Load Documentation to Data elements

Hi,
I'm looking for a smart standard solution (BAPI?)  to load documentation in DDIC to data elements.
The data which should be loaded is provided by an excel-file .
How knows a standard report or a BAPI/function module ?
Thx in advance
Peter

I think a BDC can be done on transaction SE61 with appropriate input......Unfortunately, I can't check the feasibility as I don't have authorization for the transaction as of now........
Got a FM for this.......Chcek the code below...
DATA: i_lines  TYPE TABLE OF tline,
      wa_lines TYPE tline.
* Create Documentation
wa_lines-tdformat = '*'.
wa_lines-tdline   = 'TEST'.
DO 50 TIMES.
  APPEND wa_lines TO i_lines.
ENDDO.
* Create Document
CALL FUNCTION 'DOCU_UPD'
  EXPORTING
    id       = 'DE'            "For Data Element
    langu    = sy-langu
    object   = 'YA038539TEST5' "Data Element Name
  TABLES
    line     = i_lines
  EXCEPTIONS
    ret_code = 1
    OTHERS   = 2.
IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
  WRITE 'Documentation Update Successful'.
ENDIF.

  • How to make BI Info obj Data element in-herit source DE documntn?

    Say I am in ECC. I go to SE11, give table name MARA and then doubleclick on the dataelement 'MATNR'. Then I click on documentation. I get a popup with Short text " Material Number" and Definition "Alphanumeric key uniquely identifying the material'.
    I am interested in the latter information that is 'Definition' - & in general whatever documentation comes up for data element in ECC.CRM.SCM,SRM.
    Now I log into SAP BI. I find that under characteristic 0Material, the data element is /BI0/oimaterial. When I double-click this datamaterial and press the documentation button, the system says 'No documentation'.
    My Questions:
    1. IS there a switch we could turn on in source ECC/SRM/CRM/SRM so that the data element in SAP BI inherits the original source field data element documentation.
    { I am not too convinced of the argument- that in BI we have info objects in ECC we have fields - since I am talking of data element level information- I would tend to think of this as an oversight of the designers or de-prioritization !!}.
    2. Could we have an ABAP workaround? That is, in BI we identify the tables that house the mapping between the source and destination data elementsa and take out this information. Then we extract the dataelement documentation by function DOCU_GET (from eCC) and use the mapping info above to link SAP BI data element with source data element documentation.
    WHY do I want to punish myself as above? My use case is, we take out SAP BI Table, field, metadata etc and create a model in a modeling tool and physical implementation in a 3rd party DW database as our own canonical, application-agnostic corporate datawarehouse. I would want the source data element documentation to flow to this last system as well as the modeling tool.

    That is, in BI we identify the tables that house the mapping between the source and destination data elementsa and take out this information. Then we extract the dataelement documentation by function DOCU_GET (from eCC) and use the mapping info above to link SAP BI data element with source data element documentation.
    1) SAP don't supply this, I would imagine, because R/3 isn't the only possible source of data.  I'm currently working on an app that extracts from R/3, an Oracle database and APO.  From whence should I take the documentation for my MATERIAL info object?  While being able to transfer the documentation of data elements might be very useful for your app, I can't see that generally it would be of interest to clients - I've certainly never heard of such a requirement.  So, my opinion at least, it isn't a design flaw.
    2) As you've pointed out, you can get the tables that do the mapping, so you know the source data elements, so you can get the documentation.  I'm not sure of how to store the documentation, but the obvious candidate for a link between infoobject and dataelement would be master data of an own infoobject.  You could wrap DOCU_GET in an RFC (if it isn't RFC enabled), and do a direct call between your 3rd party app and r/3 to get the documentation.  For information about the mapping tables, I'd suggest asking that question specifically in one of the BI forums.

  • URL link in data element documentation

    Is it possible to create a url link within the documentation of a data element to allow the user to launch the web browser and navigate directly to a specified webpage?

    Hello,
    I am not sure but you can try this out. Go to se38 and documentation for a test program. Click on Goto and then Change editor. write a text that you want to give a link to. Make its paragraph format as SAPfind Reference. Select the text goto insert link. It will pop you up with a box. give the name of your program but how to link it is another mystery.
    Try these function modules.
    IWB_HTML_HELP_OBJECT_SHOW
    IWB_HTML_HELP_EXTENDED_HELP
    and see this program BCALV_GRID_F4_HELP may be of some help.

  • Use of documentation flow in data element!!!!

    hi experts,
      what is the use of documentation flow in data element.
    if that field is selected then where will be changes reflected ?
    thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    Changing Data Element documentation (F1 help text)
    SAP allows you to modify data element documentation (F1 help text), this could be useful if you want to add/remove information from the F1 help text. E.g. If you are using the field to store info it was not intended for.
    Step 1
    Using transaction CMOD chose the following menu option
    Menu Goto->TExt Enhancements_>data elements->list cust docu.
    Enter the data element that you wish to change the documentation text for, then click the change icon(Pencil in 4.6c and tick in 4.6b). You will then be presented with the following screen, which allows you to create new versions of the data element documentation. Simply click on the Change button and enter a name within the customer name range.

    Hi, is it possible to insert a URL within a data element documentation ? I know it is possible to link the F1 help functionality to go to a URL instead of the data element documentation, but what was asked is to display the regular documentation for the data element, but include a URL to a web site for further information. Any idea how to do this ?

  • SAPScript: includung a domain documentation in a data element documentation

    Dear ABAPers,
    I have a couple of (self-defined) DDIC data elements referring all to the same domain. How does the SAPScript INCLUDE-command need to look like in order to include the domains text in the data element text? (which object and which ID needs to be provided for domain documentation?).
    Thanks in advance
    Andreas

    Hi Pushpraj,
    for any kind of DDIC-object (table, structure, data element, domain...) you can maintain documentation, which is saved as SAPScript (there is a button "Documentation" or in the case of the domains you have to go via the menu "Goto -> documentation"). In that sort of SAPScript-based texts you can basiscally include any other SAPScript-Text with the INCLUDE-Command.
    Example: with SAPScript Command "INCLUDE BELEGART" you can reuse SAPs standard help-text for field BKPF-BLART. But usually the SAPScript INCLUDE command looks like this:
    INCLUDE <name_of_text> OBJECT <object> ID <ID>.
    Thanks

    My last attempt was a command using colons and semicolons with the following results.  The closest (there was a significant delay before the error or failure) appears to have been //PRODSQL43;SQL3:1534; (second attempt).  The error listed from this attempt is   "Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect".
    I also checked the default database that user SAPPEMDB has in place and it is assign the correct database.

    Hey,
    It looks like one of the following:
    1. The DB is down,
    2. The user SAPPEMDB does not have the right authorization.
    3. The password of the user SAPPEMDB is not password
    4. The syntax is incorrect
    in order to find what is the problem,
    please:
    1. Login in the the DB PRODSQL43:1534 with the user "SAPPEMDB" and the password "password",
    this will eliminate the options 1 - DB down, 2 -SAPPEMDB does not have authorization and 3 - password of the user SAPPEMDB is not password.
    2. If the login failed, than please run sql trace with security elements (in the client there is a tool called "SQL Profiler"
    3. If the login is correct, than you check the syntax of the command:
    "java -Djava.ext.dirs=. -jar SAPtrans.jar import logfile=import.log datafile=init.dat connectstring=com.ddtek.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver; jdbc:datadirect:sqlserver://vma03:1433;SAPC11DB;password"
    According to the error message "Error establishing socket. Connection refused"
    it looks like The DB is down or syntax is incorrect.

  • Creation of Data Element

    Hi,
    I am working on special project of Automation of all utility billing and housing system for a big company in SAP.
    For that I have to create 26 tables and obviously I am creating a lot of dataelements.
    Now the problem is my quality dept says that I should use the inbuilt data elements and refrain from creating new ones. In this case the field label is not matching my field. He says that who is going to see the table and says that you can change the field description in reports as you like. Is it justified.
    I can see that there are more than 500 standard datalements created for  a char field of length 4 by SAP. but none of the description matches my field description. if the case is of reducing the load then does sap recommend not to create z data elements.
    Can we create dataelement just for the sake of field label and what is the other purpose of a dataelement if not
    How much load will be generated by creating a dataelement.
    kindly give some insight into the need to create dataelements.

    Hi!
    If your Quality people are that much particular about creation of data elements, there is one way to solve this problem. Use standard data elements.
    I know here you will get a doubt that after creating a maintenance generator you will not be able to see the description whatever you want in SM30. For this follow the below procedure.
    While creating maintenance generator you will give the function group name right, go to SE80 -> and give the function group name there -> double click on the screen number of maintenance -> click on element list tab -> click on 'Texts/I/O templates' tab -> now against the field names under 'Text or I/O Field' column remove the value '+____________' and type the field description there -> repeat the procedure for all the fields -> now save, check and activate the screen as well as function group.
    Now if you go to SM30, you can see the field description for every field.
    This is somewhat time consuming, but it may help you.
    Reward points, if useful.

    Venkat.

    Characteristic Name
    Definition
    Name that uniquely identifies a *characteristic*.
    >> The "characteristics" comes in hyperlinked bluecolor and if we press this it linked to below --- >>
    Definition: characteristic
    Classification (CA-CL)
    Property for describing and distinguishing between objects, such as length, color, or weight.

  • Loading of presummarized data into Analytic Workspace

    Hi,

    TOP_LEVEL LEAVES_LEVEL
    DI_B:
    b1 ________

    There is a cube named CUBE_1 based on the two dimensions and a measure MEASURE_1 defined in it.
    Fact table:
    DIM_A DIM_B MEASURE_1
    a1 b1 100
    a2 b2 2
    a2 b3 5
    a3 b2 4
    a3 b3 3
    My CUBE_1 cube is mapped to the fact table.
    The structure of my AW is created in AW Manager.
    What should I do to make the following row to be summarized with the rest o f t he rows?
    DIM_A DIM_B MEASURE_1
    a1      b1      100
    I expect the value of 100 to be added to the vaue comming from the aggregation of the leaves.
    In the documentation of AWManager there is said: "Data may also be loaded that has been presummarized in an other system."
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/1451_AWM10g.pdf, page 11.
    Regards,
    azawada

    In my experience if you want to load pre-aggregated data into a cube you need to modify your cube mapping. The assumption is that your source fact table contains all the possible permutations for the specified dimension member. You then make multiple mappings from the source dimension column to each level listed in the dimension section of the cube mapping object.
    Within the cube definition you then need to assign the aggregation method of Non-additive on the 'Rules' tab and de-select all the levels on the 'Summarize To' tab
    Hope this helps

  • Loading unpacked Zoned data into NUMBER data types

    I need to use SQL*Loader to load data created on an MVS machine (EBCDIC) which is FTP'd to AIX (converted to ASCII during the FTP). Some of the data elements have signed unpacked numeric data. These need to be loaded into two types of fields in Oracle - 1) defined as data type NUMBER(19) 2) - defined as data type NUMBER (38,2) (i.e. dollar field with 2 decimal positions). For the dollar data I am loading there is an implied decimal. I need to know how to code SQL*Loader statements to handle these two situations. Because I have zoned unpacked source the resulting data loaded into the table must have a trailing sign (only if negative). Also the dollar fields need to have an explicit decimal inserted - and these dollar fields could also end up being negative.
    Any help would be appreciated. Various google searches have not given me the answers I need.

    979755 wrote:
    Most helpful. Pardon a few follow-on questions:
    1. The Zoned definition refers (I hope) to the data on the input file - regardless of the definition of the field field being loaded in the table (in my case the field in the table is defined as NUMBER) - is this a true statement?
    True, in your controlfile you set (for example): , zonedCol POSITION(x:y) ZONED(precision,scale)
    2. If I am correct on item 1, if I have a negative number in the input file (let's say a negative 10) is a trailing sign loaded into the database (so it will be 10-)?
    NO, to deal with signed numbers, you set trailing signs as table column in a staging table and then apply to real table.
    3. What happens to any leading zeroes when the data is loaded into the table?
    Ignored.
    4. For dollar fields where the source has an implied decimal but I want an implicit decimal in loaded into the table and the number can be positive or negative, can I specify this as ZONED (10.2) in the control file?
    See answer #2.
    ZONED (10,2) implies field is 10 characters long and the last two are decimals.
    5. And finally, regarding item 4 my understanding is that ZONED (10.2) would result in 12345678.12 (with a negative sign if appropriate) - is this a correct understanding?
    Nope, only the digits. That is why we use staging table to capture the sign.
    PS: The best would be to create external table on the source file.

I want to know how to set their values to null (nil?) if there is no data in the corresponding source XML schema element. Any ideas?
    I get syntax errors with xquery set up like this:
    if (data($iter_requestXML1/mySourceDate) != "" ) then
    xs:date($iter_requestXML1/mySourceDate)
    else
    (nil)
    I want to do something like above, but I don't know the right syntax.
    However if I leave the "else" clause as:
    else ()
    Then I don't have a syntax error, but I get an exception whenever I try to reference the target XML element whenever their was no data for this element.
    In the last example, I am thinking I get the reference error because the element was never initialized to NULL or NIL. Bit I don't know how to set it. Please Help!

    Hi Ilona,
    I think you alread have the solution. Create a new dso. Load the data from your 'old' dso month wise. So start with january. Just post the data in that case. Next load february. In the update rules, read the active table of your 'new' dso to get the related data for each record for the previous month. Calculate your new value and post the request.....

  • OWB11gR2 - simple and easy way to load XML formatted data into db tables?

    Hi,
    we're currently trying to load table data stored in XML files into our datawarehouse using OWB 11gR2.
    However, we're finding this is not quite as trivial as loading flat files...
    Most postings on this forum points to the blog-entry title "Leveraging XDB" found here (http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/2007/09/leveraging_xdb.html).
    This blog also references the zip-file owb_xml_etl_utils.zip, which seems to have disappeared from it's original location and can now be found on sourceforge.
    Anyway, the solution described is for OWB 10g, and when trying to import experts from the zip-file etc. we end up not being able to run the "Create ETL from XSD" expert, as the 11gR2 client is different from the 10g and does not have the Experts menu et.al.
    Also, this solution was published over 3 years ago, and it seems rather strange that importing XML-formatted data should still be so cumbersome in the newer warehouse builder releases.
    The OWB 11gR2 documentation is very sparse (or rather - quite empty) on how to load XML data, all it has is a few lines on "XML Transformations", giving no clue as to how one goes about loading data.
    Is this really the state of things? Or are we missing some vital information here?
    We'd have thought that with 11g-releases, loading XML-data would be rather simple, quick and painless?
    Is there somewhere besides the blog mentioned above where we can find simple and to the point guidelines for OWB 11gR2 on how to load XML-formatted data into Oracle tables?
    Regards,
    -Haakon-

    Yes it is possible to use SQL*Loader to parse and load XML, but that is not what it was designed for and so is not recommended. You also don't need to register a schema, just to load/store/parse XML in the DB either.
    So where does that leave you?
    Some options
    {thread:id=410714} (see page 2)
    {thread:id=1090681}
    {thread:id=1070213}
    Those talk some about storage options and reading in XML from disk and parsing XML. They should also give you options to consider. Without knowing more about your requirements for the effort, it is difficult to give specific advice. Maybe your 7-8 tables don't exist and so using Object Relational Storage for the XML would be the best solution as you can query/update tables that Oracle creates based off the schema associated to the XML. Maybe an External Table definition works better for reading the XML into the system because this process will happen just once. Maybe using WebDAV makes more sense for loading XML to be parsed (I don't have much experience with this, just know it is possible from what I've read on the forums). Also, your version makes a difference as you have different options available depending upon the version of Oracle.
    Hope all that helps as a starter.
