Lost everything on my 3G, after I tried to sync from a new computer

A while back my laptop crashed, so I am now using my dads laptop.
I downloaded iTunes 10, then plugged in my phone. It started a backup but froze. I updaated the software on the iPhone to iPhone1,24.1_8B117Restore
I started to sync some new podcast and apps that I found, and releazed that all my data on the iphone was gone, even before I started the sync.
I tried to restore with a backup, but it does not work.
I tried to restore with "RESTORE" because my iPhone no longer appears in iTunes, but it did not work either.
I also uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled, I shut down the iPhone and started it again, I shut down the computer, and nothing, is my data somewhere in my dads computer? Can I restore any info? I tried to restore the contacts, but it is not working either. And now I can no longer access my iPhone in iTunes, my computer only recognizes it as a camera.
Here is a list of the actions I took:

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to  deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel
i want to update to iOS 5 and still have itunes be able to copy my playlists from my iphone. for free. why does apple provide a recovery from iphone option?

If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer.  This restores the library and device association files.  If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

  • I previously synced my iPhone 5 to my home computer, but my computer crapped out, so I am trying to sync to my new computer, but it is keeping all of my old songs as well, so I have duplicates.  Is there a way to erase my old playlist?

The title describes my problem.  I stopped using my old computer, and when I went to sync to my new computer, a playlist I had is still on my iPhone 5.  These are not songs purchased on iTunes.  I tried to swipe erase them, but that caused the phone to lock up.  I've tried removing all songs from my phone, but they still show up.
    Thanks!

    Hi Huberticus,
If you currently have all of your content on your new computer (songs, contacts, data, etc), you may want to try using iTunes to restore your iPhone to factory settings, then bring the data back over from iTunes. You may find the following article helpful:
(Note: Restoring will remove all data from your phone, so double check that everything is currently backed up or available elsewhere)

  • When trying to sync ipod to new computer

Hello I have been trying to sync my ipod to a new computer, I found this disk method very useful
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
Now the music from my ipod is transferred to my itunes, under my music, which I m really happy about, but it is faded out, and when I try and sync, it still gives me the message "the itunes libary is synced with another itunes library.Do I want to erase and and replace with existing playlists"
Any ideas ? As I dont want to loose all of my music !!!
    Thanks

  • Trying to sync ipod with new computer and add music frrom my ipod to

    my new desktop.
I apologize in advance if this question gets asked all the time. I am trying to move all the music on my ipod to my new desktop. I am currently using my ipod as a HD on my new computer. I would like to be able to add the new songs i've downloaded on my new computer to my ipod, but i'm not sure if i can do that without losing all of my old songs.
    Can someone help me out?
Again, my apologies. I'm sure this gets asked all the time.

"I would like to be able to add the new songs i've downloaded on my new computer to my ipod, but i'm not sure if i can do that without losing all of my old songs"
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and a different iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • My Computer hard drive crashed lost everything, how do I transfer my music on ipod back to new computer?

Hard drive data is unrecoverable as drive no longer spins.  All of my music is on my iPod and don't want to loose it.  How can I get my music back onto the new Windows 7 laptop without loosing during a sync?
    Thank you

You don't specify iPod classic or iPod touch...
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation (iOS devices only)
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup (iOS devices only)
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps. (iOS devices only)
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • HT1212 Restoring on a new computer that the ipod has never been synced to is not working.  Old computer is broke and trying to sync to the new one is not working.  Help!

Passcode has been disabled and the computer it was synced to is no longer working.  We have tried to sync to the new computer and it is not possible.  Exactly what are the steps to do this.  All our apple products are on our account, therefore, apple support should be able to see that there is nothing "suspect" going on.  It is driving me insane not being able to reset/resync, whatever it's called when your locked out.

Place the iPod in Recovery mode and connect to the computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

You can use any computer but your data will be lost if you have no backup.

I'm trying to sync and update with my new laptop but I am getting an error meassage that if I continue all purchases, apps etc will be deleted..... How to I do this without losing all my stuff??? Help I have no clue about technology!!!!!

The official way to do it is to restore the iTunes library that was on your old computer to your new computer using the backup of your whole system you regularly update.  Then you are syncing the phone with the same old library.
Some of the information below is summarized by turingtest2 in the post at https://discussions.apple.com/message/18842615
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141 - dates from 2008 and some outdated information now.
Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/ - Information about use in disk mode pertains only to older model iPods.
Get Your Music Off of Your iPod - http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Get_Your_Music_Off_of_Your_iPod - I am not sure but this may only work with some models and not newer Touch, iPhone, or iPad.

  • When I upload an app, it asks for my password, then says it's incorrect.  When I reset it (after 3 tries) and put in the new one, it still says it is incorrect.

When I upload an app, it asks for my password, then says it's incorrect.  When I reset it (after 3 tries) and put in the new one, it still says it is incorrect.  What am I doing wrong?

I assume that you meant that you reset the password three times. Did you receive any verification that the new password was accepted?
Sign out of you account, restart the iPad and sign in again. Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap the ID and sign out.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in again.
