    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.

  • I lost all of my tunes somewhere between updates...

    !#%!^^!!($@*! Crap! This bites...
    Here's the scenario:
    - I have a G5 and a Shuffle (single user on 10.4.2, nothing funky at all - very vanilla setup and well maintained).
    - Updated to iTunes 5.01 earlier this week didn't fire up iTunes until tonight
    - Prior to opening the new and improved iTunes 5.01 tonight I did the Shuffle update posted today
    - Shuffle update went fine, software updated indicated it completed without fault
    - Opened iTunes, accepted new license agreement and entered the normal library interface
    - Reconnected the Shuffle (took it off the USB cable during reboot from Security Update applied) to receive an error msg. about being unable to locate files... Huh?
    - Sure enough, my budding library of ~200 songs was pruned to about 10 or so working songs. No difference if paid for on iTunes, ripped from my CDs, or acquired - the tunes are GONE
    - I see the folders for the artist and tracks but no actual file
Contacted Apple support and with a bit of creative guidance from somebody in a land far away realized how quickly everything became my fault...
Mmmkay. So deleting the playlist from the Shuffle last week not only deleted the thirty songs on the Shuffle but also mangled the rest of my library? I think that's a stretch especially noting the Shuffle and the songs contained in the playlist worked fine prior to tonight.
So, now that I've vented briefly over the loss of my music and the frustration of less than stellar support I have to ask if anybody else encountered similar voodoo?
I'd hate to think I run the risk of losing my songs everytime Apple publishes updates for iTunes or iPods.
Sure I can back up right now when my library is small, but how do folks manage this with gigs of tunes? I could hook up my DAT drive but finding an affordable SCSI card for the G5 is proving difficult and I'm not crazy about keeping a stack of DVDs laying around.
    Gah! Frustrating.
Any input appreciated. For now I must locate my old SATA drive just pulled from the G5 and see if my iTunes folder backup is on that drive....

Something is definitely amiss here folks. I just plugged in my 120G SATA drive removed from my G5 roughly one month ago. And I encountered the same voodoo.
After extracting the new 250G and inserting the old 120G drive I unfortunately had no success. Lo and behold the same symptom for iTunes, all of the artist and album folders are in there but no actual MP3/AAC files.
I know the 120G drive was intact prior to removal (the 120G files were the copied to my 160G boot drive and then into the new 250G drive running as the iTunes repository) and the files from the 120G and the 160G were playable when the drive was removed (I could browse at will and open the files on the 120G or the 160G).
This reminds me of the days when I was an Apple Certified Tech and System 7 came out. That OS had the voodoo where files would "disappear". Of course as we later learned that was not the case, and the cure was relatively easy. That behavior is akin to what I'm seeing here.
I wonder if I can "revert" to iTunes 4.9 just to see if anything changes (or maybe the OS prior to the last security update if that had any file system revisions in it - need to check that).
For what it's worth I did search the drive(s) to see if the files were simply mis-placed somehow and as anticipated, nothing revealed from the search.
Can I conact the iTunes Store/Support to re-download any of the purchased music I had?
This is not a real confidence builder for getting into the world of iTunes. But, I should of course heed my own words of wisdom - back up early, back up often....

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from the ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Computer crashed. Lost all my i-tunes.  HELP

I had transferred some 1,300 songs from my CDs to iTunes and then loaded them onto my iPod. THEN, my computer crashed and the person who got it running again had totally wiped everything including my entire iTunes library. How can I put the songs on my iPod back into the iTunes library. I don't even dare connect my iPod to the computer for fear of it wiping everything off. I am NOT real savvy on this. I run Windows XP and have the Classic iPod. Thank you to ANYONE who can lead me through this.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • HT1535 My PC crashed and lost all my I TUnes library. All that remains is loaded on my I pod classic 80 gb. Is there a way to restore my I Tunes from the I Pod back to the library on my pc?

Owner of I Pod Classic 80 GB with large content preserved on I Pod. Is there is a way to restore I Tunes on PC, i.e. synch my I Pod's content back into I Tunes on PC ( HP Pavilion Windows XP). I have some content preserved by Apple in the "cloud" but majority of music loaded was from my non I Tunes store music, private CD/vinyl library.

You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the songs files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to the current iTunes library and then sync your iPod to that library.

  • HT201269 My hard drive crashed and is unrecoverable.  I lost all of the tunes that I had downloaded from my music CD's.  Is there a way to use my I Pod Classic to transfer all of the music into the latest version of I Tunes on my PC and then be in sync ag

  • I lost all my ratings... please help...

    Hi, who can save me...?
Because my C hard disk was almost full I moved all my music to my D disk. By doing so I obviously lost all my I tunes music. I re-imported all my music files into i-tunes but lost all my ratings, styles description and playlists in the meanwhile... I still have all of those on my I-pod but that I of course don't dare to plug onto my computer because I m afraid that it will also delete all my ratings and playlists... Yes, I do feel really stupid... Thanks to who ever can save me...

Did you move the entire 'iTunes' folder or only the 'iTunes Music' folder.
If you moved the 'iTunes Music' folder, your playlists would have shown up, but the songs would have exclamation marks in front of the name.
When your library was empty after moving, I suspect you moved the entire iTunes folder.
If so, put it back at it's original location.
Run iTunes and you could have all your playlists and ratings again.
Then move your music using the instructions in this article:
iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder
Additional info about the important library files can be found here:
What are the iTunes library files?
    Hope this helps.

  • I lost all my data after installing ApplCare Protection Plan

I just recently adopted my first IMac. Everything was going along fine until I installed the AppleCare Protection Plan and I lost all my emails, addresses, pictures. I tried uninstalling but nothing. Is there a way to retrieve my lost data? Thanks.

An Apple Care protection plan is purchasing an extended warranty that extends the Mac's 1 year warranty to 3 years. There is nothing to install. It involves registering your Mac's serial number on line with Apple along with the Apple Care registration code. However, Tech Tool Deluxe is a 3rd party app that comes free with Apple Care. Could that be what you tried to install, Tech Tool Deluxe?
Explain how you went about installing it please?

Yes, I got that. My question was "are you using the same iTunes account to access music purchased from the Store?" I think your answer is "yes".
    matthewfrommerseyside wrote:
But they are all on my ipod - can i not sync back to itunes?
iTunes is not designed to do that. However, this user tip from tt2 may help you recover your music from your iPod, although it's not a simple process: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Ignore any references in the tip to iOS devices, the Classic does not use iOS. The tip has a list of software, including the TouchCopy referred to by tbirdvet that may assist you in recovering your music.

  • Ipod Nano lost all tunes

My ipod nano lost all stored tunes whilst on the road and I have no idea why. Had to reload everything. What could I have done wrong? Or is there a glitch?

    1. susan your question does not pertain to this topic (1 album vs. all music)
    2. if you have a question post your own topic
    3. copy the album on again or look harder.

  • My computer crashed and I lost all my tunes. I have them on my ipod but need to know how to get them back onto itunes

my computer crashed and I lost all but 2 albums in itunes. Is there a way to get into my old libruary? I have my tunes on my ipod.

Any music purchased through the iTunes store can be downloaded again for free as long as you are signed in with the Apple ID you used for the original purchase.  Any other music you had in iTunes should be easily accessible in your system back up or from the CDs you ripped from originally.

  • Lost all my google desktop page and email access...again after using Trend Micro System Tuner

I ran Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2013 System Tuner and lost all the info, gadgets, etc. and even my email (Gmail) access. I was left with a black, blank page. I opened up Google Chrome and everything is still in place. This happened 3 days ago. So, yesterday I ran the system tuner again again as per my own comments from last year....had sorted it out by doing it. Still nothing. This morning.....I opened Firefox (21) and surprisingly had my main desktop page but still without my email. When I tried to open the email on it's own I still got nothing....the computer seemed to try to open it, but got "stuck" and the "loading" bar that goes from left to right never appeared. I could switch to the "slower" HTML version and the mail came up but prefer standard version. Checking on Google Chrome, everything is working just fine. I believe the Firefox Version 21 had only just been updated? Perhaps that is at the core. I really prefer Firefox but will have to continue with Google Chrome until this problem perhaps sorts itself out. Since it is loading properly on Google Chrome I don't want to set everything up again. Any suggestions?
