Load Balancing File Shares

I have a client who has an application that includes file shares.  I've never heard of anyone need to load balance files shares, but I'm thinking if this is something we want to do we would need sticky configured or maybe a primary secondary type configuration.
Are there any gotcha's regarding file shares and load balancing?

Hi Shady,
You dont need sticky feature here, since i am assuming all the shares will have all the files, you can have two files sharing servers, and a simple loadbalacing would work in your case. Provided you have setup a replication across the shares and maintain the same data across both of them .

  • Load Balancing - Files to be modified in OBIEE

    Hi,
Currently we are implementing load balancing feature in our environment where we have two windows machines. Each windows box has the BI server and the presentation services installed and on these boxes we have the weblogic as the web application server.
So based on the number of requests, the load balancer feature would send the requests to the corresponding BI presentation services.
    Here My question is
"Once we do the load balancing on the web server, do we need to modify any files like nqsconfig.ini, instanceconfig.xml, web.xml on the OBIEE ?"
    Your response is highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Your architecture design does not make sense and it's against best practices. If you have two BI Servers you will have to maintain two RPDs, are you going to create RPD users in the two RPDs at the same time? Two Presentation Services will also mean two Web Catalogs, how are you going to make sure a report created in one PS gets seen in the other. I don't think you have thought the implications of your design. I suggest you either go a full clustered installation or a basic single server installation unless you know exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it.

  • Load Balancing Windows File Share? Doable ??

So I have a storage design question. The goal of this question is to find out how to best design a high availability storage solution without a single point of failure (SPF).
We need a storage location that needs to be accessed via an smb share in format of \\servername\sharename. We need to have an extremely high available solution as this share will be used to host remote IIS files and other important files being used by multiple
web servers. The most ideal solution is if there is a way to load balance an SMB fileshare so that it can be accessed by \\loadbalanced_name\sharename.
I am not sure if such technology exists for Windows 2008, Windows Storage Server, or with using 3rd party load balancing / file server / iscsi solution.
The current setup of our high available fileshare is with using Windows Clustering with 2 file servers attached to a singled Direct Attached Storage (DAS). Although we never really have an issue with this design, we would like to entirely eliminate the single
point of failure of the DAS.
So, any ideas / Input from anyone?
    Thanks in advance!

FRS had issues, especially with large volumes.  DFS-R solves that.
More importantly, DFS and DFS-R can be used independently, so if you
can't figure out how to get DFS-R working for you, you can always look
into your own replication scheme and just use DFS to get clients to the

  • Load-balancing CIFS

Is-it possible to test CIFS connection with probe ?
We need to check that unc link is ok (read or write).
Are there some TLC script usuable ?

You can use the CIFS to load balance file.by default the CSM will not close open connections when a server fails a probe.
You can however change that behaviour, by configuring the "failaction purge" option: in that case, the CSM will send a RST (there is no way to send a FIN) to the clients, for all open connections to that PROBE_FAILED server.

  • Load Balancing on File Adapter..

    Hi Experts!!
We have run into an issue with load balancing on the sender side which can potentially cause one node to go down.  We have 3 java server nodes on a single XI instance (ABAP & Java), when we pass about 30 to 50 messages of 10 MB size in a file-2-file scenario where each message is sent to eight different receivers, we have observed that the messages are picked up by only one server node on the sender side. The messages do get load balanced on the receiver side but I am not certain what controls this as we also observed that only one server node is active at a time on receiver side (round-robin).  We use ABAP XSLT mapping programs with File content conversion on the receiver side.
We did find that by controlling the rfcengine threads you can load balance the distribution on the mapping service.
Can you please share your experience on how to control/configure load balancing of server nodes on both sender and receiver side in a single XI instance as well as in a cluster with 2 dialog processes.
    Thanks in advance

  • Can I Load Balace a file share witness?

    Hi,
I got AlwaysOn Availability Group working with a file share witness.
The file share reside on a server in my network, hence it's a single point of failure.
Can I put a load balancer endpoint for the file share path when configuring the quorum? (After the configuration I will manually copy the files from file share A to file share B, so they will be the same).
My concern is that I don't know if the quorum configuration changes(making the file shares not the same) without me initiating that change(failover or some other event).
    Thank You!
(Originally I posted that question in "SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery", but I was asked to move it to here.)

    David,
on one hand you say that it is not a single point of failure, but on the other hand you say "or if you have other nodes fail in addition to the FSW". That means that if the FSW is offline I can't have automatic failover, a thing which puts my application
in danger since I relay on automatic failover.
For me not having automatic failover is very bad.
My network is in Azure, the FSW is on one of my web servers(web servers and the database cluster are on different cloud services), since I'm using availability sets I know that at least one web server will be up at any given time. It is possible
that Microsoft will do maintenance or there will be a failure on the infrastructure and the FSW plus one of my sql nodes will be down, I won't have automatic failover in that case.
If you got a solution for me I will be happy to implement it.
    Thank You.

  • Not able to find mod_oc4j.conf file for setting Load Balancing on ESB

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to set load balancing on ESB ,I got one document from oracle site for setting the load balancing on ESB. According to that document we have to change mod_oc4j.conf file for setting the roundrobin:weighted, metric, random algorithms.
But I am not able to find mod_oc4j.conf file in my ORACLE_HOME directory.
    Actual path is
    ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_oc4j.conf file
I have All folders up to conf but in conf folder there is no mod_oc4j.conf file.
I just want to know is there any installation problem or we have to create
mod_oc4j.conf file in that conf folder for seting the loadbalancing on ESB
kindly give me the exact solution on this .
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Chintan,
I have apache folder ,but there i have cong folder but in that I am not able to find mod_oc4j ,I know ESB it maintain load in transparent way but in my project we have heavy load on ESB we have to maintain this load in a proper way
Please give me the exact solution to set load balancing On ESB.

  • BIP and Siebel server - file system and load balancing question

    1. I just need to understand whenever the reports are generated through BIP, are there reports stored on some local directory (say Reports) on the BIP server or Siebel File system? If on a File system how will archiving policy be implemented.
    2. When we talk of load balancing BIP Server. Can the common load balancer be used for BIP and Siebel servers?

  • How to load balance serving MP4 files via AMS

    Hey gurus,
We have one centralized storage server that stores videos, Lets call this Server A, we have 4 more servers that we want to use to load the files from Server A to load balance and location balance the loading of files.
Servers B-E are on a private VLAN with Server A; so what we're doing now is mounting Server A on to Servers B-E and serving the files via AMS; this has proved to be quite inefficient.
For Live Streams; we use multi-point publishing to achieve this; is there a way to do this with recorded files?
    Please advise!
    Thanks

Here are few bits of info:
For load balancing for Analytics, that isn't officially supported yet for the UI and Administration components. It might work with sticky sessions from portal-to-analytics but that doesn't get you much. Improving the options there would be a good enhancement request.
For the collector, I think there are two important things to remember. Use broadcast mode. I've never actually seen it in unicast mode, but broadcast definitely works. Also, remember that this is all managed by Portal and Analytics - you don't use your own load balancer between Portal instances and the Analytics Collector instances.
Finally, ALUI Directory is not certified to be load balanced yet. On a separate note, ALUI Directory has a socket leak on Windows due to a bug in the version of Jrockit that ships with it. Upgrading the embedded application server for the ALUI/WCI installation to jrockit-R27.5.0-jdk1.5.0_14 will resolve it.

  • Load balance data files

    Hi,
I have heterogeneous sources (txt, foxpro, ora tables etc) to be loaded to SQL Server, which I've SSIS pkg working fine to load these data sources . I need to do a load balance to check the records in the file to compare it with loaded rec in sqlserver tables.
Please guide me with the logic to start with, also if there are any generic code available which can be edited to use for load balancing.
    Thanks
    Neil

    Thanks Ernest,
I have a business requirement to fail the pkg at error.  Hence I need to count the rows from the source file itself, is this possible, or will have significant impact on performance.
    Hi Neil,
I would suggest you post the detail error message and elaborate it with more detail. As Ernest's suggest above, we can use "Row Count transformation" which counts rows as they pass through a data flow and stores the final count in a variable.
For detail information, please refer to the articles below:

  • Load Balance/Share two SDSL lines into one 3030

    Hi ...
I am trying to find out if anyone knows the answer to the following.
I have two 2800's each connected to separate SDSL lines tunnelling through to a 3030 concentrator.
I would like both routers to load balance/load share and be on the same network. I thought of setting up GLBP but cannot get my head around how the traffic will come back from the 3030 concentrator.
    many thanks....

I think you can use 3030 concentrator to balance/share the load on per session basis.

  • Connection string in listener log file for loading balance/failover

    Hi Experts,
I have 4 node RAC for oracle 10g2 in rad hate 5.0
We creaed service dbsale ( sale1,2 as pr imary and sale3/4 as available) with loading balance/failover.
The remote user created a local TNS as
    localmarket =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 155.206.xxx.xx)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = OFF)
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = dbsale))
From server side, I saw that user send two request connection string. one fail and another is OK.
It seems that fail connecting come from failover/loading balance from dbsale3?
Why do we get two connection string in listener log file?
Which difference is between two connection string?
Where does system change these connection string?
    Thanks for your explaining.

    Hi Jim,
I think the best way on this case is create one service with one instance as primary and another 3 as available.
Or use the connect string with two vip addresses, cause the service has two instances and the tnsnames.ora entry has only one.

  • How to control a Load Balanced set in IaaS VMs using Text files

    Hi,
I would like to control the Load Balanced nodes Using a resource to probe like active.txt  in IIS than a Endpoint on the Management Portal.
The reason i need this is because the engineers in my team will have access to VMs but not to Management servers.
Any info on it is very helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can Control the access to the Load Balanced Set by using Network ACL. A Network Access Control List (ACL) is a security enhancement available for your Azure deployment. An ACL provides the ability to selectively permit or deny traffic for a virtual machine
endpoint. This packet filtering capability provides an additional layer of security.
Using Network ACLs, you can do the following:
Selectively permit or deny incoming traffic based on remote subnet IPv4 address range to a virtual machine input endpoint.
    Blacklist IP addresses
Create multiple rules per virtual machine endpoint
Specify up to 50 ACL rules per virtual machine endpoint
Use rule ordering to ensure the correct set of rules are applied on a given virtual machine endpoint (lowest to highest)
Specify an ACL for a specific remote subnet IPv4 address.
Network ACLs can be specified on a Load balanced set (LB Set) endpoint. If an ACL is specified for a LB Set, the Network ACL is applied to all Virtual Machines in that LB Set. For example, if a LB Set is created with “Port 80” and the LB Set contains 3 VMs,
the Network ACL created on endpoint “Port 80” of one VM will automatically apply to the other VMs.
    Hope this helps !

  • Load balance xml config store

    Hi
My environment is a workgroup, so failover clustering or other domain based solution are not suitable.
I want to make the xml config store highly available:
server1 and server2 will be behind a load balancer, both servers will have a file share named "AppFabricXmlCofigShare".
Assuming the virtual name for the load balanced point for the servers is "VirtualServer", can I configure AppFabric caching(using the AppFabric configuration wizard) to use the xml store and point to "\\VirtualServer\AppFabricXmlCofigShare"?
*Every update which I will make to the configuration(via PowerShell)
I will manually update on both server1 and server2 so they will be the same.
Logically, I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't work but here is my concern: Does AppFabric updates the config store by itself(without me initiating the update via PowerShell) for its own logic purposes?
Do you got any other concerns about this solution?
    Thank You for your time!

    Status update:
This solution is now well tested and deployed in production, Just remember to update both xml files when you make changes.
For me it's a better solution than sql server based config, because AppFabric loads a lot faster after a server restarts when its config is xml than sql server based config.
I'm still waiting for feedback from some of the Microsoft support here regarding possible issues which may occur when using this solution.
    Thanks.

  • 7.10 installation server, load balancing and multiple installation servers

    Hi
In the 7.10 GUI installation server, there is no Load balancing option anamore, also there seems to be no option to easily clone the installation server from within the nwsapsetupadmin.exe program.
If having MANY users at one location, and needing more than one installation server to accomodate the frontend installations, do you need to do this "manually" now ? grouping users and and the logon script directing different user groups to different sapgui installation servers ?
what about creating multiple installation servers easily, is it possible to simply copy the installation server directory (c:\sapinst f.ex.) to another file server, share the directory and configure the DS and IS services (if needed) ??
will configured packages and "on end install" scripts and such be copied too to the new installation server ?
I need to easily create installation servers in 15 countries, this is the reason for my question...

    Hi Kim Sonny,
    hope you're doing fine
    Regarding your question:
The "Load Balancing" was more a fail-over service and wasn't intended to use for several locations like in your case.
So the easiest way to do this is to setup one installation server and copy the files to the other servers. On the new Installation servers you only have to setup the service again and that's it.
    Cheers,
    Martin
