Long story, short: stolen, jailbroken, confused, and now frozen .

ok so i had lost my ipod at school and when i had picked it up from the lost and found my boyfriend said it was jailbroken but i didnt see how so i thought i had gotten rid of the jailbroken utilities so i tried to update it and now it wont turn on! it is stuck on a screen that says to plug it into to itunes i already have and it wont even restore!! ughh im so upset i love my ipod and i really want to fix it since i wasnt the one who broke it! so heartbroken!</3

If the iPod simply won't power on because it's out of power, leave it on charge for a few hours. At first you won't see any response from it for at least thirty minutes.
However, if the problem is caused by a jailbreak, there's nothing we can do to help. Discusssions concerning jailbreaking are not allowed on the Apple forum, and none of us have any idea how the iPod will react once jailbroken.

Yet another example of why it's a VERY BAD IDEA to do a clean install of Lion unless you are already VERY familiar with how to tweak the Mac OS. There's a reason Apple engineers removed it as an option. To accomplish it you have to erase your disk; not for the faint hearted.
Do you have a backup? PLEASE don't tell us you did this without a robust backup.
You erased the operating machine, so your computer went to the only place it could find one, the Recovery partition. And it's minimal, so it has to download everything in small chunks to reinstall itself. So yeah, it could take 10 hours.
Here's another option. Do you still have the original disks that came with your machine? Put one in and restart from it. You can reinstall your old system much faster. Then go to the Mac App Store and your purchase history and see if you can redownload Lion (I think that still works).
And this time just do yourself a favor and install per Apple's instructions. When the machine starts into Lion, use Setup ***'t (the first thing that fires up) to migrate from your backup.

  • Long story short, OS got deleted and can't reinstall.

Computer was running pretty slow for a while, last night I got the pinwheel of death for a solid ten minutes running only Chrome and Itunes. Got fed up and reinstalled mountain lion overnight, woke up to an error screen. Tried restarting, computer no longer has an OS, gets error whenever I try to reinstall Mountain Lion. I am absolutely BEGGING anyone for help.

You do have a recent & usable backup of the system, don't you......
Did the Mac come with Mountain Lion when new? If not, then you'll have to restore Lion, then upgrade back to ML.
Will it boot in Recovery Mode and do the reinstall (plug to Internet, hold down Command-R prior to the startup chime, select reinstall, wait a LONG while for the 4+ GB installer to download) ?. If it came with Lion, you'll have to visit Recovery Mode's Disk Utility to ERASE the Macintosh HD volume first so the installer can downgrade the current ML installation.

Long story short....I restored my computer to an earlier point using time machine and now all of the previous back-ups are gone. My question has to do with itunes...is it possible to restore my itunes library to the most recent backup because the restore that I did was in march and the latest backup was in may....the reason being is that there were app that i had downloaded that are in my most recent back-up, that were not in the backup I restored to. Is it possible to just restore one application ie)itunes?

Long story short. plugged my i phone into my computer and my sons itune acct. came up ithought it was mine and hit restore now i have all his stuff and mine is gone. turns out i never backed up. Help. I have a new ipad which had 238 photos and it only would share 190 with my phone. I pretty much just deleted his stuff, reset to dfault to get my clock and calendar back. The biggest problem now is my old icons show up but wont launch so I figured I coul delete them then re install them but HIS apple account keeps showing up with his account info. How do I change that to get my name and password back on there?
Stupid I know but I cant take it back.

    Hi there cz1959!
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your data. It sounds like you need to sign into your own Apple ID again on the iPad, then download your previously purchased iPad apps again. We have an article on how to do exactly this, and it can be found right here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Also, you may want to consider signing up for a free iCloud account and turning on automatic backups. This will allow you to back up your iPad in the background and without connecting to a computer, so that this issue of data loss will be minimized if this sort of issue ever happens again:
    iCloud: Backup and restore overview

I hope this information helps resolve your situation. Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • Long story short, I'm logged on to my daughters iMessage. Will I receive text messages sent to her and texts she's sent out?

Long story short, I'm logged on to my daughters iMessage on my sons old iPod because of personal reasons so I was just wondering, will I receive her text messages? And will I be able to read the text messages she sends out? I may sound like the bad guy here but, it's for her own good that I'm doing this.
    Thank you.

When you associate a phone number with iMessage that is currently signed into an Apple ID it becomes tied to that Apple ID, so any other device that uses that Apple ID has access to that phone number for iMessage.
eg. I use iMessage on my iPhone which uses the same Apple ID as my iPad, as such I receive iMessages sent to my iPhone on my iPad aswell, and can respond to the same conversation on either.

I had my iPhone stolen last night and now want to know how do I access my iCloud storage?

If you've wiped the device remotely then it is no longer associated.
You could also change the password for your Apple ID.

Message Edited by OnnagokorO on 11-27-2007 11:53 PM

The password you have changed is the password which protects the access to the web interface of the router. In other words, you must know this password to make changes to the configuration of the router. It is not the encryption key for wireless security. Wireless security is configured on the Wireless Security tab.

hi one guy stolen my iphone, and now i need my pictures which i have in my icloud i open my Apple id in icloud but i downlode just 20 pic how i got my all picturs in my pc?

Update:  I reset my phone again and this time I restored it from my last iCloud backup.  That "sort of" worked.  (The missing info was on my phone temporarily, but it's still missing from iCloud.com and as the phone syncs with the cloud the missing contacts are disappearing.)
This is good news, but I'm losing progress.  How can I restore my iCloud settings to that last backup?

  • Has Mavericks gone all maverick on my 2010, 27" iMac?  Long story, short:  Replaced 'bad' HD with identical model (1TB), reloaded apps, + got external 2TB HD.  Fan was running high, now machine won't boot in ANY mode.

I have a mid-2010 iMac (27") 2.66 GHz Core i5 (750) with  4GB RAM that I bought second-hand almost three years ago.  It worked perfectly...until I 'upgraded' to Mavericks last Fall, & all my trouble began. At first, certain apps started getting kinda wobbly, especially Chrome which was really unstable. Eventually one day on boot-up I got the gray screen/apple logo/spinning wheel/loading bar--and then it would shut down.  I got apple care on the phone and we went through a laundry list of various tests and start-up attempts.  We reset PRAM, got me into safe mode and eventually hit a point where we were going to have to wipe the HD and start fresh--except I didn't have a back-up (shame on me!).  He told me 1) the error code that came up after running disk utitility (?) indicated no problem with HD and that it was software related; and, 2) to take it into Genius Bar, have them backup data and then I could call him back and we'd do the deed and then reinstall with backed-up files.  Tried but Geniuses said, "We don't do that" and told my hubby how to.  We bought the equipment and prepared to back-up using my son's MacBook Pro.  No glory.  Nada.
After much back-and-forth with 'geniuses' and guy on phone, we took it to MicroCenter.  Their diagnostics said HD is shot--get new one.  After pricing everything out we went with iFixit's instructions, and I ordered the identical (I thought) HD for Mac online from manufacturer.  We installed it, but had wee problem with LCD temp sensor and so fan ran like crazy.  I also bought a 2TB external back-up and did routine back-ups, so I should be good there.  I am aware of that third rail on the HD's with sensor but thought I could circumvent that and 'knew' it was really the LCD sensor that was the problem.  I was traveling for months all winter/spring so didn't have time to devote to a pesky fan noise.  HOWEVER, with increased use being home for several weeks, suddenly we are back to square one it seems.  One day the machine shut down and has not rebooted since--about three weeks ago now.  Haven't called apple care but tried to reset PRAM and tried to restart using thumb drive where I thought I had saved a copy of Mavericks--didn't work so don't know for sure if it's on there.  I opened machine back up and saw that LCD sensor wire was not connected and falling apart.  I ordered a new wire which installed tonight with no apparent problems, crossed my fingers and...NADA.  Same-o, same-o:  gray screen, apple, spinning wheel, loading bar...then it shuts down and goes to black.  I have tried to restart with all kinds of codes:  reset PRAM, safe mode, hold down option key, hold down Command+R...again, nothing. I even replaced the keyboard batteries. As the progress bar fills up near the end, I hear a little click and whirr, fan running softly, but then it just shuts down.  I should mention that the PRAM reset did actually start out like it was working--it shut down/restarted but then the daggone apple/gray scree/spinning wheel/progress bar would kick in again...and then shut down 5-10 minutes later.  Any ideas, folks?  Please help?

Your internal hard drive is not good.
Your Time Machine drive with your backups on it, if these backups were created using OS X Mavericks version of Time Machine, these will not be accessible by early OS X versions of Time Machine.
Plus, Time Machine stores data and nothing of the OS X system.
Plus, you want to save/retrieve your data that is still on your iMac's internal drive.
So, we can try to get your iMac back to running OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
The most easiest and direct way to do this is to just purchase another external 2 TB hard drive (preferably a fast FireWire 800 external hard drive)
You can use your OS X Snow Leopard install DVD to format this new hard drive as an OS X Extended Format with GUID partition scheme.
Create two partitions on the new external drive one that is big enough for OS X and all applications (say 500 Gbs) and the remaining partition for storage so you can manually copy all your important data ( and maybe your  Applications folder, too) from your Mac's internal drive (if it is accessible) to the large partition on this new drive.
Once the drive is formatted using the Disk Utility app that is on your OS X Snow Leopard DVD disc, you can then proceed to install OS X Snow Leopard to this new external drive and now giving you a bootable hard drive that will have a fairly fast, working OS X version your iMac can boot to, now.
Once OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is install to this new external hard drive, you need to boot to this to get up and running.
Use OS X Software Update feature to get you back to OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard so you can regain use of The Mac App Store.
    You have two options, now.
You still need to attempt to manually copy over all your important data and applications over to the large storage partition you created on this new external drive.
Once you have done this, you need to search for, purchase, download and install a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to be able to clone your new hard drive's system back to your iMac's internal drive once you have resolved/replaced you iMac's Internal hard drive, again, if it is damaged.
If you still want to be able to access your Time Machine Backup drive, you can go ahead and try to re-download OS X 10.9 Mavericks ( you may need to use a Combo Update version from the Mac App Store, now as Mavericks is up to 10.9.5, now. You will upgrade install Mavericks over your new OS X Snow Leopard partition on the new external hard drive.
If, successful, you should be able to access your Time Machine backup at this point.
You will be running your iMac from this external drive until the internal drive is repaired/replaced.
The other idea is if you do not care about your Time Machine backups on the other drive, you can foresake the data on this drive and keep this new external drive , and your iMac,  running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and forget about upgrading to Mavericks, at all, since you had so many issues with it.

  • We have an itunes account on our desktop and my kids have it on their ipod and iphone. I went in and changed our user name from my old e-mail address which is no longer accessible to my new one and now either of my kids can access the itunes store..

We have an itunes account on our desktop and both my kids have it on iphone and ipod. I went in and changed out user name from an old e-mail address which is no longer accessible to my one I use now... When the kids try to sign onto the itunes store it tells them they have the wrong user name..
    Can this be fixed??

Did you change the email address or create a new Apple ID?
If the email address associated with the account was merely changed, sign out of the Apple ID on the devices and sign in using the new credentials.

Hey I'm a novice on computers but i've just done a full system restore on my laptop and put it back to factory spec, obviously i backed up all the data on an external hard-drive but when i have re-installed itunes and gone to import all my old music files from my previous itunes library as mpeg4 files it keeps telling me i don't have permission??!! *** someone please explain or tell me how to get music on to my new itunes without having to re-import every cd i own which is alot!!!

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • Hi I sold my iPad on eBay and to cut a long story short the person said they never received it. I had to refund the money as I'd no proof of purchase. I have my iPad I'd no. Can I disable it?

Hi can I disable my iPad that got stolen?

Only if you enabled Find my iPad and the person with the iPad hasn't restore it to factory settings.
Most eBay sales require proof of shipping - did you ship through a label generated on eBay? Can you prove shipping - did you track it?
I suggest you contact eBay and file a claim for fraud with them.

  • I downloaded the web developer plugin and a bunch more....was just playing around with my site externaly with the develper trying to figure it out. long story short, my page view got messed up and i wanted it back normal so

... i unistalled all the add ons and even updated to firefox4 then back to 3.6. my site is still fine on the other computers in the house but on mine i still cant view it. the pictures are gone...formating is off...whats going on? thanks

This method is slow and ridiculous ...
Yep. So don't use it, use the "piano roll" view - you have a lot more control over the lenghts of your notes and the exact beginning. Enter the notes by holding down the Apple key and clicking and dragging (the onscreen keyboard can only be used in "record" mode). Use the same mode to modify imported midi tracks.
There are no solo strings in GB, but you should have a string ensemble and some basic choir.
