Loading a most stubborn application at startup

Hi all,
I received quite a bit of help on irc, however I have nonetheless been unsuccessful in making this work.  Essentially I have written some software that manages various usb devices as well as a script that runs the application and then logs the output from stdout and stderr.  Running this application from the cli after logging in works great.  Attempting to run the application during boot however does not work (it segfaults).
I have tried many things: writing a bash script and running it from rc.d (via daemons in rc.conf), attempting to run the script directly from rc.local, attempting to run the script using screen from rc.local, performing various modifications to my /etc/inittab such as using this command as described in the wiki x:5:once:/bin/su - -- PREFERRED_USER -l -c 'EXECUTE SCRIPT HERE', etc.
None of these worked.  I figured that, before I quit entirely, I might ask the community to see if anyone else had any ideas.  Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Why? That's probably the first issue to track down. Is this "software" a program that you wrote? What language?
Long running processes are normally written as daemons. Wikipedia has an overview of the usual approach at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daemon_%28 … of_daemons
Yes this is an application that I wrote in C.  I tried daemonizing it and that did not work, which I am guessing somehow relates to the fact that it doesnt like being run as a background prcoess.  Beyond using libusb, the only other "libraries" used are those provided standard with C (i.e. string.h, stdio.h, stdlib.h).  Also, when I did daemonize it, if I called /etc/rc.d/app start it would work just fine, just not during boot, however.  I will do some reading though, thanks!
I agree with lives2evil,
This will get a lot more visibility from the coders over at Programming.  Moving....
I would wager real money you are using dereferencing  null pointer some place.  Maybe some function that fails because the USB in question is not yet set in time for your script?  Set up some logging and pour a bunch of telemetry out to the debug log to see what is happening.
You might want to put the source up on pastebin and provide a link.
I doubt it is a null pointer (I do quite a bit of error checking for this).  My guess, though, is that you are right about the USB.  There must be something that libusb needs -- an environment variable or something.
If I try putting in a long delay (30+ seconds) in the python (or bash) script that runs my application, although it pauses successfully, the application called still fails.  Furthermore, if I immediately log in and run the script manually, everything works fine.  This would lead me to believe that there is perhaps a problem detaching the kernel USB driver? Im not sure what else could be different before and after logging in.
Thanks for the help!

  • Message bean does not start automatically during application server startup

I have a message bean that does not start up during application server startup. I am able to successfully start the application manually using the visual admin tool.I searched the logs and found the following error. The error references the "QueueConnectionFactory" is not deployed or is not started. I have check and the "QueueConnectiopnFactory" is deployed. Is this a problem with the application trying to start before the "QueueConnectionFactory"? Is thier a way to define a dependency on my application not to start until the "QueueConnectionFactory" has been started, if so can how would I define this dependency. Please provide and example.
    Thanks,
    Bill

I though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

  • Pre-load the Cache during Application-Start Up

Our requirement is to pre-load the cache during the application start-up most probably during Authentication/Authorization Service is invoked.
We plan to load the data for other services from database into Coherence cache so that when user access that particular service he ends up hitting the Cache instead of database.
Any pointers/suggestions on how to pre-load the cache during application start-up would be greatly appreciated. We are using Spring, Hibernate, Weblogic Web Services
    Regards,
    Bansi

    Hi Bansi,
    I were using following approach.
First, we never use CacheFactory.getCache() in application code instead all instances of named cache were injected.
On server side, I have an CacheInitializerBean which were starting cache preloading process (in separate thread). After preloading a special marker entry were put to the cache, indicating what data in the cache are consistent.
When injecting named cache instance, we use a factory. This factory use CacheFactory.getCache() internally, but it check presence of marker object in cache an blocks until marker object will appear.
Well in practice things are little more complicated but this is basic idea.
Preload cache asynchronously and use marker to indicate completion of loading process.
    Hope this will help.
    Regards,
    Alexey

  • Most complex application

What is the most complex application that users have developed using HTMLDB? Is it available for preview (read-only) on htmldb.oracle.com?
I am having difficulty "selling" HTMLDB in our predominantly client-server/VB/.NET/ASP, etc shop. "This is a configurator, not a development environment, you cant develop really complex apps using this" "You dont even have access to the raw HTML to tweak it". "Our typical apps have loads of business logic in it, no way this toy can do it", "The (MS) tools we are currently using can do all of this stuff, why would I want to consider learning a new tool and switching", etc.
    Thanks

to be derived from zero experience or knowledge of
HTML DB.Right, these were the comments I received after a 1-hour demo of HTMLDB to a group of MS-based developers who had never seen HTMLDB before.
I do not understand the comparison to a configurator,
that one is confusing. HTMLDB is a "configurator". You guys call it a "declarative programming environment". If anyone has seen Siebel Tools, that is also a configurator. In other words, a tool/environment which generates code for you and provides hooks to override/customize the generated code. The code in this case is HTML.
Their thought was that any point-n-click, wizard-based tool is for sissies. "Real men" use Visual Studio or the other MS offerings. HTMLDB was compared to MS Front Page or even MS Access to build simple data-manipulation forms.
I guess I would ask what is the definition of a "really > complex app"?An app with a lot of complex business logic, complex navigation, validations, high degree of client interaction (Javascript/DHTML with the browser paradigm), etc.
I also like the conclusion of "the MS tools...can do
all of this stuff". Do what? Write all of your
business logic for you automagically? Hardly. TheBy "all this stuff", they meant the application development environment that HTMLDB provides, the widgets, the branching, the validations, etc. That is not exactly ground-breaking, a number of development environments out there offer similar things.
Needless to say, I didnt agree. IMHO, HTMLDB is not a revolution, its a natural evolution for Oracle as a database company to provide tools to build apps using that data. But I can see how it does not offer anything so compelling as to persuade a 10-year MSCE veteran to consider switching
    Thanks

  • Why can't I get Images or Pictures to load on most websites?

I've had this laptop for almost a year and have never been able to get the browser to work properly. I am currently using Firefox. When I go in certain websites, yahoo, Myspace, Facebook etc. images will not load. Certain applications will not load either. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox. I have done the same with Safari. I am getting the same issues with either browser. It just seems like pages take forever to load and most of the time my pages will only partially load. What is causing this? I am new to Mac...... do I need to install additional software to view images?

I have tried this, but will attempt it again and see what happens.
    Thanks

  • "Open most recent song on startup" Hotkey bypass?

    Hello everyone,
I'm curious if there is a hot key bypass of Logics "open most recent song on startup" preference, similar to holding down shift on starting up the computer will not automatically log you into a user. Is there one?

    I don't think so.
What I do is have Logic set that if I run it, by default it opens the most recent song. I then have some alises set up that load Logic with a few predefined autoloads - so in Launchbar (I run everything from launchbar), I type "lp" to run Logic loading the most recent song, "lpa" to load Logic with my autoload, and I can set up whatever else I need.
At least it lets me choose what to start Logic with...

  • I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect"

I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect", which is Windows lingo for "missing package dependencies".  All the computers at my company with 2010 loaded seem to do OK.  When I do a Dependencies Walk I get missing Visual C debug dll's missing plus IEshims and wer which both have a whole tree of dependencies missing on my machine.  The Windows install is the same "Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3" on my PC and the working PC's. So I'm thinking I have to uninstall 2011 and go back to 2010.  Is this correct?  Those VC debug dll's were installed on the machines with 2010 in them but were not installed in mine.
I've heard the advice to recompile the dll with debug turned off but I don't have access to the source code.
    Thanks in advance.

    u87 wrote:
Thanks for the reply.  This at least tells me that going back to LV2010 is not likely to solve the problem.  The missing dll's are:
    MFC90D.dll
    MSVCR90D.dll
    IESHMS.dll
    WER.dll
And, once again, IESHMS and WER have other dependencies.  So perhaps i need to install the Visual C++ development environment.
IESHIMS.dll is an Internet Explorer DLL that gets usually delay loaded by shdocvw.dll. As delay load it can not cause DLL load errors but only runtime errors. Maybe your DLL has it as direct dependency but that is unlikely since it does not have a documented interface.
WER.dll is Windows error reporting for Vista/Win7.
MFC90D.dll is the Microsoft Foundation classes and MSVCR90D.dll is the MS C runtime library, both as debug variant.
So all the DLLs you mention are actually MS DLLs! You haven't identified the DLL that you try to access in LabVIEW that causes these error messages. IESHIMS and WER are usually delay loaded by any component that needs it and should not likely be used by non MS code.
What is the DLL you try to load into LabVIEW and by whom? Get the provider of that DLL to provide you a non Debug build of the DLL. Installing Visual C on all the machines just to make the DLL load is not a solution, besides that it is likely not legal since I doubt you have that many licenses.

  • Infopackage-Load Many Files from Application Server and later Archive/Move

    Hi All..
I have a doubt,   I have a requirement of take many files to load into BI 7.0..  I used the infopackage before with option:
Load Binary File From Application server
I load information successfully... only with one file ...but If I can load many files (with different names) like the next list.. I think it's not a good idea modify the file name (path) on infopackage each time).. :
*All of this files will be on one server that itu2019s map into AL11.. Like
    Infopfw
    BW_LOAD_20090120.txt
    BW_LOAD_20090125.txt
    BW_LOAD_OTHER_1.txt
    u2026.
    Etc..
This directory it's not in BW server.. It's other server..but I can load form this location (one file by one)
Could you help me with this questions:
    -     How can I Use an infopackage with routine that take all the files..one by oneu2026 in order of creation dateu2026and load into Target? Is it possible?.. I have some knowledge of ABAP.. but I don´t know exactly how I can say to system this logicu2026
    -     In addition is it possible move this files to other locationu2026 like into Infopfwarchive u2026 just to have an history of files loaded.
I saw that in infopackage you have an option to create a routine.. in ABAP codeu2026 Iu2019m a little bit confused because I donu2019t  know how I can specify all the path..
    I try with:
    Infopfw
    InfopfwFile.csv
    Infopfw
This is the abap code that automatically you see and you need to modifyu2026
Create a routine for file name
This routine will be called by the adapter,
    when the infopackage is executed.
              p_filename =
              p_subrc = 0.
Thank you for your ideas or recommendations.
    Al

Hi Reddy, thank you for your answer
I have some doubuts.. when you explain me the option:
All the above files are appending dates at the end of the file....
You can load the files through infopackage by using Routines and pick the files based on date at the end of the file..***
I need to ask you if you think that when you know the date of the file and the infopackage pick each file... thi can work for many files??... or how it's possible control this process?
About this option, I want to ask you If when you menction Unix code... where it's programed this code?.. in the routine of BW Infopackage??
    ****Or
Create two folders in your BW in Application server level, in AL11 (ask Basis team)
I call it is F1 and F2 folders.
First dump the files into F1 I assume that the file name in F1 is "BW_LOAD_20090120.txt", using Unix code you rename the file and then keep in the same foleder F1 or move to F2.
Then create InfoPackage and fix the file name (i.e. you renamed), so you don't need to change everyday your file name at infopackage level.Because in AL11 everyday the file are overwrite.
To I get BW_LOAD_20090120.txt file in F1, then I renamed to BW_LOAD.txt and loaded into BW, then tomorrow I get BW_LOAD_20090125.txt in F1, then I renamed to BW_LOAD.txt....
so in this way it will work. You need to schedule the Ubix script in AL11.
This is the way how to handle the application server...I'm using the same logic.
    Thank you soo much.
    Al

    Thank you for the reply.
I had the xercers jars in jdk/jre/lib/endorsed directory.
If I remove these, the ejbql works. I do need these in there for a different reason. Is there any way I can have the xercers jars in jdk/jre/lib/endorsed directory and still the ejbql work on oc4j.
    Thanks,

How do i insert a splash screen or a loading screen and a application image for a phone app on Dreamweaver 6, 5.5 had the mobile application setting that is seemingly no longer present? and i also heard you can use animanted backgrounds on the mobile application in dreamweaver 6 but figuring out how to set the splash screen and application image like it was in 5.5 would be nice. All i can get to pull up is the web application i developed i am trying to build into a phone app on google chrome, if i could officially designate it as a phone app where i can set each splash screen and app image to where it is recognized as a phone app that would be really nice.

Duely noted, the server will still not connect, so i have left an inquery in the suggested forum.

One suggestion that I've heard is that there has been unexpectedly high demand on the server since the launch of Edge Tools and Services as part of the Creative Cloud last month. As far as I know, the only thing you can do is wait, and try again later. You could also try posting in the PhoneGap Build forum: http://community.phonegap.com/nitobi/products/nitobi_phonegap_build.

  • Multiple base load in same Hyperion Application

Need to have some clarity over the multiple base load in same Hyperion application. Just to give some background of the requirement our current HFM application captures the base level data in Indian GAAP reporting structure only just like any other incorporation would do in their statutory reporting format. Now we are looking at prospects and possible impact of capturing, at base level data, both as per Indian GAAP and IFRS formats- both being active but populated by different end users.
We would like to receive some valuable inputs as to how feasible it is to capture at base level, financials of different GAAP as part of same application substantiated by an example, if any. In other words what could be the possible challenges and adverse impact because of the the multiple base load. One such impact which I could foresee could be handling of business rules and validations for different base load in the same rule file.
Please provide your valuable inputs on the same.

    To clarify the question:
the query asks for multiple base loads - i.e Base / Lowest level data being loaded into the application (loaded thru FDM, Data Forms etc - and not Journals/Adjustments), both for Indian GAAP and IFRS, parallely
The requirement is to specifically load both Indian GAAP and IFRS as base level information - to enable both reporting journeys, in the same application.
    i.e:
    - 1 base load in Indian GAAP, with related IFRS adjustments to reach financials as per IFRS requirement
    - 1 base load in IFRS, with related Indian GAAP adjustments to reach financials as per Indian Gaap requirements
Both hierarchies - operating within the same application - but for two different set of entity hierarchies, for two different end-user groups, with different reporting timelines.
What are your inputs, from a Best Practice approach - whether to develop such structures as part of the same application or go for separate applications - from a design, development, testing and ongoing maintenance perspective

  • ITunes is a blank-slate...How do I load the most recent previous version of my library?

I "re-arranged" my files on my computer to free up space and now my iTunes is completely blank.  No apps, no music, no ringtones.  Nothing.  How do I find and load the most recent previous version of iTunes?  Since we went to the cloud I haven't actually plugged my phone in to sync it...I'm afraid it will ask me if I want to load what's on my phone into iTunes, and I just want my old iTunes back.  Any ideas?  TIA!

When you re-arranged your Files for iTunes, in your C:\Users\Your Username\Music\iTunes folder ->should be a iTunes library.xml, and a Itunes library.lib- if you moved those thats why your library is blank.
Simply go to File- Add folder to library-> locate your Music folder- click choose - and you library should come back

  • Let Photoshop automatically load the most recent file

I have in the task bar icons for the PostScript editor PSAlter and for Photoshop.
The workflow is always: Edit in PSAlter and interpret in Photoshop.
Clicking in the task bar on the Photoshop icon should open Photoshop, load
the most recent file (which is meanwhile modified), confirm last settings by OK
    and start the execution.
Is it possible to automate this sequence – by just one click on the icon?
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

I doubt that would work out well.
One could possibly link a Script to Photoshop being "brought to the foreground" with Script Events Manager but that might not always be the intended process when switching to Photoshop.
How exactly is the "most recent file" identifiable?
Do you change the settings often or could they stay fixed?
Maybe you should also ask over at
    Photoshop Scripting
