Looking for programmer for Arch AIF GTK frontend GUI

I am the English admin & web developer for the Maryan Linux project. Let me just say what it is so you don't have to go researching about it.
Maryan Linux is a Linux distribution, based on Arch, using E17 as its DE. It is designed to be extra user friendly, but fast, stable and bleeding edge using the Arch Linux repos with Pacman.
What I, the lead developer (Maty1206) and second lead developer (smartboyathome) need is a programmer, who is experienced or good enough to build a friendly front end GUI for Arch Linux's AIF installer. It's a community project, so their really isn't any pay. Doesn't matter what language the programmer uses, as long as it works for the task (No java though). So if anyone wants to do it, can and has the time, just post a comment here.
The main benefit is that it also benefits other projects that need a GTK installer and Arch distros that use XFCE, Gnome, any *box, E17, LXDE etc. would use a GTK installer for Arch. The installer will obviously be under GPL so everyone can use it.

You may want to try iPhoto, which was preinstalled on your Mac, or Aperture, Photoshop Elements, GIMP, GraphicConverter, Acorn, or any of the many other apps you can find by entering "photo editor" into the search box in the App Store application. A lot of these will run rings around Microsoft's lightweight offering.

Looking for ideas for a university "project"

I've thought in a little game ( it can't be a chess game, as it is what the teacher has given us as example)... What do you think? Any suggestions?

Due to my own laziness, I never to got to advance to a level I actually wanted to achieve, but I think this is slowly changing, mostly due to the fact, that I've become interested in all of this open source thing. It's not only about using F|OSS for everyday work, it's more the will to be a lively member of the community, which is able to share some of its knowledge in order to improve the whole project. So, if I ever manage to go beyond the barrier of my own laziness, I have some (from my point of view) intesting projects to start and am very much looking forward to participating.
To return to your initial question: How much time and experience do you have? As a beginner, I try to understand your situation as I am actually in the same one and had to do a project for school for myself. If you have more time at your disposal, you could try out some advanced stuff, like not merely employee management, but a simplified company management software or things like that, you could even program a operating system 'control center', with a rather limited approach, but it is indeed an interesting idea, which I also have in mind as the biggest project yet to come. If you can emphasize on ArchLinux, you could sit down and try to program a GUI control module for some service, the operating system is offering. Look out for appealing GUI frameworks (GTK or Qt) and their Java bindings. I wish you good luck.

Too stupid and/or lazy for anything but Arch?

Many times during the last 15 years, I made an effort to use GNU/Linux, mostly so-called "beginner-friendly" distributions, as my main operating system but never successfully. There were always some issues that I was too stupid or too lazy to understand and fix. So I kept using Windows and later on Mac OS X.
While still using Mac OS X, I inexplicably stumbled upon Arch some months ago and gave it a try. I followed the awesome Beginner's Guide to setup Arch on my notebook. For the first time there were no issues I could not resolve. Overall, it was beginner-friendly, transparent and fun. I have been using Arch as my sole operating system since then. Best computing experience ever.
Recently, I am becoming more and more interested in other GNU/Linux distributions and *BSDs. I tried to find a (desktop) system that:
1) followed KISS,
2) (easily) allowed a minimal installation,
3) was documented for the stupid and/or lazy.
I looked at Debian but its init system scared me. I looked at Gentoo but its compiling scared me. I looked at Slackware but its documentation scared me.
I am wondering: Am I unfoundedly scared by either of these? Have I overlooked a system? Or am I just too stupid and/or lazy for anything but Arch?

it sounds to me like Arch is just the best fit for you
...and i can share my own perspective on the matter...
I've used many many distro's; gentoo (and a few derivatives), Fedora (and a few remixes), Ubuntu (and many of it's derivatives), puppy (and...same goes..), slackware, FreeBSD, PClinuxOS, debian (various versions), etc, etc....
i haven't found any distribution that i like better than Arch....and i do not 'distro-hop' anymore at all. there is absolutely no point for me to do so...
So I don't think you're too stupid or lazy for anything but Arch, it's quite the opposite... Arch is simple/easy to use, but does require the user to be somewhat competent, right? - i say this because things can break (although not too often), and the end-user has to be able to do things a little more hands on than some of the so-called 'user-friendly distro's'. we also all tend to be aware of where all config files are, how to edit them, where they are located, etc...the average archer knows the underlying system fairly well, i tend to think.
Arch also tends to offer some of the advantages of both meta/binary distributions; ie: ubuntu, fedora, etc....while also offering the advantages of source-based distributions; ie: gentoo, yoper, etc. because it covers both types, you also do away with some of the disadvantages of both types; ie: compiling from source is more often than not as simple as using tools like 'yum' or 'apt-get' (which i suppose could be taken as laziness, but i tend to think it is just a better design), while in say Fedora or Ubuntu, there is more to do, to accomplish the exact same end-result... another example, we also don't have to sit around and wait for the whole system to compile on system upgrades (unless you choose too, using pacbuilder), this to me is a significant advantage over source-based distro's too....
I feel as an Archer i reap the benefits of all distros, in other ways too. for example, if i want some patch from Ubuntu, or say some software that is found in a PPA - usually i can find it in AUR. i need not bother with adding software sources, or any of that stuff, all i have to do is use 'yaourt -S *pkgname*'... the whole thing is automated, it grabs the source, builds it, installs it and i am done. easy peasy
then, there is the part, where using the kernel (with the patches i want), is much easier than say Fedora or Ubuntu, etc. I used to have to download and patch everything myself for the most part. but same goes as the example above - now all that it requires it 'yaourt -S *pkgname*'... which is much better, you want to use your applications, not spend your evening patching and compiling everything manually, when you don't have too - right? I am a tinkerer, but i still try to take the most sensible approach, ya know...?
then, as someone else pointed out. We have some of the best documentation available in ArchWiki - this is why i switched to Arch in the first place. i had been using ArchWiki with other distributions for a long time. it got to the point, that i started to realize that maybe Arch as a better fit for me...and the wiki showed me some of the other advantages of using Arch over other distros...
anyway, that's my 2 cents on the matter

When activating this program I get the error: "The data object OUTPUT-MT_MAPPING_OUT does not have a component SET-SET_ELEMENT_01
But the structure of the Proxy looks like this:

Hi Sebastian,
It's because you reference the wrong structure. It's a bit tricky to get the right one, but look into generation tab in SPROXY. Here you can see, which data elements has been created, and using the right one of these is the key. Notice you can foreward navigate into the different structures, which can help you.

Donate for 64-Bit Arch?

So, the gist of the quetsion is:
Would you donate (more) money to Arch if they were to make a 64-bit version of it? (IE. AMD64, not Itanic)

I am not sure what your exact goals are for having an A64bit compat OS. But, I use an A64 3400+ and I use my system mostly for gaming. For me I would wait cause 32bit linux commercial games still have issues with the A64 OS. Look at gentoo for example. They have a bunch of emulation libraries for 32bit apps to run on the a64 OS and most games still do not run correctly on it. The games that seem to run fine are the ones that have source code available so you can compile them into 64bit.
So, for me, I would wait till X or nvidia or opengl make drivers or libraries that work in 32bit from the 64bit OS. Until that happens and I have true backward compat in a 64bit OS, I will wait.
I have tried the gentoo amd64bit OS and it is fast, you can see a difference in desktop speed. But I need my commercial games in linux and I must follow them. I just can't get into the whole emulation thing anymore. I've done it with wine and wineX and have ceased to use them and accept what games are available for linux. I must do the same until true backward compat for the A64bit OS is there.

Partioning question for dual booting arch+ another distro

I have a 320 partition w/ 100gigs win7 and 20 for /root arch, and rest for /home arch and a 500gig hd with data,media, pictures etc on it..
I was thinking of dual booting Mint + arch.. mint for compatability, ubuntu base and stability and arch for bleeding edge+ speed
I was thinking about 20 /root arch, 140 /home arch, 20 /root mint, 140(rest of hd) /home mint.. and using gparted to grab a 5 gig piece of the 500gig hd for /swap for both distros ( i have 6 gigs ram, i usually set swappiness to zero anyway, but i'm sure a swap is just a formality anyway)... and making the rest of the 500 accessable to both distros for my media and other stuff i have.
is the above a good scheme ^^, does the size/order matter for what I want above? or should it be /root mint /root arch /home mint, /home arch.. 20/20/140/140 (sizes are approx of course)
or would there be a "real advantage for making the 320 mint, 500 for arch.. and make 250 gigs of the 500 shared for media etc.. (20 arch / and 230 for /arch home)..
I posted this in the newbie section, because of so many possibilities and I've read alot about partitioning, I just wonder whats the best, effecient way to do this, i'm sure some of you here dual boot 2 distros (hopefully on the same hd so my question is at least relevant)

It's your machine, so do whatever you want, because it's a very subjective matter. I have a 10 GB root ext4 without a separate /boot or /home (meaning that these folders are part of the root fs). But man, sometimes, a separate partition for /home can be a god-send. I experienced space issues countless times. Of course, it also depends on how much crap you install. If you install full-blown KDE and a bunch of games instead of something minimal like Openbox or a tiling WM, 10 GB are not enough. Wine also uses ~/.wine for games and such.

I would probably share the home partition between the distributions (except with different user names, so that the settings don't overlap between bleeding-edge versions of the same packages).

You may also wanna look into LVM, which will allow on-the-fly resizing of the partitions.

Something similar would be good as I understand it and although the programme is too complicated for my needs, the invoicing part of it suits me. a programm that provides the graphical display of a gnea ((in)finite automaton...dont know if thats the correct expression. the user has to be able to delete any of the states he wants by clicking on the partiular buttons...we already have the structure of the programm thought i have no idea if it's gonna work. but i dont know how the actual coding looks like. can anyone help me ?

You will have to provide more information that this. It sounds to me like you are asking for someone to give you the code to solve your problem which is not likely going to happen.

Im seriously considering building my own home recording system. I just want to start simple with a programme and suitable microphones to capture voice, guitar and midi keyboard.
Just wanted some advice on Logic and if its the right programme for me? Would I get the hang of it easy and what microphone would you suggest?
I want to adapt my acoustic guitar playing and singing to an electronic set up which I hope to create with the recording program and use in a live setting. Would Logic be suitable for this also?
Sorry for all the question, im pretty new to the self recording process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seriously, FN's comment regarding Logic vs whatever being the least of your worries is exactly correct.
To get decent sound you are going to be looking at some hardware expenditure.
An "audio interface".
Your MBP's built-in audio will give you only fair sound and you will end up spending money on a mic/inst preamp that you can plug into the Mac's 3.5mm line-in.
You're better off purchasing an external audio interface, this will have mic/instrument inputs and can interface to the MBP via Firewire or USB. (Firewire is better imho)
Personally not fond of USB mics so I would recommend a standard condenser mic and cable. There are some decent models in the $100 range that sound good for both voice and acoustic guitar. The Audio-Technica AT2020 comes to mind.
There are a number of small inexpensive MIDI keyboard controllers that can do the job.
Point is, this hardware will work with any MIDI/Audio sequencer so before purchasing Logic I would take care of the hardware investment and learn the ropes using Garageband.
GB is very capable, it's built on a subset of Logic. Six months ago I used Garageband to cut a demo for an ad company, they liked it enough that all I needed to make were a few tweaks and add the voice over (all in Garageband 4.1.2) and they purchased it for both radio/TV broadcast.
A good thing to remember is more is not necessarily better, knowing how to use whatever you have will always produce better results. Good music, artistry..etc is seldom, if ever about the equipment/software.
Get the hardware stuff happening with GB, then make the jump.

.dmg.part is not a complete file.. It usually indicates that the entire file has not been downloaded yet. Are you sure you downloaded the entire file? (i recommend updating itunes through  > Software Update

I'm having the same problem. Dreamweaver is supper slow. Uploading and downloads from the server... any server I use two different servers. It times out all the time. Menus are slow too.
I'm on a MAC Pro, 6 gigs of ram no issues with anything else. I have talked to Apple they have checked everything for me. They say it's Dreamweaver. I've noticed the Dreamweaver is talking to the FTP even when I'm not doing anything.
I've tried cleaning out my MAC caches, turning off file check and check out. Still really slow. I've worked with Dreamweaver for 6 years never any issues like this before. 18 seconds to upload a 4 kb file. 11 seconds to download the same file.
