Locating and installing packages

Recently installed Oracle Linux to host Oracle BI. Going through the BI software requirements, we have a list of software packages that are required. running 'rpm -q -a' to get a list of all installed packages, I see that I am missing several. Where do l locate the missing packages and where should they be placed on my system in order to install them with rpm? For instance, following the instruction in the BI installation guide, I get the following:
[root]# rpm -q -a |grep compat-db >> package_list;view package_list
[root]# rpm -ivh sysstat-4.0.7-4.EL3.3
error: open of sysstat-4.0.7-4.EL3.3 failed: No such file or directory
my system is :
[root]# uname -a
Linux <mask server name> 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jun 5 23:25:19 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Also ...
Another item in the software requirements says 'If the hugemem kernel is used .....'
So, how do I determine if it that applies to me?

kpackage ?
[root]# kpackage
-bash: kpackage: command not found
okay, maybe it's not in my PATH
[root]# find / -name kpackage -exec ls -l {} \;
[root]#
(no kpackage found)
after copying all of the rpms from cd to /pkgs, I was able to install most of the additional required packages. Note the following:
[root@<my server> tmp]# cd /pkgs
[root@<my server> pkgs]# pwd
/pkgs
[root@<my server> pkgs]# ls -l openmotif*

BTW, I know I should be some 'privileged' user other than root, but am not sure how to create such a user. I do have a normal user account for myself. How would I go about making it 'privileged', and what privileges would that have. More importantly, what would it not have that root does?

  • How do I locate and install Activity Monitor?

I cannot find Activity Monitor on my computer.
When and how it disappeared I do not know, but is there anyway of locating and installing a copy without a complete re-install?

"Activity Monitor" is stored on the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder. Before reinstalling OS X, I recommend you to search it with Spotlight.
To search it in Spotlight, press Command and Space keys so, if you have a look at the top right of the display, Spotlight will appear. Then, type "Activity Monitor" without quotes, and check if the application appears. If it appears, it hasn't disappeared because you can use it. If it doesn't appear, you have to reinstall Mac OS X. Insert the Mac OS X disc, hold the C key while your computer is starting, and reinstall Mac OS X. You won't lose anything from your computer

  • Bluetooth and Install packages

    Hey folks,
I've got a problem with my iBook G4. I'm using Tiger 10.4.5 and recently, when I want to send files via bluetooth, I just can't. I click the option "Send file" and nothing happens, whilst before there opened a windows, where I could choose the file to send. I don't think that it's a hardware problem, because I can perfectly receive files on my iBook via bluetooth.
Then I've got another question. I don't own this Mac for very long and I'm still not used to the install packages. I just downloaded a "Bluetooth uptdate", but the file I get is a ".dmg" file and when I doubleclick it, a ".pkg" file opens. I just don't know what to do with it, because when I want to open that file, it says that there is no standard programm chosen to open it. The same happens when I download the latest "iTunes" version, the only difference is that I get a ".spkg" file (but the problem is the same) - can anybody tell me, what I have got to do with these files?
    Thanks in advance

My net is not that fast it is a 512Kbps line and the ISP downgrades my speed to 256Kbps after 10 GB. For LMDE i have copied the updates to a folder which I can use with apt.
Right now I am on a 4 Mbps line so I want to download lets say kde 4.7 , do I need to go to kde or can I get the latest kde from here ?

  • A215-S4747 Unable to Locate and Install PCI Device Driver

This is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 32-bit AMD processor running Windows Vista Home Premium.
I have repeatedly tried to locate the PCI driver by using the discs that accompanied the PC, locating the correct driver on Toshiba Support, and though the device manufacturer is "unknown".  I have attempted to write and get a response from the chipset manufacturer - but they claim their is no way for them to know and to contact Toshiba.
So, how do you solve this problem?  (PC troubleshooting responses):
    PCI Device - failed
OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller - failed
Went to locate: C:\DRVSTEMP - does not exist.
    My devices:
Satellite A215-S4747 32-bit AMD processor, Vista Home Premium
    Satellite P72-A7200 Intel Core I7 4700MQ CPU @ 2.4GHz, Windows 8.1

    Satellite A215-S4747 Specifications
    Satellite A215-S4747 Support Page
Let's try this driver and see if resolves the problem. Download this file, double click to install, reboot after installation and test:
    TI Card Reader Driver
If this doesn't work, click on 'Start' -> type in:   system info  -> click on 'System Information' ->  in the left-hand pane click on 'Components' -> in the left-hand pane click on 'Problem Devices' -> in the right-hand pane, under the 'PNP Device ID' column, give us the 4 digit VEN number, and the 4 digit DEV number. Like in the below example: VEN_8086 and DEV_4232.
Let us know what happens or give us the above numbers.

  • Searching and installing packages from testing w/o editing pacman.conf

    Is this possible?

tomk wrote:Installing individual packages from the testing repo is not recommended as they are likely to depend on testing versions of other packages. The only supported way of using the testing repo is to enable it at the top of the list in pacman.conf.
I don't understand why that is true.
If I enable the testing repo and update a package (pacman -S package), and if the dependencies are set correctly, the dependencies from testing needed should also be installed/updated, right?

  • Help Needed: sjsas9 download location and install problem

    Running XP SP2
    Downloading file: sjsas-pe-9_0_01_p01-windows.exe (40818KB)
and then trying to install, the installation fails and the error logs show App Server 8.1 not 9.1???
sjsas-pe-9_0_01_p01-nb-5_5-windows.exe (96575KB) show the same thing: Sun Appserver 8.1 not 9.1
Both files were downloaded from the Sun Download site on different days.
I thinking If i got the right "package" (.exe file) Sun Java System Application Server 9.0 update 1 PE, the app server might actually install w/o error (exit code 151)..
    Thanks for you help

Please explain this? I never done that before.
In Help I clicked Deactivate and then see a pop up box with 2 choices, Suspend Activation or Deactivate Permanently.
I hit the Cancel button at the bottom for now.
If this don't work I will Call Adobe on Monday and hopefully get it all worked out, or I will be packing up Both CS5 Upgrades I just bought and send them both back to Amazon for a full Refund.
This should NOT be such a P.I.T.A. just because a few kids hack and use photoshop without actually paying for it.
I am 50 years old BTW, and Paid for my Legit copys, but I gotta jump through Hoops as punishment for a few who don't pay.
Myleniums answer sure sounds like a big pain in the a** to go through and I'd just Return the CS5 stuff, Including the CS5 Illustrator I just upgraded as well. As a Amazon Prime Member they will take it all back and refund me my cash.
As a rare user, just for myself at home, I only Upgraded because I knew Adobe only allowed you to get 3 versions behind before you had to rebuy the full install software all over again so I waited until I thought it was getting close to CS6 coming out and I would Not be able to upgrade at the upgrade pricing. And the CS6 Licensing I read about coming up does NOT appeal to me.
So CS2 or CS5 will be it for me and Adobe. As a Hobbiest I cant afford to do upgrades for each new version. /i heard starting with CS6 you will be Required to upgrade when the very next one comes out, not able to skip a version. Or even some silly monthly fee type thing, Never will I pay a Monthly fee for software use.

    Solutions?

The PKGBUILD is out of date.  That website no longer hosts gsm.  The all seeing google tells me this:
A more extensive version of this document used to be at http://www.cs.tu-berlin.de/~jutta/toast.html aka http://kbs.cs.tu-berlin.de/~jutta/toast.html, hosted by the university I studied computer science at many years ago. I don't know whether my alma mater is suffering some sort of technical failure, or whether they finally noticed that I've been gone for about ten years - but my directories there don't seem to exist anymore. I made a couple of backups over the years, but I'll take the opportunity to trim down the page a little.
The place where it is now, quut.com, the Questionable Utility Company, will likely be around as long as I am. Thanks to the Technische Universität Berlin for its long and largely pain-free hosting services; we'll take it from here.
    Current project site: http://www.quut.com/gsm/

Umm, so how do I do to install lib32-libwbclient?
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lib32-libwbclient/
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR
Maybe it wasn't clear from my original post, but I have yaourt installed and I tried to install lib32-libwbclient by running yaourt -S lib32-libwbclient, which resulted in the error message in my original post. I have used yaourt to successfully install packages in the past, such as ttf-ms-fonts and owncloud-client.

"The path cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package "itunes.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product itunes." this is all I see whe i tried to update or uninstall itunes. Why?

  • Location and size of hotspot in a packaged file

    Hi all,
I'm working on a authorware program in which I want to use the location ans size of a clicked hotspot to draw a rectangle. Ultimately, I would like to be able to change the size/position of a hotspot, and when packaged, the rectangle should be drawn at the new position of the hotspot, with the new size. So far, I've been succesful in an unpackaged file with:
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awSizeX))
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awSizeY))
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awLocationX)
      GetIconProperty(@Title; #awLocationY)
where Title is the title of the clicked hotspot. So far so good... BUT I learned the hard way that GetIconProperty() does not work in a packaged authorware file (next time I'll first read the help section better!). My question: how can I obtain the same information in a packaged authorware file?
I have been looking at the GetSpriteProperty() function, which should work in a packaged file. However, the hotspots are not sprites, and I don't know what spriteproperties I should use for the location and size of the hotspot  (#awSizeX, #awSizeY, #awLocationY, & #awLocationX don't work). Furthermore, GetPostPoint does provide the position of the top left pixel position of the hotspot, but I need separate X and Y values for the position of the hotpot to be able to use the Box() function to draw the rectangle. And I need the of the hotspot as well. Lastly, PositionY@Title and PositionX@Title don't work for my hotspots (the value is always 0 and does not change when clicking the hotspots).
I could solve the problem by making variables of all the position values and size values of all the hotspots, but then I would not be able to change the position and size of the hotspot by dragging, and changing the rectangle accordingly.
I would be more than happy to hear if anyone has a solution for me.
    Thanks!

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your suggestions! Regarding your first thought: I don't know what you mean by making my clickable area a hit *object. I've tried the help pages of authorware, but it drew a blank. Could you explain how I can make my clickable area a hit *object?
Regarding clickX/Y: the values depend on the exact location where the user clicks, therefore drawing a rectangle over a picture (which is not moving) is difficult using clickX/Y. I would like the rectangle to appear on a certain spot (namely on the position of the hotspot, with the same width & height), regardless where in the hotspot the user clicks.

That is true - I apologize for not being specific - what I was mainly referring to is iLife applications. I have a notice on the App Store that says 3 apps need updates, I look at the apps and they are huge so since my connection is so slow I use my work connection and d'load the files from support to my Windows machine and carry them home, once d'loaded my MacAir states it cannot install, the update must come from the App Store.
I do the same thing for large Leopard and Lion files and I can install them without error, it is just the App Store files that the system stops.
