Long delay after switching application

I have a project which has about 1000 clips.  Every time I switch to another application and then back to Premiere, it takes a very long time before Premiere can respond to any action.  Initially, I thought it's b/c memory.  So I added more RAM and see about 50% of RAM free.  However, this does not help.
One day I deleted a clip in Explorer and switching back to Premiere.  After the long delay, it pops up a dialog asking me where is the clip.
So could the long delay is from scanning for clip changes?  If so, is there any way to disable it?
thanks!

Do you mean:
1. The delay is unrelated to the scanning of clips
or
2. It's not possible to stop the scanning?
The project file is only 40MB.  I've had 100MB or even larger project file before and never see such long delay.  Could you please give me some pointer on how to reduce this delay (right now about 30 seconds)?
Thanks!

we're using Z10 with BES10.1.3, everything run smoothly but we've one issue:
since we have upgraded Z10 device software from 10.1 to 10.2.0.1791 there is a delay of about 12-15 seconds each time we unlock device to business content until we see messages in BB-Hub
to explain, business content is locked - we type in password - OK
display switch to empty hub - then we have to wait 12-15sec. until messages will appear in hub
We've tried out different things, we've wiped device, we've deleted business content and regarding email account, activated device new on BES10, wait 2 days that basic syncronisation will be done and same issue.
Can you help us please, we don't know what we should try out any more...Blackberry Hub and the fast check of new incoming messages is one of the main features of Z10...thanks in advance.

Thanks for your quick reply, so what should I try out with this device in detail?

  • Long delay after issuing commands at prompt

This has only begun recently, so I assume I've done something wrong but I havn't tinkered that much, so I can't really retrace my steps.
At the prompt when I type in certain commands there is a very long delay (10-30 seconds) to load certain things. startx is one of them, emacs and firefox are others.
There isn't really anything else to say, there isn't any error messages or anything so I really have no idea how to locate the problem. It also occurs outside of a prompt, for instance when using xbindkeys.
After they've been loaded once they load quickly but it's really annoying after I reboot.
    Any clues?

I find that there is a small delay normally with those programs, I'm not sure if that's what you mean.
Could you post the contents of /var/log/errors.log and the output of dmesg.  Also you might check the CPU
    usage when they open.

  • Long delay after F10 "full  motion" stop

I am new to Captivate and am recording a movie in Word where
I need user to see continuous movement of mouse cursor as I point
to different things in the Word document. I am also using
continuous audio while recording to movie. The problem is that when
I hit the F10 key to stop the full motion animation I get a delay
of about 20 seconds before the movie ends, even though I quickly
hit the End key after hitting the F10 key. The full motion movie
created is about 9MB and about 4 minutes long but with a long delay
of at least 20 seconds with no action at the end of the movie. It's
almost like my hardware is working to stop the animation and end
the movie but it is taking 20 seconds to stop the full motion
recording and ending the movie. Has anyone else experienced this
problem? I am using a laptop with a Celeron M 1.5 GHZ computer. Is
    my hardware the problem?
Adobe technical support has had me reload the Captivate
program several times with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi again Jeff
As I indicated in my earlier post, full motion in Captivate
is brief. For example, say you are recording WordPad (this example
is taken from the official Captivate training curriculum).
You record dragging across a sentence to select it. This is
just a few seconds long and ends up as full motion. You then click
the color pallete to change the color. This results in a static
slide. You choose the color. Another static slide. You step off to
show the color change. Another static slide. Now you scroll the
document to view the text at the bottom. Another full motion slide
as you drag the thumb of the scroll bar. Then you select multiple
lines. Another full motion slide as you select the lines. Then you
click the icon to apply bullets. Static slide. Then step off the
selected text to reveal the bulleted text with no highlight. A
    final static slide.
With Captivate, it is the combination of static and full
motion slides that provides the illusion of fluid movement.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • Long delays when switching from anything to xterm; Security Update 2008-001

I just updated my computer and rebooted. After it all came up again I opened Safari, selected a url and copied it, clicked on my x-term and it stayed behind my browser! After an excruciating delay of nearly a second, it came up on top. This makes me frequently mark large chunks of text in my xterms by mistake, which of course messes up my cut and paste buffer. I could not believe this so I actually used a stopwatch and it gives me 1.32s between clicking on the xterm until it appears on top.
I can switch just fine between Safari and iTunes, but Safari and xterm gives this behavior. Same with iTunes and xterm. This makes my computer practically useless and I have no idea how to fix it!

    Good News!
No OS is perfect, you just get to choose the most important features for you.
PS. Sometimes things do "just work", but we can do little things to increase those odds on our own.

  • Mail no longer works after migrating applications from Mountain Lion

This weekend I bought a Mac Pro 2.1. I upgraded it to Lion then migrated all my files and applications from my iMac (running Mountain Lion). Now the Mail app doesn't work. I can't uninstall it and Software update says everything is up to date. How can I get my Mail app to work again? I guess I've somehow copied the Mail app from the Mountain Lion mac which is why it won't run.

No unfortunately after the OS  is installed the installer package is removed so you'll need to go through the whole procedure again.
There is a way to save the installer and make a bootable flash drive you can install off of. You should be able to find the procedure if you search here or on the net.

  • Long delay after startup before screen brightness, volume buttons work

I just started noticing this in the last few days. After I start up, it will be 4 or 5 minutes before I can adjust the screen brightness or volume using the F keys. Also, I noticed that I can't do a "Force Quit" during this time - either by doing the keystroke or by going to the Apple menu. After this "dead period" is over, if I've enacted any of the aforementioned activities, they will appear on the screen all at once.
I can start and use other applications just fine during this period. It seems like OS X is just not completely done booting up, and that's why I can't get to any of the built-in OS features. I think I would be fine with that if I was still using windows, but I've never had this problem on my mac before. The only things that I've installed in the last few weeks are the Firefox 3 upgrade and (I believe) some pushed updates from Apple - can't remember which apps they were for.
Can someone help me troubleshoot this?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
How much Free space do you have on what size HD?
Might give a try with Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Or, you can do some of those things another way...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • IPad 2 side buttons no longer work after switching screen

My screen got cracked 4 months ago, but I still used it perfectly fine. Last week i paid a guy to replace my screen, after which, the side buttons (top switch, screen lock/mute, and volume buttons) stopped workiing. The home button is the only button that works. What is causing this and are there any apps i can download that can lock my screen with (so i can tilt is sideways without the screen shifting)? BTW, the guy who did the job said it's not his fault so i cant do anything on that end.

aThen a button will appear on your screen click that then it will give you a device option click on that and you can lock your screen turn the volume up and down and lock the screen rotation. Hope this helps!

  • Some things no longer work after switch to direct LDAP mode

    Hi,
today i have tried switching to direct ldap mode following the documentation
now i can no longer send mail directed to hosts as
    [email protected]
i always get a 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias:
whereas email@{subdomain}.domain.com is ok, as long as the subdomain is known to the MTA, ie it is an alias object in the DC tree
also, some aliases defined in the file "aliases" are no longer recognized,
for convenience, i had some default forward lines likes
    *@domain.com: @otherrelay:*@domain.com
which effectively acted like a smarthost, ie mail to addresses not known in domain.com were forwarded to "otherrelay"
now, probably i could solve the second problem either using a smarthost in the DC tree 's domain config
the first problem, however, puzzles me...it look like if it doesn't find a matching address, and the host is not known as a domain, then further rewrite rules are not applied ?

    i found the problem,
in option.dat, DOMAIN_UPLEVEL must be set to 0, in order to have the old behaviour (wildcards in aliasfile, and possibility to send mails directly to specified hosts)
i had set it to 1, in the hope the MTA would be more tolerant to find users (if [email protected] is not found, then maybe it exists at [email protected], so use this instead) as some of our users have quite problems addressing other users in the correct subdomain.

  • [Gnome 3] Long delay after login

    Hi guys,
I experience a delay of about 15 seconds before the system begins to start the gnome-shell after I had logged in through GDM. During that time the system doesn't seem to work. At least the hard drive is not.
    Can you confirm that behaviour?
    Regards

The dbus subsystem isn't starting.  You might want to add that to your DAEMONS to start on boot or check to see why it isn't starting.

  • Long delay after selecting print in Mail

    Hi,
Installed Snow Leopard over the weekend, however there is a delay when I try to print any email (large or small) from Mail.
I click command and P and the 'File' in the top menu turns blue for around 30 seconds before the print dialogue box finally pops up. I am going to add another 1Gb RAM to my Macbook to see if this addresses this issue. Bear in mind that Mail is the only application open at the time.
Does anyone else have this issue?

    Hello Rory:
FWIW, I do not have that problem.
You might try a couple of things.
    1. Rebuild the mailbox(s).
    2. Delete your printer, restart, and then add it back into your system.

  • Long delay after logging in - WXP & M200

    Hi,
When my M200 is running on batteries, most of the times I log in to the system from a cold start I have to wait for about two minutes after logging in. Opening the Task Manager learns that the CPU is idle, harddisk is idle, only few of the processes loaded; the system just seems to be waiting for something. Other programs than Task Manager cannot be opened.
Around the time the delay happens, in the System section of the Event log the following error messages are recorded:
. "Silent Running: Stress test transition: Dynamic -> Performance 3D", service "nv", event_ID: 106
. "Silent Running: Stress test transition: Performance 3D -> LowPower 3D", service "nv", event_ID: 106
nv seems to be nVidia, but reinstalling the display driver did not change a bit. When the system is running on AC power, the problem never occured.
What is happening here & how do I solve it?
    Thanks for any good suggestion.
    Pieter.

    Hi,
in my opinion this relates to the power savings because the graphic chip is a Nvidia GeForce FX Go 5200 for notebooks. The chip is managed by the power savings and could be set to different modes.
I search in the internet about these error messages and foud something. All opinion I had read said that this only a event log entry which doesn't matter. There are some more similar expressions for other events.
    Nice holidays and Xmas

  • Long Delay when switching Flash cast members

I have a movie that uses Flash cast members as sprites. The Flash members are static images and are optimized as best they can be, but they are using Background transpaerent ink and cannot be direct to stage so I know they use a lot rescources. These sprites are rotated randomly, and that is why I must use Flash members since bitmaps look terrible when they are rotated.  The user can select to change the sprite's members to display different images.  I do this by changing the memberNum property of each sprite.   When that happens on some systems there is a delay of up to 2 seconds while the new Flash cast members are substituted.  All Flash members are internal and are set to Preload before Frame 1.
Can anyone think of what may be causing this delay?

Firstly, I'd suggest that rather than rotating the Flash sprite it may be simpler to rotate the contents of the Flash using Flash functions built into the SWF... I'm pretty sure it would be more efficient in terms of processing. If necessary you could wrap your SWF's content into a MoveClip within the main SWF, and then spin the MovieClip using Actionscript in the SWF (if you see what I mean).
As for the delay problem - have you tried using the sprite.member property rather than sprite.memberNum? For example:
    on changeMember me, aMemberName
         sprite(me.spriteNum).member = aMemberName
    end
I don't know if this would side-step the problem because I've never come across it before, but it's a thought. Bare in mind that memberNum can be ambiguous because it doesn't specify which cast the member is stored in.
Telling members to preload before frame 1 doesn't guarantee that they will be preloaded - you need to be sure that you've allocated enough preLoadRam. The following would allocate 1MB (1024 KB) of RAM for preloading
    on startMovie
         the preLoadRAM = 1024
    end
If your SWFs are large then you may need to up the preLoadRAM value (assuming you can be sure that your users' systems will have enough free RAM).
Finally, you can use the member.preload property to tell Director whether a SWF must load completely before it plays...:
    member("myMember").preload = true
... or whether the SWF can be streamed from disk as it plays...:
    member("myMember").preload = false
I hope some of this helps.

  • Long delay between switching from internal - external speakers MacBook Pro 13

    Hey,
Ive got a MacBook Pro 13" (2011) on lion 10.7.4 and I have experienced recent problems with a switch from internal to expernal speakers and vice versa. For example, Im on itunes listening to a song or watching a video on youtube etc and then I plug in my speakers or my headphones, the sound stops. It varies from time to time, until the music continues then, ranging from 10s to hours!
When I try to adjust the volume following things have happened on different occasions:
the volume symbol in the top bar is grey
when I try to adjust the volume with the keyboard, it either wont let me (indicating full volume and the stop sign appear on the screen) or it indicates on the screen that the volume gets changed but you cant hear anything
in the latter case, sometimes when the sound works again, I can press those buttons but the volume is stuck and doesnt respond.
Does it have to do anything with the fact that I am pretty bad at closing tabs on my browser and programmes? I wouldnt have thought so though because it didint used to be like that with the sound and my habits havent changed.
Anyeay, I eould be very happy if someone could help me out with this issue. Many thanks in advance

Thanks for taking the trouble to answer. I agree that it seems like a hw problem either with a cable or internal mounting. To help anyone else who had this sort of problem ..... there is no need to worry. I picked up the phone and called Apple. A very polite and helpful tech guy ran me through a graphics ram reset (PRAM) to see if this would fix things and said to let them know if it didn't. The problem reoccured so the machine is going back. Apple immediately arranged for the machine - no debate, no hassle - to be picked up by courier and a new one shipped back to me. I'll have it in a couple of days. That is what you call service. I'm still going to take an additional precaution though. Despite having a good cover for the machine I'm going to add additional padding in the backpack I use on a weekly commute. Note though that I never had any problems with a series of Macbooks in the decade I've been commuting across Europe (on a weekly basis).

  • Long delay after a drag and drop to trash

This seems like a new behavior and I haven't changed anything: when I drag something to the trash there seems to be a delay in it actually "Getting in there," however if I right click and then click "Move to Trash" its immediate. Is this the way it should be? I am not using secure delete.

And it does nothing similar when you drop an item on a folder or anything else, only the trash... Geez, that is pretty darn strange. And if you slowly drag and drop it, it does the same? I wonder if resetting your PRAM might be worth a shot.
If you delete or remove the plist from where it is now I would guess that a new one would be created automatically like most preferences. But maybe you should wait for Baltwo on that one. Does force quitting the finder do anything? You might also try starting up in Safe Mode to see if that has any effect. If it does, there's probably some software conflict going on. Good luck, if you get it fixed post back. I'd really like to know what was going on.
