Looping Restart in Early Intel iMac after recent 10.5 update

My friend's iMac is stuck in a restart loop after downloading the latest update for her 10.5 system. She hadn't installed an update for about 4 months so I am not sure what update would have caused the loop. Her computer was working fine before the update so I am picking it is a software issue.
Having searched the forums I haven't come up with people experiencing a similar problem.
_*What is happening:*_
Hit the startup button, it hangs in the white Apple logo screen with the spinning icon for five to ten minutes ... then it automatically restarts itself returning to the same loop over and over again.
_*What I have done:*_
1. Tried a PRAM reset ... no change
2. Tried an Install Disc restart with the 'C' key ... it starts alright but then says this is the wrong disc for the computer. I can't find my Leopard install disc. I will have a better look for it soon.
3. Tried connecting it as a target drive ... I just get a blank white screen
_*A further problem:*_
I was going to reset her computer off her Time-machine backup but when I checked it out it would not allow me into it saying I did not have permissions ... which means any reinstall of the system will not be able to access her time-machine.
Any ideas of what I should try? I will try to find my Leopard install disc and do the reboot off it. I think that is my best bet at the moment.

OS X Yosemite v10.10.3 Update - I had problems with my iMac after installing the previous update and I removed that update.  Have there been problems associated with this update ?

I've been using it on all of my computer without any problems. Remember you won't see any positive comments here. Everyone here is complaining about a problem. If you want a good experience with any upgrade or update first make a backup from which you can boot the computer. If you are installing an update, like 10.10.3 for example, always download and install the Combo Updater - OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update. Before you install any update or upgrade over an existing system you should do this:Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

    Thanks for the help

Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

After recent windows 7 updating Adobe reader has stopped to run. Do you know solution?

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • 27" iMac very sluggish after recent software/firmware update

I bought my 27" iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM) maybe 6-7 months ago...and it has had NO problems. Even after updating to Lion. Smooth.
But after the most recent graphics firmware update (Feb 29) and software update (late Feb/ealry March 2012...can't remember exact date)...now my iMac is so sluggish! Running more than one application really makes my iMac run slow. And I'm not talking about Photoshop...I'm talking about Firefox, Safari, Mail, iTunes. Basic ones. Especially bad when I play video...very choppy.
Any clue what's going on? I ran Disk Utilitiy (all good, repaired permissions), Clean My Mac, CCleaner...all say good and healthy. So I am at a loss.
Any help would be greatly be appreciated. I'm still under warranty...but I don't think I need to bring it in do I?
    Thanks!

  • No 802.11n on early Intel iMac under Snow Leopard

    Hello,
After installing Snow Leopard on my white Intel iMac (first Intel iMac model) I have lost 802.11n functionality. I had to patch the iMac under Leopard with the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler to get 802.11n working (http://store.apple.com/uk/product/D4141ZM/A). Snow Leopard appears to of changed the Airport Extreme settings, and under system profiler it just shows: ‘Supported PHY Modes as 802.11 a/b/g’
I can no longer use the 802.11n enabler under Snow Leopard as it comes up with an error message "You cannot install AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." - this is due to an Airport Extreme 2007-002 upgrade being required (http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortExtreme_Update_2007002), which also won't install under Snow Leopard.
Help! Is this a known issue and will Apple be releasing a Snow Leopard compatible 802.11n enabler? OR, is there a work around/fix under Snow Leopard.
Essentially, accessing my home server for work is a nightmare as 802.11g is just not fast enough for the media files I work with.
All help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Graham Johnson.

I am a bit confused as to which iMac you are trying to use with 802.11n.
You say that you have the first white iMac that was Intel. But the first three white Intel iMacs do not have 802.11n capabilities; neither the Early '06 Core Duo, the Mid '06 Core Duo, nor the Late '06 Core 2 Duo CD have AirPort Extreme cards capable of 802.11n. But you profile is showing a 2.16 GHz iMac C2D which is Late '06 and does have the AirPort Extreme card with 802.11n capabilities.
Is that the Mac that now appears to have lost this capability?
What does Apple say? Did you buy Apple Care? Is it still in its last weeks of warranty?

  • How do I get sound to work on my early 2009 iMac after upgrading to Yosemite?

The sound on my early 2009 iMac has stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite from 10.6.8.
It still makes sound when I boot it up, so I don't think this is a hardware issue.

    Hi qhaine,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having trouble hearing sound from the iMac speakers. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Cannot boot my Intel iMac after installing Snow Leopard on an external USB

I have an Intel iMac with Snow Leopard installed. I have several FW and USB external drives. When I installed Snow Leopard from the Apple install disc on one of the USB drives to act as a backup the system rebooted and the Apple logo appeared and then the spinning gear wheel. After a while the logo was replaced by a circle with a line through it. I booted back into the install disc and tried Startup Disc from Utilities and selected Macintosh HD with the same result. Then I restored the system on my internal drive (Macintosh HD) from Time Machine. Still no luck. Does any one have any ideas before I reformat and reinstall from the SL installer disc?

Thanks for the replies. I was under the impression that Intel Macs can be booted with a USB drive
I just learned today that this is true from one of our Level 4's. PPC macs can't boot on USB drives and I thought that carried over to Intel, but I was wrong.
    Didn't mean to misinform you!
Ultimately, I reformatted my internal drive, reinstalled the OS and did a restore from my latest Time Machine backup with Migration Assistant. I didn't lose any data but the restore process took 3+ hours.
    Great! Glad you had success!

  • Help with re-starting my intel imac after 10.4.6 installation?

    Hey guys,
I am a UK intel imac user and I have a problem. I upgraded to 10.4.6 via software update this morning and everything seemed to be loading OK. On returning to the computer 5 minutes later I discovered an error message saying that update had failed. I then looked at the version tab under 'About this Mac' and it said 10.4.6. I then thought the best thing to do was simply re-boot. I now have a DOS screen with the following:
    Darwin/BSD (JOnathan-Baileys-Computer--2.loc) (Console)
    Login:
I have tried simply re-booting again as well as typing in my user ID and password to no avail? On typing in my user ID etc I get a blue start up screen and then I get the DOS screen again.
    Any suggestions?
Incidently I forgot to remove my Audio Interface from the Firewire connection is this what probably caused the machine to throw a major tantrum?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Jon Bailey (UK)

    Hi boxlight,
No, you are not the first to mention the issues you are now experiencing with the 10.4.8 update...
Here's what I would try: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateintel.html - you can run the Combo Update and see if that "fixes" any issues. There have been posts re: using the Combo Update which ended up fixing some software glitches...
You can also go here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/maintscripts.html#Anchor-Manually-49575 - I use the Terminal method to run the Maintenance Scripts and my Mac runs better than new...
    Good luck, Rick

  • Snow Leopard for Early Intel iMac 2006 - Worth it?

    I was curious....
I wonder if anyone could tell me if going to Snow Leopard from Tiger on a mid 2006 Intel iMac would be worth the money and trouble. The upgrades on some of my apps are tempting, but would there be a significant difference in performance?
I know my Mac, with its Intel Core Duo, is 32 bit. Does Snow Leopard really boost speed and performance on a a 32 bit chip, as opposed to 64?

"I with the (mad) hatter. I prefer be as sure as I can that I don't bring any existing problems forward to a new system--especially Sno (i.e., Sno seems to generate some exceptionally hard problems to solve)."
    Hi Ghost:
That's what good backups (clones) are for. Also if you are unsure of your 10.5 integrity, an archive
and install will fix any problem before upgrading to Snowie. That may seam like overkill, and in some cases it may very well be. It just depends on how complex your 10.5 install is. Mine
consisted of over 200 apps. I use my machine for web development. It just isn't practical to do
a clean install. Spending two weeks or more (off and on) getting everything back somewhere close
to working order is just not acceptable at all. Migration assistant leaves a lot to be desired too
when you try to migrate a installation such as mine. It will break registration on just about every
    piece of software in sight.
If you use your computer just to surf the 'net, chit chat, email and play songs and movies, then by
all means do a "clean install" and migrate or reinstall the rest.

  • Problems after recent slew of updates

After the recent mass of updates through pacman...I have a few problems. My UPS monitor applet doesn't show up in the taskbar anymore...however it's still being detected, and I can view the status of it w/ "apcaccess status". Another problem I'm having is now ALSA's PCM channel is all messed up again. I've tried the usual fix...blacklisting all the sound modules except for the sound card driver and snd-pcm-oss...but that doesn't work either. Anybody else seeing these problems as well??

Update: Found a fix for the mouse sensitivity issue. The new xorg server includes new options to put into your xorg.conf file. More information can be found here: http://www.x.org/wiki/Development/Docum … 34190b732d .
As far as the option I put into my xorg.conf file to fix it was this:
    Option "ConstantDeceleration" "3"
Hope this helps people in the future.

  • Unsupported Image Format after recent Digital Raw Update..?

I think there is a serious bug in the most recent digital camera raw update.. Though I am not sure if it's a 10.5.6 update issue or the recent camera raw update (v2.4)... The problem is didn't launch aperture between these so I don't know..
I have a Leica V-Lux 1 camera. The RAW format for this camera has been supported since leopard came out. However, in a effort to save space I always convert my leica raw files to DNG. This hasn't been a problem for me and things have worked fine... However, after this update I am receiving the dreaded unsupported image format.. What is interesting however, is that this is only for my DNG converted RAW files in aperture.. Those files which I didn't convert to DNG and remain in raw (i have a few) don't have this message. This is serious, I have lost access to my entire collection of pictures as a result..

The solution to fix this was to restore the 2.3 camera update (RawCamera.bundle) file using time machine. I will have to report this to apple bug reporter as this is a clear problem with 2.4 update and easily reproducible.

  • Slideshow crashes Lr5 after recent Creative Cloud Update

The tital says it all.  Just started after the recent (Monday?) update to Creative Cloud.  Running OS X Mavericks on a spring 2010 15" MBP.
Crash reports automatically submitted to Adobe.

    Thanks Suzanne and BigCPixelBender.
I've found a workaround, but it may only be temporary.
I had already tried the last forum link you sent Suzanne, but without success. Then I came across another suggestion; someting along the lines of...  clean out all Adobe prefs files, or delete them and re-install them... but it wasn't clear from the post. However as I was pondering this I came across the actual dynamiclinkmanager folder during one of the Library/preferences searches I did, so I:
    1)  copied the dynamiclinkmanager folder to my desktop, then
    2)  deleted the dynamiclinkmanager folder from where it was located.
This seems to have done the trick with Lightroom 5. But I can't gurantee this has worked fully - more testing will tell. And I'm wondering if I'll have trouble linking from one ADOBE App to another down the track.
    We shall see!
    Thanks for all your help!!
