Local transaction in EJB CMT

I've an EJB Staless Session Bean with CMT transaction; is it possible start, inside a global transaction, a local transaction? I need this because I've to send always a message in a queue, even when a RunTimeException occured in my ejb, so I can't run my sender class (a simple appender for log4j) in a global transaction.
My environment is IBM WebSphere and IBM MQ Series.
If is not possible, any suggestions or idea to accomplish my need?
Thanks in advance.
Rob

yes, you can do this. basically, what you need to do is create a separate method with a REQUIRES_NEW transaction annotation. the trick, however, is that you can't just call this method normally. what you need to do is get a handle to the public interface of the local ejb and invoke this second method through that handle. i believe you can use SessionContext.getBusinessObject to get this handle (although, this didn't work on the version of jboss i used at my last job, we had to use local jndi lookups).

  • EJB CMT + Cohererence Transaction

    Hi,
    I am trying to setup coherence in our application. Our app has MDB/EJB(weblogic 8.1) and all transactions are container managed. XA driver is used for db.
    I am looking for - if the transaction rolls back then cache updates all gets rolled back; and a commit on the db is a commit in the cache. Cache & DB should always be in sync with each-other. Is it possible to have the setup like this.
    Thanks,
    - Anand

    Hi,
    Managed to set some prilim-setup. But encountered a problem.
    I am using EJB CMT for our application - The way I am setting the Cache in the EJB is something like below -
    ==================
    Context cacheCtx = new InitialContext();
    CacheAdapter adapter = new CacheAdapter(cacheCtx, "tangosol.coherenceTx",
    CacheAdapter.CONCUR_OPTIMISTIC, CacheAdapter.TRANSACTION_GET_COMMITTED, 0);
    NamedCache map = adapter.getDistributedCache("VirtualCache", getClass().getClassLoader());
    ==================
    I do a ejbCtx.setRollbackOnly() to rollback the transaction - but on doing this. I am getting the below warning in the Weblogic. Do I have to explicitly call the setRollback from the CacheFactory? Or since it is in the transaction it is understood?
    ==================
    2006-03-27 14:40:26.097 Tangosol Coherence 3.1/339 <Warning> (thread=ExecuteThread: '12' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default', member=1): CoherenceRA: LocalTransaction is not completed: Component: com.tangosol.coherence.ra.component.connector.resourceAdapter.cciAdapter.CacheAdapter$ManagedConnection$LocalTransaction(LocalTransaction)@16387060
    ==================
    Can you tell me what could be the problem? Looks like the cache is'nt updated though. I did test the cache thru' an independent program and it is not updated with the above one though.
    Thanks,

  • "Datasource" or "Tx Datasource" for Local Transactions

    I am wondering whether I should use a "Normal DataSource" or "Transactional DataSource"
    Object in my EJB deployment.
    According to the docs, Tx Datasources are needed only for distributed transactions.
    For local transactions Datasource is recommended. I need only local transactions
    and
    initially used a non-transactional datasource.
    The problem I came across is that WL6.1 doesn't set the ISOLATION LEVEL as specified
    in the deployment descriptors when a normal Datasource object is used.
    When I switch to Tx Datasource - isolation is set properly.
    Has anyone encountered this and is it a bug or am I not understanding the
    documentation correctly.
    Thanks, Samuel Kounev

    and combine LO DS with AP/AR and GL through infoset or mutiprovider...
    You need to look for these KPIs in different datasources...and then link them.

  • Unable to invoke local interfaces in EJB 2, SJSAS 9 environment

    Hi,
    I am unable to get SJSAS to register local interfaces for an BMP entity bean. I am new to entity beans, and am trying out a simple case using EJB 2.0 deployed on SJSAS 9. I even had tried setting source level to 1.4, but no luck.
    EJB looks ok, as it was verified successfully by netbeans 5. But, I could not find the bean registerd when I verified it through the JNDI Brownsing utiltiy in SJSAS.

    Of course you could also keep the code the same, but change the value of the ejb-ref-name

    All that matters is that the value relative to java:comp/env and what's in the ejb-ref-name are a match.

    I am currently working with IBM on a similar problem with WAS 5.1 and SQL Server 2000. The SQLException has a nested exception that can be retrieved using the getNextException() method. This will give you some more information as to what is causing the problem. Ours seems to be triggered by a dropped connection at the SQL end. normally WAS will recover from that gracefully, but in our situation it is not.

  • How to start and finish a transaction using EJB 3.0 in JDeveloper

    Hello everybody!
    Does anybody can explain how to start and finish a transaction using EJB 3.0. I need to start a transaction insert some information in some tables and if everything was fine commit the information.
    I put the annotation @TransactionManagement(TransactionManagementType.BEAN) in my session bean and @Resource SessionContext ejbContext; but I don't what anything else I have to do.
    Any help will be appreciate.

    I tryied to use in the client the statement EntityTransaction transaction = myBean.getTransact(); but I receive the EJBException: Cannot use resource level transactions with a container managed EntityManager
    I just need to start a transaction something like this: transaction.begin(); and finish the transaction, something like this: transaction.commit();
    Does anybody can help?

  • Local transaction support when BPEL invokes JCA adapter

    My concern is to support local transactions. Here are some code snippets describing what I've done so far.
    Declare the transaction support at deployment time (ra.xml)

    Hi Vlad, thank you again for your immediate response.
    With regards to your first comment. I already have been using logs, so I confirm that neither javax.resource.spi.LocalTransaction#begin() nor javax.resource.spi.LocalTransaction#commit()
    is called in the 2nd run.
    I think it might be helpful for our discussion if I give you the call trace for a successful (the first one) run.
    After I deploy my custom JCA Resource Adapter, I create a javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory through Oracle EM web application and the following methods are called:
    -- MyManagedConnectionFactory()
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnectionFactory interface)
    -- javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnectionFactory#createManagedConnection(javax.security.auth.Subject, javax.resource.spi.ConnectionRequestInfo)
    -- MyManagedConnection()
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnection interface)
    -- javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnection#addConnectionEventListener(javax.resource.spi.ConnectionEventListener)
    -- javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnection#getLocalTransaction()
    -- MySpiLocalTransaction(MyManagedConnection)
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.spi.LocalTransaction interface)
    -- javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnectionFactory#createConnectionFactory(javax.resource.spi.ConnectionManager)
    -- MyConnectionFactory(javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnectionFactory, javax.resource.spi.ConnectionManager)
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory interface)BPEL process consists of multiple invoke activities to my (custom) JCA Resource Adapter which connects to an EIS. Client tester invokes BPEL process, and execution starts.
    Here is the method call trace for the last invoke (after which, commit is executed). The logs for all the rest invocations are identical:
    -- javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory#getConnection()
    -- javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnection#getConnection(javax.security.auth.Subject, javax.resource.spi.ConnectionRequestInfo)
    -- MyConnection(MyManagedConnection)
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.cci.Connection interface)
    -- javax.resource.cci.Connection#close()
    (I don't understand why close() is called here, any idea ?)
    -- javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory#getConnection()
    -- javax.resource.spi.ManagedConnection#getConnection(javax.security.auth.Subject, javax.resource.spi.ConnectionRequestInfo)
    -- MyConnection(MyManagedConnection)
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.cci.Connection interface)
    -- javax.resource.cci.Connection#createInteraction()
    -- MyInteraction(javax.resource.cci.Connection)
    (Constructor of the implementer class of the javax.resource.cci.Interaction interface)
    -- javax.resource.cci.Interaction#execute(javax.resource.cci.InteractionSpec, javax.resource.cci.Record, javax.resource.cci.Record)
    -- javax.resource.spi.LocalTransaction#commit()I would expect that after the last commit() - meaning that BPEL process is done, and its state is "Completed" - Weblogic server would call the following:
    javax.resource.cci.Connection#close()However it doesn't. Do I miss something ?

    hi,
    I am trying to do transaction using ejb.My bean has two method.The transaction mode of the bean is TX_REQUIRED and is stateful.I am using the jts driver and this is the code i have written.
    public void addemp()throws RemoteException

    adddept();
    usertran.commit();
    con.close();

    It seems like I need to inform my colleages
    that this 200,000-update process is a business logic
    problem.This might help a great bit.
    >
    But what if this is a real life needed process ? We
    already have a good team of architects and
    developers.This statement is questionable. There is a fundamental problem with "one transaction that has more than 200,000 update processes".
    Aside, which also indicates the skill level of this "good team of architects and developers", if it really exists.
    Your group should rethink what is considered a transaction and really analyze the reasons why so many updates need to occur as one batch.
    It would be fantastical if this system could maintain 200,000 live Entity EJB at any one point in time. Either way, you need to rethink, from business terms, what a transaction should be.
    This sounds like a data bulk upload process. There may be no business analysts involved to guide you. You should refer to the "good team" for their advice in addition to this forum. They should be able to provide you with good direction.

  • Default Transaction for EJB

    Hi All,
    Could you please let me know what is the default transactions for EJB 2.0?
    In case of business methods of stateless session beans.

    I believe the default propagation is REQUIRED and the default isolation level for most databases is READ COMMITTED. Or were you looking for something else?

  • When to use Global transaction and Local Transaction only

    Hi All,
    Could you please help with this question thats been troubling me from quite long time.
    When to create Global & local Transactions and Local Transaction Only while creating Data source on oracle Application Server 10 G.
    Do I get any advantages by using Global & local Transactions for creating Data Source
    Thanks In Advance.
    Regards,
    Ajay Kumar .Akula

    What is the difference between a single-process shared variable and a local variable?
    A single process shared variable is more like a global variable, because it can be accessed from any VI in your hierarchy. Local variables are strictly local to the single VI where they reside.
    Shared variables are a relatively new feature, while local and global variables are ancient. As such, shared variables are in many ways more modern and integrate better into state-of-the-art coding guidelines.
    Shared variables contain error terminals so you can enforce execution order. local variables have no such thing.
    A shared variable can stand on its own, while a local variable is always tied to a front panel object.
    You need a project for shared varaibles.
    You can easily turn a single process shared variable into a network shared variable later in the development, without the need to rewrite any code.

  • Omitting container-transaction in ejb-jar.xml

    Hi,
    This may be an easy answer (although I'm struggling to find onejust now) but if you don't define a <container-transaction> element to the ejb-jar.xml for your EJBs, what transaction attribute is used when using Container Managed Persistence? Are transactions used at all it this scenario or does it default to auto committing after every statement?
    Also, what part does the application server vendor play in this - if any?
    Thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

    I'm still struggling to get a conclusive answer to this issue. Read a few books and the EJB spec itself but nothing seems to give an answer on this issue. This makes me think that it is up to the container if it is not defined.
    Also did some tests on Oracle 9ias and it seems that transactions aren't used when transaction config is not defined for CMT beans as it would only rollback on an error when it was defined. Still need to do some more tests.
    Again, if anyone is able to help shed some light on this then it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
