Logon Load Balancing

Hello,
I have installed PI 7.1 on Oracle with an additional application server instance (DI).
In Central Instance I have created two logon groups and in my services file i have added "sapms<SID>    3640/tcp and  sapms<SID>   3642/tcp" of the following Directory "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc". Now I am able to see the created groups in my Logon Pad. i have added CI as PIP1 and DI as PIP2 in my logon pad and can login to the respective server.
Could you please guide if this is sufficient for load balancing.
I have another situation:  Using the logon pad, i will try to login into the Dialog Instance (PIP2). If PIP2 is down, will it direct me to login into Central instance(PIP1)? If not, how to achieve this.
Thanks,
Subbu

Hello Mark,
Why did you use a different system number for the second application server?
My CI number is 40 and my dialog instance number is 42..do i need to change anything whih i have placed in Services file.
Mark, i have stopped the DI and i tried logging into the logon group for DI but it has not directed me to login into CI but inturn has thrown me an error that DI is down.
Please suggest me to achieve the above condition.
Thanks,
Subbu

    Hi,
I am trring to configure logon load balancing in cluster environment.
I had created the logon group using T-Code SMLG and assigned the message server to logon group.
I am using SAP GUI 720.
In the front end system, i had added the host file entry as well as added u201Csapma<SID>  3600/tcpu201D as my CI instance number is 00.
I had created u201Csapmsg.iniu201D and put the entries as below based on sapnote 38119

System ID 1>=<Name or IP address of message server 1>
    Ex: <SID>=x.x.x.x
         <SID>=x.x.x.x
    Message Server Description
    <System ID 1>=<Description of message server 1>
    Ex: <SID>=CI
But while selecting u201CGroup/Server Selectionu201D I am getting error   u201CError: partner x.x.x.x:sapms<SID> not reached u201C.
On the logon pad I had given the following information:
    Description: PRD

  • LOGON LOAD BALANCING WITH THIRD PARTY LOAD BALANCERS

    Hello Everybody,
We would like to implement third party Application Load Balancers for all our Applications including SAP Landscape (HTTP and SAP LOGON).
Could you please indicate which third party load balancers are compatibles with SAP LOGON GROUP LOAD BALANCING ?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Logon Load Balancing error

    Hi
I am trying to setup Logon Load Balancing for our ERP system, I have setup the logon groups in TX SMLG, the landscape consists of DB server app1 and app2, I have created a logon group for app1 and logon group for app2, I have then created a new system entry in the SAP Logon Pad under Group/Server Selection, here I have a problem in that when I enter the message server I get a message saying Error: hostname <message server> unknown, however when I enter the ip address for the message server I get the list of logon groups appear, however, I have entered the sapmsS02 3600/tcp setting within the services file, I have also added the ipaddress and the hostname of the message server into the hosts file, but I still cannot get the hostname to work within the message server.  When I test the logon I get the error message Logon Balancing Error 88: Cannot connect to message server (rc=9), I have searched the net and most people just suggest entering the details into the services file and host file, also a sap note which suggests issues within the registry for Microsft MSN which I have checked and still have the same issue.
Does anyone have anymore ideas as to what this could be or what to try next?
    Thanks for your help
    Jay

    Dear Jay,
It is not the service that can not be resolved, that is translated into an IP address, but the hostname. It depends on your system and the way in which it does hostname resolution, whether the hosts file will be used at all. So please check with the keyword 'hostname resolution' on how to set this up on your landscape.

  • Logon load balancing issue

    Hello Experts,
We are having an issue with our load balancing.
We have 4 app servers ,2 for batch and 2 for dialog.
Dialog are used by SICF service for user to login. But the load is goign to the batch servers as well.Batch servers are running with different logon group and dialog( sicf) with another logon group.
The load is distributed by Webdispatcher to these servers.
Can you please provide some hint whe the load is going to another servers which are not meant to handle dialog requests.
    Regards
    Ajay Sandal

    Hi Ajay,
I suspect your dialog request would be distributing from web-dispatcher.
Web-dispatcher just performs its own function, it would not see if you have configured two as a dialog server and two for batch jobs.
In case WD sees available diag WPs, on any of these servers, it will distribute the request to available ones.
If you want to check the same, then deactivate batch job servers from WD.
For batch job load balancing, I would suggest you to use logon group for batch jobs.
To do the same call transaction SM61 -> Job-servergruppen -> create a logon group and assign batch servers.
In turn to distribute batch jobs, you would need to configure batch servers (created in SM61) while scheduling batch job.
Let me know if this helps, or your observation so that we could provide some more input on this issue.
    Cheers !!!

  • Logon load balance

    Hi,
We have 2 application server at Production environment . When the users try to login and run some loads which is not distributing on bothe systems. Application server shows more memory/cpu utilizations ( where central instance sits) another server could not show more utilization.
Also when we run jon on second app server , job gets fails.
    Did any body have solution.
    - Kristene

    Hi Kristene!
We too see uneven distribution of workload (CI with 8 CPUs + 2 Application Servers with 4 CPUs each), because the load balancing only uses a snapshot of the situation at logon time to decide which server the new user is routed to.
After that, no more load balancing is done. I.e. no move of sessions to idle servers or so... When you happen to get an uneven distribution of "heavy user logons" they can generate a very uneven distribution of server load.
This is not very satisfying. I 'm looking forward to the comments and tips of the gurus.
    Kind regards, Rudi

  • Logon Load Balancing / Configuring Logon Groups problem

    In existing system setting:
One Logon group (PUBLIC) and point to one instances.  This setting is work and SAP LOGON default clinet no is 320.
I try to install one more instances on other server and add to same Logon group (PUBLIC).
    Install compent as below:
SAP ERP 2005 Support Release 2 -> SAP systems -> MS SQL, Server -> High available system -> Base on ABAP System -> Dialog System
The instance has been installed and start and stop this instance is successful.
Add instance into logon group (PUBLIC)
Logon system via logon group, the logon redirect to new instanace server. But the default client no has been changed from 320 to 001. Change client from 001 to 320 and logon. But no response from new instance server.
Any suggestion to solve this problem.
    Thanks!

I found the profile in profile directory as below:
    default.1.pfl
    COQ_D02_BSSPI11   (New Instance)
    START_D02_BSSPI11  (New Instance)
    COQ_DVEBMGS02_bssco11     (existing Instance)
    START_DVEBMGS02_bssco11  (existing Instance)
I strat the new instance and add to Public group and logon successful.
The problem is in transaction RZ10.
I cannot select COQ_D02_BSSPI11  and START_D02_BSSPI11  profile from Profile field.
    how to fix it.

  • Load balancing testing.

    Hi Gurus,
For load balancing purpose we have installed sap in one more box (crm
quality system). now i need to test whether load balancing is
happening or not in below scenarios..
1.) Test the Load balancing on the C.I and D.I.
2.) Take Multiple Logins and compare the Load Balancing
3.) Maintain the Variation of Job such as on-line process and background.
4.) Monitor the Login System for each Variation
So first i tested the transaction codes like sm04, and smlg and checked with users and how much bytes they are occuping i have tested.
please give me your inputs in which way i could test it better  and what are all the various aspects??
    Thanks
    Sahad

    HI ,
For load balancing you can check the load on the Ci and DI .
Just goto SM51 ,there you shall see the CI and the DI there.double click on the ci.
Now run St02 and st03n and St06 and check the performance.
Do the same for the Application Server.
I shall suggest that if you have more application server Just Remove the CI from the logon load balancing to have better performance.
for more details go through this Link to check logon load balancing at os level

  • Load Balancing for Payroll

    Hello all,
We have a Production system with a powerful central instance that we use for day-to-day jobs and users, and then a VM (dialog instance) that we have recently added to act as a instance for payroll users to run their long running processes on.
I would like to know if there is a way to reserve access to the new VM (dialog instance) to specific users, or only to specific jobs, as either of these solutions would be good. The only consideration is that the Payroll lady runs these jobs in the FOREGROUND (I know, strange) and she won't do it any other way. So these user/job filters have to work for DIA jobs, not only BGD jobs.
Does anyone have a good idea?
    Thanks in advance.

    Dear Johan,
As mentioned in the prior response, you need to configure Logon Load Balancing on the CI to effectively use the DI for load balancing.
To restrict access for users to the new DI, you can try to use the method of maintaining the profile parameter in the CI login/password_logon_usergroup, and mention a user group for the users whom you don't mention to login through the CI.
This provides the facility (when activated) - that users with the mentioned user group in the profile parameter will not be able to password login to the CI.
Further to mention the background jobs running in the CI, while scheduling the same in SM36, we have an option to choose the server on which the job has to be run. You can use this option to schedule the jobs in the DI.
    Please reply on your trials.
    Thank you

    Vineeth

  • Load balancing error 88

    Dear all,
We are suddenly  facing a problem in the PRD system. There user are getting the below error and if they restart there system than  it is solved
Load balancing error 88: Cannot connect to message server (rc=9)
few days back  We have upgrade the system from ecc5 to ecc6 and its only
Please suggest why the error is coming and how to solved it
    Regards,
    Kumar

check the /etc/services file for a proper port setting for the R/3 message server "sapms<sid>" at 36xx. You can try connecting the SAPgw directly to the dispatcher at port 32xx where XX is the instance number. If that connection is good, then it appears to be a logon load balancing configuration problem which uses the message server.
This is usually because it cannot connect to the message server. Please check the dev_ms for any errors. if it is intermittent it is likely to be a network problem ( see note 500235 Network Diagnosis with NIPING.
    Check following SApnotes :
#n21559: Examination of SAPGUI problems  could be useful.
Please also check the note 882741 for the more info about this problem.

  • Load Balancing Users

    Hi Everyone,
We seem to have an issue on our load balancing where one server keeps getting overloaded with users on it than the other servers which is in turn causing performance issues where one server is getting over utilized while the others aren't. Other than limiting the amount of users that can log on to this one server is there anything we can do to balance out the users amongst the application servers?

    Check the following SAP Notes:
[SAPNote 51789 - Poor user distribution in logon distribution|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap%28bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==%29/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=51789]

  • SMLG load balance

    Dear Experts,
We are using logon groups for load balance. Logon quality is used to determine the next logon server.
We want to change this algorith with something like round robin. Each dialog instance should accept one user so user count will be identical on all dialog instances.
    Any way to perform this?
    best Regards

    Dear Sez .
I am not sure about changing the algorithm to round robin as desired but we can improve poor distibution of user.
    ++++++++++++
RSRZLLG0 is the report that updates the data used by SMLG. RSRZLLG0
itself is called by SAPMSSY6 which is an automatically started report (aso-called 'autoabap', which will be started all five minutes. Or, to be
more exactly, will be started at the interval that is given in the
    parameter rdisp/autoabaptime (default 300 seconds).
Please go to transaction SMLG, and than goto -> load distribution.
There you will see a response time of the individual application
    servers.
    1. Assign Heavy transaction user groups to the servers with more
computing power and memory. This will ensure that even if these users use the resource concurrently, they will not face performance issues
    to a greater extent.
    2. Estimating the optimum value for response time and logged in users is Difficult. But you can definitely base these values on the average
response of the server that is acceptable to the users and they can
work comfortably without performance issues. The number of users can
be based upon the situations that you have faced when :
    a) n Number of users were logged in and the performance of the server was acceptable.
    b) y Number of users were logged in and users started complaining
    about the server response.
The limits that we discussed do influence the algorithm for load
balancing to some extent. But at the same time we cannot fully influencethe same. However you can try to implement the changes and further fine
tune the limits as per requirements.
Due to the large fluctuations in response times for each instance
then you should consider the changes in the logon load balancing
algorithm of note #51789 (Poor user distribution in logon distribution)
to give more weighting to the users than response time than default
for Quality values in SMLG to get more equal load balancing between
    the instances.
Hope this information may / may not help you

  • Srv2008 r2, Load balancing causing sessions to Stack and halt logon

    Hello all,
We have currently using Appv 4.6 sp3, across 14 terminal servers. These then have access to 2 app servers and also 2 bkr servers.
We are running a srv2008 r2 environment, and running a windows 7 user experience on the terminal servers.
We are running microsoft load balancing via a farm setup. The member of staff that set they system up has recently left and with limited documentation I am struggling a bit to get my head around why the stacking occurs
The problem we have come across is that the system work ok load balancing works a treat, then all of a sudden a user will come along try log on and will take longer than usual to connect there session.  This is causing all users that try connecting
to be stacked behind this slower user logging on and so to a point where there could be 20 + people waiting to log on.
This causes us a huge problem as we can have almost 700+ use at a time on the thin client environment.
Is there a setting that can be set to stop this situation happening, ??
    Thanks in advance
    Lee

    Hi Lee,
Does this issue occurs with all users at a time?
Do you have printer redirection enabled?
If yes, then please try below Hotfix and check the result.
Long logon time when you establish an RD session to a Windows Server 2008 R2-based RD Session Host server if Printer Redirection is enabled
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2655998
    Hope it helps!
