Lost control file, how to recover them

Hi All,
I have Oracle 11G running on RHEL 5.2 server and unexpectedly I can't start database after a server reboot. I have executed the following commands,

LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs/inittestdb.ora'
SQL>
and then
SQL> startup pfile='/u01/app/oracle/admin/testdb/pfile/init.ora.1024201018143'
ORACLE instance started.

There are are no control files in the directory and I couldn't find them on the disk. Unfortunately, I do not have backups for dbs (this is a staging server). Is there any way we can recover those files or fix the problem ?
Could someone please help us on this?
Thanks

He is not having any files in that location... not only control files, but the datafiles too.. in that case how is it possible ??? thats why I mentioned like that...
And yes, if the datafiles and redos are located in another location then we can recreate the controlfile.
But since it is a test system, I dont think there will be files in another location...
Please take it that I am not arguing with the GURUS and EXPERTS here..Well thought-out arguments are appreciated!
Perhaps the answer is to ls -l /u01/app/oracle/oradata
Maybe it's TESTDB or some for some other reason testdb really isn't the sid.
If it's a staging environment, where do things come from? If the data files are found on the staging server, but no controlfiles, perhaps alter database backup controlfile to trace on the source server might give something to work with.

  • I lost my files - How to get them back?

    HI GUYS,
Recently I realized that some videos and picture's files simply disappear from my HD.
I need a Disaster Recovery Software, Quick file recovery
I think it was an accident file deletion or a hardware failure, but not a virus attack!
What should I do or try?
I found some links that says that could help with some softwares:
    http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm
    http://www.easeus-deletedrecovery.com/
Is it the only way to recover my files?
I am a beginner and I have no money and time to pay toshiba to recover my HD. Actualy, it is 4 files, but it is very important for me.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Don't worry. I have a solution for you. Even I faced the same problem few months back but I successfully recovered all my deleted and lost files using Remo Recovery software.
This software works on a complex algorithm, scans your entire drive/partition and list outs all the files/folders or images or audio/video files either in data view or file type view. You can also recover files from FAT or NTFS file system.
Free demo version is available in company site, where you can get complete information about product and the free version.
Give it a try.. All the Best.

  • PDF files corrupted, how to recover them?

I am using ubuntu 11.04. Few days ago, I installed wine to run .exe programs on the system. Somehow .exe virus flooded into the system & the entire system has got corrupted. Now I am unable to view pdf files as all of them are corrupted. How can recover them now?

Some viruses destroy all PDF (and other types of file) on the system. If this is the case, they are gone, and you need to restore from backup.

Well, iCloud has nothing to do with this.

  • Lost all Control files (Want to Recover)

    Hi
I have a database in archive log mode and we take a rman hot backup everyday. We are not using the recovery catalog. I lost all the control files
few days ago. I have a control file to trace and that was generated 20 days ago. This is our test database. I want to recover it. I don't know if we have
done any physical changes or not after the creation of this text file to create a control file. Database is still up and running.
    Any help will be appreciated?
    Thanks in Advance

If the control is restored from the rman backup lets say it is 3 days old, then how to update the same control file with the current database statistics.

  • My Garageband project crashed, the file lost/damaged! How to recover it?

    Guys,
I've been working my garageband project when suddenly the window was closed and the notification asked me to reopen, report or ignore it.
This is my second time my project crashed. The first time, I chose 'reopen', and my file reopen. All the midi datas still there, but the sample sounds were empty. So I had to put it one by one. What a job because I had more than 15 instruments there.
But those jobs was better then what I experienced today. After my project crashed, I chose 'ignore' with assumption I would open the last saved file. But it didn't. I really lost my file. The size for one GarageBand projects is about more than 1 MB. But my file after crashed is about 56 KB! So some solutions like 'right click' and 'show package content' didn't work at all because I worked with midi data, not live recording. I tried to find the script file at projectdata and compared it with my other projects, they have more bytes than my lost project file.
So, if you have a same problem like me, just choose 'reopen'. I hope it will save your midi data so you don't have to work it out from beginning (just like I have to do after write this post ... x) )
So guys, is there any idea how to recover my crashed file? I've sent a report to Apple and still waiting their answer.
    Thanks a lot
    Andito

Reinstalling iTunes won't ever repair damaged libraries or find lost files.
Unlike nearly all Windows software double-clicking an iTunes Library file does not necessarily open the selected database. Rather, iTunes opens the last database it successfully opened, or if that was in the "normal" <User's Music>\iTunes location, but is missing, it will create a new empty library.
You can open an alternate library file, or create a new one, by holding down shift as you start iTunes. Although you can open the library files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder this way, your library will perform better if you restore the archived library database to the main iTunes folder in the way that I have described.
Your most recent library may be present in the main iTunes folder as a .tmp file, or recoverable via a file undelete tool, however either of these files, if found, may be partially corrupt getting you no further forward.
The two most recent releases of iTunes were June 11th and March 28th 2012..
Yes I read your post, but I don't know if you know all of the above. If you had a full backup of your library you could just restore that. It is possible that what you've tried so far hasn't yet brought back the most complete version of your library that is available to you. As a last resort you will have to work with what you have and add in whatever media is not in that version of your library, accepting the loss of recently added ratings, playlists & play counts.
You can simply add the entire iTunes Media folder using File > Add Folder to Library folder which should ignore everything already in the library and only add new (to that database) stuff. If there is any chance that your iTunes media folder contains .m3u playlist files the import process will also import all of those, which may not be what you want. iTunes Folder Watch would then present a better approach.

  • Queries on DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS and lost Control Files

Hi I have some queries on RESETLOGS I would be keen to hear some answers on
Q1. If I am doing a PITR and I end in ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS, what happens about any Archived Redo Log files ( still in situ ) that were from the original source database but were at a future point in time ? Are they just ignored by any future restore ( since their log sequence number will be different ? ) and eventually over written or purged out ?
Q2. When you create a new incarnation using RESETLOGS can you Flashback Database to before this ?
Q3. If I have lost all my Control Files and have not created a backup control file or done a backup to trace of the control file, can I simply restore one of the actual control files from my last backup and use RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE AUTO; or will this only work with a bonafide backup control file ( i.e. one created via ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO ‘<file spec>’; )
    Q4. When I issue RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE AUTO;
Do I have to ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS at the end of the recovery ? I have seen this documented but I am not sure why I would need to reset the redo logs and instead simply open the database ?
    Q5. If I am running the CREATE CONTROL FILE command from an ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;
Do I need to use the NORESETLOGS or RESETLOGS ? How do I know which to use ?
    thanks,
    Jim

  • Case of lost control files

Suppose I restored a database and am about to recover it. I realize all control files are lost on disk as well as on tape. Prior to the database crash that needed the recovery, I have no text based control files created(as a backup using ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE). I have no copies of the binary and text based control files at all... . There are a bunch of datafiles on several disks that look like they are part of the database, but some may actually not be.
But all my datafiles that were part of the database are good copies and that's what I need to recover and do have it. How do I go about the restore ?
    Thanks

  • Lost movies and want to recover them.

Several months ago my laptop completely crashed. Hard drive had to be completely replaced. Now that I have it back I reinstalled iTunes on it and recovered my music, TV shows, and apps for my iPod Touch 4th generation. But the spot that is annoying me is that I lost all the movies that I did not have on my iPod before the computer crashed. So far as I've found I can not recover them but I was hoping someone might have a suggestion. I've tried the purchased area in the iTunes Store but it doesn't offer the movie section. Please if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful to hear them. Also for some reason my laptop will not download the latest update for my iPod Touch.

If your external hard drive is formatted NTFS, it is read-only as far as the Mac OS is concerned — you can't write anything to it unless you install a third-party NTFS driver such as NTFS-3G, Tuxera NTFS, or Paragon NTFS, or you reformat the drive in FAT32, ExFAT, or Mac OS Extended format. FAT32 format has a 4GB file size limit, so if any of the files you want to save on the external drive is larger than 4GB, don't use that format. ExFAT doesn't have that limitation and is cross-platform readable (Mac and Windows). Mac OS Extended is the native format for Macs, but Windows can't read it without a special driver, MacDrive. So which format to use will depend on what computers you want to use the external drive with.

  • HT5043 My daughter was taking pictures in photo booth and now all of our photos from the iphoto library appear to be missing.  Any ideas how to recover them?

Does anyone know how to recover or view pictures after importing photos from photo booth?  My daughter said that she was asked if she wanted to start a "new card".  Is this term familiar to anyone.  So sad to lose all our photos....

Sorry - what exactly was done? iPhoto and PhotoBooth have no relation to each other -
If she deleted the iPhoto libreary in error then take it out of the trash and put it back in the pictures folder - if the trash has been emptied then restore your backup of the iPhoto lbiarary - that is what backups are for - to protect against mistakes and failures
