Lock text (caption) with an image

I have a caption for an image that I would like attached to it. I want the text to be visible only when the image is and vice versa. I know there's a lock so I tried it but must not be doing something right. They are both layers and I have tried selecting both and then applying the lock but that didn't do it as I thought it would. How do zI accomplish this feat.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm... You sound like you're coming from Photoshop. In Photoshop, each object is its own layer. In Fireworks, objects are objects (bitmaps, vector shapes, text), but they are arranged in layers.
Grouping is used to combine/associate objects (non-destructively) so that they can be controlled as a single object. (You can move, transform, set blending modes, and so on.) You can group multiple times. You can group a single object with an existing group or you can group multiple groups.
Layers are often used to organize related objects. For example, when I make a Web layout, I'll often make layers for header objects, navigation elements, content place-holding items, footer objects, and background objects. Within each layer, I may have objects I alternate between. I may turn the visibility of layers on and off. I may turn the visibility of individual objects in a layer on and off.
Depending on your version of Fireworks, there is such a thing as a sub-layer. I know CS3 has it, read the tool tips on the folder-like icons at the bottom of the Layers panel. I haven't found a need for it, myself. It might be what you're looking for, though.
If you have a layer of bitmaps and text captions, you can certainly select the bitmap and its corresponding caption (click one object in the Layer panel then Ctrl-click the other object) and group the two objects. You may have many such groups on this layer. For example in this FW .png, there are three groups (rectangle and text object pairs) and one pair that is not grouped:
Save the image to your computer, open in Fireworks, and see if grouping is what you want.

  • Spry Tabbed Panels - replace text tab with an image, how to?

    Hi all, I'm stumped. I've uploaded 2 files to:

    I'm working in Dreamweaver CS3, 4 tab "Spry Tabbed Panel" with 3 columns (one column is a form and submit btn). The 1st photo is a mockup of what I'm trying to accomplish. In the 2nd photo, Nokia designed a page for its Nokia Developer Summit 2010 (been pulled down since). This is the desired effect. I'm trying to replace the typical text tabs in the tabbed panel with images, or, at the very least, change the color between states ON and OFF (images the same except for bg color - green verses gray), which is probably the better way to go, given page load time.
    I need the CSS and HTML code. I'd settle for just the image problem, but if someone can give me guidance on the content boxes too, that would be AWESOME!
    REALLY hoping anyone can help (Ben, I'm an Aussie too) - been on this for a month now.
    Very grateful Adobe staffs such a great resource tool as this site with a lot of really good, courteous brainiacs.

    Questions:
    1. Want to change Spry TP tabs to images (see link, above), then make them vertical tabs, with morph effect - How?
    2. How do I change the default TabbedPanels2 instance name? (not easy to rename)
    3. The first section of the code was planted in my index page - shouldn't this be pasted into a CSS file, or just leave it alone?

  • [CS2][JS] Search text & replace with inline Image

    I am working with a large layout with many entries. There is a text "placeholder" that I need to search for and replace with an inline image in that exact spot.
    I need to apply an Object Style to that image.
    There is a loop above this for each find/replace to perfom
    I have supplied samples to show what the variables will hold
    The following assumes that an Objectstyle named "image" exists
    //places the image
    app.changePreferences = null;
    findName = "OR-00014500-24-0000-1";
    fileName = "Ads:OR-00014500-24-0000-1:OR-00014500-24-0000-1.eps"
    myFinds = app.search(findName)
    for (j = myFinds.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
    app.select(myFinds[j]);
    app.place(fileName, false,{appliedObjectStyle:"image"});
    This doesn't apply the style to the placed object and I have tried many different ways to apply this in the properties.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I've seem to hit another hurdle....
    The code works well for searching and replacing the images. It applies the style to the image, but these images are not inline they are anchored. I ended up with a nice stack of images in the same corner.
    Ok... I need to then apply styles based on the images that have been placed already..
    This works well for cycling through the pages and with a bit more will change the style...
    myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    pagecount = myDoc.pages.length;
    for ( page=0; page < pagecount; page++){
    if (myDoc.pages.item(page).textFrames.length != 0){
    app.select(myDoc.pages.item(page).textFrames.item(0));
    piccount = app.selection[0].rectangles.length;
    if (piccount != 0){
    for ( bob=0; bob < piccount; bob++){
    app.select(myDoc.pages.item(page).textFrames.item(0));
    app.select(app.selection[0].rectangles.item(bob));
    // Get geometric bounds
    // alert(app.selection[0].geometricBounds);
    // Get object Style
    // alert(app.selection[0].appliedObjectStyle.name);
    // Do more here....
    I can't use this though :(
    I need to determine how many images have already been placed on the page before placing the image in the search and replace....
    myFinds = app.search(replaceName)
    for (j = myFinds.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
    app.select(myFinds[j]);
    myStory = myFinds[j].parent;
    myIndex = myFinds[j].index;
    //This will change using a series of Case Switches
    // Here is where I need to find the page and run the previous script or something like it myStyle = app.activeDocument.objectStyles.item("image");
    app.place(fileName, false);
    myStory.characters[myIndex].pageItems[0].applyObjectStyle(myStyle);
    app.select(myStory.characters[myIndex].pageItems[0]);
    //alert(app.selection[0].appliedObjectStyle.name);
    What I need to do is kind of combine the two....
    But I can't seem to get the current page of the selected image....
    I could use the page by page script, but it moves the character anchor point of images and pushes them to the next page. This throws off the pretty layout I'm going for.
    What am I doing wrong here ?

  • Text Caption options not applied

    Hi,
    I'm trying to add a text caption with a transparent style.
    however when I try to modify font, font size, or color no change is
    being applied. If I switch to the Adobe Blue caption style I can
    modify color, but not font size. Any idea why this is
    happening?

    Hi there
    I happened across a weird issue just last night that was resolved by choosing a different ActionScript version. I'm wondering if you can try this to see if there is a change in behavior.
    Click Edit > Preferences > Project > Publish Settings and whatever it's set to AS2 or AS3, try the other option and see if it changes your outcome.

  • Text Caption appears in Edit Mode but not in Preview Project or Web Browser

    I'm using Cp4 and have downloaded Adobe Flash 10 Active X, it's ver 10.1.82.76.  I've added a simple text caption with these options:
    Timing Display:  Rest of slide
    Appear after:  2.0 seconds
    Transition effect:  Fade in only
    In: .5 seconds
    And Visible is checked
    I also have a simple line that I drew with the draw line tool and included an arrow on the end of it.
    Everything on the screen works including the click box, the animated text and the failure caption.  For some reason the text caption and the arrow are not appearing except in Edit Mode.  In Preview Project, they disapper but the click box, failure caption and animated text work fine.
    I've rebooted, copied this screen into a new instance of Cp4, re-created these objects on a freshly recorded screen, chosen Order: Bring to Front, created a brand new screen completely from scratch and downloaded the Flash 10 Active X version mentioned above.
    They funny thing is, is that the text caption and arrow works fine on other screens in the project.  I have 76 screens total.
    I'm running Windows XP.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi there
    Can you post a screen capture of what your Timeline looks like?
    Odds are your Click Box is pausing in a weird place.

  • Exporting Text captions - Non MS word possibility

    Captivate 8.0.1.242 - Windows 7 - 64 bit - swf format.
    Is there a possibility to export text captions with the need of having MS word in my computer?
    Frankly, I hate MS word and I always stick to LaTeX. Hence, I do not have MS word in my computer. But I would still like the possibility of exporting the text captions in Captivate file to a doc file such as Libre Office so I can send it people who prefer using Word it to translate content.
    Also I really prefer not getting a licensed version of MS word which I'll never use, just to do this exporting possibility.

    Ok. I did export it in XML and opened it in Notepad. Kinda got scared and scarred by it.
    But I opened it in the browser and it was ok. But still the content was not in 2 columns and so on. So is that expected from XML file? I have to manually create the 2 columns like the way captivate does it while exporting to word?

  • Text Caption Bubble with Bottom, Right-hand "Tail"

    Hello,
    There have been a number of times when using a Text Caption
    bubble with a "tail" (not sure what that's really called) that
    sticks out in the bottom right corner of the bubble. I can resize
    my text to be able to use a different bubble that is available in
    Captivate, but it would just be really nice if there were this
    bubble in the set of available bubbles. Does anyone know if one
    exists? And how can I add it to the set of choices for
    adding/editing a text caption?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Teresa

    Hi again
    Ohhhhhkay. I see a few possibilities.
    1. You may create your own Caption types. This is described
    in the Captivate help file as well as on fellow Adobe Community
    Expert Paul Dewhurst's site.
    Click
    here to read Paul's info
    2. You could choose another caption style and use it. But I'm
    guessing that's probably not an attractive option.
    3. You could create or find and use just an image that points
    where you want. Then cover it with the caption so that it appears
    the image is starting from the caption.
    4. You could choose another caption style that has the
    Callout Pointers. Then simply insert the caption with the pointer
    of your choice in the direction of your choosing. Then place that
    behind the other caption. The consolidated result would be the
    appearance of your existing caption and the one below.
    Actually, #4 was what I was about to suggest for a caption
    type that uses callout pointers. Sometimes you have a need to
    arbitrarily place the callout pointer. In this case, you do as I
    suggested above. Insert a caption with the pointer where you want
    it, then cover it with a caption using no callout pointer. You are
    then free to position the callout pointer exactly where you want it
    to appear.
    Hopefully something here helps... Rick

  • How to align text paragraphs with caption text boxes

    Hello,
    Im moving from QuarkXpress to InDesign, and Im setting up styles, templates, libraries, etc...
    The issue Im having is that when I add an image with a text caption box in one of the columns, the text that wraps around the caption text box, no longer aligns to the other columns, its off. I can't get it to realign to the other columns.
    Any help is appreciated.

    1. Is the leading of your caption the same as the body text? If not, you have to choose to align the top of the first line (slightly jarring) or bottom of the last line.
    2. It appears to me you have the caption vertically centred. That will make it far harder.
    To make it feasible to do manually, you can set the caption box text frame to start at offset "Leading", move the text frame to start exactly at the bottom of the image, and make sure all your images' heights are multiples of your leading. Group the caption frame and the caption box to make moving around easier.
    "Align to baseline" would be a good option, except that I find it too constricting on the entire rest of my designs (viz. the already observed "jump per entire line only"). One way around that is to set up your baseline grid to half, 1/3, or 1/4 of your leading. That way you have at least some control left over inter-paragraph whitespace, and you can still manually drag your images and have them snap to the closest "actual" baseline.

  • CS5 Live Caption Issue with Anchored Images

    For some reason, InDesign will not let me add a live or static caption if it is anchored in the body. I can put it on the pasteboard and add it but not while it is anchored. Does anyone know of a work-around?

    Hi Richard,
    I have the same problem as you do. I'm working on user manuals, with hundreds of screen captures I want to flow with text. The Live caption feature is wonderful, only it does not work with anchored images! If anyone out there finds a way to deal with this issue, or knows of a patch or update to download...

  • Text value not aligned with text caption

    Hello,
    In my text fields, the text value is always slightly raised from the text caption. Is there a way to get them to align?
    Thanks,
    Gail

    Hi Geo,
    I have tried top, middle, and bottom alignment and although they give different results, none are actually aligned with the caption text.
    The top and middle alignments still have the value text raised above the caption text.
    The bottom alignment gives a puzzling result of the value text being sunk below the caption text and actually somewhat cut off at the bottom.
    For some of my text boxes I have thrown together a work-around solution for this by setting the baseline shift for the value text to -3pt. Although this does seem to work, I don't imagine this is how the program was INTENDED to be used and I'd like to understand how to get the text aligned without having to tweak baselines.
    Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Gail

  • Text jobs with images - printer cancels

    When I print a text document with images the printer stops printing and cancels the print job when it starts to print any image.
    Help
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hey @sudiegal!
    Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
    I would be happy to provide some suggestions that may resolve the issue.  I can see that the printer cancels the jobs when you add a photo to you text document.  The first thing I suggest is to remove the printer by resetting the print system.  After the printer is removed re-add the printer and try printing the document again.
    To reset the printing system:
    1. Click the Apple icon at the top left of the computer
    2. Click System Preferences
    3. Click Printers and Scanners
    4. Hold down the "control" key on the keyboard and click with the mouse in the white space bellow the printer
    5. Click reset printing system dropdown
    6. It may ask for Mac ID and will color wheel for a moment until the printer is removed
    To re-add the printer:
    1. Click the Apple icon at the top left of the computer
    2. Click System Preferences
    3. Click Printers and Scanners
    4. Click the plus (+) icon under the printers list
    5. Select your printer
    6. Choose HP ENVY 7640 series in the dropdown next to "use" or "print using"
    7. Click add
    Please post back and let me know if this works out for you!

    This may be a problem that came in a previous release of Muse.  I have a few older examples where ALT text is produced, but it’s no longer updated if I update the Image Properties.

    I'm seeing the same problem. Looks like a bug to me. Any ideas as to how we can get this on Adobe's bug fix list?

  • Problem with importing images shifting text

    Hi,
    I custom designed a heading and menu on a blank page, and then I added images for a slide show (hyperlinked each one with next previous). My logo or heading is in the exact same place but when you go from one page to the next it giggles/or looks like it's shifting (this looks horrible when you are going through the images). The images are PNG and not very big in size (approx. 380 pixels by 580 at 72 DPI). The text shifting problem does not happen if the images are shrunk or kept at a really small size. I've tried everything I can think of and it def. has to do with the images being a certain size, but it does not make sense as I should be able to work with images that are this size -- they are not even very big to begin with! Any help would be so greatly appreciated. THanks!
    Best,
    Corinne

    Thanks for the compliment but mostly I just regurgitate what I've learned here. Regarding the image size I don't think you need to do anything. The only set of photos that are jpgs and can be downloaded are those in the Mollen and Drew section. The rest of them are java based and cannot be downloaded, only obtained via a screen capture. I don't know what you did differently for Mollen and Drew's page but it is different from all the others in that first gallery. However, the other pages can take the view to the overall gallery were the links to Blank # are visible. The few pages I visited of those, Blank 34 and 41 had jpgs for the large view that could be downloaded. Is that what you want? If so you might consider putting a watermark on the photos. This example was done with Photoshop but there are 3rd party applications that can automate the process, putting any text or icon on the photo in the location of your choice. iWatermark is just one of several. You can find them at VersonTracker.com.
    The current iWeb converts the photos to 800 x 600 and uses java for the slideshow and gallery. This makes it more difficult to download a photo. A viewer would have to make a screenshot of it in order to get a copy.
    Of the five one your gallery page only Mollen and Drew are of the type of page that has jpgs as the larger image. How was that page created as opposed to the one for Georgeen and Tobias. They are two different types of photo/slideshow pages.
