Creation of Data Element

Hi,
I am working on special project of Automation of all utility billing and housing system for a big company in SAP.
For that I have to create 26 tables and obviously I am creating a lot of dataelements.
Now the problem is my quality dept says that I should use the inbuilt data elements and refrain from creating new ones. In this case the field label is not matching my field. He says that who is going to see the table and says that you can change the field description in reports as you like. Is it justified.
I can see that there are more than 500 standard datalements created for a char field of length 4 by SAP. but none of the description matches my field description. if the case is of reducing the load then does sap recommend not to create z data elements.
Can we create dataelement just for the sake of field label and what is the other purpose of a dataelement if not
How much load will be generated by creating a dataelement.
kindly give some insight into the need to create dataelements.

If your Quality people are that much particular about creation of data elements, there is one way to solve this problem. Use standard data elements.
I know here you will get a doubt that after creating a maintenance generator you will not be able to see the description whatever you want in SM30. For this follow the below procedure.
While creating maintenance generator you will give the function group name right, go to SE80 -> and give the function group name there -> double click on the screen number of maintenance -> click on element list tab -> click on 'Texts/I/O templates' tab -> now against the field names under 'Text or I/O Field' column remove the value '+____________' and type the field description there -> repeat the procedure for all the fields -> now save, check and activate the screen as well as function group.
Now if you go to SM30, you can see the field description for every field.
This is somewhat time consuming, but it may help you.

I have doubt in data element creation ie, there is 2 options elementary type
(domain and built-in-type) and reference type (name of the reference type &
ref to predefined type). if there is built in type here then what is the use of

Hi!
With the use of the built-in type, you have to set always in every different data element the exact type.
With the use of the domains (pre-defined types) you just have to enter the domain name into the data element. If you have to modify the type, you can maintain it in the domain (only once) but the built in types have to modifyed in every data element (which means more work).
Domains have a little more options also, than the built in types.

Creation of field without data element

Hi all,
i want to create a field SLNO without data element, i.e. by assigning direct data type NUMC.
by doing so while activating it is giving the below message.
"The table must be adjusted by unloading and reloading
it in the database. This function has a long runtime and should
not be performed while the table is being used for production."
"If you want to start the adjustment nevertheless,
select a processing type and choose 'Adjust'.
Otherwise choose 'Terminate'."
pls let me know which is better i.e. by assingning direct data type, or else can i create a data element with type as 'NUMC'.

hi venkat,
when creating the db table in se 11 ,if u want to use predefined data type ie char,numc,date etc ... With in se14,in fields tab, click predefined type button which is placed in the first row along with cut ,delete icons.
When u click predefinedtype button, the field named data type will be enabled and its there ready for editing.Choose the data type u need and data length etc.
If u r creating the db for the first time, there is no need for , adjusting the db table using se14.
But if u r trying to edit a db ,that is already been created , then make neccessary changes in the db and go to se14. There give ur edited db name, and click "activate and adjust database " button...Ensure that "save data " option button is selected.
Note:
If u r making any structural changes in already existing db ,then use se14 to adjust ,save and activate the db.

IDOC Creation - structure has no data elements

Hello,
I've encounted the following situation when creating a new custom idoc:
The structure in the data dictionary does not have any components (Data elements) associated with each field. (i.e if you view the structure using se11). This is causing problems when trying to build ALE conversion rules using BD79 as you cannot tell which field is which for conversions with muliple conditions.
Does anyone know how to get data elements against the fields in the dictionary structure. Standard SAP idocs appear to have them - see E1MARCM.
(we are using version 4.7)

I am assuming that although you are creating a custom idoc you are referring to standard strucutre already existing for your segment.
I am not very clear here, how did you create the segment. Can you clarify on the same?

What are you trying to achieve here? It sounds like you want to create new structures or use FMs to replace the data retrieval for the existing structures. This cannot be done in OrgChart, at least not through the AdminConsole.
The structure is called in one call, as well as the data in the nodes. However, for each data source (e.g. NakisaRFC) used in a node there will be a call. For example, if you show position data from HRP1000 and employee data from PA0001 in a node then there will be 2 calls (which calls the data for all nodes at once). You can use an FM to do one call, but this would be in the view and not in the structure. The details panel makes multiple calls to retrieve data, so you can write an FM to call all data in one call rather than many.
You should refer to page 58 of the OrgChart Admin Guide for more information on custom RFCs.

Automatic creation of cost elements

Dear All,
The automtic creation of cost elements functionality is not working for some GL accounts in production. When new GL accounts are created, the same are not created as cost elements. All the standard settings viz 'selection of automatic creation' in controlling area configuration, creation of number ranges in OKB2 etc are in place. We posted in OSS and they are not able to find reasons why this is happening.
Has anyone faced a situation like this? Please post your valuable thoughts and share your inputs. We currently have a log created by user on this and pending for quite sometime.

Yes. We do face problem like this often. We wriggle out by updating through manually when we are very nearer to go-live date. Otherwise, we can create an abap program and meet the deficiency.

Automatic creation of WBES element using front end application

Hi,
i am looking at developing a front end tool where user will provide the required data and project name/wbes lement in the request. upon approval from project manager, sytem must creation requird WBE element in the requested project automatically. there will be multiple requests supplied to create wbes lements under the existing projects.
for Eg. assume that there is a project AB11.00001
i have already have one 4th level wbes element like displayed below:

AB11.00001.01.01.01
AB11.00001.01.01.02
AB11.00001.01.01.03
now i would like to add new 3rd level and 4th level for above project as mentioned below:

i want only the clues how i can execute this using some of the available SAP functionalities.. ofcourse finest ABAP'rs only think out of the box to solve this and rest will usually answer it as not feasible.

Manual/Autometic creation of cost elements in chart of accounts field

Dear Friends,
While creation of Chart of accounts (OB13) under Controlling Integratiion tab
thers is two options are there.
1 manual creation of cost elements
2 autometic creation of cost elements.
While creation of cost elements if we select
(MANUAL CREATION OF COST ELEMENTS) what will happen???
(AUTOMETIC CREATION OF COST ELEMENTS) what will happen?
What is the main difference between about two fields?

Hi,
MANUAL CREATION OF COST ELEMENTS - Cost elements maintained manually. A push button is available for
this purpose, with which you can go directly to the related cost
element.
AUTOMETIC CREATION OF COST ELEMENTS - Cost elements maintained automatically. When you save a new G/L
account, the related cost element is automatically created. A prerequisite is that a default value for the cost element category
has been set up for this cost element. If no default value is found, the system will not create a cost element.
You can make default settings via :
Cost Element accounting --> master data --> cost element --> automatic creation of primary and secondaru cost element --> make default settings

Question regarding creation of xml-elements with numerical values

When i create xml-documents from xml stored in the database (xmltype table based on an xml-schema), i find that numerical values which were stored as 0.395 (with the "." as the decimal separator) are retrieved as .395.
Is it possible to apply a format mask so that the numerical value is retrieved as 0.395?

N.b. Note that i select a complete xml-fragment. So my problem seems related to the storage or retreival of 'schredded' XML. I do not use SQL/XML-functions with relational data, in which case i know how to apply a format mask.

I don't use XSLT, i just query the XML-documents stored in an XMLType column with a simple SQL-statement.

Regarding custom currency data element issue in custom Table.....

I am currently working on creation of a Z custom table in SAP. There is data coming from
mainframe for amount field in the form -9999.9999.
To store data like this I am creating a custom Z data element with Z domain definition as follows:
Data type; Curr
No of characters: 5
Decimal places: 4
Sign box is checked.
Now when I use this Z data elemnt for a firle in custom table, while activating, it asks for table refernce and table field. What do I give it here ?

Hi Jainam,
very basic ABAP knowledge: A field of type CURR isn used to store a currency amount. Every currency field must be connected to a currency key of type CUKY.
The same concept applies for quantities and units.
You can spare a lot of trouble if you look at standard tables and programs, copy or use data elements and/or structures from standard.
If you want to re-invent the world, you may need more than seven days.

Creation of data type

hi all.
sorry i just want some information in creation of data type which i svery ease to solve.
and it is i had seen one data type which was creatd by my colleague and its haveing occurance 1..unbounded for some and 1..10 for remaining elements and the other thing is in details she has given MAXLENGHT.
i just want to know y she has given these things under data type.

Hi,
All data types are described by XML Schema. All required information about XML Schemas you will get from:
<a href="http://W3C XML Schema">http://www.w3.org/XML/Schema</a>
You can create data types either directly in IR using data type editor or import from external definitions.
Occurence, maxlength are properties of tags, attributes etc. and are defined by XML Schema.

i hav a doubt regarding creation of node element. u can create new node element using method create(cn)Element available either directly from wdContext or from wdContext.node(cn) where cn is any context node.
can any one plz explain me what's the difference between two.
does it has any thing to with node being singelton or non-singelton?
also can anyone explain me the difference between add and bind method.

ADD METHOD->
Two add methods that add an element.
○     If only the element is transferred as parameter, then the element is added at the and of a list

check the tables CDHDR AND CDPOS...Moreover SCDO transaction is used for change pointers concept for idoc..in this transaction we can specify the ztable directly and then in BD52 we can give the change object name ,ztable and the fields ..when we give these entries,will be stored in BDCP table.

Creation primary cost elements

Primary cost elements can be generated in batch for creation, but then it seems to me it's all of them or nothing.
Is this also possible for 1 year for instance or for a limited number of cost elements, via another transaction for instance. MASS create?

First of all you have to select automatic creation of cost elements for your chart of account in OB13.
Next in OKB2, you have to specify the cost element category for the range or single cost elemets.
Next create batch input session in OKB3, here you can give from and to valid date.
You have to execute the created batch input session in SM35.

Issue in creation of data from extended segment in background mode

Dear all,
I am facing an issue in creation of data in receiving system using IDOC for an xtended matmas segment(Extended for classification view in user exit).The issue is that the idoc is received successfully in r3eceiving system but not created successfuly in data base .(Though it is shown green/successful).When i execute this from we19 the data is created successfuly in data base.I will be thankful if you can guide me resolve issue.

you can use CALL TRANSFORMATION id, which will create a exact "print" of the ABAP data into the XML.
If you need to change the structure of XML, you can alter your ABAP structure to match the requirements.
Of course you can create your own XSLT but that is not that easy to describe and nobody will do that for you around here. If you would like to start with XSLT, you´d better start the search.
