Load balancing connections in 3.7

Hi,
in our current setup we use read-write and read-only proxies. With 3.7 a client that is supposed to connect to a read-only proxy can be redirected to a read-write proxy (and a read-write to a read-only).
Is there a way to partition proxies for load balancing?
Haven't checked the API yet, maybe it is possible to do it by implementing a custom load balancer but I really want to avoid implementing a custom one as much as possible.
Thanks,
Alberto

Hi NJ,
we need to access the same cache in a read-only or read-write way.
Anyway thanks you are right, the key point is using different proxy schemes, specifically different proxy services. I've just read the documentation more carefully and it says:
"... proxy – (default) This strategy attempts to distribute client connections equally across proxy service members..."
They should be partitioned by proxy service.
I'll test it tomorrow.
Thanks,
Alberto

  • Load balance connections from Portals 6 SP12 to R3

    Hi All,
Can you give me a clue/help on how i can load balance connections from Portals 6 SP12 to R3 47x200.
I have 5 servers, but the CI is getting hammered by portal as its not load balancing the workload across the other 4 app servers.

    Hi,
You have an option while creating the backend system in the portal, You can create the system as System for load balancing. I am not sure that this can be changed once you create the system. You can delete the system and create the new system with the load balancing option.

  • Problem Load Balancing connections for Grid Control Console on port 80!

I have two OMS and I'm balancing connections for Grid Control Console using a Software Load Balancer according with "Oracle Enterprise Manager Advanced Configuration". I have success where the load balancer is listening on port different to 80. When I configure Load Balancer to listen on port 80(architecture requirement) and distribute load between the two OMS(Port 7779), when login to Enterprise Manager Console the URL on the web browser changes to the port configured for HTTP server (port 7780) wich produces an "unable to connect" error message; and this behaviour also happends in some of the internal links of Grid Control Console too. Any ideas?

  • KB2830477 breaks RDS load balancer connections

All clients worked fine prior to KB2830477. Once that patch is installed the clients are unable to connect to our load balancer from outside our office; such as from home or on the road.
Removal of that patch allows them to connect once again.
The events on the RDS load balancer show clients connecting properly. The balancer sends the redirection info back to the client.
The events on the RDS server where the client was redirected show nothing.
It's as if the latest RDC patch breaks the ability for redirection. Or, perhaps, there's a special setting on our load balancer that needs to be updated due to this new patch?
    ... any helpful tips?

  • Load Balancing Connections to CasArray

We have a Exchange 2010 casarray configured with two CAS servers. The casarray is configured only using DNS.
I've noticed that connections to the casarray is 99 to 1 connecting to cas1 vs cas2.
How do I redirect and increase the connections to cas2?
    Thanks
    Ron

    Hi,
When we use DNS round robin for CAS array, each client will get a random Client Access server IP address, and if one of the servers goes down, we need to delete this record in the DNS entry manually. In most cases, we would like to lower the TTL values of
these DNS records to 5 minutes.
There is no way to decide which address will be used. Generally, it is recommended to use WNLB or HLB for CAS servers.

    Hi,
Have you taken a look at the file %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\services?
If you haven't, try and find the line sapms<sid>, where sid is de SID of the system you-re trying to reach.
If the line isn't there write it down like this.
    sapms<sid>     36<nr>/tcp

  • Content Tracker with Load Balancer

We have 2 production servers and a load balancer.
Each production server has its own database, stellent instance and components.
So each prod server stores its own content tracker data in its database.
Question is what will be the effective way to get consolidated content tracker data from both servers?
Experts please help, Thanks in Advance..

Two instances has same components and content.
Content is Archived. When ever new content is published, it will be archived to second prod server.
Load balancer connects to any of these servers depends up on load.
It seems to be not a perfect architecture but from long time my company is using this.

  • Load Balancing vs PQ processes accros RAC nodes

    I have following config.
    •     3 node RAC (10.2.0.3 on RHEL)
    •     All services (ERP, CRM, MISC and many more) configured for symmetric load-balance. i.e. Load balance across nodes.
    •     Each node has Instance_group set to run all the above services. Parallel instance group set to same as service name at the session level.
    •     PQ is enabled at the table level for some of the large tables with degree of 4.
    Issue :
    •     Quite often, QC gets spawned on the one node , but all the slaves gets spawned on a different node. This overloads the interconnect and slow down the fetch when result set is large.
    Question :
How do I make all PQ processes (slaves + QC ) to go on the same node ? Is it possible to do without changing the load balancing scheme?

What is your interconnect configuration? Single Gig-E? What number is "large"? What do you do with large result sets? Spool them out? It’s GigE. Mostly extract of Multi-Million rows i.e. spool. Other with similar volumes goes to ETL server for complex downstream processing that subsequently gets fed to other targets.
In order to get this behavior you need to have an instance groups that only contains one node each, then change your parallel_instance_group to be that group.Yes. I have been told that by Timur as well with those two links. The links were helpful to understand the mechanics of Parallel Instance Group. In that link ( Part 2 ) mentions that it’s symmetric load balancing but I see he’s not load balancing connection across the both the nodes as he connects to specific nodes. See below excerpts from his blog site. Did I missed or mis-understood anything there?

  • Load balancing across 4 web servers in same datacentre - advice please

    Hi All
Im looking for some advice please
The apps team have asked me about load balancing across some servers but im not that well up on it for applications
Basically we have 4 apache web servers with about 2000 clients connecting to them, they would like to load balance connections to all these servers, they all need the same DNS name etc.
what load balancing methods would I need for this, I believe they run on Linux
Would I need some sort of device, or can the servers run some software that can do this, how would it work? and how would load balancing be achieved here?
    cheers

    Carl,
What you have mentioned sounds very straightforward then everything should go well.
The ACE is a load balancer which takes a load balancing decisions based on different matching methods like matching virtual address, url, source address, etc then once the load balance decision has been taken then the ACE will load balance the traffic based on the load balance method which you have configured (if you do not configure anything then it will use the default which is "round robin"), then it will send the traffic to the servers which it has available and finally the client should get the content.
If you want to get some details about the load balancing methods here you have them:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/ace_appliances/vA3_1_0/configuration/slb/guide/overview.html#wp1000976
For ACE deployments the most common designs are the following.
    Bridge Mode
    One Arm Mode
    Routed Mode
Here you have a link for Bridge Mode and a sample for that:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Basic_Load_Balancing_Using_Bridged_Mode_on_the_Cisco_Application_Control_Engine_Configuration_Example
Here you have a link for One Arm Mode and a sample for that:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Basic_Load_Balancing_Using_One_Arm_Mode_with_Source_NAT_on_the_Cisco_Application_Control_Engine_Configuration_Example
Here you have a link for Routed Mode and a sample for that:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Basic_Load_Balancing_Using_Routed_Mode_on_the_Cisco_Application_Control_Engine_Configuration_Example
Then as you could see in all those links you may end up having a configuration like this:
    interface vlan 40
description "Default gateway of real servers"
      ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
      service-policy input remote-access

    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.1.1

  • CSM(content switching module) supports the 2 tier server load balance ?

    hi everyone,
Does any know the CSM support 2 tier server load balance ?
this means that CSM perform the server load balance for servers and the same servers require another time Server load balance. In the other word,
the CSM supports server port and client port for server load balance ?
    thanks
    fred.

Hi, this seems to describe a typical case of multi-tier design where the CSM needs to handle 2 types of connections:
    1. clients->CSM->serverfarm1
    2. serverfarm1->CSM->serverfarm2
We usually refer to the second type of connections as server-to-server load balanced traffic.
There is no problem in handling that scenario with the CSM and you have a few options.
In particular, each virtual server on the CSM can be configured to only accept incoming connections from a specific VLAN, so you can use that as an additional security measure or to distinguish connections based on which VLAN they come in from.
If you want to, you could even configure the CSM with 2 virtual servers with the same exact virtual IP and L4 port, but listening on 2 separate VLANs (the client-side VLAN and serverfarm1 VLAN) and use a different server farm based on that.
One important thing to keep in mind when handling server-to-server load balanced connections: if serverfarm1 and serverfarm2 are on the same VLAN, you have to configure "client NAT" for the server-to-server connections, to force the return traffic back to the CSM.

  • ARFC: Single Server and Load Balancing

    Hi All,
I am trying to create aRFC model. In SAP logon screen, I can see two tab pages - Single Server and Load Balancing.
Can you please let me know when we have to use which tab?
    Thanks
    TG

Single Server Connect or Load Balancing connect is completely independend from the location where SAP Gui Client is installed.
Single Server connect means that your are directly connecting to an ABAP Server using hostname and systemnumber you have to provide.
Load Balancing Connect means that you specify the message server of the central instance of an ABAP Server group. The SAPGUI first connects to the message server which will provide the SAPGUI with the information about the best performing ABAP server. SAPGUI will then connect to this ABAP server.
Single Server is suitable for small landscapes with lets say less than 4 application servers. In huger configurations (and those which I know will grow to more than 3 servers)I would prefer to use logon groups - aka Load Balancing.

    Hi Vincent,
Can you please eloborate your question ?

  • Using ACE to load balance HTTP/S traffic between client & proxy server using tcp 8080

    Folks,
I have a scenario where ACE is in load balancing connections to a bunch of Websense servers in a one-armed topology.  ACE presents a single VIP to web browser clients and each client's browser proxy configuration is populated with the VIP DNS name.  Traffic then gets load balanced between the Websense servers.  The problem arises due to Websense requiring the 'X-Forwarded-For' HTTP header in order to obtain the source IP of the client.
ACE inserts this header into the standard HTTP 'proxied' traffic but doing this for HTTPS traffic has required the configuration of the ACE SSL proxy client server.
So the problem I have is this:
How to configure ACE to load balance both HTTP & HTTPS applications using a single VIP and tcp port number ie tcp 8080
The ACE hardware being used is ACE20-MOD-K9  -  MODULE
I have attempted to use a L7 class map to match all ciphers and attach this to a L7 Policy-Map but the documentation highlights the fact the 'match cipher' configuration is only available on the ACE appliance.
I believe I am on the correct track.  The HTTPS traffic must be identified and used to match against PolicyA and HTTP traffic matched against PolicyB
I'm looking for ideas!  I'm hopeful someone must have solved this problem previously!!
    Regards,
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
The classification has to work on different ports. Whether client types http or https doesn't matter to client. His request will reach VIP which will classify the traffic based on port, protocol first and then it can look into further detail to send the traffic to appropriate serverfarm.
    You can class-map match-any xxxxx
    2 match virtual-address x.x.x.x tcp any
and then you configure further classification on the basis of L7 like  url, header etc.
But again, you will still need SSL termination on ACE.

    Kanwal

  • Want to know about ACE module in 6509 : load-balancing concept

    Hi,
I am quite new in this field , where i need to configure and understand the concept of load-balancing through ACE.
In my existing network set-up , i have some application servers as well as some other servers where i am looking for load-balancing.
I have gone through some of the site and cisco site as well and i came across ACE module which can be installed in 6509 switch.
I have 6509 switch as well but before going for installing the ACE module I am keen to understand below things:
    1) what is difference between CSM or any other product load-balancer and ACE module :
Gone through site as well , but not getting proper answer or comparison.
    1) I have some of the server configured with clustering and getting one virtual IP, In this case , will ACE work ?
    2) If suppose i go for configuring different IP address with all server IP :
How do i achieve it ?
    3) what is Virtual IP concept in ACE because i do not have and other ACE module then why do i need virtual IP ?
    4) will the load-balancing happens based on destination based or session based ?
Please share the knowledge. It would be great help for me to go ahead with ACE and configure it and understand all the application ?

    Hello,
    1) what is  difference between CSM or any other product load-balancer and ACE  module :
There are several differences but to say simply, you get higher performance and more features with ACE module/appliance comparing others.
One big difference is that with ACE seriese, you can configure multiple contexts on one box (virtual load-balancers on one box) that makes us possible to provide a virtual load-balancer to a customer. In that way, the customer can access and makes changes on only the virtual box. You can split management domain for each customers. Also using contexts, you can assign certain resources available on the hardware for each contexts according to their service contract.
ACE serise has specific hardware chip for supporting SSL termination but some others do not.
For instance, you need a CSM-S, or a CSM and a SSL module to terminate SSL.
The other thing I should mention is that our most recent product is ACE serise that means it has longer product roadmap.
Let me try clarifying your other questions.
    3)  what is Virtual IP concept in ACE because i do not have and other ACE  module then why do i need virtual IP ?
    4) will the load-balancing happens  based on destination based or session based ?
I think I'd better to put 3) and 4) first.
Virtual ip  address (VIP) is the address to which client accesses.
VIP is tied with a  serverfarm or serverfarms, in a serverfarm one or multiple rservers can  be configured.
"serverfarm" is a group of "rservers".
"rserver" means  real-server that has an ip address and processes transactions.
When a client  accesses to the VIP, ACE picks up a rserver according to algorithm.
If you configure a  VIP that is tied with a serverfarm where only one rsever is  configured, client accesses to the virtual ip address are
    all forwarded to  the rserver.
If you configure a  VIP that is tied with a serverfarm where multiple rsevers are  configured,  client accesses to the virtual ip address are
    balanced among  those rservers.
If you configure  multiple VIPs, client accesses to those VIPs are forwareded to  corresponding rservers according to configuration.
    1)  I have some of the server configured with clustering and getting one  virtual IP, In this case , will ACE work ?
ACE load-balances connections to configured rservers.
If the clustered servers are sharing one virtual ip address and you configure the virtual ip address as a rserver, all connections are
sent to the virtual ip address. That is not "load-balancing" on ACE... You need multiple rservers to which ACE load-balances connections.
    2) If suppose i go for  configuring different IP address with all server IP :
How do i  achieve it ?
You can configure those ip addresses as rserver ip address.
Multiple rservers are tied into a group, "serverfarm".
I'm not certain about your culstered servers but I guess you can configure each ip addresses in the culster as rservers.
Then put those rservers in a serverfarm.Client accesses to a virtual ip address configured on ACE for the serverfarm.
This way connections are load-balanced among those rservers depending on load-balancing algorithm you choose.
Above is just an overveiw. ACE gives you granular control not mentioned above.
I can provide more specific information if you tell me details of what you are trying to archive with ACE.
    Regards,
    Kimihito.
