Lookup in another list when filtering in a view
Hello,
I need help with a public view for a list. This is my filter now:
<View Name="{F9165834-6860-4EB5-A7FE-D96CE334DF70}" Type="HTML" DisplayName="My group - not assigned" Url="/sites/RomaniaL1SD/Lists/Opened tickets/My group not assigned.aspx" Level="1" BaseViewID="1" ContentTypeID="0x" ImageUrl="/_layouts/15/images/generic.png?rev=23" ><Query><OrderBy><FieldRef Name="Modified" Ascending="FALSE"/><FieldRef Name="Requester" Ascending="FALSE"/></OrderBy><Where><And><Eq><FieldRef Name="Assignment_x0020_group"/><Value Type="Text">EMEIA Romania Service Desk Management Level 1</Value></Eq><IsNull><FieldRef Name="Assignment_x0020_Person"/></IsNull></And></Where></Query><ViewFields><FieldRef Name="ID"/><FieldRef Name="Requester"/><FieldRef Name="Short_x0020_description"/><FieldRef Name="Assignment_x0020_group"/><FieldRef Name="Assignment_x0020_Person"/><FieldRef Name="Ticket_x0020_Status"/><FieldRef Name="Ticket_x0020_Priority"/><FieldRef Name="Attachments"/></ViewFields><RowLimit Paged="TRUE">30</RowLimit><Aggregations Value="Off"/><JSLink>clienttemplates.js</JSLink><XslLink Default="TRUE">main.xsl</XslLink><Toolbar Type="Standard"/></View></XmlDefinition>
So this view displays all the items where the Assignment group is "EMEIA Romania Service Desk Management Level 1" and the Assignment person "IsNull".
What I need is to modify this, to filter
by the Assignment group taken from another list and where in that list the person is [Me]
--- I have another list with a 1st Person column, and a 2nd column which contains an Assignment group for each person and this is where I want to look ---
Please let me know if this is feasible from SharePoint Designer.
Kind Regards,
Alex
Hi,
Per my understanding, you might want to filter the current list view with values from other list.
Modifying the CAML statement in SharePoint Designer won’t be capable of this requirement cause we will need to query data from other list.
In my opinion, custom code with CAML query would be required to query the “Assignment group” column and the “Assignment person” from the other list, then apply filter
to the current list view.
A possible solution is that you can use JavaScript Client Object Model to do the query job, with the retrieved values, filter the current list view using JavaScript.
The links below about
accessing list items using JavaScript Client Object Model would be helpful:

Update another list when list is updated
What do you recommend to update another list when the current list is updated.
I have a workflow which updates a Reports list. I also have a favorites list which has 4-5 columns which are in the reports list and I would like to update those values when the reports list is updated. I use a workflow to update the reports list.
ThanksHi CoutinhoR,
You could use your existing workflow to update the favourites list (after it has updated the reports list).
Another way, would be creating an event receiver that updates the favourites list whenever an item in the reports list is added, modified or deleted.
It depends on the functionality you need to achieve. If you are just incrementing the value of the columns for a single item in the favourites list (when a report is updated), then using the existing workflow would probably work best.

Need a list column do a lookup on another list depending on a condtion
i have two lists EMP and SAL
EMP contains
empid empname
e001 abc
e002 xyz
and SAL contains empid, empname and sal columns
i want the list SAL to have the value of empname populated on the corresponding entry of empid which will be retrived from the EMP list. e.g if one enters e002 in SAL list, the value of the empname should be populated with the associated value.
tnxThis can probably be achieved using a lookup column.

Auto numbering Column id and filter this lookup id in another list based on status="active"
Hi,
I am trying to autonumbeirng the column id with default column ID. But it is not reset if i delete the list item. Also i want this id in another column which have status="Active". How i will do this?
Thanks in Advance.
RoopeshHi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to reset the column ID when you delete the list item and then you want to filter the id in another list based on status.
For resetting column id, there is no direct way to achieve it. I suggest you can save the list as a template and recreate the list. ID columns will always keep incrementing and will never be reused.
Here is a similar thread about reset column ID for your reference:

OK, for anyone who has ever programmed a database, this one is easy. However, I am EXTREMELY limited. I work with SharePoint 365 (2013). I am pretty proficient in a number of programing languages, but I really don't know how to program SP. I wouldn't even
know where to put code.
Say, I have two lists: List A, with Items A1 (ID), A2, A3 and List B, with Items B1 (Lookup to A1), B2, B3. What I want this: When I create a new record in List A I want that also an empty record (except for the B:A1 item) is created. Is that possible without
any major programing?you can create a workflow to achieve your requirement

Best practice to code Lookup Field to another list
Hello All,
Wanted to check what is the best way to create lookup field to another list. I have seen blog posts to create using feature receiver and using declarative way, but not able to find out pros and cons for the same. Want this answer urgently.
Rohit PasrijaHi,
Per my understanding, you might want to find a better way to create Lookup field.
Though there are different ways to create Lookup field(declaratively or programmatically), there would be no much difference between them in performance or maintenance.
If going in the declarative way, the whole definition of the field will be hardcoded, user simply need to deploy the solution, Lookup field to a specific list will be there.
If creating the field programmatically, there would be great flexibility when provisioning a field as we will be able to specify the properties dynamically.
Thus, you might need to make a choice depends on the scenario in the actual production environment.
Thanks

Hi!
Version Info: SharePoint 2013 Server Standard (*BTW...I do not have access to Visual Studio*)
I have two lists, let's call them
-Assets
-Asset Checkouts
"Assets" is the parent list, and "Asset Checkouts" has a lookup column (multiselect) which is tied to the serial # column in the "Assets" list.
Basically, what I need to accomplish is this: I would like to be able to select multiple list items in the "Assets" list, and create a new item in "Asset Checkouts", and pre-fill the multiselect lookup column in the NewItem form
for "Asset Checkouts" with the values from the selected items in "Assets".
Any ideas or suggestions on how to do this would be most appreciated!
Thanks!Hi,
According your description, you might want to add new item in "Asset Checkouts" list when selecting items in "Assets" list.
If so, we can achieve it with SharePoint Client Object Model.
We can add a button in the "Assets" list form page, when selecting items, we can take down the values of columns of the selected items, then click this button which will create
new item in "Asset Checkouts" list with the values needed.
Here are some links will provide more information about how to achieve it:
Use
SP.ListOperation.Selection.getSelectedItems() Method to get the list items being selected

Add ListItem with Lookup Field using Client Object Model (ECMA)
http://notuserfriendly.wordpress.com/2013/03/14/add-listitem-with-lookup-field-using-client-object-model-ecma/
Or if you just want to refer to the other columns in "Assets" list when add new item in "Asset Checkouts" list, we can insert the "Assets" list web part into the NewForm page
of the "Asset Checkouts" list, then when we add new item in the "Asset Checkouts" list, we will be able to look through the "Assets" list before we select values for the Lookup column.
To add web part into the NewForm.aspx, we need to find the button "Default New Form" from ribbon under "List" tab, then we can add web part in the NewForm.aspx.
In the ribbon, click the button “Default New Form”:
Then we can add web part into NewForm.aspx:

When I switch on my new iPad it asks me to move the slider to begin set-up. A list of languages appears and I tick English then NEXT. Another list of languages appears and the only thing to do is press the home button or BACK. I press BACK and it returns to the first list. I press the home button and a message appears saying that SET-UP was not completed do you wish to retry or continue. I press CONTINUE and nothing happens I press RETRY and it goes back to the message. What am I doing wrong or do I need to connect to I-Tunes to set-up ?

Can I perform a lookup to verify the value of a variable is contained in another list column?
I am working in Sharepoint Designer and am trying to figure out how I can set a condition in an approval workflow to only complete a task if the value of a variable is contained in another list column. So if I had a list called A with column
A1 and I am working in the approval workflow, I only want the approval to complete if my variable is equal to any value in list A column 1. Otherwise I want to keep the approval task pending. I am very new to sharepoint so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.Hi,
You can use the condition "if any value equals value". Please refer below links for reference.

Lookup Attachment from another list
I am looking to have an attachment field linked to another list in InfoPath 2010. How can I set up the data connection? Thanks!
David L. CrooksHi David,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use an attachment field linked to another list (like “Link from SharePoint”) in InfoPath form. Is it right?
Per my knowledge, there is no OOB way to achieve it. I suggest you develop a custom control in InfoPath to do it.
For developing customizations in InfoPath, I suggest you create a new thread on Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) forum, more experts will assist you with Office development.

Hi,
Is it possible to create nested lists in Sharepoint 2013?
My requirement is to create a list for some groups like (group1, group2,group3 etc..).
This list will have 3 columns for group name, type and description.
And when a group is selected I want to see another list in it with some columns like user properties.
Is this possible? I am a SharePoint power user, so please excuse if this is an unusual question!
ThanksYou can't nest lists.
However you can have lookup columns which bring data from other lists. This basic relational structure may grant what you want.
Alternatively, Managed Metadata fields can be used to create a hierarchy several levels deep.

SP2013 Cascading Lookup in a List
Hello all
I am trying to advertise to my business how SharePoint metadata can replace traditional folder structures, but before I can do this, i need to be able to showcase a multiple level cascading lookup on columns in a list to achieve this.
Now, looking online I have seen various tutorials as to how you do this:
InfoPath - works only on one level
SPCascade - doesnt work in SP2013
Basically, the structure I wanted was:
Level 1
Level 2 - dependent on selection in level 1
Level 3 - dependent on selection in level 2
Level 4 - dependent on selection in level 3
Level 5 - dependent on selection in level 4
Any idea how I can achieve this?
Thanks!while the view itself can't have the filter pre-defined (stupid, i know)... if the taxonomy column is included in the view, users can filter based on a term, and can choose to include descendent terms.
When a user manually filters the data, the filters are specified in the URL... so you could link directly to those special URLs, which just puts manual filters into the view

Lookup Column Issue - List View Threshold exceeded
We use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and we have 2 Lists in a site. Those are:
1. Customers List.
2. Sale Invoices List.
Customers List has Title field as Unique & Indexed Column.
Sale Invoices List has a lookup column (i.e., Customer) from the Customers List (Title).
My issue is:
Customers List has just crossed 5000 items. When I try to add a List Item in Sale Invoices List (where I have Lookup Column from Customers List), it throws an error as given below:
Error Message:- This is a lookup column that displays data from another list that currently exceeds the List View Threshold defined by the
administrator (5000). To add items to the current list, please ask the list owner to remove this column.
I have increased temporarily the List View Threshold Limit to 6000 Items. It’s working fine now.
Is there any solution to fix the issue without increasing the List Items Threshold Limit?
Thanks in Advance.Hi Sri,
If this activity (adding item) is done programmatically, then we can set
SPList.EnableThrottling = false
but this approach is not recommended though.
Please let us know if this fixes your issue.

CQWP does not return result for a specific query when filtering on a managed metadata field.
Hi,
We are facing a serious production issue. We've search the web extensively but to no avail.
Problem:
CQWP does not return result for a specific query when filtering on a managed metadata field.
ULS log:
The Uls logs provides 3 different messages that I could relate to every time the query is executed. The last item(level Medium) is displayed 14 times. For readability I've moved the ULS logs to the bottom of this question.
Query:
The query is as follows:
(I've translated this from dutch so pardon any typo's)
Query: (top selection) Display items from all sites in the site collection
ListType: Documentlibrary
Contenttype:
Items from this group:Custom Document Contenttypes
Items from this content type: Verklaring
Filter: Soort is equal to X
extra info: the field soort (Type) is a managed metadata field that was assigned the value X
Managed Metadata Structure:
-managed metadata service
-Contoso
-Enterprise Taxonomy (term set)
-Document (term)
-Verklaring (term)
-Soort (term)
-x (term)
EXTRA INFO:
When I modify the filter to filter on Title the CQWP DOES return the correct document!
When I modify the query settings to search a specific library the CWQP also does return the correct document! (In this case I am filtering on a managed metadata field).
QUESTION:
Why doesn't the CQWP return the document when filtering on a managed metadata field over the entire site collection.
Why does the CQWP return the document when filtering on a managed metadata field over a single library.
(The type of information the CQWP should return (Soort:x) is stored in a dozen document libraries!)
Here are the ULS logs.
