Load  Balancing Oracle BI Presentation Server with OC4J

Hello All,
Is there a way to perform Load Balancing Oracle BI Presenation Server the way we do with IIS (defining in ISAPIConfig.XML file)?
I am looking some pointers towards Clustering/Load Balancing Oracle BI Presentation Servers using OC4J not IIS.
Thank you.

Thanks , the Oracle BI Presentation Server is running now ,but still the oc4j display the below error :-
C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\bin>oc4j.cmd -start

  • Urgent: Load balance the shared services server

    Hello Experts,
One of my customer would like to know that is there a way to load balance the shared services server i.e., Register one essbase server with more than one Shared services server, so that if one shared services fails the other can authenticate the logins for the essbase server.
Also, referred the following weblink for 11x, Table 3. EPM System High Availability and Load Balancing Matrix
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/epm_high_avail_11111/frameset.htm?ch01s04.html
Do we have any docs for version 9x?
    Environment:
    Essbase 9.3.1.3.00
OS : IBM AIX on POWER Systems (64-bit) 5.3
Any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sonal

I would not attempt any changes until 9.3.1 service fix #16 is released.
Oracle is back-porting clusterware support to with service fix # 16.
HSS 9.3.1sf 16 "active passive failover cluster with Oracle Clusterware 11g, for hss web app and openldap"
Based on the Oracle escalated support resources I have been in touch with solutions are not supported. Please realize this is not load-balancing and is fail-over support only.
To my knowledge there is not a "active-active" 9.3.1 Shared Services that is supported by Oracle.
You can read more about an active-passive fail-over at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/pdf/epm-hss-high-avail-windows-whitepaper.pdf
They are supposed to release a 9.3.1 white paper once service fix #16 is fully released and has been client tested.

  • Http Server with Oc4j

    Hi,
I have installed oracle soa in one host and Http server in another host.(in windows 2003 server).
I need to deploy the war files using Http server .
I need to know, how to configure Http server with Oc4j.
    Regards,
    Latha

    BEST SOLUTION:
Use Apache HTTPD that comes with the SOA Suite distribution. This includes a mod_oc4j which calls the OC4J installation.
More information can be taken from the "Oracle® HTTP Server Administering a Standalone Deployment Based on Apache" guides.
    Here is one link http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/web.1013/b28949/load.htm#sthref637
    MINIMAL SOLUTION:
Implement a page redirect in your HTTP configuration.
    --olaf

  • Switch-independent load-balancing NIC teaming on server-side and MAC/ARP flapping on L2/L3 switches

Since active deployment of Windows Server 2012, our servers support team began to utilize new feature - switch-independent load-balancing NIC teaming. At first look it seems great - no additional network configuration is required and load balancing is performed by server itself by sending frames in round-robin or some hash algorithm out from different NICs (say two for simplicity) but with same MAC address. Theoretical bandwith is now grown up to 2Gbps (if we have two 1G NICs per server) against failover NIC teaming configuration, when one of two adapters is always down.
But how does this affect (if does) switching and routing performance of network equipment? From point of view of L2 switch - it has to rewrite its CAM table each time a server sends frame from different NIC. Isn't it expensive operation? Won't it affect switching in a bad way? We see in our logs that same server make switches to change mac-to-port associations several times per second.
Well, and how does it affect routing, if the switch to which server is connected is L3 switch an performs routing for the subnet server connected to? Will CEF operate well if ARP entry chages several times per second?
    Thank you.

Since nobody answered here, we created service request and got the following answer (in short):
L2 MAC flapping between ports is very bad and you must avoid such configurations as much as possible. There is one possible variant that can be considered in your situation - use port-channel (either L2 or L3), in this configuration port-channel will be treted as single port and there won't be flapping.

    Hi,
I tried to start Oracle BI presentation server manually, and it failed to start.
The event log says the sever returned -1.
I'm suspecting my path and classpath have been corrupted because I have also installed Oracle BI SE. Before the SE installation, I was able to start Oracle BI presentation server. Here are the paths. Do you think anything might be missing?

    Hi Terry,
I hope your issue is resolved but in case it wasn't here is my solution:
I just ran into the same error you had (on Windows ) and in my case this error had to do with
the files sawguidstate and sawguidstate.atr being empty, these files are in the directory $SADATADIR%\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache\<hostname> (example C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache\antares).
I resolved this error by copying the same named files from $SADATADIR%\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache (example C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache) and restarting the Oracle BI Presentation Services.
In was pointed towards this solution by looking at the sawlog0.log file iin the log directory (C:\OracleBIData\web\log)
    Hope this helps, Nasierkhan

  • "could not start the Oracle BI Presentation Server on Local computer error"

    Hello Folks,
i am trying to start the OBIEE Presentation services, The OBIEE server and Java Host Services are started.
i am getting this error and i didnt change any settings and finally getting this error
"Windows could not start the Oracle BI Presentation Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Even Log. If this is a non Microsoft service contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -1."
    thanks

Here is the solution from another freind
    1. Stop BI Server Service > Start BI Server Service > Start BI Presentation Service. If that doesn't work...
    2. Restart machine and follow step 1. If that doesn't work...
    3. Check instantconfig.ini file and check syntax is correct. Also check java directory path mentioned is the valid one. If that doesn't work...
    4. Rename the catalog folder to something else and follow step 1. It will create new catalog folder. Then copy _Shared from old catalog folder and you are good to go.
catalog folder will be in oraclebidata/web/catalog...
either delete the folder and create a new empty one or rename it
also have a look at instanceconfig.ini file
    thanks

  • Load balancing Oracle Forms in Application Server

    Hi,
We're currently planning moving from client-server forms to webforms running on Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2). To meet our high availability requirements, we plan to run our forms app servers active-active. We're coming a little unstuck determining the best method of load balancing requests between these however.
Currently the main sticking point is determining whether to go for software or hardware load balancers. One of the main things we're unsure of is how much traffic we can expect to flow through the network. In our client-server environment we typically have 900-1000 active connections during peak load and ~350 forms coming in at just over 300Mb in total.
If you have any experience load balancing between Oracle Forms on Application Server, we'd appreciate it if you could share details of you setup and how it's performing; particularly:
    * Whether you have software/hardware load balancing
    * The number of connections this supports
    * Details of the volume of network traffic you have
    Thanks,
    Chris

We have implemented both hardware load-balancers and Webcache as load-balancer. Depending on the situation either may be the best solution. In general we recommend to use hardware load-balancers for production systems that require high availability. However, Webcache is very reliable as well and a Webcache instance can be recovered very quickly in case of a failure (use the cloning facility to create a copy of the instance on new hardware within minutes).
When using https for your applications we do not recommend to use WebCache as there are several issues to cope with then, one is performance (https acceleration facilities are often part of hardware load-balancers).

  • Load Balancing Oracle Reports in Report Server

We have 3 Apps box in the production clustered environment. The load balancing is taken care of and when users are trying to connect to the production, they provide the virtual name and Apps server get them connected to any one box. However, when any user try to run a report from the menu, we have to specify the exact report server name. For eg like this
    http://xyz.dc4.pqe/reports/rwservlet?*server=rep_dtgadmapps103_AS10g_mtier*&report=/apps/dis/bin/DISRATN.rep&desformat=pdf&destype=cache
Is there any way to configure a virtual report server name, so the Apps server could take care of the load balancing. Otherwise all the reports are getting flocked to a single server and the queue gets long.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Load Balancing And the Login Server

We have just added load balancing to our cluster of 30980 portal servers. The load balancing works only sporadically. We noticed a round-robin approach was taken in the configuration guides, which is not acceptable to our infrastructure team.
Questions: Is there a problem with using load balancers such as Resonate with Oracle portal? If not, should one machine in the cluster be specifically identified as the login server? Can they each act as login servers for any of the others?

I have had the same problem.
I think whoever programmed the logon routine at that point should be fired immediately and banned from programming for life! Logging on is a very basic and well-understood task, and programmed gozillions of times since 1940s. Common sense and unwritten rules of programming dictate simply if you make something case-sensitive, then you should accept an input in its original form (i.e. password in smalls, or whatever) but not change it to uppercase and then work case-sensitively. Either this, or you program everything case-insensitively.
Fire that programmer or give him to us gollumvoice

  • Site not accessible from the Load balanced web front end server - sharepoint 2010

    I have a production environment with 2 WFE's(sp-wfe1 & sp-wfe2), 2 APP's and 2 SQL clustered VM's.
2 WFE's are load balanced using hardware load balancer.
An A-Record(PORTAL) is created in DNS for the virtual IP of the load balancer which points to the 2 WFE's.
A web application is created on the WFE's on port 80.
alternative access mapping is configured and the load balanced record "http://PORTAL" is used under the default zone.
Under IIS I have edited the bindings for the sharepoint site at port 80 and added the HOSTNAME as PORTAL.
Result: The site is accessible from outside the server and works fine.
ISSUE: The site is not accessible within the WFE's(sp-wfe1 & sp-wfe2).
When I browse the site from the WFE's server it ask for the credentials and when I enter the credentials and click OK it ask the credentials again and again and in the end displays a blank page.
Kindly help me in this issue because I am clueless and couldn't find anything helpful on the internet.

  • Load balancing multiple SSO mid-tier with single SSO database

I want to load balance SSO middle tier servers and have them access a single SSO database. When you install infrastructure and select SSO only it creates a new infrastructure database. How can I install multiple SSO servers and point them to a single database. I am doing Load Balancing with F5 and read an Oracle WP where they mentioned an Oracle supported configuration where they load balanced SSO servers with F5.
    KB

    Two possible solutions:
1.) Oracle 10gAS Enterprise Deployment Guide (B13998-03) follow the configuration for SSO configuration in Chapter 5.
2.) I have not tried this but it should be logically possible with the SSO. 10gAS Administrators guide (B13995-05) Part III Advanced Administration. The success of this method assumes you have OID and SSO each installed in separate homes. You would be cloning the SSO home to another box as if it were a middle tier (it is still part of the infrastructure) then re-configuring it on the new box.
Personally solution 1 is the best method. We are using F5 Big-IP with this configuration and it is working great.
    Hope this helps!

  • Load Balancing and WLS primary server offset

I've got a load balancer in front of my WLS cluster, and I'm trying to
set up load balancing based on WLS clustering. What I need to know to
do this is the offset within the cookie that's responsible for
determining which machine within the cluster to direct to.
Any idea how I can get this information?

In Memory session replication doesn't work without our plugins. I will have to
do little bit of investigation to figure out if other persistence mechanism's
would work without our plugins if you are interested in them. I have to remind
you though that other types of persistence mechanism's we support are slower
compared to in memory session replication.

Currently none. We are taking steps to make the plugin's and cluster more
robust, we currently don't have any plans to work with other 3rd party vendors.

This information is saved in the cookie. But I wouldn't count that, as we
have plans to change this. I cannot give your more details.
