Logic is randomly creating fades..............
hi,
crazy annoying problem. I notice that when I start editing audio in logic, copying and pasting, dragging audio around in the arrange window, Logic starts to create fades, even when the regions are not touching. Also, Logic will play audio that is not in the arrange window. In other words, It will play an entire audio file even though that file has been cut or shortened in the arrange window. Needless to say, I have audio playing all over the place that shouldn't be there, and fades messing up levels of audio because of the random places Logic is placing these fades. Very strange. I can work around it by creating alot of audio tracks and just moving the copied files to separate tracks, but in some cases, the extra audio will still play. The only real workaround thus far has been to delete the file that's acting strange, and re-insert it directly from my audio window. Then Logic seems to deal with it properly.
Crazy. Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED.
thanks
that's interesting. Here's an example of what I'm doing. Let's say I sang 10 leads vocals of a chorus, and then I created one "comp" of the "best of" each take. Now I have one chorus, on one track with a bunch of regions, some overlapping, but some don't overlap. Now..... if I select that entire chorus, which will include ALL of the new regions I put together, in other words, the "comp", and click/hold/and drag to another location, shouldn't that "comp" look exactly the same no matter where I put it on the arrange page? And shouldn't it sound exactly the same way? I've been using Logic for many years, left for a while because I had just bought a dual opteron [that's for another post ;)] and have been using Cubase sx, Nuendo, and sonar for the past few years. I'm thinking that one thing that has never changed in any of these programs is that U can cut audio regions, or make them smaller, and U should hear what U see on the arrange page. I'm also thinking that when U select/click/hold whatever key that particular program uses for copying/and then drag, U should be able to move that particular part that U just selected, anwhere in your arrangement. this is real basic stuff here. I'm just thinking that this is a bug, but now that I think I explained it more clearly, I'm also thinking since I haven't been here in Logic for a few years, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I spoke to tech support at Apple, and they had no clue.
they didn't think the behavior was normal.
anyway, lemmeno.
thanks

Logic 9 randomly creating Volume hyperdraw level of -15.4
Hi all
Since I upgraded to Yosemite (yeah I know, terrible move) my Logic Pro 9 is doing the weirdest thing. I hit play on a MIDI track, and almost without fail it creates a Hyperdraw Volume value of -15.4 on the chosen track which I have to manually delete every time. I thought it was something to do with my MIDI keyboard but it's switched off and it just happened again. No other MIDI inputs.
Any idea? Looks like a stupid little bug I guess. It's ALWAYS -15.4.I did that and when trying to install the new one it told me i allready had a newer version installed.
When my friend bought Logic Pro from the app store, he told me there was a long installation process, with entering his name etc, with me it just installed in 3 mins and didnt ask me anything.
Could there be something wrong with the install to begin with?
I am not even able to re-install this Lion in someway, im really stuck..! :/
Dont know if this concept with removing all hardware installation CDs is the perfect one..
Any other suggestions?? -
Can't delete a logical volume group created from a blank disk image
Hi all,
I'm a recent convert from Windows, so do bear with me while I grapple with all the new terminology.
Basically, here's the problem: I've been trying to create an encrypted drive and have been at it for a few hours now. I ended up with two 'logical volume groups' created from blank disk images, neither of which are password-protected, and one of which I quite stupidly named "hidden folder" and can't rename now. Anyways, I decided to throw it all away and start right from scratch, but now disk utility won't let me delete these two logical volume groups despite me dismounting both devices, trying to trash the containing folder, etc. Some searching about online has gotten me into the belief that there should be an 'erase' tab in the disk utility window which is not showing up when I click on those drives (however, the erase tab does appear when I click on the indented partitions on each drive). Here's a screenshot to give you guys an idea:
-Here's the disk utility window. The two drives I'm trying to get rid of are "Hidden Folder" and "HD2"
-Here's what I suppose would be called the 'containing folder' in which both drives reside
-And finally my setup, just in case it's relevant
Oh and btw this would be my first post here! How exciting
Thanks in advance,

That is as it should be. If you select "Move to Trash" does it move the folders to the trash? If so, do the following from my previous post:

1. Open Terminal (in Applications, Utilities).
2. Copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window (or type it exactly as follows):
sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
3. Press Return.
4. Type in your password when asked (note: you will not see anything being entered as you type your password).
5. Hit Return.
6. Wait until the process finishes/the Terminal prompt returns.
7. Quit Terminal.
I wonder if I need to do some changes to the rights about doing this action "move to trash"?
Run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
this is making me very uncomfortable, I know myself to solve any problems I tackle/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Something so simple as this is making me crazy
I don't know if it would make me any crazier than I am, but I sure wouldn't want a stray folder just hanging around on my desktop either. -
When i select the fade tool and try making a fade in a region it doesnt work...also , i saw in a video that you can make fades with the pointer tool by shift+control dragging out of a region creating fades, but this did not work either...why is this happening? is there a setting i have turned off or what? really frustrating.
never mind. apparently you cant fade out midi regions other than using automation

Why Logic create fades while saves
I´m tired of this;
Every time I save, Logic creates or optimizes hte fades and I lose many lots of minutes while this is happenning?
Is ther a way to turn of this message/option. I save almost every movement I do, but now with Flex I can make 2 or 3 editions and lost 3 or 5 minutos while save and logic creates or optimizes the fades.
Any help??Have you considered using inbuilt parallelism support built into Azure storage client library to upload large files or data in parallel? client library takes care of all the corner cases here so you do not have to worry about it. You can get the latest from
nugget here
Here's a sample code snippet on what you would need to do.
// Create an options object that uploads in parallel where parallelism is N (N=8 here) times the number of processor count on the client machine.
var blobRequestOptions = new BlobRequestOptions { ParallelOperationThreadCount = Environment.ProcessorCount * 8 };
// Use options object when uploading a large file
var blockBlob = container.GetBlockBlobReference("largeFileToUpload.txt");
await blockBlob.UploadFromFileAsync(
@"d:\pathToFile\largeFileToUpload.txt",
FileMode.Open,
accessCondition: null,
options: blobRequestOptions,
operationContext: null) -
Compositing: Opacity - randomly making fade ins to clips
I'm on my fifth FCPX project. This one is a simple two camera shoot of an event - a dance competition. I set up my A camera as the primary storyline, my B camera (which I only shot for the actual dances) as b-roll. Not a secondary storyline, per-se.
When it came time for finishing, I wanted to Overwrite to Primary Storyline to simplify. When I did, I found random fade ins appeared all throughout the project. Always fade in, never fade out, and very inconsistent.
Very annoying to have issues like this at the final stage. QCing becomes a nightmare.

...what's the absolute best format to export these intermediate files as full 1920x1080 to avoid as much recompression as possible?
Others have answered your direct question. The implied question is about workflow and how to maintain maximum quality. One way is to avoid making an intermediate.
You don't have to work on your footage in separate projects. You can work on separate sequences inside one project. If you do this, you avoid having to create an intermediate and maintain highest possible quality.
What I've done before in similar situations is to create subclips and then create another sequence and work on those subclips there. The subclips reference the original file non-destructively as is PPro's way, so maximum quality is maintained. When you're done adding titles, transitions, audio work, etc. then you just export this sequence just like you normally do.
PPro is a huge and complex program, and there are usually many ways to accomplish the same task. I'm only bring this up as an alternative way of accomplishing this task on the off chance you hadn't thought of it. Clearly, YMMV. -
How do I use my external MIDI keyboard with Logic 7 and create MIDI data?
I have a Yamaha UX16 cord that goes from the MIDI IN & OUT of my keyboard to a USB jack to plug in my Mac. But I don't know how to set it up so I can record myself playing the keyboard via MIDI and then later switch the sound or instrument in the track.
Hi,
You need to set up your keyboard inside a utility ap. called Audio Midi Setup.
You find it here:
Applications / Utilities / Audio Midi Setup.app
Inside this application you should see your Yamaha UX16 as an interface with ports along the bottom of it. Create a new device and name it whatever your keyboard is named, and cable it to and from the Yamaha UX16.
If you do not see the Yamaha UX16, you need to install it's drivers. Consult your manual / the Yamaha website for details on this.
Once this is accomplished, you will then see the keyboard inside Logic, as a Midi input.
Dont' forget to read this document, to enlighten you as to how Logic works, as it is very different that Garageband:

Creation of logical file while creating APD
Hello,
I am creating an APD in which Multiprovider as source and flat file as the target with some filter in between.
While defining the target as flat file, I have selected application server and logical file name.
Can any one please let me know how to create this file which should be selected from the list of files.
Thanks in advance..Hi,
In order to create a file in the directory, you would need to write a ABAP program from your side.. like OPEN DATASET. or else Basis would help you to create this fro you.
Hope I understood your question...

Finder not working properly, randomly creates a folder called "Name"
Hello,
Finder has all of a sudden started to cause some really odd and sporadic file/folder navigation issues. Whenever I try to access a directory, Finder creates a folder called Name, makes random folders within the directory disappear, or both. It's odd because as soon as I either log out or restart, the problem subsides, but then it comes back -- for no apparent reason. I've taken a look at all of the logs, repaired permissions, verified disks, and dumped the Finder .plist files, but still no remedy. FWIW, this all started happening after updating to 10.7.4.
Someone else posted a very similar thread on this matter, so I know I'm not losing my mind. Is anyone else has the same problem?Demo 92,
I know it has been awhile but did you get any help or find a solution for this? Also, please link the threads you wrote about. I am having this issue as well.

Logic crashes randomly and when saving
Hi,
I hope someone can help, I'm running logic 9 on OSX 10.9.1 2.66 GHz Duo Core with 4 gig of ram.
I've had random crashes occasionally in the past but nothing like this, the situation has got worse over the past week with many random crashes and it also occasionally crashes when I save or bounce. I'm considering a format / re install but would like to avoid that if possible.
There's been no software updates etc recently so am at a loss as to why this should suddenly start happening, bad timing as well as I'm just about to mix a finished track
I've tried deleting my preferences which didnt work and also tried deleting prokit and using Pro kit 7 but get an error message saying you have a newer version installed.
I'll paste the crash log below and really would appreciate any help on a fix!!
Many thanks,
Soul

Logic Will Randomly Lose Phantom Power
I have an Apogee One running into Logic Studio 9. On the Apogee One, I am running and XLR cable to an Apex Microphone, and a 1/4" cable to a guitar (At Different times). When recording either the Guitar, but most commonly with the Phantom Power on the 48V Input, the Microphone will drop out temporarily and not pick up any sound, then slowly it will fade back in. This happens every couple of minutes during a recording. We have already replaced the Apogee One, but the issue still seems to occur.
Any Suggestions?Hi
This sounds like an issue with the audio interface, not Logic. Does the interface work ok on another computer? If it can, run it with a separate power supply, rather than bus-powering from the Mac.

Using logical operators when creating software groups
Is there a way to use simple logical operators when using filters for creating software groups?
An example of what I want to do is to select all updates for the past month - but not include Definition Updates for instance. So all update classifications but NOT definition updates. The '-' trick only works for ADRs to my knowledge.
For searching within the console, anytime you add criteria for the same attribute, it always adds it with an OR. This is a known design shortfall.
For your question specifically though, you need to reverse your thinking and instead of being exclusive, think inclusively. Thus, you can add an attribute multiple times to the search criteria by selecting and adding it multiple times -- once for each
classification that's not definition updates. Then, save the search as pointed out by Torsten.

pls help i am now stuckmattbarszcz wrote:So I went back to the live cd, I ran efibootmgr with no arguments, and sure enough there was only 1 entry for the Windows Boot Manager. It seems that efibootmgr commands don't seem to take effect.
Because of bugs in efibootmgr and/or EFI implementations, efibootmgr doesn't always work. Using bcfg from an EFI shell or bcdedit in Windows can be more effective on some systems. That said, if efibootmgr worked for you before, I'm not sure why it would stop working, or why an existing entry might disappear. (Some EFIs do delete entries that they detect are no longer valid. This shouldn't have happened with a whole-disk dd copy, but if you duplicated the partition table and then used dd to copy partitions, it might well have happened to you. I suppose it's conceivable that the firmware detected the change from one physical disk to another, too, and deleted the original entry because of that change.)
I referenced the rEFInd page here: http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html#windows and followed the procedure to install an entry for rEFInd from Windows. I was able to add an entry no problem through windows.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this doesn't work? Nothing has changed about the system other than the disk.
It's unclear from your post whether the entry you created in Windows now works. If it does, then don't sweat it; just keep using that entry, and if you need to make changes and efibootmgr doesn't work in the future, plan to use either Windows or the bcfg command from an EFI version 2 shell.
