Load Clob datatype into xml db

Hi All,
Please can I know how to load clob datatype in xml database.
In Oracle Data Integrator mapping, my source is clob column and target is xml db.
I get error “incompatible data type in conversion”.
Please can I get some help in resolving the issue.
Thanks.

Also tried
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/t_xml.htm
getStringVal funtion
but it cannot handle more than 4000 characters.
Please can I know how to map clob source to xml db in ODI

• Loading Oracle Schema into XML Schema format

Hello,
I'd like to load the Oracle schema information (tables/views, columns, and constraints) into XML Schema format, then read in the XML Schema information to instantiate objects which will be used to build adhoc/dynamic queries. I have the dynamic query part working, but it was not clear to me how to convert the Oracle schema to XML Schema then XML Schema to custom objects. Does anyone have experience with this or ideas as to how to go about this?
Thanks,

Use the Oracle WebRowSet. The WebRowSet interface extends the RowSet interface and is the XML document representation of a RowSet object. A WebRowSet object represents a set of fetched database table rows, including the database metadata, which may be modified without being connected to the database.

Hi Richard,
This suggests to me that timezone is a feature, and that specifying the UTC time is required. Perhaps others can add more detail.

• How do I Load a clob from an XML field in an XMLTYPE using XMLTABLE ?

I am trying to load data into a CLOB from a XML field using XMLTABLE.
I have a SUMMARY xml field with over 100 K of data (potentialy)
and I can load all the other datatype fields to columns but can not load the xml fields over 4000 characters.
example
First I create a table of XMLTYPE. I need to sqlload new files in at regular intervals.
Create table WEB_XML of XMLTYPE;
Then I create my relational table....
create table WEB_WORKING
request_id varchar(10),
ref_number varchar(20),
summary clob
The I use the .ctl file to sqlload the xml data in
LOAD DATA
INFILE *
INTO TABLE WEB_XML
append
xmltype(XMLDATA)
ext_fname filler char(90),
XMLDATA LOBFILE(ext_fname) TERMINATED BY EOF
BEGINDATA
XMLFILE1.xml
After loading the WEB_XML table using sqlldr, I try to load my relational table using XMLTable
INSERT into WEBBAR_WORKING
request_id ,
ref_number ,
summary
SELECT X.* FROM WEB_XML P2,
XMLTable ( '//Request//REQUESTVIEW'
PASSING P2.object_value
COLUMNS
"request_id" VARCHAR(10) PATH 'REQUEST_ID',
"ref_number" VARchar(20) PATH 'REF_NUMBER',
"SUMMARY" clob PATH 'SUMMARY'
) AS X;
This gives an error saying its not expecting clob
My XML looks somthing like
-<Request>
-<REQUESTVIEW>
<REQUEST_ID>3140</REQUEST_ID>
<ref_number>2003-04-02</RECEIVED_DATE>

OVER 100 K of data

</REQUESTVIEW>
</Request>

ok
that helped lot, im getting there however some more help please
This SQL
SELECT request_id, recieved_by, X.SUMMARY.getClobVal()
FROM WEB_XML P2,
XMLTable
'//Request//REQUESTVIEW'
PASSING P2.object_value
COLUMNS
"request_id" VARCHAR(10) PATH 'REQUEST_ID',
"received_by" VARCHAR(10) PATH 'RECEIVED_BY',
"SUMMARY" xmltype PATH 'SUMMARY'
) AS X;
SELECT request_id, recieved_by, X.SUMMARY.getClobVal()
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00904: "RECIEVED_BY": invalid identifier
If I use the X.request_id, X.received_by ......
i get the error message
Package or function is in aan invalid state.
But this SQL was successful in getting the clob by itself but with the XML tgs around it still, how do I strip the XML tags from around this result ?
SELECT X.SUMMARY.getClobVal()
FROM WEBBAR_XML P2,
XMLTable
'//Request//REQUESTVIEW'
PASSING P2.object_value
COLUMNS
"SUMMARY" XMLTYPE PATH 'SUMMARY'

Hi
Ignore "SQL*Loader-292: ROWS parameter ignored when an XML, LOB or VARRAY column is loaded" error
after importing your csv file just change length CHAR(100000).
ex: your column col1 CHAR(1000) to change CHAR(100000).
and deploy your mapping and execute

• Loading of data from XML into Portal

Hi,
I have a XML schema generated from a Word document, containing chapters and appendices in diffrent levels.
Is it possible to load this document into Portal text items, keeping the chapter/appendix structure?
Regards,
Nathalie

Several third-party tools support converting a DTD into a "first-cut" XML Schema. It likely will need a lot of subsequent work to get it into a useable format -- since for example, all of the datatypes would need to be string.
The tools I've personally used to accomplish this (and surely there are others) are:
[list]
[*]XML Authority from Extensibility
[*]XML Spy 3.0 from Icon Software
[list]
The canonical format for XSU insert is precisely the default output format you would get by using XSU to generate XML for a select * from tablename statement.

• Insert HTML Page into XML CDATA Tag

Hi Guy
I have a very big problem.
I create a little web site and I use XSL + XML to produce output.Now I
want to add a part of html page into xml tag to use a custom page section.
But i find a problme,
see the example :
I use this xml :
<resources>

Hello World

</resources>
trasform xml with xsl page
and my output into html browser is (&lt);B(&gt);Hello World(&lt);/B(&gt);(please remove the bracket( ) while reading the text to understand my problem)
my BOLD html tag is not parse by browser because xslt parser trasform
my special tag into other tag.
I want output like this:
Hello World
But it's coming like (&lt);B(&gt);Hello World(&lt);/B(&gt); (please remove the bracket( ) while reading the text to understand my problem)
Can you help me ?
this is my trasformation function :
private Transformer getXSLTransformer (xslFile) throws
XSLTransformerConfigurationException {
try {
Transformer transformer = null;
tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(new
StreamSource(xslFile)); // load xslFile from disk
} catch (TransformerConfigurationException tce) {
throw new XSLTransformerConfigurationException(tce.getMessage());
return transformer;
public String myTrasform(String xml,String xslFile) throws Exception {
StringWriter outputString = new StringWriter(512);
Transformer transformer = getXSLTransformer (xslFile);
transformer.transform(new StreamSource(new StringReader(xml)), new
StreamResult(outputString));
return outputString.toString();
Thank's in advance.

Oracle® XML DB
Developer's Guide
10g Release 1 (10.1)
Part No. B10790-01
December 2003
1. "Do I use sqlloader and what datatype?"
Use XMLType
2. "I have embedded graphics so do the images get stored separately or does the entire page get stored as a BLOB datatype?"
Page 827:
The Oracle XML DB native datatype XMLType helps store and manipulate XML. Multiple storage options (Character Large Object (CLOB) or structured XML) are available with XMLType, and administrators can choose a storage that meets their requirements. CLOB storage is an un-decomposed storage that is like an image of the original XML.

• QUERYING CLOB DATATYPE

Hello Everyone,
Before I go to my question let me give you the context. I wanted to upload the description of a set of products with their IDs into my database. Hence I created a table 'demo' with two columns of INT and CLOB datatypes using the following script. *create table demo ( id int primary key, theclob Clob );*
Then I create a directory using the following script, *Create Or Replace Directory MY_FILES as 'C:\path of the folder.......\';*
In the above mentioned directory I create one .txt file for each product with the description of the product. Using the below script I created a procedure to load the contents of the .txt files into my 'demo' table.
*CREATE OR REPLACE*
*PROCEDURE LOAD_A_FILE( P_ID IN NUMBER, P_FILENAME IN VARCHAR2 ) AS*
*L_CLOB CLOB;*
*L_BFILE BFILE;*
*BEGIN*
*INSERT INTO DEMO VALUES ( P_ID, EMPTY_CLOB() )*
*RETURNING THECLOB INTO L_CLOB;*
*L_BFILE := BFILENAME( 'MY_FILES', P_FILENAME );*
*DBMS_LOB.FILEOPEN( L_BFILE );*
*DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE( L_CLOB, L_BFILE,*
*DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH( L_BFILE ) );*
*DBMS_LOB.FILECLOSE( L_BFILE );*
*END;*
After which I called the procedure using, *exec load_a_file(1, 'filename.txt' );*
When I queried the table like, select * from demo; I am getting the following output..... which is all fine.
ID THECLOB
1 "product x is an excellent way to improve your production process and enhance your turnaround time....."
_*QUESTION*_
When I did the exact same thing in my friend's machine and query the demo table, I get garbage value in the 'theclob' column (as shown below). The only difference is that mine is an enterprise edition of Oracle 11.2.0.1 and my friends is an Express edition of Oracle 11.2.0.2. Does this has anything to do with the problem?

To make sure that the .txt files are accessible in the directory I executed the following script, Host Echo Hello World > C:\...path...\1.Txt
After which I found the contents of the file changed to "Hello World". Later I loaded the .txt file with "Hello World" and queried the table. Still I am getting some garbage value. However since the string "Hello World" is much smaller than the previous contents, the garbage size is also smaller for ID 1. I don't get any errors, but you can see the output as follows.

The most common problem I have seen using BFILEs is the character set; BFILEs do NOT handle character set conversion.
That is the main reason I don't recommend using BFILEs for loading data like this. Either SQL*Loader or external tables can do the job and they both handle character set conversions properly.
See the LOADFROMFILE Procedure of DBMS_LOB package in the PL/SQL Language doc
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28419/d_lob.htm#i998778
>
Note:
The input BFILE must have been opened prior to using this procedure. No character set conversions are performed implicitly when binary BFILE data is loaded into a CLOB. The BFILE data must already be in the same character set as the CLOB in the database. No error checking is performed to verify this.
Note:
If the character set is varying width, UTF-8 for example, the LOB value is stored in the fixed-width UCS2 format. Therefore, if you are using DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE, the data in the BFILE should be in the UCS2 character set instead of the UTF-8 character set. However, you should use sql*loader instead of LOADFROMFILE to load data into a CLOB or NCLOB because sql*loader will provide the necessary character set conversions.

I suggest you use an external table definition to do this load. You can do an ALTER to change the file name for each load.
See External Tables Concepts in the Utilities doc for the basics

• Loading Clob and Blob data using DBMS_LOB

I am loading some data into a table that has five columns, two of which are defined as BLOB and CLOB respectively. I get the following errors after the pl/sql procedure that loads it has completed running :
ERROR:ORA-21560: argument 3 is null,
invalid, or out of range
ERROR:ORA-22297: warning: Open LOBs exist
at transaction commit time.
The following is the outline of the code that loads the table:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE load_data(dir,seq_val,file_name,
details, etc <== all these are passed in) IS
dest_loc BLOB;
src_loc BFILE;
Amount INTEGER;
new_dir string(1000);
new_file string(1000);
BEGIN
new_dir := ''||dir||'';
new_file := ''||file_name||'';
src_loc := BFileName(new_dir,new_file);
Amount := dbms_lob.getlength(src_loc);
insert into table A
(id
,ver
,ver
,fil_nm <== This field is a BLOB
,details <== This Field is a CLOB
values
(seq_val
,1
,version
,empty_blob()
,detailed_infor
--dbms_output.put_line(Amount);
SELECT fil_nm INTO dest_loc FROM table A WHERE id = seq_val FOR UPDATE;
/* Opening the LOB is mandatory: */
--dbms_output.put_line('IN SELECT...');
DBMS_LOB.OPEN(src_loc, DBMS_LOB.LOB_READONLY);
/* Opening the LOB is optional: */
DBMS_LOB.OPEN(dest_loc, DBMS_LOB.LOB_READWRITE);
DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE(dest_loc, src_loc, Amount);
/* Closing the LOB is mandatory if you have opened it: */
DBMS_LOB.CLOSE(dest_loc);
DBMS_LOB.CLOSE(src_loc);
--dbms_output.put_line('After SELECT...');
COMMIT;
END
Any feedback would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I assume thats when the ORA-21560: argument 3 is null, invalid, or out of range error occurs. I'm also wondering why and what the other error means saying LOBs are open during transaction commit time. The data is coming from an xml file that is in the following format.
-

<FIL_NM>TEST.PDF</FIL_NM>
<VER>2</VER>
<DETAILS>xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyzzzzzzzzzmmmmmmsusssuitttttretc</DETAILS>
</REPORT>

So what this procedure is doing is opening the pdf and loading the data into the BLOB. I just can't understand what is causing those errors.

• Conversion of BLOB datatype to CLOB datatype

Hi,
I would need to convert the column datatype from BLOB to CLOB. currently in the table, the BLOB column has the data. the requirement is to convert this column from BLOB to CLOB datatype.
please help me how to convert from BLOB datatype to CLOB datatype
Thanks
Hari.

I have just been dealing with the same issue -- mass conversion of data in BLOB form to CLOB. I think I've finally got it working well. I have a table that has an key column then both a BLOB and a CLOB column. I load the BLOBS into the table then run the following PLSQL block (uses the given proc) to transfer the data from the BLOB column to the CLOB column.
-- Proc to convert BLOB to CLOB
create or replace function stg.blob_to_clob( p_blb in blob ) return clob is
v_clb   clob    ;
v_dst   integer := 1 ;
v_src   integer := 1 ;
v_wrn   integer ;
v_lng   integer := dbms_lob.default_lang_ctx ;
begin
dbms_lob.createtemporary ( v_clb, false ) ;
dbms_lob.converttoclob
( dest_lob      =>  v_clb
, src_blob      =>  p_blb
, amount        =>  dbms_lob.lobmaxsize
, dest_offset   =>  v_dst
, src_offset    =>  v_src
, blob_csid     =>  dbms_lob.default_csid
, lang_context  =>  v_lng
, warning       =>  v_wrn
if  ( dbms_lob.NO_WARNING != v_wrn )  then
v_clb := '~~~{ Error: Invalid Character in source BLOB }~~~' ;
end if ;
return v_clb ;
exception
when others then
v_clb := '~~~{ Error: BLOB Conversion Function Failed }~~~' ;
return v_clb ;
end ;
-- Use the proc above to convert each BLOB to a CLOB in the given table.
declare
cursor c1 is
/* Select the BLOBS to be converted. */
select  id,  m_blob,  m_clob
from  stg.temp_cnvrt
/* Trying to convert NULL BLOBS will result in an error */
where  dbms_lob.getlength(m_blob) > 0
for update ;
v_tmp_clob   clob ;
begin
FOR  nxt in c1  LOOP
v_tmp_clob := stg.blob_to_clob( nxt.m_blob ) ;
update  stg.temp_cnvrt
set  m_clob = v_tmp_clob
where  current of c1 ;
END LOOP ;
commit ;
end ;

• Error in CLOB datatype for transfering data from Excel to Oracle database

Am using excel sheet as source and Oracle as target Database.
For all tables the operations works smoothly except for tables containing CLOB datatype.
Initially i have used SQL Developer to transfer some data into excell sheets, now i want to transfer those file's data into another Oracle Database.
What other options do i have?
Is excel not the right tool to transfer CLOB datatypes?

well,
I couldn't suggest an excel to do it...
You can go from Oracle to Oracle with the PL/SQL IKM. It works fine.
Does it help you?
