Logging server start/stop to syslog?

Hi All!
I have spent all day on this and I am ripping my hair out!
Using Solaris 10 (update 5) and SMF I am trying to get the same start/stop information that is logged to /var/svc/log/... to output via syslog. According to the man page for svc.startd
The   supported   message
options include quiet, verbose,  and  debug.  The  quiet
option  sends  error  messages  requiring administrative
intervention to the  console,  syslog  and  svc.startd's
global  logfile. The verbose option sends error messages
requiring administrative intervention  to  the  console,
syslog  and svc.startd's global logfile, and information
about errors which do not require administrative  inter-
vention to svc.startd's global logfile.
and you can change the logging options by the following:
# /usr/sbin/svccfg -s system/svc/restarter:default
svc:/system/svc/restarter:default> addpg options application
svc:/system/svc/restarter:default> setprop options/logging = \
astring: verbose
svc:/system/svc/restarter:default> exit
This request will take effect on the next restart of
svc.startd.Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to log information +"about errors which do not require administrative intervention"+ to anywhere other than the global logfile ...
Any support here would be appreciated ...
Rudolf

Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to log information "about errors which do not require administrative intervention" to anywhere other than the global logfile ...There is since the set of errors which do not require admin intervention is null. Only LOG_WARNING, LOG_NOTICE, LOG_INFO and LOG_DEBUG are not sent - by definition, there are no errors. You are correct that there's no clean way of getting everything logged to the local file to go to syslog, though looking at the source, it looks like you might be able to get the same effect if you cause the open to the log file to fail. You could try by creating a directory with the name of the log file....

    Hi ,
It seems there is a clash of resources. There are rogue httpd processes left whenever OHS starts/restarts.File httpd.pid contains root httpd process and with the help of scoreboard file its communicated to child httpd processes.
    1.check OPMN LOGS.
    2.shutdown all process (OPMN infact)
    3.pkill or kill -9 httpd
4.go to $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs/states and delete all files.
5.check no other HTTP server ports are being used by other processes.(restarting the server is better idea !).
    6.CHECK ons.conf IF ANY ENTRIES ARE MISSING / MODIFIED - V IMP
    6.Start OPMN and HTTP Server.

  • BI server start/stop services

    Hi,
We have OBIEE installed on a unix server. Previoulsy I worked on OBIEE on windows server and would go to services and start/stop services. My question is if we modify the rpd and ftp it to unix server, do we have to stop and start the BI server for the modified rpd to work. Is it mandatory to stop the BI server, ftp the rpd and then start BI server again. Or if we do not stop the BI server and just do Refresh matadata from Answers..will this work? Thanks.

    Hi User,
You should restart the services if u ftping the rpd to unix means deploying the rpd to effect the changes
When comes to refresh metadata this ll work in case when the rpd opened in online mode and some one has made changes to get the available changes u have to do "Refresh Metadata"
    Thanks,
    Saichand.v

  • Start/stop LDAP server

    Hi,
When I go for installing OID it gives error.... LDAP is not up and running.
    Please tell me the reason.
And also help me, how to start LDAP server start/stop manually..
    Thanks,
    Arvind Sinha

For OID, there are 2 options to start / stop OID.
    option 1: use opmn.
    ./opmnctl startproc ias-instance=OID
    ./opmnctl stopproc ias-instance=OID
option 2: use oidmon and oidctl.
    ./oidmon instance=<sid> start | stop
    ./oidctl instance=<sid> server=oidldapd start | stop
For these, the pre-req is that the backend db is up and running.
    Hope this helps.

  • Start / Stop / View Log of Sun Java System Application Server From My App.

Hi forum folks, got this desktop application I am working on, it has a mail module which I built with JSP/Servlet and JavaMial and deployed to sun java system application server 9. The users click on a toolbar button to open the mail web-app on a browser from where they can use it.
However, I want the administrator of the server (my desktop app's server and sun java system application server)to be able to use toolbar buttons, menu buttons or popup menus to start, stop, and view the log file of the sun java system application server (will be running on the same system) so as to control access to, and monitor the mail app from my desktop app's server .
I also want to add some monitoring such that if sun java system application server is already running then the controls for starting it (or stopping it as the case may be) should be disabled, and monitor the start / stop processes with a progress bar etc
In summary, I want to be able to start / stop / view the log and monitor start / stop state of sun java system application server form my desktop app just as it obtains in netbeans IDE, any ideas about how this can be achieved ????

  • Unable to Start/Stop Directory server from console

We have two Directory Server 5.2 installations with both running as masters with replication between them. One of them was installed with the admin server and the other without. On the one that was installed without the admin server we added it afterwards.
We now find that on the one that had the admin server installed after the directory server that we cannot start/stop the directory server from the server console nor can we view or access backups or logs from the console. The system does however create the log and backup files and we can start/stop it from the command line.
I read in a post somewhere that the admin server can be created with a different user from the directory server or with the same username but a different domain and wondered if that was the problem but have looked through the configuration files on both machines and haven't managed to spot a discrepancy.
Does anyone have any ideas where and what to check?
    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

Ah, I wouldn't have recognized this scenario if you didn't report the scrozzled user name. The "access denied" error happens for the simple reason that 'IAyjcJlYKL' is not a valid user in your domain. Fancy that. If you look in your config.xml for the "node-manager-username" element, you may find the value is encrypted, and probably is 'IAyjcJlYKL'.
It might be best if you filed a support case for this. I can make some guesses about what you should do, but it's just a guess. In any case, if you try fixing something, make a backup of the file first.
The two things you can try doing are (backup the files and shut down everything first):
    * Edit the nm_password.properties file, replacing the one "hashed" line with two lines, setting the "username" property and the "password" property, both in cleartext. When the nodemanager starts up, it will replace those two lines with the "hashed" value.
    * Edit the config.xml file, replacing the values in the "node-manager-username" and "node-manager-password-encrypted" elements with their cleartext versions.
Then start up the nodemanager and server.
I'm familiar with this because I saw this happen, and I'm trying to remember the strange thing we had to do. I worked this out with BEA support a while ago. If it helps, my case number was #796710.

Ok I eventually figured it out... The SAP Application Server starts the database using the XUSER authentication - For some reason my system lost all settings for this.
In order to recreate, I had to use the command prompt and use the XUSER command.
Firstly "XUSER LIST" lists all user keys - I had none.
I then needed to set the default XUSER:
    XUSER -d NSP -u SAPNSP,<password>
<password> is the password for the user specified
Then I created the "c" key:
    XUSER -d NSP -U c -u SAPNSP,<password>
The reason I set up the "c" XUSER is because I noticed that in "\usr\sap\NSP\DVEBMGS00\exe\" there is a batch file used to start the DB - "strdbs.cmd". Inside this file it uses "c" as the user key in order to set the state of the DB.
After all of that it worked again...

  • How to avoid time wastage in starting & Stopping weblogic server during development ?

It is very frustrating to stop the server and start the server for any small changes made in the application.
Is developer supposed to restart the server for for any small changes made along with the testing?
One restart(Stop and Start) activity takes more than 10-15 mins. in debug mode.
    1) I make some changes then I start server in debug mode
    2) I see some mistakes in my bean code
    3) I change my bean.java or Impl.java
    4) I make a futile effort to reload Jars and reload the page
    5) It never takes my changes
    6) Only changes in properties of jspx components will accept the changes at the page refresh
    6) I add new component or new binding to jspx page, This will not even pay heed to re-deployment, I need restart the server
    7) I work only 7 hrs a day (1 hr-lunch)! 7*60=420 mins.... lets say I make code changes 10 times a day 10*20(200) half day
is gone in just restarting server/redeploying changes.
    8) So frustrating..... !!!
    Que:
    1) Is the developer is supposed to imagine all the errors beforehand and code so that he wont waste time in restarting?
    2) How nice it would be that you just recompile the changes and you get to see your changes just by refresh...
that is why pl/sql development is so fast.
    3) Is there any way to do it like that? or Are there are any quick tricks or precautions to avoid restarting the server.
    4) Am I not following the correct development/deployment methods?
It will be really great help for me if you experts guide me on the practise you follow for restarting/redeploying.
    Thanks
    Rahul

Rahul, please tell us your jdev version!
    1) this always helps!  In the old days you only compiled once a day and if the compiler found an error you had to wait a whole day until you got the next chance.  Do feel privileged that you can compile multiple times. A restart is not nessecary in every case, but depending on the version you hit to restart more often.  You should try to find out why it takes so long and minimize this time!  Using 11.1.1.7.0 i start my server in less then a minute.
    2) answer depends on the jdev version, but you don't get the speed of pl/sql for wenn application development.
    3) one thing to do is to define the jdbc connections used in the server or then use jndi to access the resource. This way you don't lose a minute or connection stopping the server.  Next it's best to keep the server as clean as possible. Read the log when the server starts and stops you get plenty of info what takes how long.  Then start optimizing.
    4) no, your method is ok.

  • Clustered enviroments -Starting/Stopping Managed servers, NodeManager & Admin server from single node

    Hi,
We have 5 node Weblogic cluster. At the time of some mass activities like patching we have to stop all our managed, Admin Servers and node manager and it takes a lot of time to do this by logging in to all 5 managed servers and stopping all components. Though we have node manager configured so we can stop managed servers from console itself, but still have to login to each server to stop NodeManager and Oracle Http Servers.
Things become worse when wee have to shutdown almost 15-20 instances.
Is there a way (using wlst or shell script) that we can do all these tasks from by logging in to just one server?
    Thanks,
    Suraj

The simple code below would shutdown all the running Servers. Some of the APIs for ex MBeanHome are deprecated..still work though..if your concerned about that..I am working on the same using JMX API..if you want I could share that too. And also as described in the below link..you can Cluster stop and start using WLST commands.  Managing the Server Life Cycle - 12c Release 1 (12.1.1)

  • SLD server has stopped; start the SLD server in Administration

I am trying to configure Technical Systems in SLD (for deploying a webdynpro application which has models). Logged in as Administrator. I see this message when I login from the portal (https://host:port/sld):
"SLD server has stopped; start the SLD server in Administration." And all the links are greyed out.
When I log in to the Visual Admin, services->Sld->and tested the connection (with same ID as Administrator), I see "connection test failed CIMClientObject"
What ID, password should I be using for testing the connection for SLD in visual Admin. Or is this related to ID password at all.
    Thanks
    Srinivas

    Thanks for the replies!
I still have the same problem.
When I select the SLD Data Supplier under services in Visual Admin, I see an error on the task bar at the bottom: SLD_Collector_Task
When I open this item, I see the following error message:
"2008.12.10@10:51:20: HTTP call failed: Failed to send HTTP data: 503 : Service Unavailable. Please check if the target SLD system is available and the SLD bridge is started there"
Is this something related to SLD configuration.
    Thanks
    Srinivas

  • HostXYZ.cacheserver - Crystal Reports Cache Server: Failed to start/stop

    Hi,
We are  unable to  open any of the BO Crystal Reports through our 'Clarity PPM Web Application'.When we logged on to the BO CMC portal in the production environment, In the 'Servers' section, we could see the 'HostXYZ.cacheserver in 'Stopped' state. When we are trying to restart that server, it results in an error "HostXYZ.cacheserver - Crystal Reports Cache Server: Failed to start/stop".Could you please help me how to proceed further? Please let me know, if you need any other information.
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

WHich version of BO do you use? Go into the CMC navigate to Servers and check the Metrics section of your Central management server. There should be a version number like x.y.z.w there. Can you please post it here?

  • Server start or server stop sometimes hands

If I try to delete the server because its not responding to a stop then that does not work too.
I deleted the server entry in the server.xml, and this removed the server however I may have screwed something up by doing that!
Why do I do when the server start sort of hands at around 23%, this is on a new server with nothing published as yet...
Also it is picking up jrockit to start and stop, even after I set eclipse up with 1.5 vm.... Anyway around other than modifying setDomainEnv.cmd ?
Thankyou, (I WILL get this thing to work for me. The productivity boost is so very tantalizing!)

The VM used to start weblogic is irrelevant to the VM used with Eclipse.
Set JAVA_VENDOR=Sun in setDomainEnv.cmd to use Sun JDK.
To troubleshotting the server stop problem,
    try manually run [domian]/bin/stopWebLogic.cmd
    see any difference.

  • How to Start/Stop from Server Manager

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to start/stop/restart my coldfusion servers from server manager.  I have seen the instruction at this link:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Admin/WSfd7453be0f56bba4-2a6b48f122a6582c7f-7ff e.html
However it mentions "place the jrunappstartup.war file under the directory <CF_Home>/runtime/servers/admin"
I do not know where to get this file from.  Please help!
    I am running ColdFusion standalone.
    Any help is much appreciated,
    Thanks,
    David

An update to eariler posting. Configure CF9 Enterprise multiserver.
Likewise unable to find jrunappstartup.war file mentioned.
If I follow the instructions and try configure the SM Start Stop Details the Start Stop Restart
does not become an highlighted option.
Here are a couple screen cuts for interested readers-
Start Stop Details (are these correct Jrun items to fill in?):
