Logic 9 app & The new slim imac

I'm not the most technical out there but I'm here to make phat beats. I'm thinking of buying the latest imac:
21"
2.7 quadcore i5
16gb 1600mhz DDR£ SDRAM
1TD Serial ATA Drive @ 5400rpm
applecare
I'll also get the Logic 9 app but from reading some reviews and forums a lot of people are having problems getting it to work properly.
Is there anyone who is using this set up succsessfully? I'm currently using an old macbook white which struggles like **** but always pulls through. I'd hate to have to spend well over £1000 and not be able to use it.

I'll answer a couple of these and let others chime in.
In my opinion... you don't want to use built-in Mac audio output/iMac speakers for anything remotely resembling professional work. You have some pro equipment you need a pro or semi-pro audio interface with multiple ins/outs. You already have a MIDI interface so you're ok there.
Apple no longer sells "hard copy" software, most of the Logic 9 boxes have been removed from the shelves.
You will have to purchase from the App store.
Read this post to see what is, and what isn't included.

Don't bother downloading anything on the iPad that would be a wasted effort.
Hope you have a fast connection, Logics additional content is many, many gigs of data.
Amazed that you have Nuendo at school, it's both expensive and impressive, it is a recent version?

Well, I'm not sure how anything can fit into a 5 mm depth, so I can see why they've removed the CD drive -  there probably wouldn't be enough room for the laser, LOL. Can't imagine speakers, hard drive (of any flavor), logic board and so on and so forth. Fortunately, my iMac has Applecare through early 2015 so I'm set for a while; I may check out a Mini at that point - saw that it is configurable with a fusion drive, which would make it interesting for me.

  • Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

I just bought the 17" MacBookPro the other day with Lion preinstalled and wanted to install Lion on my iMac. It makes sense that I should be able to upgrade for free you spend all this money on Apple products, give us apple supporters a break. Maybe this is something that Apple overlooked and in the future there will be a fix.
I read up on forums and I finally called AppleCare they said that I should be able to install Lion on 5 other computers but only if purchased in the store, this doesn't make any sense. I feel like I already purchased a copy and that copy should be able to be installed on another computer. It should be as simple as logging in app store with the same apple ID and it be there to install on my iMac. If apple is trying to make everything user friendly, device syncying and convenient well it's not; this is just something they think of. I refuse to pay $30 for another copy. Fix this issue APPPLE!!!
Because if those who bought computers in July that didn't have Lion preinstalled can obtain a free copy to install in 5 computers. I should be able to do the same with the Lion that I bought preinstalled it's just make sense to me.

I have been through it again and at the end it came up with the error:

  • Using FCP 7 - Can I connect two more displays to the new 27" iMac and have one as a display monitor?

I use Final Cut Pro 7 right now and am thinking about buying the new 27" iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5 card. I have a 24" Apple Cinema Display with mini Display port cable. I also have one more Samsung display with DVI & HDMI. Can I connect both monitors to the iMac and be able to use one in FCP as a display monitor?

    Hello,
Maybe a device like the Targus USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Dual Video Adapter or StarTech USB 3.0 to HDMI an DVI Dual Monitor External Video Card Adapter would work?

  • Apple aware of video problem in the new Intel iMacs

    Macworld Daily News
    Thursday - February 09, 2006
Apple investigates Intel iMac Front Row problems
    By Macworld staff
Apple has confirmed it is aware of, and investigating, reports of video problems in the new Intel iMacs.
Recent reports claimed that some users had experienced random horizontal lines and other video playback problems when playing video in Front Row.
"Apple is aware of this issue and is looking into it," the company said in an email to a web-based pressure group that has been gathering information on the problem. "If a customer has any technical issues, they should contact AppleCare."
    The problem is allegedly software-based.

"Sure, I'd be more understanding had it been an issue that required a very special set of conditions to trigger"
Apparently it does as this issue is not affecting all users.
"As I was told, affected owners would not be proactively notified"
Where you you prefer them to use their limited resources, trying to figure out who MAY be affected and sending them some sort of detailed action plan, or spending the resources determining the cause of the issue and developing a solution that can be distributed to the ones who need it not only now, but those that may discover the issue next week?
I can understand that you are frustrated, and don't blame you for feeling that way, but this is an all new piece of technology and bugs are going to come up that were missed in testing. No company can afford to test at a 100% level. To do so would drive the costs so high as to make it impossible to sell the product, especially to the market the iMac is aimed at. Apple has a pretty darned good track record of resolving issues quickly when they appear. Until they do you only have a few choices. Use the workaround until the solution appears, waste time complaining about it, or sell the iMac and purchase a different product. That's really about all you can do!
It was good of you to spend your valuable time, and yes it is valuable, trying to help the engineers or service reps solve the issue. That they spent that much time with you should show their commitment to solving this issue.
Be patient, give them a chance, they have not had long to try and figure this out.

  • Will the new (thin) iMacs have a VESA mount kit?

Will the new (thin) iMacs have a VESA mount kit?
I have my current iMac mounted on the wall, on an arm. It's the perfect setup for me. Will I be able to upgrade and keep this setup?

Looking through the tech specs, I couldn't find any mention of a mount:

  • What firewire chipset is shipping in the new 3Ghz imacs?

Given the known issues with the Agere/Lucent FW chipset (rendering a lot of firewire audio interfaces useless) I was wondering if the new 3ghz imacs are now shipping with the TI (Texas Instruments) Firewire chipset. Does anyone know?
I believe if you hold down command-s while booting you can read this info off the screen. If anyone with one of these new imacs could confirm which chipset it ships with, I'd appreciate it. And if it's the TI, I'll finally order one. Thanks.

I have the 3.06 GHz model and it came with an Intel E8435 processor.

I'll look some more for the FW info.

  • Has anyone used the new 5K imac with AE CC and is it a big improvment speed wise or not?

I am thinking about getting the 5K imac with the i7 4.4 GHz quad-core and AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5, but my big concern is that the video card is not Nvidia and does not use cuda core.
I currently have a late 2012 imac with the 3.4 Intel Core i7 and a Nvidia GeFroce GTX 680MX 2048 MB and sometimes it is very slow when working with a lot of effects or layers.
    1. If you have any experience with the 5K imac, please let me know how you like it?
    2. Was Apple going to the AMD video card a good or bad thing?
    3. Do you think I would benefit any speed gain with the new 5K imac and by what percentage.

The AMD video card is not a good hardware selection with the current media content creation software. Open CL is still lagging behind CUDA in performance and the CPU's did not change with the new Imac. So basically it's a new Imac with a updated video card and 5K screen. Not something I would suggest for Adobe if you already have an Nvidia solution.

  • Has anyone seen the new 2012 iMac in any Apple stores yet?

I was told by an Apple store employee that they would have the new 2012 iMac's in the Apple stores with-in a few days of their launch announcement, back in late October .... here it is late November and the new 2012 iMac's are not yet in the Apple store, for display purposes, here in Rochester, NY.
Last night I was again at the Apple store here in Rochester, and asking about the new iMacs. one of the employees now says they "may be out in December" some time.
I'm very disapponted as a loyal Mac user for over twenty years (and even as an Apple investor). that Apple is announcing the launch of these new products, and then taking months for these products to show up for sale.
I'm starting to think that it won't be until late January that I can actually be able to purchase one of the new 2012 21.5" iMacs ..... i've been waiting years to get a new "antiglare" iMac.
Has any one actually seen one of the new 21.5" 2012 iMacs in one of their local Apple stores, on display yet?

    UPDATE: Dec. 6, 2012
I was just over at the local Apple store loking at the new 21.5" iMac, and to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. I have been waiting for over a year to upgrade my Mac, and had high expectations for the new 2012 iMac's .... but seeing and playing with one in the store .... the new one's may not be for me.
Most of all I wanted to believe all the talk about 75% less reflections in the new iMac display, but while in the Apple store, I saw no real difference over the previous model ... and if so, it was more like 25% less reflections. Nothing that dramatic, certainly not like the "anti-glare" screens available in the 2011 MacBook Pro. Basically, my understanding is that the new 2012 iMac's use the SAME DISPLAY as the previous iMac models did. It's the LG "LM215WF3" display, same as those in the 2009-2011 iMac displays. The only difference in the 2012 display, is that they took out the small space between the outer glass and the actual screen surface to get the overall display thinner. It still has the basic "glossy glass" cover screen.
The other disappointment was the extremely poor audio sound from the new iMac's built-in speakers. They just sounded so "tinny", even when playing with multiple iTunes "equalizer" settings. Again, disappointing.
Looks like I'll have to research the possibility of buying a Mini-Mac and an older Apple 20" cinema display off eBay. Or pick up a late model 2011 iMac and get the Rad-Tech "anti-glare" screen film for the display (Ugh!).
Being a graphic designer and art director in profession, I just can't understand why Apple has abandoned the "professional" market for these glossy displays in it's iMac line .... or at least STILL hasn't given us an option for a true "anti-glare" display.
Is it just me, or are my observations on the new 2012 iMac being seen the same by others as well?

  • Upgrading hard disk in the new aluminum iMacs

Hi all. Is a hard disk upgrade on the new aluminum iMacs something that a seasoned computer geek can do by his/her-self at home? Will it void the Apple warranty if it's not done by a certified specialist?
I want to pick up a new 20" iMac, and I'm having a hard time deciding whether I need to get a big disk now or if I can upgrade at home, on my own, down the road.
I did some research (on this site) on upgrading the hard disk in the last rev of iMacs, and it looks pretty simple. I also noticed that, according to Apple, as long as you adhere to their procedure (only touch the brass colored screws!) you are well within your rights under the warranty to replace the hard disk.
I could not find out if this policy was the same for the new aluminum models. Does anyone have an answer? I don't NEED a 500 or 750GB internal hard disk right now... but I'm sure I will WANT one at some point not too far down the road.
    Thanks!

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=350120&highlight=iMachard+driveupgrade
Apple can't legally "void" your warranty for just opening the cabinet. They can refuse to cover any damage you do -- but unrelated failures are still covered. Apple doesn't own the warranty -- you paid for it, and under US law, they are required to honor it.

  • Tactile response of the new slim aluminium keyboard

Those who have the new slim aluminium keyboard may please share their experience on the feel of this new keyboard for tuch typing. The keys are different from teh previous Apple keyboard. I am used to the old kyboard, where the keys go some disatnce down while typing.

Hi! It depends on what you like. If you like your keyboard, and the keys going down, you won't like the new one. But if you prefer a laptop kind of keyboard, more silent and less distance down while typing, the new one is for you
I've used both of them, and I definitely love the new one, it feels really soft and I type much more quickly... but as I said before, it depends on what kind of keyboard you like.
