Losing objects when producing a pdf

CS5, Mac, 10.5.8
I have a page with 5 photos and type, grayscale photos and spot color stroke around the photos. Inverse rounded photos.
When I produce any type pdf with bevel and emboss added to the photos they disappear in the pdf. In InDesign transparency flattner preview the photos turn red indicating they are affected. I have tried placing the photos on different layers with no luck. I'm sure there is an easy fix for this but I'm out of ideas.

I have narrowed it down to the photo frame but I am as puzzled as ever.
I can create a new frame and import the photoshop grayscale file with 1 pt. rule and bevel and emboss and it will pdf fine. If I copy and paste the old frame from my other ID document with same rule and bevel and emboss and paste right beside the new frame it does not print to pdf but the new does. If I remove the bevel and emboss on the old frame it will then show up.
I created a IDML file and opened a new file with same results. I resaved the Photoshop file (.psd). I created a new object style from the new frame and applied it to the old frame but no change. There is an override (+) when the new object style is applied to the old frame but I can't find what it is. I can clear it with no change. Whatever the override is must be the problem, but I can't find it or even override it with a good profile. The (+) will go away but it still does not work.
I duplicated the old (bad) frame, deleted the contents, copied the contents from the good frame, plasted into with no success. I deleted the placed file, still not even the old frame will print to pdf. If I turn OFF the bevel and emboss on just the frame it will print.
I deleted the stroke from the old frame with just photo and bevel and emboss and it will not print.
I have been through all the object style options for both good and bad and I can find no difference between the old and new frames, except the new will print to pdf successfully and old will not. If I remove the bevel and emboss the old will print.
My brain hurts.

  • Missing objects when exporting to PDF

    I have seen some discussions on this, but no solution. I am using Indesign CS5.5 all up to date. Every now and then I end up with an exported PDF that does not have all the pages objects, text or elements included on all the pages. This seems to occur more often when I am doing a data merge and end up with 750 or 1000 page file. It also seems to be master page items. All Master page items do make it into the merged data file just fine, but then do not make it to the exported pdf. It leaves me scratching my head. The first, two, or three pages of the pdf will be fine, it's when you start scrolling through the document that you realize that items are missing. And for me, the first time was after printing a rush job, and finding the problem.

    I create the merged indesign file from the data merge panel. I then merge all records to a new indesign file. All items are created in the new indesign file. Master page items no problem. It's when I then export to pdf that I have the problem of missing ojects, text and so forth in the pdf. Usually the problems show up around page 3 and after. For some reason the first two or three pages will show fine. I have learned to be very careful about assuming that the pdf is correct.
    I am using a mac mini 10.7.5 with Adobe Creative Premium Suite 5.5, all applications are up to date. Mac OSX is showing up to date as well.

  • Losing javascript when opening a PDF in Livecycle 8

    I have built some computed fields in a PDF document that are mathmatical in nature with javascript.  The fields display the difference in two fields or display nothing if the initial field is empty.  Here is the script -
    var sp = this.getField("Start PageRow1.0");
    var ep = this.getField("End PageRow1.0");
    if ( sp.value > 0 )
    event.value  = (ep.value +1) - sp.value
    else {
    event.value = " "
    So with this if the number 1 is in the var SP and the number 5 is in the var EP the resulting value is 5
    When I try to opne this in Livecycle, to added some calendar functions for date fields my javascript gets messed up
    Any suugestions ?

    The document is a form, from Excel
    I was trying to use Livecycle only for the calendar functions, but that is where I found Livecycle didn't like my javascript

  • How do I suppress the blue colouring of a bibliographic hyperlink when producing a pdf from LaTeX?

    I need to produce a b+w pdf for a dissertation or the printshop will charge a colour fee for all pages with even a whiff of colour.  I can't seem to find a way of suppressing the colour in LaTeX neither can i remove it from the resulting pdf.

    It might be easy. There's just not a Reader solution.

  • Why am I losing quality when exporting to PDF from Numbers?

    Hi guys, so I need to export a fairly large table I have to PDF so that I can get it into the report. It looks beautiful in Numbers, and then when I go to print, size it the way I want it, save as PDF, I get a crappy looking table....Lines have just randomly disappeared or faded. What is going on and how do I fix this?! It looks great in Numbers, I don't understand why it should look any different when I print to PDF.... Here is a screen shot inside Numbers, notice the lines look perfect....then a screen shot after exporting in Preview, notice how some of the lines are totally gone. You'll see the rows for "depth" have a dotted line to dived them....in preview the dotted line just disappears in one spot, but not in another. It's totally random and I've no idea how to fix it....

    Hi randiceleste,
    How are you applying that dotted Cell Border?
    Using 1 point dotted Border below a row in Numbers:
    Then Menu > File > Print... > Print... > PDF > Save as PDF
    What point size are you applying?

    We have PDF manuals that are created with FrameMaker 9.0.4.  Since we updated Adobe Reader to version XI users have been receiving "Expected a dict object" when opening the PDF manual using PDF Reader XI plugin in IE 8.   The manual does open if we disable the plugin.  The PDF manual is located at: http://www.otda.ny.gov/resources/fiscal-reference/FRM-3.pdf
    Is this a problem with the plugin or with FrameMaker?  We already tried Repairing the Adobe Reader Installation and there are no updates for FrameMaker

  • Finding ligature text in PDF when produced from InDesign CS4

    When searching the PDF, some words are not found. If I search the word "final", I find 19 occurences of the word "finally", but none whatsoever of "final". The word "final" is only found if I search for "fi nal" with a space between the "i" and "n". I previously suspected a ligature problem. Please provide me a solution and it will be greatly appreciated.

    Sathishkumar K

    I'll repeat what we (Adobe) have advised users about since release 1.0 of InDesign.
    The print function of InDesign is exactly what it claims to be. In the case of printing to PostScript printers, InDesign and the underlying Adobe graphics subsystems generate PostScript that is optimized for direct and efficient printing without any consideration whatsoever for any other purpose such as creation of PDF via distillation of PostScript.
    The PDF export function generates PDF directly without any intermediate PostScript. This allows PDF to be created that retains live transparency, color management, layers, and accessibility if desired or specified. Such PDF is also generated in a manner such that it may be properly searched in Reader or Acrobat via inclusion of information that compensates for common ligatures and the actual encoding of the text and fonts in the PDF file; this is not possible with PDF generated by distillation of PostScript produced from InDesign because simply stated, such capabilities are not possible with PostScript! By the way, the inclusion of such information and support for PDF functionality one normally expects to find in Reader or Acrobat (including searchability, object metadata, etc.) is one of the major reasons why PDF files created by PDF export (and save as PDF in Illustrator) are larger than those brain-dead PDF files created by distillation of PostScript.

  • When saving a pdf the objects on the page appear offset of the page boundries.

    This happens mostly in illustrator but it just happened again to me while printing a .ps booklet out of indesign and converting to a pdf using distiller.
    See the image below:
    The left shows my InDesign Document. On the right is the pdf that results from the save. As you can see the page boundaries are being completely disregarded when saving the pdf and everything is equally shifted down and to the right.
    Here is an example of me having the same problem in illustrator:
    As you can see there is sometimes zero correlation between what is on the artboard and what page the objects end up on in the pdf.
    This problem also has another strange symptom, it seems to have to do with dragging images from firefox onto an artboard in illustrator. The image is place automatically in the center and all objects in the file move together in one direction. see before and after photos below:
    Before:
    After image dragged in:
    You can even continue to drag images in and it will move in the same direction the same amount every time:
    I'm running Adobe CS6 on OSX 10.9.1.
    Thanks in advance!

    In so many words: We can't know. You have not provided any details about your exact settings, what version of Acrobat, your placed images, color settings, color profiles and a million other things including perhaps providing your test fioles for inspection by other people. That aside simply ask in teh relevant ID/ AI/ Acro/ PDF forums. This place here is a dead place and only meant for general sales, install and activation questions, not specific workflow questions.

  • 'Failed to create object' when trying to open PDF attachment in Dynamics GP 10 OLE notes

    Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 users who updated to Adobe Reader X are getting errors when trying to open or create an OLE attachment on a note.
    They get 'Failed to create object' when trying to open an existing and getting 'Failed to connect.
    And " Link may be broken" when trying to create a new one.
    PDF attachments work pretty fine with previous version of Acrobat reader 7,8,9 up tp 9.4
    Now that we install Acrobat X, something has changed.
    It only does this for PDF attachments, Other file types work fine.
    I was able to remove Adobe Reader X and install a prior version to work around the issue.
    Has Adobe developed any Fix for the integration of X and OLE objects.
    regards,

    Hi Gestis,
    What version of Adobe Reader are you using?
    If its less that 10.1.2, please update it to 10.1.2 and then try to open PDF attachment inDynamcs GP OLE notes.

  • Objects missing when exporting to PDF, but show up when printing to PDF

    Hi - I'm working with someone, both of us in InDesign CS4, and she has some documents that cause a few random objects to just go missing when exported to PDF (same on my computer). But when printing to PDF, they show up fine. They also show up fine if we recreate each individual object, but that can end up being a lot of work. She prefers to export to PDF because of quality. I'm drawing a blank on this one!
    The attached file shows the issue. The green blocks just don't want to show up when exporting.

    Peter -
    The links are just the PDFs of the black and white portions and don't really matter too much since they show up fine when exporting or printing to PDF. Our main concern is the green blocks, which are indeed the green areas of the plan you pointed out. They are actually separate objects created directly within InDesign that can be moved and adjusted.
    I just updated to 6.0.4 and that didn't help. I wonder if this may be a variant of the bugs I was reading about with master pages and certain things not showing up when creating PDFs or printing (even though none of these things are on the master page)?
    Thanks

  • Finding ligature text in PDF when produced from InDesign CS5

    Hi everybody,
    Can you please any one help me on the below issue.

    These problems are difficult, and details matter a lot.
    EXACTLY how are you generating the PDF, and exactly what tools are you using to view and search it?
    What versions of the tools, and what version numbers of the operating systems?
    Can you share the files with us?
    Lilia, I don't think it's fair to spread Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) about ligatures. They're an important typographical element that works well for many people. If there's a problem with it, we should figure it out and get it fixed rather than ignoring it and pushing it on to the next generation.

  • Scanning always produces invalid PDF files

    I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet 4636, and I notice that when scanning documents to PDF, the generated PDF files are always invalid. When opening these files in Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro, one gets the message "The file is damaged but is being repaired." Many other PDF tools can't open the files at all.
    I have installed the newest firmware update and restarted the printer, but the problem was not solved.
    I tried many different settings (e.g., resolution, paper size, scan from ADF, scan from Glass), but the problem is always the same. For the record, I am using the "Web scan" interface: http://XX.XX.XX.XX/#hId-pgWebScan.
    If there were an opportunity to attach a file to this bug report, I would attach an actual PDF file generated by this printer. I am happy to supply the file later, and I will refer to this specific file in my analysis of the bug below.
    I am familiar with Adobe's PDF definition:
    PDF Reference, sixth edition. Adobe Portable Document Format
    Version 1.7, November 2006. Abobe Systems Incorporated.
    I examined the PDF file in detail and it is quite clear what the bug is. Object 1 of the PDF file starts at byte offset 10, and it is a stream object containing the main image data in compressed JPEG format. The Length field for the stream object (at byte offset 168) is set to 1051875. However, the actual compressed stream data is only 64914 bytes long.
    This is incorrect, because the PDF Reference (Section 3.2.7, p.61, "Stream Extent") specifies that "If the stream has a filter, Length is the number of bytes of encoded data." (emphasis in original). In other words, the stream length should be set to 64914, which is the length of the JPEG encoded data, and not 1051875 (which is presumably the length of the raw unencoded image data).
    Moreover, four of the entries in the PDF xref table (at offset 65504) are incorrect:
    the byte offset for object 2 is given as 1052085 (actual location of object 2 is 65124);
    the byte offset for object 3 is given as 1052140 (actual location of object 3 is 65179);
    the byte offset for object 4 is given as 1052206 (actual location of object 4 is 65245);
    the byte offset for object 5 is given as 1052383 (actual location of object 5 is 65422).
    Also, the PDF startxref pointer (at offset 65674) points to 1052465, whereas the actual location of the xref table is byte offset 65504.
    Note that in all six cases, the error is exactly equal to the difference between the declared stream length (1051875) and the actual stream length (64914):
    1051875 - 64914 = 986961
    1052085 - 65124 = 986961
    1052140 - 65179 = 986961
    1052206 - 65245 = 986961
    1052383 - 65422 = 986961
    1052465 - 65504 = 986961
    It looks like this is a simple programming error in the printer's PDF generation software: all the offsets are computed as if the length of the embedded image stream were 1051875, whereas it is actually 64914.
    I scanned at different page sizes, resolutions, and so on. Each time, the actual byte offsets were slightly different (depending on the length of the encoded image stream), but the above relationships still hold in each case.
    Please fix this! It is not really acceptable for an HP scanner to produce broken PDF files. Thanks, -- Peter

    Hi @Selinger
    One of the important things to point out is that the Webscan feature was designed for diagnostic purposes. The intended method of scanning is with HP software and the software build into the OS.
    For Mac users this includes Apple Preview, Image Capture, or scanning from the Print and Fax Window.
    For Windows users, non HP software includes, Windows Live Photo GAllery, Paint, and Windows Fax and Scan.
    Webscan is a great alternative, but it is very basic. Your best option it to install the HP software and us the HP Scan program.
    If there is a particular reason you are using Webscan and prefer to scan this way, the only thing I can really suggest is to try a different browser.
    Please let me know the outcome of a different Browser, what Browser you are currently using, and what happens when you scan with HP software. If you require further assistance, please also include your operating system. What operating system, and version do you have? Mac or Windows?
    I hope this helps.
