Looking for tablet

Can the adobe reader X be used in a windows 8 tablet?  I am taking a course on line and the etextbooks can only be accessed with Adobe Reader X.  I cannot use Adobe Reader Xl?

There are two different types of Windows 8/8.1 tablets.
(a) Tablets with the Intel-based processor running Windows 8 or 8.1 operating system
Examples: Microsoft Surface Pro (first gen), Microsoft Surface Pro 2 (second gen)
(b) Tablets with the ARM-based processor running Windows RT or RT 8.1 operating system
Examples: Microsoft Surface RT (first gen), Microsoft Surface 2 (second gen)
There are other Windows tablets that are manufactured by Samsung, Lenovo, HP, Dell, etc.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/tablets
You need a tablet of type (a) to be able to run Adobe Reader XI or X (traditional desktop app).  Please note that Adobe Reader XI or X is not compatible with type (b) tablets.
Please be aware...if you get a tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT, your option to install and run traditional desktop apps (that used to run on Windows 7, XP, Vista) would be severely limited.  The Windows RT/RT 8.1 operating system comes with the desktop app version of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and Internet Explorer.  As far as I know, there are no other non-Microsoft desktop apps that are compatible with Windows RT/RT 8.1.
Finally...to answer your question...You can run Adobe Reader XI or X only if you get/have a tablet/laptop/desktop with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8 or 8.1 operating system.
Adobe Reader XI (11) is newer than X (10) and contains more features and bug fixes (including security vulnerability fixes).  If the software requirement for reading your textbooks for the online course is to use Adobe Reader X, you should be able to use Adobe Reader XI instead.
Lastly, Adobe Reader Touch (Windows Store app with "Modern" UI) is not the same product as Adobe Reader XI (desktop app).  Adobe Reader Touch does not support eBooks or "eTextbooks" that are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) as of January 2014.

  • Looking for tablet for 5 year old daughter

I just got the Kindle fire and love it.  Only problem is my daughter does too.  I would like to get her a tablet that can play video(Max and Ruby) and games(sesame street.com).  Kindle has a great marketplace in terms of video and I am looking a tablet where I can either download videos or purchase them.  I would also like to keep it midrange in terms of price.  Any suggestions?

Check out the Leapfrog LeapPad and the Innotab (99.99 and 89.99).  Both are great for kids and have educational games your daughter will love!

  • Looking for note taking software to use with a graphics tablet

    Hello folks,
I am trying to find a software that would allow me to interchangably use typing and writing/drawing on a graphics tablet smoothly.
I'm looking for something that would essentially provide a 'blank sheet of lined-paper' where i can quickly type what my professors are saying, as well as easily draw whatever they are drawing. Also, since I am studying engineering, I would need something that I can easily write math symbols and equations so I can use it as scratch paper.
At the same time, I am looking to save trees and money, as well as keep organized and simplicity when it comes to archiving.
I have tried Microsoft Word 2008's notebook view, and this is currently the closest thing to what I want, but it favors mostly the text side of what I want (of course), and isn't very good in the drawing part. It also isn't very smooth when I try to do practice math/physics/engineering problems on it, nor is it very good at drawing molecular structures (O-Chem)... but for the most part, it gets the job done. It is also a headache because when you zoom in a lot to make it easier to write (mind you, I am using a tiny macbook screen..), the title bar also zooms in, and ends up taking half of the screen, making zooming in practically useless. (the title bar is also locked, so even as you scroll down, it stays in the top half.)
I have also tried Adobe Acrobat Professional 7, where I simply made a blank notebook from some image online, and I use it as scratch paper. When it comes to drawing, it is very smooth, but it's a headache sometimes, because after writing something and pausing for a second or two, the pen tool automatically becomes a 'selector' tool, and so if i want to draw over what I previously wrote, it changes to selector and instead of writing over, it drags and drops the object around a bit. The tolerance for that is really high too, and i'd have to bring the pointer about half an inch or so before I can start writing something again. I also haven't given the text a try yet, but it lets me make collapseable text boxes, so that is good for further annotating my equations and drawings, but isn't very useful for a full-lecture class (i.e. biology)
I also don't even want to consider photoshop, because it's basically too powerful, and I don't want my laptop fans going off in-class (its SUPER loud when it happens...) and I need it to last the day.
    So just a sum up:
I'm looking for a good note-taking software (for mac) that will allow me to smoothly use my graphics tablet AND be able to type.
MS Word '08 and Adobe Acrobat are close... but aren't quite to what I want exactly...
I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet and an '09 Intel-based MacBook.
    Thank you in advance!

I have had this same issue and found this program called NoteBook that allows you to type, and draw (write) notes on a variety of paper types, (lined, graphing, engineering, etc.) and it uses the .nb file type that allows you to save multiple "pages" inside one file in a sort-of "notebook" if you will. It works great, but has several minor disadvantages. I can't change the ink color, I can't change the tip thickness (other than the pressure sensitive option with my wacom graphics tablet), and it doesn't allow you to open pdfs or other documents to inscribe upon. All around though it has been wonderful. There are really no good note taking apps out there...

  • Looking for very simple drawing app for tablet [Solved]

    Hey,
Im running Arch with XFCE on an Asus T91MT tablet/netbook, with a resistive screen & pen.
I'm looking for a very basic, lightweight, tablet-oriented drawing/sketching/doodling app, to make notes, draw ideas/concepts, etc.
I've tried MyPaint, which doesn't work because the screen isn't pressure sensitive (I would only need one pen size anyway), and a few other apps.
SmoothDraw (windows app) is exactly what i'm looking for, but it doesn't install on wine. And wine doesn't help with the "keeping it light" idea, so I would prefer something native.
    Any suggestion is welcome!

  • Looking for an Android Tablet

    Hi there!
I am currently looking for a good Android tablet. i heard of Lenovo because of your very good reputation on netbooks and laptops.
I want to ask bout your IdeaPad A1 Android tablet. It would seem it is still with Android 2.3. Any plans to update it to Honeycomb 3.2 at least?
How can i be confident if lenovo do updates very often unlike other makers?
Is there a newer/updated version of your 7" tab? should i wait?
Where re the speakers located on the A1? does it have some sort of surround sound option?
Does it have full Android market access?
Does the camera do 720p recording @30fps in stereo sound?
does it have the usual wifi. bluetooth, DLNA specs?
how do charge the device? how long is the battery life?
Will it play Divx (.avi) movies?
    Thanks.

This is a user forum, not a Lenovo company resource. We are all just users like you. Lenovo makes two IdeaPad tablets, and a ThinkPad tablet. You are going to have a hard time finding the features you want under $300. The A1 (which is a 7" entry-level tablet) will not come close to meeting your desires. Perhaps others can discuss the K1 and ThinkPad. You probably should be looking at iPad-level equipment.

    battery charger for tablet

I probably shouldn't be telling you this... but most large retail stores that sell tablets also sell the accessories in store for these charges (plug and adapter both) Normally go for about $20-30 bundled.

  • What to look for in a good quality font?

What are some things to look for in a well designed paid or free font? How do I know if it will print nicely? What can I look for after typing some text in Photoshop or Illustrator to ensure that it is high enough quality for printing?
    Thanks.

For print, 300 ppi is actually considered low resolution. High resolution is something about 2400 ppi and up. The average desktop laser printers you can buy today will do 600 ppi, and the high end desktop laser printers will go up to 1200 (sometimes even more).
On the other hand, 300 ppi is currently considered high resolution for a screen. The iPhone 4 for example, has 326 ppi, which is pretty high for a device of that size. In the coming years we will likely see tablet devices match up that resolution (the iPad first gen. has 132 ppi) and probably even surpass it.

  • LV7.1 Strange behavior with Automatic Error Handling occuring when it shouldn't [LV 7.1 Pro on WinXP for Tablet PC's]

[LV 7.1 Pro on WinXP for Tablet PC's]
I recently let a rather large LV app of mine run in the development environment while I was out for a couple of days. Upon returning I found that the app had hung for ~22 hours waiting for an answer to an Automatic Error Handling (AEH) dialog proclaiming an Error 7 in New File without any indication of the VI hierarchy that called New File.  I set about ensuring that AEH dialogs would not pop up and have not been able to discover how I could have possibly received one in the first place.
    Subsequent investigation revealed:
Neither AEH option in Options>Block Diagrams were checked.
Network problems had occurred around the time that the app had hung.  All file paths are network paths when running in the development environment, so the cause of the error was most likely valid, even if the AEH dialog appearance wasn't.
My app has only one instance where the New File primitive is used by me. That subVI and all others above it in the hierarchy DO NOT have the AEH property enabled.  The error out cluster of New File in my subvi is wired.
My app has three instances where New File is called from a vi.lib vi (Open/Create/Replace File.vi, Open Config Data.vi, and Prompt Web Browser Path.vi), none of which have the AEH property enabled.  Nor does any of their calling VI's.  All three instances also have their error out cluster wired.
A utility to examine the AEH property of all VI's (with all top level and dynamic VI's loaded) in memory reported that only 1 of 308 vi's ( RGT Does File Exists.vi from the Report Generation Toolkit) had that property true.  That vi has no subVI's other than the File/Directory Info primitive and no calling VI's in common with any of the vi's that call New File, except a top level VI.
As long as 'Enable automatic error handling dialogs' remains unselected in options>block diagram, I am unable to get an AEH dialog for either the New File or File/Directory Info primitives in a test VI with AEH property enabled and their error out clusters unwired no matter what invalid path I pass to the functions.  As soon as the options>block diagram>Enable AEH dialogs' is selected, both primitives fire AEH dialogs with no error out wired and don't when wired. i.e. works as advertised.
In other words I can find no reason why I should have gotten the problem AEH dialog...
I cannot afford for this app to hang because of a network problem, other portions of the app that were running concurrently correctly handled the error and, had the AEH dialog not appeared, the app would have made corrections or shutdown in an orderly fashion.
    Any ideas?

    Very good.
Write Characters to File.vi>Open/Create/Replace File.vi>New File
New File throws the error.  Open/Create/Replace strips the hierarchy from the source of the error.  Write Characters passes it to the General Error Handler.  I never looked above O/C/R file in the hierarchy except for enable automatic error handling property.  The tip-off should have been to realize that O/C/R file was stripping the hierarchy from the error and look above that.
The real irony is that Write Characters was being used to log error cluster data to an error log file...
Save as... Copy without updating... the OEM 'Write Characters to File' is gone from this app.
    Thanx (a bunch)

  • Is there a way to create a vertical menu for tablet that stays in place?

I am a novice in web design, and I want to make a vertical menu for a tablet page that stays in place.
It should not scroll, and  it has to resize depending on screen size, so it looks the same across different tablet sizes.
Is this possible in Muse? After reading some posts I am getting the feeling this is not possible at all, is that really true?
If it can't be done in Muse, can I do it another  way? In Dreamweaver for instance?
The reason I want this is that in my opinion horizontal menu's for tablets are ergonomically bad design, and just plain annoying. You always have to use two hands, lift one hand and then you probably block the view of the screen.
Vertical menu's for tablets just make more sense since they can be made so that you could place them on the side of the screen so it would be possible to navigate with the hand that is holding that side of the tablet.
I hope someone can help me.

Yes, I am using the widget.
It seems it is not possible to make the menu stick in tablet design (the pin options are greyed out). Nor is it possible to make the menu scale with screen sizes.
A possible solution would be the ability to make it stretch to 100% screen size, like you can with horizontal objects.
I have noticed though, that, for some reason, in web design it is discouraged or very hard to make things stretch 100% vertically. It seems to cause problems, and I don't understand why.
Since I have started in web design, I have seen many posts of people having design problems, where stretching 100% vertically would be the obvious solution.

  • Looking for a good method or APP to have client sign a form in a text box

I am looking for a good method or App to take an existing form/Document and have a client sign, date etc.  I will want to create the text boxes in a stationary location.  Possibly to also take a picture to add to form.
Has anyone used any apps to accomplish this?
    Apps I have tried.
    Signnow
    Sign PDF
    Sign Easy
Sign Easy is about the best except the signatures (text boxes, dates, etc) are free floating and confuse people where to add them on form each time.  Clients have no clue how to use it.
Any suggestions would be helpful.  I may be over complicating this also, as there could just be a PDF app that I utilize.
    Thanks,

  • Looking for a certain application/program

I am most definitly in the wrong forum, but the people who use this forum are probably the most knowlidgable about the application i am looking for.
I have a wacom tablet, and am getting very good at drawings and animation. I was wondering if anyone knew of a program where i can draw on my tablet , and it would record it like a film, so that i could import it in fcp. If anyone knows of this program, a similar program, or a program that includes this feture i would be very interested in knowing what it is?
    Ethan

Another route would be to do it in After Effects.
You wouldn't draw, like what you're describing, but you can create paths that would stroke themselves on. i.e. you'd draw it before hand with the pen tool in After Effects or Illustrator, then stroke your paths, and key frame the end-point to make it look like it 'draws' on.
It's a bit trickier, but then you can make sure there are no mistakes, make is scalable (vector-based), and very smooth.
    Just so you have options.
