This Forum is for Semantic Technologies, you may want to post your question to the forum
Forum Home » Database » Database - General
You can verify this:
1. Make sure the listener is up and running
lsnrctl stat
2. Make sure the database is up and running
sqlplus / as sysdba
startup
If that does not answer please post your question in Forum Home » Database » Database - General
Regards!

Listener is connected so their is no error at that tailexcellent point.
using localhost/127.0.0.1 means that no remote client can ever connect to listener/DB
The upside is that your DB like mine can NEVER be hacked across the *NET! -
Hi All,
Platform - Oracle 10gR2 Ent Edition on RHEL 5.5 (64-Bit)
After Installing we patched with the PSU - p6810189_10204_Linux-x86-64 and p8576156_10204_Linux-x86-64
After creating the database; we got the error;
ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode
so we followed the workaround as in [ID 1034037.6] and able to start the database properly.
We created 2 instances on the same server (VMWARE)
I am keep on getting this ERROR continuously in alert_log file and generating so many trace file's .
This is happening just after creating the database ,
please help me in this , and attaching cfglog files also.

I don't see the LISTENER = section of your listener.ora file. That's where you tell the listener the host and port to use.
You realize of course, that the listener runs on the server, not the client.
You realize, of course, that tnsnames.ora is a client side file and the listener doesn't care one whit what is in any tnsnames.ora file. -

Anybody who have been sorted out these errors please let me know.
thanksProtocol adapter error is either a missconfigured environment or a network related error. In your case, since you are working with a windows platform and there are other errors related to time out, I suggest you to verify the windows firewall, it could be preventing database from being reached by the oracle client.

Ubuntu 5.10 - lsnrctl start error - TNS-12555
Hi, hope you can help me with the following.
I'm unable to start the listener with the default tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files installed under Ubuntu 5.10. A listing of the error, and files below.
I am able to connect to sqlplus as system as long as I don't specify the sid. I am not able to access the database home page. However selecting dbms_xdb.gethttpport() does return a port number.
Any help appreciated.

On closer inspection it appears the $ORACLE_HOME/config/scripts/startdb.sh script does not start the listener with a prefix of su - oracle. This is probably an oversight as the stopall.sh script prefixes the listener stop call with su - oracle.
However I would have thought this problem would be common to all Linux installs, or is it something odd for Ubuntu?
Next the DB Home Page doesn't display, but I'll do some more research and post a separate message if necessary.
Thanks for your help.

TNS errors - 8.1.7 Personal edition
Thanks to whomever replies,
I am brand new to Oracle (I am a student). Everything on the 8.1.7 seems fine when I installed it. The thing is when I attempt to log into SQL+ using scott/tiger or whatever, with or without a host I get tns errors 12560 - protocol adapter error, 12541 - no listener, and 12154 - could not resolve service name. I am using my standalone computer, and I'm not connected to any database. Oh i've read other people's forum questions and replies and have experimented by changing configurations but still no luck. Most students in my class are experiencing the same problems I have--professor really of no help. Anyones help will be deeply appreciated.while connecting to an oracle database using any tool you have to specify a service name (net service name) to the client tool.
Service name is a combination of
Oracle SID :- each database will have a SID. In privious version its a 4 letter word like ORCL. In latest versions you can have the SID upto 8 letters. This SID is given while creating the database. In most default installations the default sid is ORCL.
Protocol information:-The protocol used to connect to the server. If you want to use TCP/IP protocol you should also provide the port number.(default 1521).
Machine name:- In which the server is installed. you can give ipaddress or machine name. if you want to know the ipaddress of your server you can use "ipconfig" in the os prompt. (in windows)
To create the service name you can use "net8 assistant" or Net8 configuration assistant. Then give the service name created as the host string while connecting to the database. -

LucianoWe are using Oracle9i Release 9.2.0.1.0 on Linux PCQLinux 2004.
The OS is based on Fedora Core 2 Linux kernel 2.4.22.xxxxxx and using gcc ver. 2.96.
Connecting from windows machines and using D2K as client.
We too are facing the same problem, after four-five days of continuous working, we start getting TNS Lost Contact at client side and same time we find one trace file in admin/<sid>/bdump/d000_xxxxx.trc, which shows the TNS-12531 and TNS-12570 error.
According to http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_tns_12531_error.htm, we have increased the both PGA space and large_pool_size. But problem is still there.
At the time of this problem no of sessions in OEM shows around 90-100 only.
Help me ...

regarding mountain lion server: clients experience intermittent service connections. the server system log has the following error- Client handshake failed (6):113: Server not accepting client connections. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thank you
Hi Jason
I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.
