Loss of sound on entire computer by iTunes

Hi, occasionally when clicking on a song within iTunes to play it my entire system volume goes down to barely audible. I've checked ALL volume settings, etc and they're all fine. It plays fine for days then this will happen and I need to reboot to get system sound back. No application will play normally when this happens; _everything is at a whisper_. I've killed several entries in Task Manager to no avail. I've also checked sound settings to make sure there were no errors. I will update iTunes as a last resort.

• Sound On Entire Computer Gets "Warbled"/Distorted Whenever I Open Audition

Hello. I apologize in advance if I'm posting a topic that's been posted before. I'm new to the forums, and couldn't find a similar topic via the search tool.
Anyway, whenever I open Adobe Audition, the sound on my entire laptop becomes "warbled" or distorted. The sound goes in and out, imagine your headphone jack or an audio cord not being plugged in all the way. But this ONLY happens with Audition. Other audio editing programs work just fine and don't affect the sound. But once I open Audition, the sound gets all wobbly and goes in and out.
I'm running the Audio Hardware as the following:
Device Class: MME
Default Input: Internal Microphone (Conexant SmartAudio HD)
Default Output: Speakers (Conexant SmartAudio HD)
The other preferences that come after don't change anything.
Also: Whenever I switch the Device Class to ASIO, my sound is perfect on my laptop, but then I get no audio from Adobe Audition. That puzzles me as well...
MME was working perfectly for me, however, until a few days ago. I updated my computer's soundcard due to some other sound issues I was having. I think this could possibly be what is messing with Audition....but I needed to update the soundcard.
So those are my issues. Any help or suggestions?

PC, Dell Inspiron is my operating system.
Using Adobe Audition CS5.5
And in the original post, I said than when I select ASIO, no sound comes from Adobe Audition, even though the rest of the sound is perfect. So I used MME which was initially working for me until these sound issues arose.

• Ipod freezes computer and itunes and has corrupt songs

Hi,
a while back I was having problems with my 160gb IPod classic. Every time I plugged it in the entire computer, and iTunes would freeze.
This ended with a trip to the Apple store and after a lengthy session, the iPod was restored to factory settings. (The guys had a lot of trouble doing this, didn't seem an easy process)
Recently I plugged the iPod in (Windows 8) and added a few more albums.
Later on when playing the iPod on my dock, I noticed a lot of the CDs were missing, completely erased. I had heard of a bug on iTunes which removes CDs that haven't been bought via iTunes, but seems strange as NONE of my albums were bought from iTunes.
I've also noticed that songs appear to be corrupted on some albums. They begin to play, stop, then skip to the next playable song, skipping over the ones that won't play.
Problem is that when I plug it into my HP laptop, it freezes until it is unplugged again. Same with iTunes, it wont respond while the iPod is plugged in.
The computer registers it as a removable drive but says it is full. Device manager recognises it and says it is working ok and has the latest driver etc.
What I want to do it restore it to factory settings but I just can't do it via iTunes and the computer doesn't give me the option as it's not recognisable in 'My Computer' as an iPod.
Can't take it into the store again as the warranty has expired.
There must be a way to return it to factory settings, if not manually without a computer, than maybe via device manager?
I'm not too up on the technical side of things so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Peter.

Eventually managed to restore to factory settings.
Anyone heard about that ITunes 'bug/virus' or is it just scaremongering?

• ITunes is causing entire computer to freeze.....

iTunes is causing my entire computer to freeze since my last upgrade. If I'm using the application or its up and I'm not using it, after a while, it will cause the entire computer to freeze and I have to do an emergency shutdown because my mouse won't even move. Everything is locked up @ this point. Having the iPod plug in without the application up doesn't really seem to bother from what I've seen it but there were occasions when the iPod was plugged in and the application was in use that the computer made this skitzing sound and then completely locked up. I got the blue screen on approx. 2 occasions. And when I plug my iPod up to some speakers in the same manner you plug up headphones (Sony brand), I got that same skitzing sound while listening to one of the songs, but it didn't stop playing.
It has froze/shutdown while using the application alone while I'm browsing the store for different items. This is the majority of the times it has happen.
It has froze/shutdown while the iPod was plugged in.
It has froze/shutdown while the application has been open on the computer but not in use. And this is the only common factor going on in relation to the shutdowns.
I use the same thing basically everytime I come on this computer. Always FireFox, MSN, Gmail Talk, & Yahoo Messenger running in the background. <--- This hasn't caused a problem before. And that's about it. I've had the computer to slow down due to low memory but not the skitzing sounds and frequency of shutdowns its experiencing now.
Can anybody relate to this and if so, then what should I do? Is there a problem with the last release? And at this point, what should I do about this?

i had a similar problem recently. what happened to me was that itunes was doing some kinda "reeding" of music files of some sort [i honestly dont remember the exact name of the action], but whenever it got to a certain song, it would do the same thing you are describing which is crash the computer or freeze it up. i decided to actually FIND the file that was causing the problem and when i got rig of the file and started itunes [this after having to turn itunes on and watch my computer freeze up again to acquire the song name] it worked perfectly.
it seems to me that [since the file itself was a rip of a rip] it might have been corrupted some how and so itunes didnt know what to do with it. i looked at the file and an mp3 file that should be in the range of 2-5mb was actually in the range of 1-200kb which leads me to believe that the file was corrupted.
i dont know if that will help, but i hope you get your problem resolved...

• I have authorized a new computer, and itunes is not registering recent purchases. How do I get my entire library back on this new computer without having to re-buy them all?

I have just gotten a new computer which runs windows.
I have authorized this computer with itunes...
But the library and playlists I had on the first computer are not showing up on this one, and when I log into the itunes store, it is not showing any of my recent purchases (like one I bought as soon as last night.)
How do I get these songs/playlists back, or do I have to actually re-buy all these songs?

From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

• I have m4v files that have subtitles and sound options they play fine on my computer in itunes and but when i watch them on my apple tv there is video but no sound ... why ?

I have m4v files that have subtitles and sound options they play fine on my computer in itunes and but when i watch them on my apple tv there is video but no sound ... why ? all my other videos are fine and they in mp4 format.

Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

• Updated to iTunes 11.0.3, now no sound on my computer, all apps

Hi--
I updated to iTunes 11.0.3, and now there is no sound on my computer. I unplugged the external speakers--no sound from the iMac built-in speakers. No sound for iTunes, GarageBand, QuickTime, or Firefox.
Is anyone else having this problem? And is there an easy way to restore the previous version from Time Machine? When I tried, I got an error message saying iTunes was needed by Mac OS X.
iMac running 10.7.5.

Oh, fer crying out loud... I got sound back when I restarted the computer--rookie mistake. But why should I have to restart to get sound? I'm going back to my usual practice of waiting a month or two to install updates to iTunes.

• I downloaded the latest itunes update and it will not play my music and the sound on my computer has been disabled.

I downloaded the latest itunes update on my HP desktop with Windows Vista and it will not play my music and has disabled the sound on my computer?

Good Morning jsacc38,
The resource below will help you with the issues you are having with the iTunes for Windows update on your PC:
If you can't install or update iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201668
Learn what to do if you can’t install or update iTunes on your Windows PC.
If you can’t install iTunes on your Windows PC, or if you see “error 7” or “error 2” after you install the software, follow the steps below in order.
If you see a different error when trying to launch iTunes, follow the steps in iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
Make sure that you're logged in to your computer as an administrator.
If you're not sure if you have an administrator account, read Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator? You can also refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Install the latest Microsoft Windows updates.
To download the latest updates, visit the Microsoft Windows Update website. iTunes for Windows requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, with the latest Service Pack installed. If you can’t install the updates, refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Visit the iTunes download page. Click Download Now to download the iTunes installer. When prompted, click Save (instead of Run).
Right click on iTunesSetup or iTunes64Setup (the installer you downloaded in step 3).
If you have Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: Choose "Run as administrator."
If you have Windows XP: Choose Open.
If you've previously installed iTunes, the installer will prompt you to repair the software.
After the repair is complete, restart your computer and try launching iTunes.
If iTunes fails to install or repair, it might be necessary to remove components left from a previous installation of iTunes and then reinstall.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and other software components for Windows XP.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.
Songs you bought from the iTunes Store or imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. Deleting iTunes won’t delete your music.
Disable conflicting software.
Some background processes can cause issues that prevent applications like iTunes from installing.
If you installed security software and are having issues installing iTunes for Windows, you might need to disable or uninstall security software to resolve the issues.
Restart your computer.
After the restart, and adjusting the software running on your PC, install iTunes again.

• My iTunes store freezes my entire computer when I try to use it. How can I sort this out?

When opening my itunes store, my entire computer freezes. In general my itunes works, allowing me to listen to my music still, but as soon as I enter the store my entire laptop freezes and I have to turn my laptop off manually. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, but this hasn't remedied the problem. Is there anything that can be done in order for me to use my itunes store again?

• Accessing itunes store freezes entire computer

After installing 7.0.1 whenever I try to open itunes it attempts to go directly to the itunes store and immediately freezes my entire computer. Sometimes I can force quit out of itunes, but most of the time I have to shut down the whole system.
Strangly, the itunes store works fine when I open it in my administrative account. I had a number of problems pertaining to the gapless playback in version 7.0.0, so going back to that is not an option.
I have tried reinstalling a number of times, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

PowerBook G4 1 GHz 15-inch Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm trying to access the iTunes store through a restricted network at uni, thus I'am unable to launch many applications which require network connectivity, would the iTunes store come under this and if so is that the reason it freezes my computer? As I thought that perhaps iTunes is unable to connect fully due to the network restrictions (partial display) therefore gets stuck in a loop without any exit strategy (reason for no error message) and thus crashes.

• ITunes keeps freezing entire computer

Ok, I have an early 2008 macbook and have the most recent iTunes installed. I believe its 11.02 or something. I wish I could give more information but it keeps freezing up my entire computer when it opens. I have to restart my computer to get it working again and don't dare open iTunes. I've done everything. I have deleted it and and reinstalled it and deleted and tried downgrading to 10.7. Everytime I open it, it tells me I have to upgrade and I have tried opening it with pacifist as well and the same thing. I have tried upgrading for the 10.7 on the prompt and still just freezes up everything. I can't do anything with it!! Please help. I would like to put some music on my iPod and use it for its intended purpose.
Is this just Apple's way into forcing me to get a new macbook? lol
This is the discussion I followed for deleting and downgrading.

I have also tried using other music players such as clementine and songbird and they also freeze my entire mac upon opening.

• Gmail in mac book pro frozen on podcast rss download, Gmail in mac book pro frozen on podcast rss download affecting entire computer

Okay, so I am NOT the most tech-savvy girl so please excuse me if I'm sounding really stupid... I have a mac book pro (2 years old). I like to download podcasts on my iphone and I guess they then sync via iTunes cos they appear on my mac book pro as well. BUT recently one pattern making podcast (I'm a student fashion designer), has shown up in my gmail menu under RSS feeds, I'm not sure how long it's been there but I clicked on it a few days ago and since then my gmail is totally stuffed! When I say stuffed I mean: the whole of my gmail on MBP is frozen with the spinning beach ball of death on the open patternmaking podcast/RSS feed window I tried to open- although there is no images or anything it's just frozen before it downloaded anything. I can force quit and then use the rest of my MBP fairly ok, although it does seem slower- and I didn't have time to deal with it as I've had to write a 5000 word essay to be handed in tomorrow so I just completed that & now I can deal with it since that's all done. But if I open mail back up its still frozen on that RSS podcast thing I opened and while it's opened my ENTIRE computer is affected- it just lags (HUGELY) as in safari won't load properly, when I try to open file/edit/tools or anything on the top bar menu it takes like 10 minutes to pop down n then 5 minutes to acknowledge my command. I've just turned my MBP off right now to write this on my iphone I turned it off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
I desperately need this mac for uni as I study online and the $11000 programs I bought only work on mac.(as in the software that enables you to do the course is sent to you based on your type of computer) I'm terrified. Can someone please help me? In laymans terms lol I don't care if I lose ALL my emails as I have them on my iPad & iPhones so no biggy ill do whatever I have to just to fix this issue.
Thank you so much in advance;)
Olivia Preston :)

Hi Olivia,
Go to Safari menu > Preferences > RSS and uncheck all the boxes, Check for updates: Never, Mark articles as read: After clicking them, Remove articles: after one day, and Remove now. See if that does the trick.
