Loading external text, transition effects

does anyone know how the text effect seen on
addition.com (under
the details section) is made? Also, can it be made by loading an
external text file? if anyone can help or point me in the right
direction of a tutorial, it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks-

well, I hadn't seen the text under the details section, I
hadn't even selected one of the menu items. So after doing so i
think I have an answer for you, and did test the theory. If you
adjust the 'leading' property of a the setTextField() function
using a variable that is redefined within a loop, you can change
the width of the line spacing. On the first frame used the code,
var leading_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
leading_fmt.leading = 30;
leading_txt.setTextFormat(leading_fmt);
onEnterFrame = function() {
if(leading_fmt.leading > 0) {
leading_fmt.leading -=1;
leading_txt.setTextFormat(leading_fmt);
Looks like you could adjust things however you would like
using this method. I'm not certain how they created the color
change though, I guessing that you could do that with a
translucient mask effect over the top of the field, or by using the
text as a mask rather. Just make sure that the character set you
wanting to use is embed within the dynamic field, and you should be
set.

  • Load external text in a user friendly way

    Ok this is what i want to do.
    I know how to load external text files in AS3 but I want the user to be able to do it from within my excited swf file. The obvious way to do this is to load the text file  using a string from a dynamic text field (e.g: "myfile/myTextFeild.txt") but i want it to be more user friendly.
    If you click file open in Microsoft word, for example, you get the user friendly open box where you can find the file you want to load by browsing through your hard-drive.
    Can you do something like this is AS3?
    Any feedback would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    see if you can extrapolate the path from there. FileReferenceList.browse()

  • How to load external text file into a Form?

    Hi,
    I made a menu with 1-5 in a Form and 5 external text files. I want the user who is able to view the text content of the text file when he chooses one of them from the menu. And the text file screen has a "Back" command button to let him go back.
    How can I do it and can it support other languages such as Chinese and Japanese?
    Thanks for help.

    Sorry, I made the mistake about the subject, it should be loading local file, not external file through http.
    I wrote a method but it throwed an exception when the midlet was run.
    private void loadText()
    try {
    InputStream is = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/text.txt");
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    int chr;
    while ((chr = is.read()) != -1)
    sb.append((char) chr);
    is.close();
    catch (Exception e)
    System.out.println("Error occurs while reading file");
    I put the text.txt file in the same folder with the main file (extends midlet). How can I load the text content and display it on StringItem?
    Thanks for any help.

  • CSS for Dynamically Loaded External Text

    I'm externally loading text from a .txt file. I need to format that file using CSS. I've got the CSS file set up and everything. I've tried every tutorial I can find to try and load the CSS, but nothing is working.
    Here is the script for loading the text:
    var textLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var textReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("content_files/commissions.txt");
    textLoader.load(textReq);
    textLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textLoadComplete);
    function textLoadComplete(event:Event):void
        commissionscontent.htmlText = textLoader.data;
        commissionscontent.htmlText = textLoader.data.split("\r\n").join("\n");
            if (commissionscontent.maxScrollV <= 1){
            scrollBox_mc.visible = false;
            scrollLine.visible = false;
        else {scrollBox_mc.visible = true;
              scrollLine.visible = true;}
    Can anyone help me to load the CSS for this?? I'm really new to Flash and have just been teaching myself, except for now I've hit a wall and I am so incredibly frustrated that it's not even funny.

    var css_loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var textLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var my_css:StyleSheet = new StyleSheet();
    var my_txt:TextField = new TextField();
    css_loader.load(new URLRequest("style.css"));
    css_loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onCSSComplete);
    function onCSSComplete(e:Event):void {
        my_css.parseCSS(e.target.data);
        textLoader.load(new URLRequest("commissions.txt"));
    textLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, textLoadComplete);
    function textLoadComplete(e:Event):void {
        my_txt.styleSheet=my_css;
        my_txt.htmlText=e.target.data;
        addChild(my_txt);
        my_txt.width=300;
        my_txt.autoSize=TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;

  • AS3: Loading External Text into a Master File

    I have a master file that I want to load an external text
    file into. This external text file will also have an external style
    sheet applied to it.
    In your opinion, which way is best to load the external text
    file?
    1) Generate a text field dynamically in the master file using
    the TextField class and then loading the external text in.
    2) Placing (at authoring time) a dynamic text box on the
    master file's stage and loading the text in.
    3) Placing a dynamic text box in a separate .swf file and
    then loading that external swf in to the master file, then loading
    the external text into the text box.
    Any opinions?
    Thanks...
    Brenda

    On my project im going with the third choise, dont ask why,
    cause i just do.
    only difference is that i also lad my data into this external
    swf file.
    in other words i use mainly second as well as im going with
    the third one.
    In my opinion, no idea if thats the best way, but i certanly
    know that its (for me) most confortable way.

  • External Text Marquee

    Hi,
    This is the simplest way of loading external text into a
    Dynamic Text Field:
    loadVariablesNum("YourFile.txt", 0);
    Right ...
    Could anyone please tell me what is the simplest way of
    animating it ?
    I need a marquee effect for external text loaded into a
    dynamic text field ...
    Thanks in advance
    Hassan

    OK. I don't think you need to use LoadVariablesNum - although
    I guess that should work (I don't use these anymore I always use
    LoadVars)
    If you see the trace working but nothing displaying then you
    just need to associate you variable with a dynamic text field on
    stage
    Give this a try:
    //testing only... this would normally be set up in the
    external YourFile.txt text file without the quotes (actually I just
    looked at some of the livedocs examples and they used quotes... but
    I don't usually.
    mytext="Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing

    aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco
    laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure

    //code on main timeline
    loadVariables("YourFile.txt", this);
    this.onEnterFrame = function() {

    var tmpArr = mytext.split("");
    tmpArr.push(tmpArr.shift());
    mytext= tmpArr.join("")
    trace(mytext);

    The loaded swf has a stop() an intro animation and on the last frame have.
    dispatchEvent(new Event("removeMe", true));

    your isse begins here ..
    loadSection()
    you use the same loader to not only load files but you are tyring to use it to target the movieClip you also want to play.
    The issue is loader.  The loader can only reference one load at a time.. otherwise you screw up your listeners and the ability to unload files properly.
    You should load all files in Your current system as its own variable so that while one loads you can still control a movie.
    So what type of end transitions do your files have?
    What exactly with this seems like youre getting an issue.. looking at it looks alright aside from the fact that some methods are not used at all by your class

  • Load dynamic text into Captivate form external file

    Is it possible to load dynamic text into a Captivate file from an external file like an XML using Javascript.
    I see there's a way to get it form the query scring of the URL ( http://captivatedev.com/2011/05/01/how-to-jump-to-a-specific-slide-in-a-separate-course/ ), but I have a project where I want  several pieces of text to be replaced and we want to be able to edit it externally from the Captivate file.
    Thanks!

    Hi Ned,
    What I'm doing is using a yahoo map to load addresses and
    place custom swf files as the placemarkers. The main stage has an
    instance of myMap, which is the map that yahoo sets us to display
    the ACTUAL map. They have also provided coding for placing markers
    on the map, which is what I'm using.
    I have the addresses throughout multiple xml files, which I
    am actually loading through 1 single xml file. These addresses are
    being stored in an array, then called by the AS below to place
    markers. All the markers are placed correctly, however, I am trying
    to have them actually say the address - this is where the problem
    lies.
    The marker that is being located and placed has a text field
    called load_text in it. I want that field to load the same address
    that is being used to place it (from the array addressA).
    I'm very confused because every loop through the * for (i=0;
    i<addressA.length; i++) * loop the marker is placed at the
    correct addressA
    location, but I cannot actually get the address to load into the
    load_txt field in the marker. I can even run a trace during that
    loop and it traces addressA for each address, but I can't seem
    to actually load those values into the load_txt box.
    Do you have any ideas?

  • Load the External text and css file for more frames

    hello..
           I created one Movie file. In that I load the External text and css file in first frame and display the first variable value in one text box.
    And then in 2nd frame I use another one text field and display the 2nd variable value like that I want to load the more variable in more textboxes with different frames.
         I loaded  for first variable value in first frame. But I don't know how to do next frames like that..
         Help me...

    You need to load them in the frames they are in.  You can store the loaded data in variables in frame 1, but you will need to extend that layer so that whatever is stored is avaliable in other frames.  The code to load the data into the other textfields can then be done in the frames where it is needed.
    There are other options, such as not using other frames for content or having all of them in frame 1 and making them invisible until you get to the other frames where they get turned visible.

  • Add one character at  a time from External Text file

    Hi,
    I'm using Flash 8, and I have created a standard Dynamic
    field that pulls the text from an external text file using the
    LoadVars function and it works fine.
    To get the correct effect for the design, I would like to be
    able to create the illusion that the characters are being typed out
    when the page loads as if someone has started typing and also hear
    the "Typewriter Clack" each time a character appears.
    The only place I have found an example is on the Syphon
    Filter Game website which seems to have created the illusion
    perfectly:
    http://www.syphonfilterdarkmirror-thegame.com/en_IE/
    (Check out the bottom right section)
    I could create a Movieclip and add a character each frame
    but, I would like to be able to edit the text when required via a
    text file or even ASP or PHP if neccessary.
    Any help would be grateful.
    Cheers

  • N97 Transition Effect Problem

    As you all know that the N97 user interface is not attractive due to the lack of the real transition effects, my 5800 have a nice iphone like transitions, but for the N97 the transition effect is very simple! Only some sliding menus and that’s it!! I wonder where is the screen orientation swivel effect we've seen in early N97 prototype videos? However, once I enable the transition effects on my N97 it will start to become unstable with crashes and it will affect some other programs like the photo gallery (will hang sometimes and gives low res pictures or just the whole program will go to the background while using the zoom button!) and the Web browser will start to display mid and large websites without images!!! I tried to reload the page so many times but only the text appears without any image! After trying so many times at last the page loaded successfully with all images but my happiness didn't last as I discovered that the phone turned off the transition effects automatically! When I went to the themes menu to check, it was turned on but actually it’s not working as the phone disabled it in order to load the web page! It happened to my three times since I updated my firmware last week (V 11)! I think this is because of the lack of enough RAM, I removed all the online widgets from the home screen (like facebook and accuweather) and just used contacts, programs, calendar, email, and music shortcuts which gave me additional 5 MB of free RAM and the phone felt more stable but still can’t handle the transition effects and proper Web pages display simultaneously! My 5800 handles web pages better and display all images even if the transition effects are turned on! I hope Nokia will fix these issues and gives us an option to disable the Widgets and Kinetic scrolling (Make the UI just like the 5800) in order to have more free RAM and enjoy full transition effects and proper Web Browsing with better stability just like the 5800.

    Any updates on the effects? I wrote to Nokia support, I'm in Russia, they replied.
    I have illustrated my question with the links to youtube where it is clearly visible how the UI rotates and other animation effects when opening the widgets.
    My translation of the official reply:
    "In  firmware version 11 those effects do work! Try to resent the phone to the factory settings by typing: *#7780#, standard lock code is  - 12345 or try to format the phone memory. Do your data and contacts back up using PC Suite .  enter *#7370# (formats phone memory), enter the code 12345 the phone will resent. Then restore your back up."

  • Unable to load external swf which has runtime sharing with another swf.

    Hi,
    I am getting issues on loading external swf say "importer.swf" file into another swf file say "loader.swf" for second time like
    ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable testSymbol is not defined. VerifyError: Error #1014: Class testClass could not be found.

    In the external swf "importer.swf", i am trying to import the symbol "testSymbol" from another swf file say "exporter.swf", which exports through runtime sharing option for the symbols.
    I am having some buttons in loader.swf file and on each button click i am loading different swf files into the loader.swf after unloading the previous one.
    I am able to load and unload different swf files but unable to load the importer.swf file which is sharing symbols from external swf and that too for the second time i.e., when i click the button twice.
    When trying to debug with flash debugger, all the other swf files are being unloaded before loading of another swf but the swf which is sharing symbols/classes with another swf is not getting unloaded.
    Output when i am trying to load two files example and importer files into loader.swf file on two different button clicks. On first button click example.swf is loaded. On second button click , example.swf is unloaded and importer.swf is loaded which is successful. On first button click again importer.swf is unloaded and example.swf is loaded. Code i am using
    b1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, b1Clicked);
    b2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, b2Clicked);
    var ldr:Loader;
    function b2Clicked(e:MouseEvent)
        if(ldr != null)
            ldr.unloadAndStop(true);
        ldr = new Loader();
        ldr.load(new URLRequest("importer.swf"));
        addChild(ldr);
    function b1Clicked(e:MouseEvent)
        if(ldr != null)
            ldr.unloadAndStop(true);
        ldr = new Loader();
        ldr.load(new URLRequest("example.swf"));
        addChild(ldr);
    If i try to open the swf using IE, i am not getting any issues at all. But i need to open this loader.swf in a air application. Also when i use loaderContext for the loader instance i am able to get rid of this issue but i cant use it in my application.
    So, please help me in resolving this issue.
    Thanks

    I got my answer. I had to append the photo url to the 'movie' value of the javascript embed method. Like this:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
       AC_FL_RunContent(
          'codebase', 'http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0',
          'width', '550',
          'height', '400',
          'src', 'lesson2',
          'quality', 'high',
          'pluginspage', 'http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer',
          'align', 'middle',
          'play', 'true',
          'loop', 'true',
          'scale', 'showall',
          'wmode', 'window',
          'devicefont', 'false',
          'id', 'lesson2',
          'bgcolor', '#ffffff',
          'name', 'lesson2',
          'menu', 'true',
          'allowFullScreen', 'false',
          'allowScriptAccess','always',
          'movie', 'lesson2?photo=http://www.flash-mx.com/images/image1.jpg',
          'salign', ''
          ); //end AC code
    </script>
    Thanks,
    srb.
