Losing network connection on T61 but still showing that I am connected

Hello All,
I am having network connection issues with my T61. On any network I connect to, my downloads will randomly stop, or videos I am watching will stop loading, same with online radio, etc...
The connection will resume after about 30 seconds of being lost but is a major pain especially if I am on a vpn and have to log back in.
My network connection never reports any problems and the icons still show that I am connected.
I have reinstalled all my drivers, ran multiple spyware/virus detection, and tried to trace my network activity with no luck.
The interesting part is that if I am using skype voice my issues disappear. It seems as though the deluge of packets sent by skype forces my connection to stay alive.
Any thoughts? (other than talk to someone on skype all day)
Edit: This happens while using wireless and LAN connection

Make sure data roaming and cellular data is turned off.  If you don't want to receive calls or SMS then put your phone in airplane mode and reactivate WiFi

I HIGHLY suggest He create a new AppleID for himself.
He can do it now then simply use the new AppleID when he gets the iPhone.
Best suggsetion its to have a computer login for him wtih is own iTunes and then he will have his own contacts, calendars and all other data.
He can do that now & set up iCloud then when he gets the phone, he can simply enter his AppleID and its done.

  • My iPhone 4S shows that I am connected to wifi, but still shows 4G and not the bars for wifi.

I have been using my iPhone 4S for one year and has been working perfectly fine until now. I connect it to wifi and it shows the blue check, showing I am supposed to be connected, but at the top, where the 4G network shows, it stays at 4G and does not show the bars for the wifi. It only connects to the one home network I have. When I am connected to the home wifi, it kicks me off the wifi everytime I put my phone on standby--> lock it after I am done using it. It also kicks me off my home wifi occasionally, when I am in the middle of using it, and have to recconect it. If I go to a store, for example, JcPenny, I try to connect it to the wifi there and it shows the blue check, and like I said, the 4G network does not change to the wifi bars. Please try to help me!

You are detecting the wifi, but not connected to it.

  • Airport quits but still shows all bars while connected to DSL and internet

When I hit a link on the net, using safari, or mail, I often get a message..Safari cant open the page because your computer isn't connected to the internet. Airport is showing all the bars. The only way I can get it working again is to disconnect using internet connect ant then reconnect. Sometimes that doesn't even work. Sometimes I try new location or diagnostics. I spend more time trying to get back on the net. Am frustrated.

Hi MrcB, and a warm welcome to the forums!
In Network>TCP/IP tab, what does it list for IP & Server IP?
Do you have any extra USB things plugged in?
Are you running from Battery or A/C?
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
PS. if these things don't help... It's quite acceptable to start a new topic of your own, feel free to start a new topic to attract more helpers to your particular situation, here's a link if as is often the case, it's hard to find out where to do it...

I don't see an issue, but if you mean why didn't you get most of your memory back you need to see what else is using storage. Go to Settings/General/Usage. Wait a bit for it to calculate storage allocation, then when it finishes you can see how much storage each app uses.

You might want to try resetting your router and your modem - just unplug the cords, leave them unplugged for about 3-5 minutes and then replug the modem and then the router in that order.
This may or may not correct your problem - call back if it doesn't.

When you say it "can not scan any wifi network" do you mean it is not detecting Wi-Fi networks?
Is Wi-Fi turned on in Settings > General > Wi-Fi?
Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
Is it just the home network that the device will not connect to? or any network?

    Hi there amalrockzz,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap  and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Unable to access the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi
If you're using a public or commercial network, you may need to log in or subscribe.
Check to see if you have a self-assigned IP address:
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected and tap .
If your IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx, you may not be able to access the Internet.
If you do not have a self-assigned IP address, see if other Wi-Fi devices on your network have Internet access.
If they do not, consult with your network administrator or ISP for further assistance.
If they do, reset network settings on your device by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
    Additional Information
Find information on connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
Some third-party routers may not be compatible with all iOS devices, even after updating to the latest firmware. If your iOS devices can successfully connect to other Wi-Fi networks, contact your router's manufacturer to ensure that your router is compatible with your iOS device.
See recommended settings for configuring your Wi-Fi router for use with iOS devices.

  • Aebs stops working, but still shows green light

I will be connected to the aebs when it will suddenly and without warning disappear. No wireless devices can see the aebs and anything connected via ethernet loses its connection. The device still shows a solid green light, but it must be unpluggeed and replugged to reset it. Sometimes it will come back for a couple of days, sometimes only for a few minutes or even seconds. Originally I was having problems with a wireless telephone, but I replaced that and it seemed to be fine for awhile. Is it possible I just have a bad aebs?

Version 7.2.1 (as far as I know latest firmware and software, nothing newer is found with software update)
    Airport base station agent 1.2.2
    Airport Utility 5.2.2
    Apple80211Agent 5.0.1
    Mac OS 10.5.1
bought this iMac new about a month before the latest iMacs. there is one other iMac and sometimes Windows machines on the network, plus iphones, playstation 3 and wii (but those connections are intermittent). There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to what is connected to the network when it goes out.
    Using WPA/WPA2 encryption 9 characters.
The SSID also stops broadcasting when it goes out.
    Thanks,

  • My iPad shows that it's connected to the Wifi, but cuts off during certain apps.

My iPad shows that it's connected to my home network, and it works. Sometimes.
After a bit of time, it just randomly disconnects, and I can't use the internet anymore, even though it says it's still connected to the network. This can be temporarily solved by turning off wi-fi and turning it on again, but the problem starts again a few seconds later.
This only happens on my home network, and not other networks.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
