Localization with an LCDS based AIR application

Hi,
I wanted to add localization in my app, so I followed this
step by step how-to :
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flex_3:Feature_Introductions:_Runtime_Localization
I succed make this to work, but with a simple test
application.
So I decided to do the same with a biger cairngorm LCDS based
application.
But a encounter an issue : with locales specified in the
compiler params (ie:en_US,fr_FR), everything works, but with bundle
list, I got an error :
"Could not find resource bundle data"
I found some related pages on the web speaking about this,
but they all were concerning Flex betas.
Can you help me ?
Note : I'm using Flex 3 and LCDS 2.5.1

I'm afraid you are picturing the architecture in the wrong
way. An AIR application is essentially a traditional desktop
application -- you just create them with what have traditionally
been web-based technologies. There are also many APIs and a
built-in security model for network and Internet interaction which
make it easier to develop an AIR-based desktop application that can
safely access networked content.
Your main application SWF (or HTML file) is installed with
the application, not downloaded. You could download additional
modules and execute them in the privileged application sandbox, but
there is a security risk that either your server being hacked or a
man-in-the-middle attack could result in a forged module being
downloaded and executed instead of the original. I believe Flex
intends to implement signed modules to mitigate this risk, but
until this feature is available, it is better to install all the
application logic as part of the application. AIR includes an
update framework for updating an installed application, but for
user experience reasons, you probably wouldn't want to update the
application too frequently.
All that said, if what you really want is a customized
browser for your web application, you could write such a thing
using AIR (using the mx:HTML control, for example) and have that
hardcoded to access your web application.

  • Font Anti-Aliasing Issues in HTML/Ajax based Air Applications

It seems that the font-renderer in HTML/Ajax based Air Applications is using some kind of sub-pixel font renderer that is overriding and vastly inferior to the standard Windows ClearType, or any Apple based option as well.  This problem is particularly noticable with light text on a dark background, and made worse the smaller the text is.  I've put together an example image explaining exactly what I mean at: http://regator.com/fontRendering.png   (it's a large image 1126 x 1500 px)
My example shows two fonts at four different sizes rendered in an HTML Air App vs the default Windows Cleartype, as well as using Safari to show the Font style anti-aliasing.  In all cases the HTML Air App rendering is far more difficult to read, and in many cases severely distorts the color of the text in a way that other subpixel algorithms do not.  As far as I can find after literally hours of googling and searching there's no way to override this in HTML based applications.  Is there any solution to this, or a planned fix for the renderer?  Other than this rendering issue, the HTML interface for creating Air apps is absolutely brilliant, this is just making my finished product look significantly less polished than it otherwise would if the text were more readable.
    Thanks.

    Dear caturner81, dear Adobe,
is there a solution to this problem? I'd really love to fix the aliasing thing in Air/HTML!

  • Flex Based AIR application & remote HTML

The question is ....from a flex based AIR application do you
always have full access to all of the HTML content loaded from a
remote site via the DOM (htmlLoader.window.document), or is the
'context' of what you can see limited to what the initial url
requested can see - i.e. the context is as if it were javascript
running in the page corresponding to the initial URL.
As far as i can see if i request say the page
    http://www.abc.com/page1.htm
and it has content along the lines of
    <IFRAME src="
    http://www.xyz.com/page3.htm"
    id="remoteframe" />
    <IFRAME src="
    http://www.abs.com/page2.htm"
    id="localframe" /?
then using the htmlControl.htmlLoader.window.document i can
successfully navigate the DOM for the initial page loaded and
    localframe, but
    not remoteframe.
I've seen various comments about sandboxes, bridges and
applicationdomains in the documentation but i don't see how this
    can help me.
Can someone please shed some light on this? Can i from the
AIR application access all of the DOM, or am i restricted to the
initially loaded page and pages referenced from the same domain in
    the page?
    Thanks
    Jamie

    Hi,
From your AIR application, you can only access "exposed
    properties" in remoteframe.
You expose a property by using the sandbox bridge mechanism:

I can package AIR application (package type ad-hoc distribution) inside IntelliJ (from Build menu)

Is there a way to have more details on the error? At the moment, it's just a Java returned:2 error.

  • Execute .exe File With Arguments From CaptiveRuntime Air Application

    Hello,
We have an AIR application compiled as a Captive Runtime app. We need to launch a Native Process (an exe file) on application startup and pass some arguments to that exe. Are there any examples on how to do this? Any resources we can look at for guidence?

  • Problem with Expose and Adobe AIR application -can't click on app in Expose

I just installed a new Adobe AIR application called TwitterLocal. The app was working fine until I accidently hit some keyboard shortcut and the application window disappeared. I figured I accidently assigned the window to some other "space," however I do not have SPACES turned on. Furthermore, when I select EXPOSE, I can now see the content of the application's window, however if I click on the app (which takes on that grey-highlight appearance when you mouse over it) the desktop returns to its normal position. I can see via the top status bar that the app is currently selected, but I cannot access the app window.
Is there any way to send an app that was "sent" to expose back to the normal desktop? I've tried rebooting and even uninstalling/reinstalling the app but it is still lost in expose.
Any thoughts on this would greatly be appreciated.

Solution was to change display to lower resolution, then the Adobe AIR app TwitterLocal became visible on the standard desktop and I was able to click on and move the app window towards the left of the desktop. Once I switched the resolution back, everything was ok.

  • How can I execute a java class with arguments from an air application built from mxml?

I have an mxml application. It has a button, and when that button select event occurs, I want my mxml air app to pass arguments to a java class I have built, which resides in a package path on my system. I need to be able to pass several arguments to my java method from my mxml call. How do I do this, and what config files are necessary? For the simple task I want to engineer, can you show me an example of a properly configured config file? My java class has been executed at the command line in the past as follows:
java -cp %CP% com.abc.prism.queue.EmitMessage XYZ "my message text" 192.12.13.14 5672
where %CP% is an env variable that tells my class the classpath it runs with, and XYZ, "my message text", the IP address, and the port are the arguments I must pass from mxml to my java class. How do I accomplish this?
How do I make known to the java class I call from mxml the %CP% class path? It tells my java class where to find various rabbitMQ jars.

  • HTML-based AIR app with transparent UI, shadows, etc.?

I'm debating on whether to use Flex or HTML/Ajax for a widget
in a project. If I make an HTML-based widget, is it possible to
have UI tricks like shadows and transparency, basically, NOT being
confined to a standard OS "box" window? Is this possible?
    Thanks.

Yes it is possible to do this with an HTML-based AIR app.
However, since the visual elements will be HTML-elements, not
display objects, you can't use the Flash APIs for shadows and
transparency. Also, in a transparent window, SWF and PDF content in
    HTML cannot be displayed.

  • Flash in HTML-based AIR app: Urls do not open

    Hy there
Like the title states, I have a HTML-based AIR application, which embeds flash. This flash opens Links which should eventually open the default browser. For this I previously had to set the following property in my AIR application:
    window.htmlLoader.navigateInSystemBrowser = true;
Like this the URL calls were forwarded to outside the application and then opened the webbrowser. We had successfully tested this on various systems.
However, now there are users of our application, who report that on their system (Including WinXP Professional SP3!) the websites do not open at all. When clicking on a link inside the app nothing happens.
    Their system:
    Hardware: Lenovo IdeaPad S12
Windows XP Home Edition v2002 Service pack 3
    IE 7 (Version 7.0.5730.13)
    Firefox 3.5.7
I had a look at the system and things like switching the default browser or re-installing Firefox did not work. Unfortunately this is a critical issue and kinda urgent so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Thank you for reporting back and letting us know.

  • Squareup integration with Adobe AIR based ios Application

    Hi All,
Does anyone is having any experice to work with 'Squareup' i.e.   https://squareup.com/

Hi, please forget my last message. I was changing so many things I finished using a wrong mobileprovision. That's why I couldn't install the app in the device.
On the other hand I have found the problem. Some changes in one of our ANE were not tested in iOS 5.0.1 devices and it made the app crash because it found a Adobe Air 3.5 bug. Adobe fixed it in AIR 3.6

  • Can HTML based browsers rotate along with a Desktop AIR application if browser is modular?

I get a buged out browser module in my Desktop AIR application after doing an application level rotation/orientation-change/flip screen for viewing on other side of monitor .
Most of the HTML content rotates 180 degrees without any issue, but, it seems some of the "components" aren't getting with the program.
Dropdown box lists don't rotate, even though the button to initate use of the dropdown list does. So, when viewing the application from the new orientation,
the dropdown lists are upside down from an end user perspective ( just never rotated properly from a developer perspective )
I was having to flip my application by sending out a message to a service and recieving the call from a WCF to tell the whole OS to flip via WIN32 API but
64bit operating systems do this a lot slower, so i'm trying to find a new solution.
I am wondering if a workaround can be done by replacing the misbehaving things like the dropdown box with native flex components?
    Any thoughts/ideas/conclusions?

    Did you try ...
    location.href = url
