Logging Denied EJB Method Invocation
In Weblogic Application Server, v 6.1, I'm experimenting around with
the AuditProvider. Several of my EJB's have method-permission
declarations that limit who is able to execute those methods. When
WLS correctly denies an attempt to invoke a method for which its
method-permission does not allow the user permission, the
AuditProvider method (checkPermission) does not seem to get called.
Should checkPermission() be called if a permission check against an
EJB method-permission fails? If not, is there somewhere else I can
capture and audit disallowed attempts to execute these methods?

I'm not sure but it sounds like it may be a bug. Please make
sure you are on the latest service pack (SP3 at time of this
writing). If so, and you still see the behavior I would recommend
opening a case with BEA Support. Please provide a detailed
test case so that a support engineer can replicate the behavior.

I have two applications a.ear and b.ear. They both are deployed on same oc4j container (10g(10.1.3.1))
Both applications use each others session beans. In order to make communications between these two applications possible I set global-jndi-lookup-enabled attribute in <application-server> element in server.xml file, to be true.
One of the applications use hibernate 3.1. According to some of posts from your forum, I replaced antlr.jar from toplink\jlib folder with one form with the one provided by the Hibernate 3 distribution.
In order to integrate Hibernate with Container managed transactions, I set in hibernate.cfg.xml:
hibernate.transaction.factory_class parameter to: org.hibernate.transaction.CMTTransactionFactory and
hibernate.transaction.manager_lookup_class to: org.hibernate.transaction.OC4JTransactionManagerLookup.
Everything works well since I save/update data in database. I save or update data, calling method from remote session bean.
I am getting java.lang.NullPointerException. Here is my error log:

-- SmiljkaOC4J can work with many different DataSources implementations to work against many different databases. We have not hardcoded it work only against an Oracle database. We have reworked the Data Source area in 10.1.3 to make it simpler and more consistent.
I'd recommend having a read of the the J2EE Services Guide for 10.1.3 (http://download-west.oracle.com/otn/java/oc4j/1013/doc/web.1013/b14427.pdf)
and have a look at chapter 4 where our new and improved DataSource implementation s discussed.

Transaction Isolation Level for EJB methods

I just found out the in OC4J one can not set the transaction isolation level on ejb methods. Moreover one needs to revert to bean managed transaction (manual coding of the ALL transaction logic) to set the isolation level.
On entity beans one can only set the isolation level for the whole bean (not on individual methods), and in session beans there is no way at all to set the isolation level.
This is on shear contract to all other application servers I used before (there one can declaratively set the isolation level for a ejb method, both in session and in entitybean deployment descriptors)
Is it foreseen in a future release to include such a valuable feature will be provided by oc4j?
Note that I was VERY surprised that OC4J could not handle this (I checked the j2ee spec, but admittedly the spec is a little vague about this support and makes it vendor dependent. the j2ee spec does not mandate this, except for CMP entity beans, but includes some suggestions on this ability. But most other application servers implemented the ability)

We can set the transaction isolation level for each entity bean, at the bean level. We don't have for the specification of method level isolation settings -- I'd be interested to hear how you would like/do use this. What behaviour do you expect to see when a transaction is started that spans multiple methods on a bean with different declared isolation levels.
For session beans, we do not currently have the ability to declaratively specify the isolation level to use for the bean. I know this is not in the forthcoming 904 release, and will to check what is beyond that.
As you point out, this can be done programatically using the Connection.setIsolationLevel() method on any connections you are using from within the session bean.

Detecting the source of a method invocation.
Within a given method, is there a way to detect what class/method made the invocation call?
I need to find a way to modify instance variables within a method, based on the invoking class ... I thought of navigating back through the Stack, but I am working with a multi-threaded application so I fear that I cannot absolutely depend on the last Stack call being the actual invoking class/method. Any ideas? - please help.

ThomasHow does one access the method invocation stack?I'm not sure if an easier way exists, but you can extend SecurityManager to fetch the Class context of the current Thread, which will provide you with an array of Class obejcts, ordered according to the method invocation stack. Thus, you can determine what Class invoked a particular method, but you can not determine what Object (not via the SecurityManager funcationality).
Here is a simple class I often use for such a need (excuse any formating issues- or misspellings in the documenation)... ... although, it should be stated, this class may not work in certain environments- specifically ones that deny permission "createSecurityManager".

EJB method parameters are sent but nulls are received
My client calls my EJB method passing two serializable objects as parameters.
Using print statements and a network snoop I have confirmed that:
- the client is calling the method with valid objects
- from examining the data it appears that the objects are being serialized and sent across the network
- the EJB seems to receive null values.
I have deployed the EJB to both 9iAS and a standalone instance of OC4J with exactly the same results.

No error messages? Nothing in the log files? Have you tried running OC4J in debug mode? In case you haven't already seen it, this "Technical Note" has more details.
Pardon me if I am stating the obvious, but it seems like there is a deserialization problem. Are the client JVM and server JVM both the same version? Have you implemented custom [de]serialization for the parameter classes? Is the same version of the parameter class files located both at the client and at the server?

EJB local invocation with getEJBLocalObject()

Imagine I have the following business service which is an EJB:

Let's assume that the required annotations have been added so that:
-) the operation1 must be in transaction
-) the operation2 can't be in transaction.
If the operation1 is invoked from another client (a front-end for example), a transaction will be opened by the EJB container.
But if I invoke the operation2 from the operation1 as described in the code (with the this. referencing the current instance and not the local EJB), what will it happen?
Should I make something like getEJBLocalObject().operation2() to ensure that the operation2 won't be in transaction as configured?

bgOnlineYes, it has always been this way. The behavior is independent of how the CMT metadata is specified. Container-managed transactions, method authorization, etc. only take place when an EJB component invocation occurs. The only way to make an EJB component invocation is on an EJB reference. getBusinessObject() is just a convenience method that returns the same thing "@EJB MyLocalIntf myLocal" would.
If the bean instance calls this.operation2() the container is not involved. It's just a plain Java method call.

Suppose some object of class B say b invokes a method on an object of

(P.S. I donot want just the class name.. thats is available in

Assume tagging is done and each instance is tagged with its

The NullPointerException is beacuse of JNDI problem,we resolved that issue.We are able to create the ejb instance but with that instance when we are trying to call ejb method,we are getting the below error in console and the BPM instance is not getting created.
We are able to create the instance of the EJB Bean.But when we try to call the method of EJB Bean(getTaskDetailsByTaskName(taskName)),the BPM instance is not getting created from BPM workspace.If we comment the code for the method of EJB Bean(getTaskDetailsByTaskName(taskName)) able to create the instance from BPM workspace.When we checked the log file this error,it is

Java.rmi.RemoteException: EJB Exception: while calling an EJB method,
Hi
I am getting below error while calling a stateless EJB method. There is some validation checks while performing ejb's modify() method and a RuntimeException is thrown in case of validation failure.The modify() method internally calls other stateless ejb as well.
The problem I'm facing is, instead of getting the expected RuntimeException in the Servlet, i am getting RemoteException. I am using WLS 9 MP1, all participating ejbs are stateless and i am using default transaction attributes(Supports) for these ejbs.
The interesting part is, at the ejb layer RuntimeException is thrown as expected, but this exception changed to RemoteException at the servlet's end where i am catching the ejb call exceptions.
I am new to WLS, please suggest/help me out of this exception.

Have you annotated it or denoted it in deployment descriptor?

How to solve the "Method invocation failed" error in script?

I'm trying to modify the script that enumerates all the txt (csv) files on folder and deletes empty columns, but with no luck. The script is working when I execute it on single csv file. But when I put script on loop, it generates errors:
Method invocation failed because [System.Management.Automation.PSCustomObject] does not contain a method named 'split'.

Thanks!You are importing a CSV file which implies that you are creating an object (pscustomobject) and each item in that object is represented by $line. The issue is that this $line has multiple properties (for each column of the CSV) that you need to decide
on which one to split:
$c = $line.propertyname.split(",")
I'm not sure, but it seems that if you are trying to split by a comma, then maybe you are assuming that you did something similar to a
get-content on the file in which the original approach that you have done would work.

Can't fill ByteArray in EJB-Method with generated Model-Class from WD-Model
Hello everybody,
i try to call an ejb-method with data from an FileUpload-UI-Element in WD. The EJB-Method is receiving the byte-data to create a document in KM via a Web-Service.
The ebj-methid has the following signature:
public FObject putFileDataSimple (byte [] btContent, String fullFileName, String username, String password)
After importing the Model and creating a context node i have the following structure:
Request_X_putFileDataSimple
+---btContent (Node)
+-- item
+ fullFileName
+ username
+ password
btContent is of the generated Type Byte_Item, which is itself a generated Model-Class of modelClassType ARRAY
item is of Type byte
But i simply have problems to fill the context node (or the binded model-object). i tried different ways and looked at thread [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/thread?messageID=1954223] but i cant get it work.
So my Method in WD looks like this to fill the structure and start the ejb-method:

1 errorIm a little confused here as to why I am receiving this notification...
The reason being is firstly I thought that when you override a method you can declare fewer or narrower checked
exceptions than the method that is being overridden and secondly,
this is a polymorphic method invocation on line 4 as Dog's getAge method is being called,
not class Animal's getAge method.
Any clarification would be well received,

Thanks for the input & regards.That's also true. I think what you are missing is the realization that compiler errors are based on static type information not runtime information.
Consider this method:
void f(Dog d, Animal a) {
d.getAge("");
a.getAge("");
}The method invocation d.getAge("") doesn't throw Exception, because that is how you overrode getAge in class Dog.
The method invocation a.getAge("") may throw a checked exception, because that is how the method is defined in class Animal. So the compiler will complain about this line: either catch or propagate the exception. Note that this compiler error is independent of what object a refers to -- a could be pointing to a Dog, it doesn't matter. Only the static typing matters at compile-time. -
Returning more than one value/object from an EJB method

I have the follong method in the remote interface of my EJB:
void createSomeObject( MyObject obj1, List returnList1, Map returnMap1);
Since i want to return a List (returnList1) and a Map(returnMap1) from my EJB method "createSomeObjects", i am passing these as parameters thinking they will be passed by reference and the client(servlet) gets the changes the EJB made to these objects.
But it doesn't seem to be working, the EJB is filling the List and Map objects and the servlet doesn't get it (pass by value problem).
My understading is that, all parameters to an EJBs are passed by value(because they are remote calls, the RMI thing), let me know if this right.
Is there any workaround apart from the following alternative?
Alternatives:
1. Wrap "List list1" and "Map map1" in another model and return this instead of passing them as parameters.
