the original document.  Is there a clear guide out there on how to update the switch definiton in ciscoworks? So I can i can try and do this correctly?
I am new in my current role and I want to ensure I am doing this correctly. Apologies if this has been asked before.
    thanks

First thing to check is the supported device table for LSM3.2. According to it, the 3750X-48P-S is supported pretty much across the board by the LMS tools.
So you then need to just make sure you update the RME, CM, DFM and CiscoView device packages to integrate the updates into your server. While you can manually download and install the various packages, this task is more easily accomplished via the application GUI itself.
In LMS 3.2, updates can be done via the Common Services Software Center. The User Guide (here) tells how to use that area in great details. I usually just select "everything" for updating so as to be fully updated for whatever gets installed (as opposed to trying to pick and choose the minimal set of packages).

  • LMS 4.1 -- Adding larger amount of devices ( 10) results in webUI freeze and not collecting Inv/Conf-Data

    Hi all,
with LMS 4.1 running on solaris 10 I discovered the follwing.
Adding larger amount (>10) of devices one after the other (via DCRCLI) results in IC_Server no longer collecting the Inventory-Data nor ArchiveMgmt will collect Configs and after some while DataCollection (ANI) will get stucked in endless loop.
After that (navigating in CW2k-WebUI) the UI freezes.
Is that a known problem with Interprocess-Communication and Eventbus in LMS 4.1???
    Any feedback is welcome.
    Best Regards
    Lothar

After stopping the system I discovered that RmeDbEngine won't stop.
Issuing dbstop command also results in RmeDbEngine still running.
We had to kill process with signal 9.

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 DFM Devices Missing

    Hi Everybody
Having manually added a device into the DCR and confirmed that it's in a managed state I cannot get added into DFM.  Within Device Centre, it's collector status against "Data Collection", "Inventory", and "Fault Discovery" are all Success.
My Device Allocation Policy (Inventory > Device Administration: Device Allocation Policy) is currently set to Manage All Devices.
Running "geti Router" from within dmctl -s DFM returns all but the device in question.
I have manually deleted and readded and have also restarted service CRMDmgtd.
    Many Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi,
can you try to remove it from DB as below ::
    NMSROOT/Objects/smarts/bin/dmctl -s DFM invoke <Class>::<Instance>  remove
    Class => Switch or Router,
Instance => Device IP or Name.
    dmctl> invoke Switch::X.X.X.X remove
then add the device back in LMS and see if it makes any difference.
Also try to increase the SNMP timeout and retry for DFM:
Admin > Network > Timeout and RetrySettings> FaultManagement SNMP Timeouts and Retries
    Thanks-

Try updating your mdf device package as well. Device package for Common Services.
For current Nexus device package issue, each device package is not individual, but has some dependant packages. Without which they are tend to fail during installation check.
You can select all the available device packages and try to install. It seems you dont have SharedDcmaIOS (3.1.7) installed and hence the package is failng due to pre-requisite.
You have to install each package which fails which consistancy check on other packages.
For mdf package update, you can select common service as well and check for update.
There may be some 3850 device packages already available, please share output of following command for us to see :
    NMSROOT/bin/psucli -p rme -q -all

  • LMS 4.2 - DFM devices stuck in "Learning" state

    Hi,
Does anybody know why this same kind of bug/error/software fault exist in LMS 4.2 as it was in LMS 3.2 ? Why after a while after discovery of devices (state is "Known") DFM drops the state of devices to "Learning" and it stucks forever. Restarting of daemon manager helps for a short time. It looks like the processing of faults stops a while after discovery is complete.
LMS 4.2 is running on Solaris 10, connected to other LMS in DCR Slave configuration.

The connection between the ciscoworks GUI and the DFM repository is not 'optimal', or something like that. It's complicated.
What could cause the behavior you mention however, is either someone rediscovering devices that are still in learning state, or the presence of multiple active rediscovery schedules.
You may even delete all schedules excepts the default redisovery schedule which you can/should suspend. If the problem then stays away you know what caused it.
At this stage any device that really changes must be rediscoverd in DFM manually.
I think Admin -> Fault takes you to a page showing the schedule, if not lookup 'fault rediscovery schedule' in the help.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • LMS 3.2 Unconnected devices

    Hi all,
I'm facing some problem using the topology function in LMs 3.2.
I able to discover all my devices .however, some links are not shown in the topology service and some off the devices discovered under "unconnected device".
    i attached 2 screenshot here .
the first one showing the black color links (correct  and appeared) and the purple links (should have appear ).
then second screenshot showing the unconnected device but they are all in cdp neighbours list.
I need help to solve this issue.
    - i tried re initiate the db
-checked all the snmp credential all are correct.
Please forgive if my explanation is very worst.
    thank you very much.

    Hi ,
when devices do go to the Unconnected View, it is usually one of two situations:
    1.  CDP information is not propagating properly or configured
CDP is vital for the device to show up on your Layer 2 View.  Campus Manager
in LMS queries the CDP table from each Cisco device and see if there's a
matching entry on another Cisco device.  When that is confirmed, then and
only then that device shows up in your Layer 2 view.
    2.   SNMP issue:  either timeouts or not configured
SNMP timeouts are a very common problem when dealing with a network of a
large scale and/or  a network with many switches. At times, when the SNMP
queries a Cisco Device, the request times out trying to respond.
try only deleting and re-adding on the problenmatic device from common service and then run a new data collection  followed by user tracking acquisition.
once data collection and user tracking get finished then run the topology and check the issue.
    Thanks-
