Local User State Location

I have recently began testing an in-place Workstation reimage. I have set my task sequence to capture user state with the OSDStateStorePath set to %SystemDrive%\UserState. I also have applied updates to my OS Image.
When deploying my reimage, the updates failed. This caused the User State to not be Restored. Is there any possible way to get that User State back now that the machine has been reimaged? I have searched the c:\ for UserState but it is not there.

You should set OSDStateStorePath to _SMSTSUserStatePath
instead. That folder will be kept during applying the image.
Note: You will also see that this variable is used by default when creating a standard install task sequence and select to store the data local by using links.

  • Copy Local User Data from Multiple Computers to a File Server

    Just recently acquired a new company with 20 standalone computers (desktops and laptops, Windows 7 and 8.1), that are part of a WORKGROUP, with no local server at all. This site will be getting a network upgrade, and will soon have a VPN tunnel to the Main
    Office (but not until cutover weekend, a month and a half in the future).  Now, all these computers have local user accounts, and some are shared computers, so copying data to a centralized location is going to be bothersome (especially if people keep
    modifying/creating data everyday).  Not sure what to do...
    Would anyone advise on what to do in this case?   I'd like to minimize downtime for these users while migrating them to our domain.

    Hello Fernando Chanco,
    I can recommend you to use the User Migration State Tool as this provides a highly customizable user-profile migration experience for IT professionals.
    User State Migration Tool (USMT) Technical Reference
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825256.aspx
    USMT Requirements

    Also this is an interesting document that points to this same tool (USMT) to accomplish something similar to your goal.
    How to migrate from Workgroup network model to Domain based model?
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/555542/en-us
    Q:
    How to migrate from Workgroup network model to Domain based model?
    A:
    Network base Workgroup support a few hosts without central management.
    After you company/network grow, you will have to start to migrate to network base on Domain model.
    The followings instructions will give you a guidelines to achieve this migration in the short and safe way. The guidelines assume that you migrate single place and serve SMB (Small Medium Business) network...
    Hope this info helps to reach your goal. :D

  • How to Move Local Users to Network Domain Users

    Before you follow these instructions...... I'm a rank amateur so I'd check to see if the smart kids have corrected my errors or improved on the method in the replies below
    The reason for the post is I have good and established local user accounts on all the computers and moving them to domain controlled accounts is the one topic I could not find a script to follow that worked for my low level of knowledge of OS X.
    Let me first explain my setup and needs. I'm replacing a Windows Home Server (WHS) with the Mac Mini Server. My goal was to have the Mac Mini as the server holding all our photos, data, etc. and running a user account to run the family iTunes account to feed the Apple TV and be the backup / sync point for a family sized set of iPod Touches, iPads and iPhones. I want to be able to log into each mac and have the same information setting, links, etc........ basically walk around the house, find any mac shaped device not used by someone else, log in and carry on where I was before -  with the MacBook Air having a portable account so it can come travelling with us.
    The key hardware is...
    Mac Mini Server running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
    Apple TV
    2 x iMac Running Lion 10.7.1 [upgraded from 10.6.8]
    MacBook Air running Lion 10.7.1 [upgraded from 10.6.8]
    Normal stuff like wifi, hubs and a router doing the DHCP (and for me reserving IP addresses based on the 'MAC Address' to save me having to manually configure all the IP addresses)
    Key Resources I used as I learnt how to do this; to level set you all, I'm a relative newcomer to OS X having had a Windows life with Linux for fun, so i'm not a mac or IT specialist but like to play around.
    Apple's podcast series 'Apple Quick Tour of Leopard Server'  - this is great, it informed me and kept me motivated through all the bah moments, all 33 episodes and it's in the iTunes store as a podcast.
    The book 'Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server For Dummies' - I bought this about half way through the whole process and wish i'd bought it earlier, my reccomendation would be get the Kindle version so you can search it for advice.
    The excellent information on DNS from Hoffman Labs http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436
    The video 'Setting up a primary DNS zone.....' from Lynda.com on youtube  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOEgQY9oFK4
    The Series of PDF document on Snow Leopard Server from Apple http://support.apple.com/manuals#mac%20os%20x%20server%20v10.6
    And finally this excellent post from Joe Ferrante which was the core of what I used http://joeferrante.net/how-to-migrate-local-user-account-to-network-user-account -with-networked-home-folder-on-snow-leopard-server/
    Right off we go....
    Setting up the Server [this took me 6 goes to get it right as I learnt a little each time].
    So i'm not going to go through this step by step because it in the 'dummies' book and the videos from Apple above and those will be better than anything I write but here's my details/advice.
    I split the primary disc into 2 partitions using disk utility so I could reformat the operating system without moving my data.
    100GB for the OS X system
    400GB for user data
    Install OS X from the DVD, press the buttons based on your desires but stop at the bit about naming you computer titled Network Names
    READ UP ON DNS  - this one of the reason I had so many goes as it was the 1st time i've set up a server like this using DNS and guessing didn't get me there.
    If you don't have one buy a domain name for your network it make it much easier in the long run & is $10 well spent
    The name needs to be [the computer name].[your domain name].[com or net or org, etc]
    So if you want you computer to be called fred and you bought or have the domain location.com enter fred.location.com in the primary DNS name box
    This shoud automatically put fred in the computer name box.
    Follow along with the set up guide to finish
    After you have finished the set up test the DNS with NSLOOKUP in a terminal window
    nslookup fred.location.com    in my example and you should get the IP
    Add your servers IP address to the list of DNS servers in network preferences on the client mac.
    Bind [link] the client computers to the server in Accounts on the client computer - I used the 'dummies' book for this but there's lots of data on the web.
    Clean up the user profile on the client to reduce the size of the Home folder as much as possible or the data transfer is loooooooonnnnng - i also connect the iMac on a cable rather than wifi to speed it up.
    Read Joe's post http://joeferrante.net/how-to-migrate-local-user-account-to-network-user-account -with-networked-home-folder-on-snow-leopard-server/ and follow along.useful info I learnt somewhere - to get the paths to the folders correct in the terminal window go to the folder in Finder and then drag it to the terminal window and let go - this will put the correct link in the instruction.
    You now need to be on a terminal window on your server, with a finder window open and logged into the client as the user you are moving
    THE CLIENT COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE LOGGED OUT or logged in as a different user than the one you're trying to move.
    so when you're at the right point - type sudo cp -R then hit the space bar, drag the existing user folder onto the finder window, add the /* and hit space then find the users folder on the server and drag that onto the terminal window to complete the instruction.
    Hit enter and wait a while assuming it starts ok - i used network traffic on the Activity Monitor utility to check if it was working.
    If you got this far and it all worked - login to the profle you moved on any computer linked to the server or the server but not the original client computer to see if it worked and all your setting and data are intact and then delete the profile off the original client if it was ok [archiving the home directory took ages for me].
    As you can probably guess most of this was good learning for me and it worked successfully for me in the end, moving all my history, saved password, etc, etc without any problems.
    Hope this helps other in the same situation & feel free to expand or correct this if I've missed anything.
    Ed

    Hi,
    I was unable to access the Joe Ferrante information (it appears to now requrie a password and was not able to determine how a username and password were assigned)  Would you happen to have a copy of the post that you refer to above?
    I am still at the early stages of this process but am hoping that the steps you refer to are going to get me where I want to be.  Your stated end goal is where I hope to get to.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • R2 XP to Windows 7 Migrations - User State Data Restore Fails

    The client I am at is trying to migrate about 800 XP clients to Windows 7 before the April deadline.  They have ConfigMgr R2 and are aware of the limitations with ADK 8.1 for Windows XP.  We are following the following ConfigMgr Blog:
    https://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/09/12/how-to-migrate-user-data-from-win-xp-to-win-8-1-with-system-center-2012-r2-configmgr.aspx
    We have created the separate TS to capture the User state on the XP box.  That works find.  We have created the TS to deploy Windows 7 and also restore the users state.  That is where the issues are.  The image deploys fine however the
    User data is never restored.   When we do a 7 to 7 Migration everything works great.
    Below is an example of the loadstatescan.log file from another client but it is exactly what we are seeing here as well:
    2009-11-26 14:00:35, Error
     [0x000000] The account XXXXXXX\admin is chosen for migration, but the target does not have account XXXXXX\admin. See documentation on /lac, /lae, /ui, /ue and /uel options.
    2009-11-26 14:00:35, Info                  [0x000000] Failed.[gle=0x00000006]
    2009-11-26 14:00:35, Info                  [0x000000]   Unable to create a
    local account because /lac was not specified[gle=0x00000006]
    On both TS we have uncheck the box that say to copy and restore local accounts.  However, as you can see in the error above the loadstate is trying to restore the local Admin account.  Is there a work around?  I have seen other post about
    this but no one has either updated them with their fix or there hasn't been a fix?

    So I am not sure if this is the "technical fix" for my problem. Something I don't think should fix it but at least it fixes it for now. On the task that runs the capture user data the default settings is to capture all user data unless you specify other
    custom settings.  We have been using gather all data. However, in the restore user data step there is actually a check box to allow local accounts to be restored.  Once we check that box our XP to Windows migrations run without an issue.
    First, why isn't there a check in the user capture to disable local accounts if there is a check box for it in the restore user data? Anyway, that is our fix for now.  It is working but still a little confused.

  • It is Possible to Migrate Local User Profile to Roaming Profile Using USMT?

    Dear All,
    1st, I'm following guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142682 to copy user profiles to another user, but the problem is the 'Copy to' button is not active (grey). I try
    using 3rd party tools, still no change.
    2nd, I try to transfer local profile on the same machine and different user using Windows Easy Transfer, it's work and all of data has been restore to a new user. But not all App Settings is restored, when I open Outlook 2010 and Windows
    Live Mail, there's need to enter password again. That is not problem for me.
    3rd, After migrate/transfer (2nd step) I want to migrate from local profile to roaming profile, but user profile setting on local profile is not copied to roaming profile, such as Email setting need to create new account but all data is
    not problem, because I have already configure on ADUC and GPMC.
    My question is:
    1. How to copy or move all Application settings on AppData Local folder to roaming profile?
    2. How about USMT, it is possible to migrate user profile settings from local to roaming? if is the best tools, how to do this?
    Please, advice...
    Thanks,
    Hendra

    First, I dont understand why you're using the copy profile method. I'll make the assumption that you have a domain user account that you you need it's files and settings moving to another machine.
    In that scenario then there's a simple guide here:
    Migrate User Accounts
    For Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders; you can follow the
    Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) Guide for Windows User State Virtualization (USV).
    It sounds like a mouthfull but it actually makes the whole process easy. There's also a video
    here.

  • HT5071 when a user buys my ibook in iTunes store, how can I find out more about the user, state purchased in, email it downloaded to, etc ?

    when a purchaser reads my email message in mailchimp, I am provided with the user details, email address used, state located in, etc.....why can't I get the same information from Apple iTunes when a purchaser downloads a paid copy of my iBook from the Itunes bookstore.?????  in order to complete the download of a purchased iBook, that information is gathered by Apple, but is not provided to the iBook author.....any solutions out there...

    All Apple will give you are sales counts and other such general information. Personal information about individual purchases will not be available to you.

  • The action (restore User State) has been skipped because the condition is evaluated to be false.

    Hello,
    At one time my OSD Task Sequence captured network settings and User state (documents, settings, etc) from a refreshed system (same pc), but now it doesn't.  In Task sequence I am getting "The action (restore User State) has been skipped because
    the condition is evaluated to be false."

  • How to update users' Trusted Locations settings on open?

    I am looking for a function that will trigger on opening of Access 2010 that will automatically update users' Trusted Locations to include the local network.  Only authenticated users have access to the drive, so there should be no security
    issues in making it a trusted location for anyone who opens the application.
    It would be too time consuming to explain to 100+ how to add the network to their trusted locations, so I am looking for something to bypass this.

    I put the function into the AutoExec macro, but when the database is not in a trusted location yet, I get a macro error number 2001.  After pressing Stop All Macros, then pressing Enable All Content, the function runs and properly adds the location.
    Obviously the error occurs because the location is not trusted yet, so how do I get it to trust a macro beforehand?

    Can I retain the user files/data for a specific time as a copy after capturing user states then restoring them? If so what's the procedure and location of the files?

    If you are using a SMP, yes, this is built-in functionality. The files are located in the location(s) specified on your SMP configuration. You'll also need the computer association that created them because it contains the encryption key.

  • MapView setRegion after detecting user's location

    Hi,
    I'm creating a universal application.
    The app is using MapView, with the user's location, and annotations.
    I'm using this after puting down the annotations:
    - (void)setMapViewToFitEveryAnnotation {
        NSLog(@"The annotations: %d",[_mapView.annotations count]);
        if ([_mapView.annotations count] == 0) return;
        CLLocationCoordinate2D topLeftCoord;
        topLeftCoord.latitude = -90;
        topLeftCoord.longitude = 180;
        CLLocationCoordinate2D bottomRightCoord;
        bottomRightCoord.latitude = 90;
        bottomRightCoord.longitude = -180;
        for(Annotation *annotation in _mapView.annotations) {
            topLeftCoord.longitude = fmin(topLeftCoord.longitude, annotation.coordinate.longitude);
            topLeftCoord.latitude = fmax(topLeftCoord.latitude, annotation.coordinate.latitude);
            bottomRightCoord.longitude = fmax(bottomRightCoord.longitude, annotation.coordinate.longitude);
            bottomRightCoord.latitude = fmin(bottomRightCoord.latitude, annotation.coordinate.latitude);
        MKCoordinateRegion region;
        region.center.latitude = topLeftCoord.latitude - (topLeftCoord.latitude - bottomRightCoord.latitude) * 0.5;
        region.center.longitude = topLeftCoord.longitude + (bottomRightCoord.longitude - topLeftCoord.longitude) * 0.5;
        region.span.latitudeDelta = fabs(topLeftCoord.latitude - bottomRightCoord.latitude) * 1.1;
        // Add a little extra space on the sides
        region.span.longitudeDelta = fabs(bottomRightCoord.longitude - topLeftCoord.longitude) * 1.1;
        // Add a little extra space on the sides
        region = [_mapView regionThatFits:region];
        [_mapView setRegion:region animated:YES];
    It is working, no problem with this code.
    But only on iPad, at the splitViewController.
    On iPhone, the probelm is, that (as you see in the code), I NSLog the annotations number, and if I display 3 annotations, the number will be 3, instead of 4, including the user's location.
    After the blue spot appeared, and I tap on the IBAction, which is calling the same method, it is working.
    My question:
    Is there any way, to get the user's annotation in advance, and than call this method?
    Thanks,

    Remember that in principle an app may be launched by any other app. I don't know how much of this is currently supported in the official SDK, but any app can use openURL: to launch Mail, or YouTube, or Safari etc. Would you consider these 'normal' launches or 'relaunches'?
    You should probably design your app so that it does not matter who launches it. The user could decide at any moment to press the Home button to quickly check their email, and would then expect to find your app in exactly the same state they left it: no different from the situation where your app would be terminated by an incoming call.

  • "How are local and state taxes setup/updated when employee's address change

    Hi All
    I wanted to know "How are local and state taxes setup/updated when employee's address changes . - How is it done in SAP? -
    Thanks in Advance

    This defeats the purpose of trying to centralize SAP-related web resources on the SAP server. Typically IIS/Apache or other non-SAP servers are under the control of IT and not the SAP BASIS group.
    We simply would like to have a centralized location to store static web files so that they are not overwritten during Portal support pack applications.

  • User State Restore Fails with Error 0x8007000E

    I am having some trouble restoring user states with usmt.  I am running a side by side migration, for which I have already added the computer association prior to running the capture.  The task sequence I am using is a very simple and only has
    the following steps:  Request State Store, Restore User State, and Release state store.
    I am aware that the error code is linked to task sequence environment running out of space, and that it may have something to do with software updates. However, we are not currently deploying any software updates from SCCM.  We do have an upstream WSUS
    server that is supplying updates directly to clients. Would this still be an issue?  I find it hard to believe that an OS deployment sequence runs just fine, but a very simple state restore errors out.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Kyle

    It looks like I'm getting two errors during the restore.  First is that the COMPUTERNAME\unknown account is chosen for migration, but the target does not have account NEWCOMPUTERNAME\unkown. Directly after that is Failed.[gle=0x00000006].  Then
    I get unable to create a local account because \lac was not specified and USMT error code 14.  Below are the logs:

    I tried enabling the restore local accounts box, but that didn't work.  Also the sequence runs just fine on a different model machine.

  • Windows 8.1 Dynamic Local User?

    Greetings
    I am running Zenworks 11.3
    I have 4 windows 8.1 desktops that I am testing the latest Novell Client and Zenworks Agent.
    Everything works great, I am able to authenticate with novell and zenworks creates the local user account on the desktop. The problem is.... Microsoft's Windows 8.1 does the "splash screen" for about 3 minutes while it "installs the applications" for the Windows 8 metro stuff. This happens for *Every* user that tries to login to that workstation. Once they login once they are fine, but... i can't have the kids wait 3 minutes while Windows 8 does the needfull....
    Is there anyway to prevent this? Can I have my students Authenticate with Novell as a unique student... but then utilize a generic "Student" profile that is already on the Device? that way they don't need to wait 3 minutes?
    I can install DeepFreeze which will reset the settings everytime they logout... so the next person gets a clean Student profile..... but something has to happen about the delay....
    Any suggestions?
    I am willing to pay^H^H donate money to somebody to help me out with all of this if required!
    Thanks!
    John

    Yes, you can configured the DLU policy to use a Specific Account.
    Make sure to enable "DLU Caching", otherwise it will be volatile.
    You can also try and tweak your Default User Profile, so that it is
    based on a profile that has already run that process.
    You may want to ask in the MS Forums if there is a way to turn that off
    for new users, but don't reference DLU or ZENworks as they will not know
    about that.
