Looking to build Premiere machine under $1500

I'm a web video producer/editor and want something that will run Production Premium CS6 reliably. I don't need to most high end machine that will run everything fine and then some. Just looking for something that can do a better than the minimum requirements and will be reliable.
Thanks

Go to http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM and scroll down a page or two for 3 price/performance level computers for Premiere Pro... these are, of course, MY ideas about what to build, if I was building a new computer for myself... YOUR ideas may wind up being different

  • Looking to build a PC for premiere, after effects and photoshop for 600-1200€.

    Hi!
A friendly person in Premiere pro forums guided me to this forum to repost this! Thank you Peru Bob and RoninEdits!
It has been a very long time since I built a PC and I have no idea what parts are good for a work PC for adobe programs!
The PC is mainly for Premiere and photoshop (nothing too hardcore, mostly HD-2K material).
I tried to search for posts here in the forums, but they have also changed so much I can't find anything! (I am such a fossil)
Please help me forum folk! You are my only hope!

Re: Please help with first time PC build
for your budget you are looking at building around an intel i7-4790k and lots of ram, 16gb (2x8gb sticks) or even 32gb (4x8gb sticks).

  • Running  javafx on a 64 bit machine under Windows 7

I want to run javafx on a 64 bit machine under Windows 7. I receive the following log when running simple "Hello World" program:
    init:
    deps-jar:
    compile:
    jar:
    standard-run:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform
BUILD FAILED (total time: 0 seconds)
Looking at sys requirements for javafx, I see that only 32 bit windows is supported. I did, though, succeed in doing a (64 Bit) build within netbeans after added a JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to my JDK directory (from Win 64 bit download).
Please can anyone explain what I need to do so that (preferably) a javafx application runs 64 bit or if no choice how I can direct a 32 bit run without effecting most of the development tools that do support 64 bit?
By the way, when running from command line:
    +"D:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.8\javafx2\javafx-sdk\bin\javafx.exe" -version+
I receive same error as above:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform
    David Ziants

I also tried adding to my system environment path variable: %JAVA_HOME%\bin;%JAVA_HOME%\jre\bin;and this did not help.
    My webstart properties are:
    $label=Web Start
    execution.target=jnlp
javafx.profile=desktopbut I think the matter is more basic because I also receive the same error from the command line:
    "D:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.8\javafx2\javafx-sdk\bin\javafx.exe" -versionas I already mentioned.

  • Backing up an encrypted drive with Time Machine under Snow Leopard

In a nutshell, my question is “Can I back up an encrypted drive using Time Machine under Snow Leopard, and if so, how do I access its data from a previous day?”
I have a 1Tb USB drive connected to my MacBook, which runs Snow Leopard. The drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This drive is included in the drives that Time Machine backs up. I used Disk Utility to create an encrypted drive on the USB drive (998Gb), also formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The encrypted drive is not on TimeMachine’s list of excluded files/drives.
When I go into Time Machine, I can see the USB drive and the encrypted drive in the side bar. I can access the files on the encrypted drive as long as I’m looking at how it stands now. But if I move backward in time, the encrypted drive is grayed out and inaccessible.  If I click on the USB drive, I get a window that tells me it is 75.9Gb in size, and nothing else is available to me.
When I open the back-up drive in Finder and navigate to Backups.backupdb > macbook name > some date and time, I see my MacBook’s hard drive and the USB drive. The encrypted drive is not shown. When I click on the USB drive, I see an entry for drivename.sparsebundle. When I click on that I’m prompted for the password for the encrypted drive. When I enter it, I get a warning telling me that the disk image could not be opened and that the encrypted drive has no mountable file systems.
Is my encrypted drive really be backed-up and if so, how do I access the backed-up data?

Having received a bunch of views but no replies over the last 5 days, I decided to venture into my local Apple store and ask this same question. The response I got from the geniuses was that you can't get a reliable back-up of an encrypted drive using Time Machine under Snow Leopard. So, my only alternative is to copy the encrypted drive's contents elsewhere, unencrypt the drive, and then copy the contents back. This is what I expected, but not what I wanted to hear.

You have it set to run on the WebLogic platform so it is looking up the TransactionManager from JNDI, but are running the test from within the EclipseIDE. Try deploying it to Weblogic and running it there, or change your persistence.xml settings so that it can connect/run outside the server.

Go: Right Click on My Computer (on your desktop) -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
You should have JAVA_HOME set to something like C:\j2sdk1.4.1_05 and CATALINA_HOME set to something like C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.27. You don't need to set a classpath.

  • Webcenter PS3 pre-build virtual machine question

    Experts,
I have following queries regarding VM for web center
    1) What are the limitation of using pre-build virtual machine for development/testing environment compared to standard installation?
    2) What are the webcenter features not supported by pre-build WC VM but is supported in standard installation?
I am thinking of using pre-build WC VM for development and testing environment. So, want to know the limitation before using it.
    Appreciate any help on this.
    Ashish
P.S - Standard installation is installing DB (using RCU), weblogic & webcenter suite.

The pre build is very good for demonstration purpose. You can do some development on it but i don't think this is recommended.
The pre build machine is just a plain installation with a DB, weblogic and webcenter suite. If you create your own VM with the same software, than there is not much difference between the pre build machine.
If you don't plan on using a real server for your development purpose than you can use the pre build machine. I don't know if it is allowed so maybe you should check this with Oracle. There isn't a real difference between an installation that you will do an the pre build machine to technicaly, you could use it... Licence wise... you should check it with Oracle.

If there are a number of Virtual Disk files then Fusion is allocating space for the virtual machine in 2 GB segments
                        Close the Package Contents folder
    3.     If the Snow Leopard virtual machine is segmented then convert it to a single Virtual Disk.vmdk as follows:
                        Start VMware Fusion
Select the Mac OS X Snow Leopard virtual machine
Click Settings > Hard Disk (SCSI)
Click the Advanced options disclosure triangle
Clear 'Split into 2 GB files'

So if the vendor doesn't provide an uninstall program or instructions, we're just stuck with stuff we may no longer need?
Pretty much. You can always erase your hard drive and reinstall the OS. Some people may attempt to talk you through manually deleting files. I try very hard to avoid doing that because 100% of the time, the person I'm trying to help can't find the files and, instead, starts randomly deleting required system files. Then you have no choice but to reinstall the OS.

  • Laptop keeps looking for previous migration machine at start up

Every time I start my machine it keeps looking for my previous laptop which was used to migrate my information. This slows the start up down considerably. It seems to think that this is a server I want to connect to by default and says it is not, understandably, available.
Is there any way to stop this? Thanks

I started in Safe Mode and the problem didn't happen, which was good. However when I returned to normal mode it was back again. I have a Time Capsule which mounts whenever I start up so I also tried starting in normal mode without the wi-fi on to take this out of the equation, but again the machine was still looking for the missing machine.
Since it will startup in safe mode, that tells you that there is some third party software that is attempting to startup in normal that is causing the problem. So now that you know that, you are going to have to start looking at what third party software is causing your problems.

  • Looking to build RenderFarm

    Hi.
I am new to this, but please follow along. I'm looking to build a renderfarm for the following applications:
Final Cut Pro, Motion, Shake, Adobe After Effects, Houdini, Maya, Cinema4D and Compressor.
I would like the system to be cross compatible with Windows and some Linux distros.
Does anyone here have any experience in this field?
    Thank you.

I suggest you start by reading the list of articles that appear when you press the overview tab at the top of the page.
Instead of spending money on an SSD, use the savings from a conventional 7200 SATA disk to get an Intel i7-9xx instead of AMD. Your PSU is pretty weak with a GTX 470, 850 W seems much better. Increase memory to 12 GB (3 x 4GB) and add a third disk. Use Win7 64 Pro instead of Home.
AMD is too slow for AVCHD because of the lacking SSE4.1+ instructions. Look at the PPBM5 Benchmark to see how AMD's do in comparison to Intel.

after reading different posts, it sounded like having a system built from scratch was better than buying an off the shelf computer.  my plan was to store the os and applications on the ssd drive.  is a third HD preferred?  more memory?  i am using sony's HDR-CX350 AVCHD camera.
from reading posts in the forums, there are a lot of experience folks out there.  appreciate hearing from you!  thanks!

  • New at building editing machine need help

So I've been reading the forum and through some research I've seen a good option for a mobo is X58 ASUS P6X58D-E LGA - but I've been reading the plethora of problems and I know me and I am definitely not a tech savvy guy when it comes to making these machines - I was wondering what a good alternative would be as it seems to have nice features like USB 3.0
I am located in toronto canada so I am trying to get parts from  www.canadacomputers.com which is literally just a 10 minute walk away from  me - although some of the parts they don't have so here is my build
    Windows 7 professional
Sentey Arvina Full Tower Case $129
    ASUS ENGTX470/2DI/1280MD5/V2 GeForce GTX 470    $259
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333   $196
ASUS P6X58D-E LGA  but after reading this http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20100429194317906&board_id=1&model=P6X58D+Premium&p age=1&SLanguage=en-us it's kind of made me nervous even with manufacturer tested ones people are still having this issue where 12gigs shows up as 6...so I don't want to wast cash on consistently trouble shooting
    Western Digital Caviar Black (WD1001FALS) 1000GB (1TB) SATAII 7200RPM 32MB Cache (OEM)  $80
    core i7 950
trying to make this low budget i think it came around 1600 something  I already bought the LG dvd/writer drive
    any help would be greatful

That small adjusment that you mention is to increase the ram multi for the
    folow result:
    RAM multi 10= 1333 mhz
    RAM multi 12= 1596 mhz
In both cases we must increase the QPI Link Speed. Its like making OC of the
ram which can be a little complex for a normal user.
About the Latency I cannot say more. Only hope that BillG publishes my
results soon and try with facts more that with words.
Note: all these info is base on a I7 950.

I don’t believe RAM latency is anywhere near as important as your processor
choice. You have devised a good configuration. Its not imperative to over
clock; Premiere CS5 will work great with your configuration! I will
reemphasize, “Know (make sure) people are using your mother board/ RAM
combination successfully” just as an indicator you aren’t climbing out onto
a limb that has never been tried. More RAM is more important than faster
Ram, but with 12GB you will be editing like a madman.
