Looking for ideas for a: Photo Gallery portlet

Hey all,
I'm wondering if anyone out there uses any special code or 3rd party apps, or anything to fancy-up a portlet to display photos?
For the last few hours I've been working to integrate CoolIris (http://www.cooliris.com) with a Publisher portlet but have run into a snag that I'm having some difficulty debugging. But rather than spinning my wheels on this one solution, I figured I'd reach out to all of you to see how you display event/holiday/etc types of pictures within your portals.
Ideally I'd love for our users to be able to submit images directly through a Publisher portlet and create something more flashy than just a static image that they have to scroll through.
Any thoughts?

I'm looking for the same functionality.
What I'm thinking of doing is to use a document library component for users to upload and manage images. Then use Content Presenter to display the images.
Problems:
- Content Presenter doesn't do folders well.
- default templates don't show images
- icon view only shows an icon representing the type of content
Another option is to use the wiki as at http://wiki.oracle.com/photos/albums . Don't know if that can be done yet but cuold be easier for users.

Looking for the right gallery.

Hey folks. I have been looking online for a photo gallery that auto plays when the page loads, but at the same time I want to be able to insert the photo names in a DB and CF will get the photos to fill in the gallery whenever available and regardless the amount I add or take away. I was going to use it for advertisers, so i don't need anything fancy. I guess something like the size of thumbnails going from top to bottom and also has up and down arrow incase someone finds one of the ads interesting. Hope this makes sense.

I could not agree more. The #1 isssue I have with many things is figureing out what the correct keywords are to use in a search. Once I used AS3 rather than flash, I got good results!
There is an art to searching and it would be wise to have some documentation on what to and what not to search on/for in the help documents!

I'm going on a trip and I am looking for a photo app where I can take a picture and upload it to the web from my phone so my friends can view the pictures on a map.

Time Machine on my iMac won't open iPhoto. It goes to desktop screen automatically. When I select User/Picture/Iphoto library it only brings up the preview page with the size of the folder. I can't get into the library to look for lost photos.

Thank You. This helps me alot to get into the masters and to see events and photos in a utilitarian way, but it is not as easy as viewing the normal iphoto format to find photos. Can I do something else or did I not do something right to not see normal iphoto in Time Machine ?

How do I create a pulp fiction look for my photo

I've been looking for a good tutorial to create a pulp fiction look for my photos. See the work of artist Thomas Allen who uses real pulp fiction books as an example. How can I recreate the look using Photoshop? I have CS3. What filters or steps should I take? Can someone point me to a good reference? See example below. Many thanks for your help. If so, there's a lot to consider beyond Photoshop treatments: an appropriate illustration, the type, etc. The tutorial "Creating a Retro Sci Fi Poster" covers all of that plus Photoshop effects. Beware that it's very detailed how-to!

which includes some out-of-box portlets (such as email, dictionary, bookmarks,
etc), is there a place where i can find some more out-of-box porltets.
For example IBM Websphere has a whole range of plug 'n play portlets available

Spinning Beach Ball Delay with "Look for Shared Photos" Checked

We installed iLife '06 on our school computers - all 500 of them - this fall. It is version 6.0.4. However, upon launch, there is a long delay of about 2-4 minutes with a spinning beach ball that we've determined takes place because iphoto is looking for shared libraries. We have one shared library on the network at this time, but sometimes teachers turn on sharing, or have in the past.
Last year, we were using iPhoto '04 and had no problems like this at all -shared libraries appeared immediately, just as quickly as shared libraries in itunes still do.
Has anyone experienced this - is there a known issue? Or should I look for a network problem.

Solved this problem myself. It was a dns issue. For some reason, when iphoto looks for shared photo's, it does a reverse lookup on the ip of any machine it finds that has sharing turned on. If there is no reverse lookup zone on your dns server running OS X then it locks up as it repeatedly sends the request. Simply creating a reverse zone for the ip address range of your clients makes the bug go away. Why it needs to do a reverse lookup is beyond me.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your phone doesn't do mirroring, only the 4S will do that. It only does basic AirPlay.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

Troubleshoot Main Image for spry photo gallery

Hello, I am modifying some spry files to see if I can get the
hang of it using my images. I have taken the photo gallery files
gallery.js
SpryData.js
SpryEffects.js
xpath.js
The folder structure contains images and thumbnails on the
root folder as well as the ap.css sheet and photos.xml
The page is

Since I only have 1 photo gallery (and I did the getting
started tutorial and worked fine I wanted to add the slideshow
effect in the spry demo functionality) I only have one xml doc and,
as mentioned, the both image folders and the css sheet are on the
root, and the all the js files are in an includes folder.
The thumbnails show up fine, but, the main image does not
show up at all. I am almost sure this is a bad reference somewhere
or a begginners mistake but I cant find it.
I did modify the gallery.js because it referenced 2 or three
variables (like dsPhotos and dsGalleries that are used for the demo
I only have dsGallery) and I cahnged all of the other refrences to
dsGallery.
I think I am having problems here:

yes, I suspect that is because the tutorial talks about
building this from scratch and uses that name for the "thumbnails"
div rather than what they actually use in the demo files...
confusing, to say the least.
It would be nice if there were a simple document with demo
files that didn't include other stuff unrelated to JUST the slide
show (gallery)... and if the whole layout were more simple,
css-layout-wise...
or, if the demo files were commented with what each bit is
for and how to modify it.

I have tried inserting the script that you have pasted above as HTML on my test site and it worked.
What happens is whenever you insert something as HTML, Muse by default creates a div tag and places the content within the div tag. What I have done differently is I have inserted the JS with in the <script> tag and it has inserted the Javascript in this manner,
I beleive that since this a browser re-direct script that you are using, you would like to place this in the head section and not in the body tag, however, that is certainly not possible using Muse as it does not allow access to the code it generates as a muse file.
You, can still export the pages as HTML and make the appropriate changes there before uploading to the server.

Creating categories for the photo gallery?

is it possible to separate the links into categories? (-i'm
using the plain text links instead of the drop down menu)
for example, my site has nature photos, and i'd like to break
them down into different sections, such as:
-Forests (the category)
--forest 1 (the links to the different forest galleries)
--forest 2
--forest 3
and then another category after that, say,
-Animals (the category)
--birds (the links to the galleries)
--insects
--mammals
and so forth
any ideas on how to do this?

You could include the search window on your blog site. Then each person could search the category they are interested in. You could even create a text window with sample categories listed. I know it's not what you are looking for, but it's a quasi work around to get something like what you want.
