Locking clips to audio segments

Hey my friend and I are making a music video and we're wondering how to lock a clip to a segment of audio. Cause we have the video and music synced but then if we add a clip or delete a clip, the whole video is out of sync. Is there a way to lock clips to audio segments with iMovie? Thanks in advance!
Also on some clips we set the volume to zero but when we play the movie, the sound from the clip plays. We use the % indicator on the bottom left of the window and set it to zero but it still plays sound.

Thanks! We saw the lock clip to audio but it was grayed out so we didn't try it again.
Almost everything on the Mac works like this:
1. Select something.
2. Do something with it.
In iMovie we must select a clip — click on it — before we can act on it. Menu commands that act on clips are disabled — grayed out — when no clip is selected.

  • Want to lock video to audio, not audio to video--can 08 do this?

I know that this functionality isn't available in iMovieHD, but perhaps it got added in 08?
I'm making a music video--one long audio track that I'm cutting video to--and I want to be able to lock clips to the audio track. HD allows you to lock audio to video, but not the other way around.
Can I do this in 08?
    Thanks!

**! I've got to go final cut express to do this? Seems ridiculous...
    from your point of view...
editing 'videos' is no beginners task..
to add some clips somewhere to some music.. THAT is a 14y old's wet dream, iM08 fullfills within a snap ..
what you have in mind is advanced editing... that simple.
you need a timeline, you need a corresponding audio-wave-form, you need probably more tracks, to test 'versions', to manipulate content, ...
for sure, you can built a boat with just a saw and a hammer.. I'd prefer proper tools ...

  • How do you export a specific audio segment in timeline

I recently tried to reduce noise from a specific clip by exporting a short segment of my audio to create a file I can use with audacity. I ended up exporting the entire audio segment of the project.
How can I select a specific clip segment that is only a part of the video and export it to create a file I can then edit using audacity?
I would like to avoid exporting the entire event clip from which that segment came. I have done considerable editing of the original video footage in the event and trying to figure out where that segment came from would require a considerable amount of time.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.

in fcpx 10.0.6, if you have a range selection, the export will be only that segment.
Hold down the R key and click-drag a range selection, or use the playhead to mark In ('i' key) and Out ('o' key) points.
    Select Share > Export File
    In the dialog, select Settings
    For Format: Audio Only
Audio File Format: I recommend AIFF, CAF or WAVE (depending on your target audio editor.) [AAC, AC3, and MP3 are "delivery" formats, not editing formats.]
then hit Next and save it.
I recommend setting a marker at the in point so you can easily line up the edited audio when you re-import it.

  • Insert a video clip with audio in a sequence

I've created a sequence out of three subclips and renamed and saved it.  When I try to add another video clip with audio to the end of the last subclip in the sequence it only adds the video, not the audio.
    Please advise

Edit the video with sound to your timeline, when you are ready to replace the video with pictures, lock the audio tracks by clicking on the locks at the left side of the timeline:
Clicking on the locks will lock the tracks and will protect them from being affected when you replace the video with pictures.
Remember to unlock them when you want to edit or add more audio to the sequence.

  • How do I synchronize multiple *sequential* clips using audio waveforms in Premiere Pro CC?

I recorded a concert at my kids' school.  I ended up with:
Video in six separate clips (video+audio) from my Canon 5D Mark III camera
A single audio clip from my Zoom H4n recorder
The 5D Mark III can only record clips of up to 4GB in size, and clips 30 minutes in length.  The clips broken up by the 4GB size limit are adjacent to each other, but the clips broken up by the 30-minute limit have a stop-pause-restart gap of a few second.
On past such projects, I have used PluralEyes 3.0 to synchronize the clips.  But PluralEyes converts each stereo audio track into dual mono tracks, which I don't like.
I just happened upon this video:  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cc/merge-clips-automatically-using-audio-wave forms/?t=0  It shows how to synchronize a single video+audio clip with another audio clip.  It also shows how to synchromize multiple concurrent video+audio clips with another audio clip, for multi-camera editing.  But it doesn't show how to synchronize multiple sequential video+audio clips, as I got from my Canon 5D Mark III.
It seems that every time I select multiple video clips, the Synchronize item in the pop-up menu is disabled.  When I select only the first video clip and the full-duration audio clip, I can synchronize them with audio waveforms.  But then when I try to select the second video clip and the full-duration audio clip and synchronize them, it breaks the sync of the first video cilp
Can Premiere Pro CC synchronize multiple sequential video clips using the audio waveform method?
I am running Premiere Pro CC version 7.2.1 (4).
    Thanks.

I'm an editing newbie but this was the very first task I needed to do, i.e. align multiple video clips with a single audio track. My setup is similar. I'm shooting with a Canon 70D, which breaks up video into 4gb clips, which are continuous and easy to align end to end. But the 70D like the 5D only shoots for 30 minutes continuously, so a second or two is lost hitting record again. My external audio was recorded continuously with a camera mounted Tascam (like a zoom) with a line in to the camera. So, in theory, the audio should be the same on the external audio and the audio associated with the video clips, which probably helps the software identify the identical wave forms.
I found that I could roughly align the video clips based on the audio wave forms and then "synchronize" the audio as shown in the video (Merge clips automatically using audio waveforms | Adobe Premiere Pro CC tutorials). I found that this aligned the audio perfectly but separated the video from its associated audio track. But it's easy to select the video and snap it back into alignment with its audio. While it would be nice to have everything merge automatically, using synchronize sequentially did not take much time.
    Hope that all makes sense.

  • In the middle of a clip, the audio starts playing from another part.... Help?

So, I'm a bit of a technological noob, so I will describe this the best I can.  I have a clip (mp4) that runs about 1 hour 30 min long.  About 30 minutes into the clip, the audio from the beginning of the clip randomly starts playing, yet the video continues as it should, just the audio randomly swapped itself somehow?
I have not cut or edited the clip in any way, I simply imported it in, and put it on the timeline and no matter what I tried (restarting, clearing cache, reimporting, etc) nothing seems to fix the problem.  The weirder part is, if I watch the raw file using something like Windows Media Player, the clip is just fine, no problems at all.  So something must be going wrong when it's imported into Adobe Premiere.
Has anyone had this issue or know what may be causing this? I'm at a loss and it's keeping me from continuing a series I'm working on that I need to release.
As I said before, I'm a bit noobish, and this is my first time posting, so please feel free to respond with any additional info you need me to supply, and try to explain things in a noob friendly way, as I may not understand super technical jargon.
Edit: A little bit of info to help possibly... I'm using Windows 7 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

Hmmm okay.  I've been using PP for 2 years now with the same type of "non-camera media" and never had a problem til now.  But since then I've edited hours and hours of similar footage with no problem, so I may  just suck it up and use something like Windows Movie Maker to edit the one clip that is messing up.  Thanks for the help, and if anyone else has other suggestions, please feel free to post them

  • DV Stream Export Settings, Locked or Unlocked Audio

When capturing VHS tapes into Final Cut Express, I always keep my Canopus ADVC110 at the default settings, including locked audio.
I don't understand why Final Cut Express' export as DV Stream includes a little box to check or uncheck, for locked or unlocked audio. The FCE default is unchecked (unlocked), and I've been keeping it that way during export.
What does this do to the DV file?

Ok, I understand. Me too. I archive photos, video & audio - TIFF for stills, AIFF for audio, but for video I wouldn't pick DVStream. It's not really like TIFF or AIFF. DVStream is the format recorded on miniDV tapes and at this point is reaching technological obsolescence.
If you're trying to digitally preserve your VHS videos, QuickTime Movie would be far preferable to DVStream, technically today as well as considering its forward life. The codecs are the same, but the contents of the files are different. DVStream interleaves the audio, video & control streams (which is why it's so difficult to edit). QuickTime contains parallel video, audio & control tracks.
If you have captured your material via a Canopus ADVC, you are editing QuickTime/DV-NTSC in Final Cut. When you export to QuickTime Movie you are getting the exact same material. When you export to QuickTime Conversion to DVStream, FCE has to parse all your video & audio and reassemble it into the chunks required to assemble the DVStream file. To use the file in the future you will need software that supports DVStream. Even today, while FCE can work with DVStream, it has to render the audio before it's usable. Doesn't have to do that with QuickTime. There are even more issues, but I think you get the point.

  • How can I export a small iMovie 9 project for someone else using iMovie 9 in a way that they will be able to edit all the separate clips and audio?

I've tried simply copying the project - but of course, that no longer contains the separate clips and audio used to create the project.  Is there some export function I'm missing - or do I need to just gather up the clips and audio used in the project myself and send those?
    Thanks.

You need to export your project via the Share command.
Share > Export Movie.... (or Share > Export using QuickTime).
That will render your project (combine and set all the events, stills, audio etc).
When completed you can then take that exported file and import it into iMovie on another computer (or back into your own) as a new Event.
You can then start a new project, load that event file and continue editing.

  • How can i hold a spot in a clip, let the audio continue for a moment and then resume the clip and audio together?

how can i hold a spot in a clip, let the audio continue for a moment and then resume the clip and audio together?

you want to use the retiming tool. you can select what you want to hold, then use the "Hold" command (shift-H) to create a single frame of a default duration, which you can then change to whatever length you want by dragging the retiming handle.
Here's the page in the help manual that describes the hold feature in detail:

  • Aperture - when you have saved a multi-media slideshow and you export it how do you make sure the audio track retains the volume drops that you programme in? I have video clips with audio, which when they play in the slideshow, I fade the audio (music)?

Aperture - Sorry I'm new to this so this might be a bit long! I put together an aperture slideshow with a backing music track and some video interspersed with photos. When I exported it to put on you tube the audio backing track had not saved the fades that I had programmed when the video clips played. The video clips had audio on them that I set at one volume whilst fading the backing track. these fades didn't save on the exported version. Any suggestions please? Regards, Maxjackpete

  • How to identify low volume/level audio segments in a recording?

Iam newbie to Audition and trying to edit/master a 2 hour long lecture done in a live setting (not studio). Since the speaker sometimes moves away from the microphone the level of the audio sometimes falls off or reduces sometimes for a few seconds to a few minutes. I would like to identify all segments greater than 5 seconds which fall below say -5db.
I have tried using Diagnostics >>Effect : Mark Audio and set a Custom setting. I defined Silence has : Signal is below -5 dB, For more than 5000 ms (5 seconds) and Define Audio has Signal is above -15dB for more than 27 ms. It works to some extent in the sense it marks the Proper Audio segments in between the segments that are between the segments that are identified/marked as Silence but I would like the opposite. I would like to get the segments which are defined as Silence to be marked.
I am sure it is possible to do in Audition, appreciate all your help in figuring out how to do it.
To do the same in Audacity is very straightforward, Go to Analyze >> Silence Finder and define Treat audio below this level as silence : -5dB, Minimum duration of silence : 5 seconds. Thats it. That easy.
Would appreciate help from all the masters in the forum. Thank you for your time in advance.

Is what you are going to do when you have identified these sections to raise the volume. That can be done automatically without previously identifying them by using the Dynamic Processing or Speech Volume Leveling effects.

  • Locking Non Synced Audio To A Sequence

I have some old audio files ( mostly that came - using old drum machines) - that I want to sync to logic.
In digital performer 4.6 - I am able to highlight a multi bar drum track - then click " analyze audio" - and it makes an attempt to guess at the beats per minute. Then I can change the sequence to that BPM - then slide the audio drum track ( and all other related audio tracks) - and match up the drum downbeats to the beginning of a bar - and thereby lock non-synced audio to a sequence very easily.
Question: how do I do this in logic 7.11?

Beat mapping is probaly what you want
if you have an exact loop use adjust tempo using region length/locators

  • Can you lock clips?

This is a basic feature that I've looked for and can't find.
I finished my rough cut and I started doing sound and color grading. During this process of sound and color grading, there were clips where I wanted to DELETE a specific effect attached to the clip. This inadvertantly deleted the clip itself, accidentally, in some places and I didn't realize it until I went back to play the entire scene.
After doing a rough cut, is there any way to lock clips so that you can't delete them accidentally but you can still add FX to them?
    Thanks!
    Scot

The absolute fastest thing you can do: instead of removing the effect -- just turn it off. Click on the blue square on the left side of the Effect's name to toggle it off (it will turn black) . You don't accidently delete your clip... and if you want to reuse the effect later, all you need to do is turn it on (click the now black square). No need to re-set everything up.  It's also a good way to try out different combinations of effects quickly.

  • Lock clips in hierarchy not just in time.

When using Audition CS6 I often have to "drop in" a retake over another clip. In Audition 2 this "dropped in" clip would stay to the front above the original clip. In CS6 it doesn't, if I select the original clip the "drop in" goes to the back. Is there any way that I can lock clips not just in time but also in hierarchy? It can be very annoying to mix down a session only to find that a "drop in" has disappeared from the mix.

I think that this is now the default behaviour - if you want a clip at the front, you have to select it, and then it should stay there, and that's the one you hear in the mix. If it doesn't, then that might be a bug, but as far as I'm aware, it works fine. Personally I rather like the idea of a 'heirarchy lock' - it seems like a safer option, but strictly speaking it shouldn't be necessary.
I should also say that there's at least one other thing that people really don't like about the present drop-in arrangements, and that's the way that nothing gets automatically deleted when you overdub a track. Adobe don't trust you to know what you're doing, and assume that you are always going to want the one you just deleted... and it's since this change that the rotating heirarchy of clips has come about.
