Location error in finding a lost iPad
I've just bought an iPad2, got it al set up and subscribed to the MobilMe search feature as the initial test. the location it came up with was nearly a mile off. Whose error is this and can it be corrected?
Have you got the 3G + wifi version or the wifi only version ? The wifi version relies upon the router that it's connected to correctly identifying/reporting its location.

You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely. -

device is offlineIt will only show if the device is turned on. And if someone else has it, they can turn that feature off. Your best options are to return to the location where you think you lost it, and see if anyone returned it. Also contact your local law enforcement.

I'm a teacher who had an ipad issued by my district. I had purchased and downloaded hundreds of dollars of apps to help my students and to use within my teaching. I have lost my ipad for weeks now:) I had left it at school and have not been able to find it. I regret not telling our IT dept. right away but was sure I simply "hid" it in my room and with the craziness of the first quarter of school, had forgotten where I hid it. After two weeks of tearing my room upside down, I still cant find it. If it were stolen (a scenario) I now consider), could I retrieve it at this point or at least find a location? The ipad was registered and I always was logged in to my i-cloud account. Help...

regardsUnless you set up MobileMe / Find My iPad on it before it was lost/stolen, then there isn't any way to locate it. If you did set up MobileMe on it then you could try locating it either via me.com on a computer or Find My iPhone / Find My iPad on a another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or MobileMe disabled on it.
If you think that it was stolen then you should report it to the police. As a safety precaution you should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc. -
i have ipad 1 and 2 and an iphone. I registered all items and i have idisk/me. Anyway, i the ipad 2 is lost. When i use the find my iphone software it only looks for my ipad1 and my iphones. I have the serial #, can i track it manually? What do i do. The worst part is I was going to make an appt with apple to bring both ipads and iphone to sync the Me.com For some reason the idisk wasnt working right. thank you
Did you actually set up Find My iPhone on your iPad2? Is it a wifi or 3G unit. If 3G, did you have cellular data on? For a 3G unit (iPhone or iPad), celular data must be on in order for Find My iPhone to work. If you had a wifi only unit, it will only work if the unit is connected via wifi. But, it seems if it it's not even in your list of devices in MobileMe, you may not have set it up on your iPad. If you didn't, there's really nothing you can do to find it. And Apple won't help you. They don't get involved in theft/loss issues.

Can I turn off the setting to "erase iPad" if I find my lost iPad?
I lost my iPad a few weeks ago, and since the battery was dead, I couldn't find it using "Find my iPhone." I was concerned that it could have been left somewhere in public, so I set it to erase the iPad upon connection to the internet. Now I found the iPad last night. Can I turn off the "erase iPad" setting in Find my iPhone? It doesn't seem to allow this (I assume for some security reason, but I need to use my apple id to get into
Normally I would say no, but one user reported success with the procedure outlined in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4076422?start=0&tstart=0. Can't confirm if this actually worked but it may be worth a try.
