Logging the system  boot log

Hi all,
I have 2 systems A,B. I want to log the reboot log of system B on system A.
How can I achieve this thru CLI ?
Mostly I am looking for a non-interactive script which will do this for me,everytime I wanted to reboot system.
Regards,
~

Hi,
What’s your OS version you are using? If it’s Windows Server 2003, please try to install the hotfix below to see if it could resolve the issue. As it mentioned, the issue may be caused not
only by the disk larger than 1TB, but also by other factors.
"The Operation Did Not Complete" Error Message When You Try to Convert a Hard Disk to a Dynamic Disk

Hope it helps.

  • Can a Security Banner / Disclaimer be displayed when the system boots?

We have a number of OS 9.x Macs in the company and we have now been requested to display a security banner on every PC/Mac (basically along the lines of "...to continue using this computer, you must abide by the rules laid down in the company's security policy. Click OK to continue..."
Is there a method of displaying such a message while the computer's starting up - perhaps some utility is available for such a task?
Even a message displayed on the screen, which the user has to click to remove, would be useful...
    Any information would be appreciated.

    Mark,
Excellent news. It'll work fine on OSX PPC Macs too. On these the startup folder is in /Library/StartupItems.
There's also a folder in /System/Library/StartupItems but this really is just for OS purposes, so don't use it.
I'm unsure as to whether it works on Intel Macs. In general it should, but the "with icon 2" bit refers to a resource number, which might be non-existent on Intel.
As for jazzing it up, for three lines, this is as good as it gets. If you want more, corporate logos, paragraphs of text that no-one ever reads, then we're going to need a bigger script. And it would almost definitely require some prep work on each Mac that would display the dialog box, putting the graphic in place and probably the text of the message too. Bigger fonts might be a bit more difficult without also some tweaking of each Mac.
There's an Applescript forum here http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=724 , I'm sure if you asked there on how to develop the script they'd help. Of all the forums I use here, I find the AppleScript forum users the most knowledgeable.
If you get some good tips, post back here to let us know how you get on.

  • How do I change which programs start when the system boots up?

I want to delete a program from the start up sequence so that the program does not start up automatically.  Suggestions!

System Preferences - Users and Groups - Login Items - highlight the one you don't want to start up and hit the minus sign.

  • 2008R2 Domain - Recently started receiving the old EventID 8003 Bowser in the System Log - Any ideas?

    Hi All,
I've "googled" this to death and noted the registry keys that are associated with the "Computer Browser Service."
    On the PDC:
    IsDomainMaster = TRUE
    MaintainServerList = Auto
On one of the Workstations noted in the EventID Logs:
    MaintainServerList = Auto
There is no "IsDomainMaster" key on the Workstation.
In addition, I've looked for the "browstat.exe" utility, but after my google searches, it turns out that tool has been deprecated for 2008R2 and Win7.  Our entire company is on Win7...
From what I've read, the logged 8003 messages are no big deal, but it seems odd that all of a sudden, late May, I started receiving these messages and I'm trying to retrace my steps.  The DCs had not been patched at that time.
    Thank you for your time,
    Mr Mister

    We can close this question.
From an elevated prompt, I ran 'fsutil resource setautoreset true' and attempted to remove the files with .blf and regtrans-ms file extensions from C:\Windows\System32\config\TxR. but these files were locked by system processes. (They are also
tagged with the hidden file attrib so you may not see them at first)
So, I booted the system with a Windows 2008 R2 Install Disk, selected repair OS and selected the command prompt. I then performed a chkdsk /f c: and selected "Y" to unmount the drive. It made some repairs.
With the system booted from the install disk, and chkdsk executed, the locks were freed and I was able to delete the files from C:\Windows\System32\config\TxR.
Once the system rebooted, the services came back fine and everything was back to normal.

  • Windows 7 only gives me active USB ports when the DISABLE DRIVER SIGNATURE ENFORCEMENT is selected during system boot

I can only use the computer if I press 8 and select "DISABLE DRIVER SIGNATURE ENFORCEMENT". Without this, the system comes up OK but I do not have access to the keyboard and mouse. If I select any other boot option the system boots up but I am
unable to login since neither the keyboard nor the mouse is working.
The Device Manager is clean. All drivers work and have digital signatures. I tried to use local group policy editor to disable digital signature enforcement but was not able to make any difference. The OS is 64-bit Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack
    1 and latest updates.
The system includes a WD USB 3.0 card, which I have been using for over 3 years without any problem. I recently (3 days ago) updated the WD SmartWare for Windows software. It seems that my problem coincides with this update. Since then, I removed WD SmartWare
and Installation software and restored the Registry to its previous restore point however the problem still exists.
As per SIGVERIF the not signed drivers are:
    difxapi.dll              7/13/2009      2.1.0.0          Not Signed
    usbccgp.sys              9/4/2013       6.1.7601.18251      Not Signed

    usbuhci.sys              9/4/2013       6.1.7601.18251      Not Signed
The problem appears to be related to the not signed USB drivers.
The current USB 3.0 host controller is from Renesas Electronics (ver. 2.1.39.0). According to the Device Manager it is digitally signed and working fine.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    DC

This issue was fixed on my PC as follows.
    1) Taking ownership of the above usb*.sys files in  the drivers folder
    2) renaming them to usb*.sysold
    3) Using Device Manager to uninstall all USB devices with the yellow warning ! next to them
    4) Doing a Scan for Hardware changes via the Device Manager toolbar and then waiting a few moments whilst the USB devices are re-installed with signed drivers.
    Hope this helps you....

  • The boot selection failed because a device is inaccessible, not the usual boot error though?? (0xc000000e)

    Hey,
I need some help fast please. I recently booted up my gaming rig after swapping out a 7970 graphics card and upon system boot up, as the windows 7 logo appeared the system crashes and a BSOD appears for a split millisecond and I'm asked to start up repair windows
or start windows normally however when I click start up repair a black error screen appears with the following message and error: The boot selection failed because a device is inaccessible error state and an error code:0xc000000e. Now of fixed this before
multiple times except this instance nothing seems to work Ive tried the following:
    - check for any unplugged or loose cables
    - Re installed my ram
    - Booted with on board graphics
    - unplugged all usb devices and external devices with the exception of the keyboard and mouse
    - Booted with system installation disc and attempted system repair several times only with the same outcome of wanting to restore from a previous system restoration point however it always fails
    - changed the boot type to IDE which made the system boot furhter past the logo screen however it still crashes with the same error
    - From the system installation disc I ran a chkdsk /f and no corruptions or bad sectors were found
However, I did run from the installation disc a "bcdedit" and my osdevice was  unkown and my boot manager and boot loader were set to two different drives on being D: and the other being C:. So I re-linked all three back to the D: drive as the
windows installation disc says thats where Windows 7 is installed, although in the actual windows 7 My Computer its listed as C: drive which is weird? anyways after re-linking them using bcdedit /set {default} osdevice partition=D: and the other two commands
my recovery partition disappeared  which was listed as C:, and now I can only see my local drive? That did not fix the error so I tried one last thing and ran another chkdsk D: /f /r which is taking for ages and I'm assuming my hard drive and its contents
are still intact ( thank god!!) because its taking so long and there are 612080 files to be processed!
I thought I might try and rebuild Master Boot Record?
I don't want to loose any of my data, well I hope I haven't lost any because I have over 150+ games and their saves :(
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated :D
    thanks guys!

    Hi,
Repair the current OS using the Windows 2008 / 7 DVD:
    Boot to the Windows DVD
Select Next > Repair your computer
    Select Next > Command Prompt
    Change directory (cd) to x:\Sources\recovery
then type Startrep.exe to launch a quick automated startup repair utility which corrects boot environment values. This step may require more than one attempt and should be repeated a couple of times if the first repair fails.
If step 3 fails, open the command prompt and type bcdedit This
will display the values for Windows Boot Manager.
Review the values for Device. Is it set to unknown, as shown below? If so, proceed to step 7.
At the command prompt, type the following commands (c: is the default system partition. If your original partition was another drive letter, this value can be set to that drive letter):
    bcdedit
    /set {DEFAULT.EN_US} device partition=c:
    (press enter)
    bcdedit
    /set {DEFAULT.EN_US} osdevice partition=c:
    (press enter)
    bcdedit
    /set {BOOTMGR.EN_US} device partition=c:
    (press enter)
Reboot the system after removing the OS disk.
    Hope it helps,
    Jan

  • How should I add a new physical network interface to the system?

    Hello:
I am about to test my own NIC driver.
I have used add_drv to add my driver.
I have assigned an IP address to the sytem in the /etc/hosts file and corresponding network mask in the /etc/netmasks file, too.
But when I tried to ping this IP address, it reported an error message saying"ICMP Host Unreachable from gateway localhost .....".
I wonder if the system knows this physical network address.
Does this have something to do with the /etc/hostname.* file?
If this is the case, what should I name the "*" part of this file?
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Steven

    Hello Shridhar:
    Thanks for your kindly reply.
I just noticed that the system would try to plumb the interface during the booting process but failed with a error saying "ifconfig:plumb:XXXX:Bad file number", where XXXX is the * part of /etc/hostname.*
Does not mean I have assigned a illegal interface name to this interface?
It seems that man page doesn't contain any information about error messages.
I use the form XXX0, where XXX is the name of the NIC driver.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Steven
You should plumb the interface and bring it up with
the ifconfig command. Do a man on ifconfig for more
details. What was the add_drv command used ? Based on
your driver's name, you can setup the hostname.*
file's name to automatically setup and initialize the
NIC inetrface everytime the system boots up.

My story in a nutshell - bought the original (non B3) P67A-GD65 from Newegg on the first day it was available along with 8 GB (2X4 GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 ram and Intel i5 2500k processor.  Received the items, hooked them up on a test bench (rubber mb supports so no grounding issues) along with a Corsair VX-550 P/S (both 24 pin and 8 pin leads plugged in), GTX-460 video card (2 PCI-E 6 pin connectors plugged in), the default Intel i5 heatsink and a known good USB KB and mouse.  Promptly experienced the infinite loop boot issue others have described - fans on h/s and video card spin up, 1st APS LED lights for a fraction of a second then all 6 light up for 3 to 4 seconds then APS LEDs go out and fans on h/s and video card spin down.  No beeps from speaker and no video signal to monitor.  After everything has stopped spinning (about 3 to 4 seconds), the power comes back on and the cycle repeats exactly the same way every time until I turn off the power supply.  Here is what I tried:
    1.  Used only 1 stick of ram (tried in all 4 slots)
    2.  Pulled 1 stick of DDR3-1600 ram from my working X58 system (again tried in all 4 slots)
    3.  Different power supply (OCZ 520-ADJ)
    4.  Known good PCI video card instead of GTX-460 (in case there was some problem with power draw)
Under each of these changes, the same infinite boot loop occurred.  Called tech support, they walked me through each step I had already tried and finally suggested I RMA both the MB and the CPU to Newegg.  Did so and the replacements worked fine from the start.
Then came the B2 stepping issue.  Notified both Newegg and MSI that I had one of the B2 boards.  Newegg notified me they had the new B3 boards in stock.  Arranged for cross shipment where they would ship me the new board and then I would return the old one.  Received the new one last Friday.  Put it on the same test bench as above and the same infinite boot loop is now happening on the new B3 stepping board.  Just to test, put the cpu, ram and GTX-460 video card back into the B2 stepping board and everything works perfectly.
Another test, since some people reported the infinite loop problem when they had failed to plug in the 8 Pin power lead to the mb, I unplugged the 8 pin connector on the working B2 stepping board.  The infinite loop problem is entirely different in this case.  When you press the power switch, the fans start to spin and the first LED lights for less than a second.  Then the LED goes off and the fans start to spin down.  After everything has stopped, it repeats until the power supply is turned off.
This is my first MSI motherboard after 15 years of Abit and Asus with the occasional Gigabyte or EVGA thrown in and I am not happy with the QC I have experienced with this board!
So to summarize, 2 of the 3 P67A-GD65 boards I received from Newegg have had this infinite boot loop problem.  Apparently, I have to RMA again.  Am I lucky or what???!!!

If it was the chipset causing this problem, it seems it would be a widespread complaint among all vendors.  I have looked at the Asus and Gigabyte boards and do not see this particular problem described and certainly not multiple users reporting the same problem.  I am giving up on this and will arrange an RMA and will see if I can talk Newegg into an Asus board for only the price difference.  MSI has a very good reputation in the industry, but it has been a disaster for me!!!
    Thanks for your replies,
    Monte
Frankly, I can understand your frustrations on the problem but it is not fair to judge a brand by looking at the number of complains in a forum. I can guarantee you, there are more RMAs out there from all other manufacturers even before an user even knows that a Forum ever exist for them to post for enquiry and most of them aren't an IT engineer or hardware engineer by self.
If you want to compare, I have also been in this industry for more than 15 years and I have many DOA boards from other manufacturers as well and DOAs after RMAs are common to me. When you handle thousands of PCs, laptops and mainframes, such things are really common.
Back to your problem. Maybe I didn't make it clear on how I want to describe on my previous post for your issue in words. I am referring to having a chance to let the system boot into BIOS or past BIOS after multiple times of rebooting, then you can try to flash the BIOS. This is also not uncommon as I have encountered systems which are problematic but are able to boot into Windows after 15 to 20 times of infinite reboots by itself.
How about processor? Tested it in another system yet? Or is this another unless suggestion to you?

  • Colour depth decreases on system boot

I've had my Intel Mini for about a year and have used it with a 32" LG screen (32LX2R-ZJ) since purchase. As of one of the most recent software updates the screen is set to a very low colour depth (16 colours ish) every time the system boots.
Changing the settings in the display doesn't help at all. The display correctly changes itself when using 256 colours but not on "thousands" or "millions".
I can correct the issue by rotating the screen in any direction and then reverting back to the original orientation. This just seems like a crazy thing to have to do to get a machine to boot as expected...
I'd appreciate any pointers anyone may have.

This appears to have resolved the issue on restarting the system. I guess I must have accidentally moved this slider while looking through the system settings.
It doesn't explain how rotating the display twice "fixes" (or reverts) the changes made. That's a matter for a dev team if they ever want to bother looking into it though.
    Many thanks for the help,
    Duncan.

  • Understanding the system log (boot time 2 minutes)

    Dear Apple Discussion,
I am trying to read the system.log correctly - mainly because my boot time is 2 minutes.
I have read that the beginning of the boot up is indicated by the line:
localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
    is this correct?
    Next, does the line:
loginwindow[165]: Login Window Started Security Agent
indicate that the login window has come up?
If both of these are correct then my boot time should be 18s (according to the time stamps in the log) - it defefinitely is not that.
Does the boot process start instead at this line:
    shutdown: reboot by root:
If this were the case, the boot time would be closer to 2 minutes according to the log (which is what it actually is).
This then brings up the next problem: the two minutes basically come from the following line:
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt shutdown: reboot by root:
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt SystemStarter[177]: authentication service (194) did not complete successfully
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : unloading cisco ipsec kernel module.
    Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : detaching from interface: en1.
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : interface en1, filter has been safely detached.
    Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : detaching from interface: en0.
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : interface en0, filter has been safely detached.
Nov 29 17:32:12 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
ending line of the boot process occurs at (if my above assumption is correct):
Nov 29 17:32:31 Purrfekt loginwindow[165]: Login Window Started Security Agent
So why does it hang for so long at this one process? Am I reading the log incorrectly? I have searched around here and also on google ("slow boot time", "cisco vpn tiger", etc..) but haven't found anything relating to my problem.
    Thanks for any help.

    v.1 PowerBook G4 15''   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I am trying to read the system.log correctly - mainly because my boot time is 2 minutes.
It appears to be that a restart or shutdown process delays nearly 2 minutes rather than a startup process, presumably due to one of WindowServer children or a bug stays in Mac OS X 10.4.3 Update-- Mine delays approximately 30 - 40 minutes on PowerMac G5 2.7 Ghz on every shutdown or restart process. Your computer is PowerMac G4 so that make sense. I found a suspect application which is a security related. Although I am still investigating further because the issue does not occur on the lower drive bay where I install another Mac OS X 10.4.3 Update (but no third-party software) as a test facility.
localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
This is correct and the first line to display sequential events in a boot process.
loginwindow[165]: Login Window Started Security Agent
This is also a normal behavior.
SystemStarter[xxx]: authentication service (xxx) did not complete successfully
This can be displayed depending on a computer configuration.
A sequential event from CiscoVPN: unloading cisco ipsec kernel module to CiscoVPN: interface en0, filter has been safely detached seems to be all right if you PROPERLY configure VPN policy and IPsec (Internet Protocol Security) authenticate, etc for your Cisco device. IPsec is a framework for a set of protocols for security at the network or packet processing layer of network communication.
I suggest to check all related settings with Netwrok/Sharing panes and the router configurations for VPN (IPsec), IPv6, security, etc. Also check routing table and all socket connections after you launch Network Utility or via Terminal commands.
FYI: interface en0 is a wired connection and interface en1 is a wireless connection such as AirPort. IPsec kernel module is a unit of kernel program or componet for IPsec.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where is the start/boot information log of systemd?

    system: Arch Linux 3.7 kernel
    init: systemd
    Hello, friends.
I saw there are some warning informations flash by screen when the system start.Due to the screen refresh so fast I didn't see the details information.
I have used dmesg to check the information but seems to have no. I think it is systemd proprietary informations.
I have searched /var/log but there is no useful information.
Where is the start/boot information stored?

  • Message:You are already logged on to the system in the following sessions

    Hi Experts,
We are implementing SAP SRM7.0 with Portal integration.
After logging in when we click on the shop link , it is taking us to the new screen and getting message saying "You are already logged on to the system in the following sessions"
and also providing the details of the user.
This is happening for all the users created in portal.
can someone help me to resolve the issue.it would be really appreaciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Prashanth P.

    Hi Prashanth,
You can enable multiple login in two ways.
    goto SICF and open service.
1.Navigate to default_host->sap->bc->bsp->sap->srm(double click on srm service)
2.Open Error Pages tab and clcik on Configuration button.
3.Check whether check for multiple logon is enabled.
    or
    goto RZ10
To allow the user to have multiple login in SAP R/3, one have to set the Profile Parameters u201CLogin/disable_multi_gui_loginu201D OR u201CLogin/multi_login_usersu201D.
    1. Login/disable_multi_gui_login
Controls whether multiple logins are enabled or disabled. 0 = enable 1 = disable
    2. Login/multi_login_users
Here a list [user IDs] can be deposited that would allow users a multiple login even though the multi login is generally disabled. The multiple login information are stored in the table URSR41_MLD.
Note: Select extented administration and clcik display. this is the place to maintain parameters.

Any idea what is wrong with this server? Why this event is occurring?

    Hi Jitender KT,
Before going further, would you please let me know the complete error message that you can find (such as a
screenshot if you can provide)? Please check and confirm in Event Viewer if there other related event you can find, such as Event 57 and so on. Meanwhile, can you remember what operations you have done before the warning occurred?
Based on current message that you provided, please run
Chkdsk command to check if you can find error. The issue seems to be related to the storage device. Please refer to the following similar question.
