Lost internet connection with WRT54G

Have had WRT54G router for a few years now and worked perfectly with a cable modem. Went on holiday for 2 weeks and switched the router and cable modem off. When I came back this week and turned them back on I can no longer connect to the internet from either of my laptops via wireless router. Can get local access from laptop to router but not to internet. Can connect OK from laptop to internet via cable modem direct. Have tried lots of things, including upgrading firmware, resetting automatic setup etc, but can't work out why it suddenly stopped working.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Do not use easy setup.  You need a wired connection between your router and computer.  Log on to router using 192.168.1.1 in Internet Explorer.  Leave username blank and use admin for password.  You may have to clone your mac address.
Setup your wireless connection.  Change the network name from Linksys to something else.  Go to wireless security and setup wpa encryption. Write down the settings.  You will have to input these settings into your wireless connection.

  • Sharing DSL internet connection with WRT54G

I've recently changed from a cable to a DSL internet connection.
On cable I used a WRT54G router to share the connection to a laptop (via Wireless) and a desktop (via ethernet cable).
After instaling the DSL (modem and software) on the laptop, the conection doesn't work.
The set up for the linksys router was updated (changed to PPPoE, and informing the user id and password the provider gave me), via browser, and it is correct.
Now, I can only access the internet when the ethernet cable is connected straight from the DSL modem to the laptop.
If change the cable from the laptop to the linksys router and try accessing the router, it doesn't work, although the connection is indicated as active, and the laptop gets the ip I defined in the DHCP linksys router (192.168.1.100).
Under this scheme, it seems the laptop can't find, neither the linksys router, nor the DSL modem (modem model is Thomson Speed Touch 510 v6), and hence, the internet.
Due to that when I try accessing the Linksys configuration page (192.168.1.1) I receive a message that this page cannot be accessed offline and it's necessary to connect. I can't connect, cause the modem is not found in the net.
That should not happen, the page should be available offline, cause it's a connection that does not rely on an internet connection (the router is close to the laptop).
The same problem occurs with any web page I try to open/load: a message stated it can be accessed offline, and it's necessary to connect, but, again, I can't connect.
I tried using a cable between the laptop and the linksys router, but did not go any better.
    Thx everyone

It is my understanding that the Thompson Speed Touch 510 V6 is an ADSL Gateway modem router.   As such, at a minumum, it is probably doing your PPPoE login for you.  If this is correct, then your Linksys should not be set to do a PPPoE login.  When you used software to install your modem, didn't you have to enter your user id and password and have it loaded into the Thompson?  If the Thompson has this info, the Linksys pobably does not need it.
You really need to talk to your DSL provider, or check their web site, to see what they suggest about setting up your system.  At a minumum, you will need to know exactly what the Thompson is doing:
Is it doing your PPPoE login?
Is is acting as a DHCP server?
In the mean time, you might just want to try the following:
Try setting the router to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP"
If you are having trouble getting to the router setup page, do the following:
    1)  power down your modem, router, and computers, and unplug them from the wall.
    2)  disconnect all wires from the router.
    3)  connect one computer by wire to port 1 (not the internet port) on the router.
    3)  power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4)  power up the computer
    5)  open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1  This should open the router login window.  Enter your user name (if any) and password.  This should take you to your router's setup page.
If you get this far, set the router to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP", save the setting, then power down the router and your computer.  Then reconnect modem-router-computer and try your setup again.
If any step fails, note the exact error message and the status of the lights on the router.  Report back with your results.  Also, it might help if we knew your DSL service provider.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lost internet connection with Firmware 7.1.1

    Here is my network:
    2 iMacs
    2 Roku media players
2 VOIP phones with a base station (Siemens)
1 Airport Extreme with a LaCie HD connected on the USB port
1 Netgear modem with the WiFi turned off.
The 2 iMacs connect only wirlessly
The Voip phones have a base station which connect with a cable to the modem (so indirectly to the Mac base station)
When I updated to 7.1.1 one of my iMacs continued to connect to internet (the one I'm writing on now), but other one does not. It connect to the LaCie and to this iMac, but it won't connect to internet. The two phones won't connect either.
As I'm writing this, I have a faint suspicion that the problem might be with the modem and not the router, but I'll this anyway, cause maybe I'm wrong.
    Any Ideas
    Mark

In fact it seems the problem was not the Firmware, because everything is now working.
This is what I did change: the iMac that was not connecting to internet also had a problem with the MirrorAgent service left over from a .Mac subscription. After getting rid of Mirror Agent, all of the internet connections (including the VOIP phones and Rokus) started working againg.
Does anyone have any idea if there is a connection?

  • APPLE SAID MY PHONE NEEDED A SETTING UPDATE DID THIS TODAY AND NOW i'VE LOST INTERNET CONNECTION WITH CARIER WHAT DO i DO TO FIX ?

This morning woke up and my ipone 4 said it needed a setting update and to plug the mains cable in as it would use a lot of power to do the update ? anyway it updated and thought nothing of it... came to use safari in afternoon and it come up with "you are not subscirbed to a cellular data service" my phone is on contract my hubbys phone has done the same thing ... we are both on contract but with different suppliers/carriers..  so it has to be a Apple problem ? whats the fix please ??

If you are unable to get 3g/4g service than that is an issue with your phone carrier not apple problem, they don't do those service.  have you contacted your phone carrier?  Have you check in settings to see if your cellular data is turned on?

  • Lost internet connection..."A connection time out occurred"

I've read a number of recent threads blaming Lion for lost wireless internet connections.  I wish my problem was that simple.
I have an AT&T furnished Siemens SpeedStream 4100 modem connected via ethernet cable to a Netgear 3500 router providing a wireless network.  This configuration worked without problem for over six months serving an iBook G4 (OS X 10.4) replaced by an iMac (OS X 10.7) in mid August, Lenovo Thinkpad (Windows 7), iPhone 3GS, and occasionally a MacBook (OS X 10.5) and a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6).  Then last week my iMac lost internet connectivity and displayed a dialog box saying:
"Could not join NETWORK NAME.  A connection timeout occurred."
At the same time, my iPhone lost its WiFi connection to my network, and could not reconnect; and the Thinkpad could no longer find my wireless network.
Thinking the problem was with the Netgear router, I substituted my 6 year old Apple Airport Express in the same configuration, but with a different wireless network name.  (I had used this network setup successfully for over five years before replacing the Airport Express with the Netgear router in February.)  The Airport Express network worked on both computers and my iPhone for a couple of days before I again lost internet connectivity exactly as I had with the Netgear router.
I called AT&T, thinking the Siemens modem must be at fault, since a problem with that one device seemed more likely than successive failures of two different routers within a few days of each other, or a simultaneous problem with a Mac, PC and iPhone.  AT&T said their modem checked out problem free.  I have now connected my iMac directly to the Siemens modem with an ethernet cable and have a problem free wired internet connection.
I need my wireless network.  Any thoughts on what happened to my WiFi?

AppleSince86 ... we have this same problem with a wired version of 802.1x
It appears if a user updates their password  (perhaps their login screen prompts this to do this)... the underlying eapolclient will still use the old outdated password to reauthenticate upon the next x min refresh interval.
This will basically kick the user off line.
Two things could really improve this process:
    1)   When the operating system reauthenticates for network access... use the absolute most current version of a users password
    2)   Timeout handling seems much more wonky in 10.7 / 10.8 ... could probably shorten all of the timeouts up a great deal... no need to wait 30 seconds error out... in reality... if you haven't heard back in 5 seconds, you're not going to.
Unfortunately, I haven't found any configuration files to control this from our end... it appears to be the compiled behavior of the apple code

  • I lost my connection with my AirPort Base Station when I upgraded to the OS Maverick.  How can I get my system to recognize the base station again?

I lost my connection with my AirPort Base Station when I upgraded to the OS Maverick.  I can still see the Internet, but the Time Machine cannot backup now because it cannot locate the AirPort base station.  How can I resolve this issue?
Steps already taken with zero success:
    1. Restarted the AirPort Base Station multiple times.
    2. Restarted the Mac Pro multiple times.
    3. Looked online for AirPort update for 6.3.2 version.
Other Apple products in my house can still see the AirPort Base Station, however my Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro cannot.
    Please advise.

That information helps. If you want to use one of the SmartStor's disks as a repository for sharing your iTunes Library, then do not configure that disk as a RAID. Format it with Disk Utility using the Erase tab. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is the correct choice.
Connect it to your Time Capsule, then use AirPort Utility to configure access requirements for sharing it on your network. It should appear as a shared volume in the Finder, available to all your Macs as you thought it should.
I also thought maybe the extra HD space would be added to the existing Airport Disk.  It isn't.
Correct. There is no way to do that. The only way to increase the capacity of a Time Capsule's hard disk is to replace the Time Capsule (or its disk, if you are amenable to disassembling it) with a larger capacity model.
If you also want to use the SmartStor as a RAID, that is another story, and you should probably attack that problem separately.

  • HT4569 In case of lost internet connection during mountain lion download from app store, do i have to start over?

In case of lost internet connection during mountain lion download from app store, do i have to start over?

How do I speed this up.  I have a fast internet connection but this is obviously not right.
The speed of the downlaod is dependant on the speed of your Internet connection. "I have a fast Internet connection...," doesn't actually mean anything unless you provide some numbers.
I have a cable Internet connection with 32 Mbps download speeds, but if you have DSL, you would probably be limited to 1.5 Mbps. Some would call both of these connections "fast," but obviously one is faster than the other.
What is the speed of your Internet connection?? Don't say, "fast."
    Test it here: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?flash=1

  • Airport Express lost internet connection

Wireless modem reset by internet provider.
Can connect to internet via ethernet connection between computer and modem.
Can set up airport express, all computers see & connect to wireless network and green light on a/e.
Connect airport express directly to moden, green light but no internet connection.
rebooted modem, a/e, computer, reconfigured wireless network, still no internet.
Week ago everything was fine, then amber blinking light on a/e for couple days and then lost connectivity.

Suggest that you temporarily turn off wireless on your laptop and connect it to one of the ethernet ports on the Netgear router to see if you can get an internet connection that way. If you can, check the other ethernet ports on the Netgear to makes sure they are all operating.
However, if you can't get an internet connection with the laptop connected directly to the Netgear, then the probable trouble spot points to the ethernet ports/switch on the Netgear.
If everything checks OK in the first paragraph, then you know that the Netgear is functioning correctly and you can look elsewhere for the issue.
Try a factory default reset on the AirPort Express again as follows:
Power it down for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding the button in as you plug the AirPort Express back in to power
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
After reconfiguration of the AirPort Express, if you continue to receive the "no ethernet" message after a few tries, then it's likely that there has been an internal failure within the AirPort Express. This can sometimes occur on AirPort Express devices that are a couple of years old or older.
If that's the case, I'm afraid the AirPort Express will need to be replaced.

  • Lost internet connection to Airport express

My Netgear DSL modem/wireless router is able to connect to the internet and my Mac book pro airport is able to communicate with it. I have Airport express base unit connected to the router by ethernet cable and I was using faster N wifi to communicate with laptop. I use G wifi to communicate with Iphones. Few days ago I lost ability to connect to the internet with Airport express. Laptop is connected to it showing all bars and during troubleshooting all part of the setup screen show green dots except IPS and further down rest is red. I can connect through Netgear using its G wifi. Troubleshooting so far did not work. I reset pasword, created new network, reset airport extreme to factory setting but I am getting error that there is nothing connected to Ethernet port. I tried 3 diferent cables, each one of 3 netgear ports and there is no change. Is it a defective ethernet port on the airport express? Is there a test I can confirm that? Thanks for your input in advance.

Suggest that you temporarily turn off wireless on your laptop and connect it to one of the ethernet ports on the Netgear router to see if you can get an internet connection that way. If you can, check the other ethernet ports on the Netgear to makes sure they are all operating.

  • Map Loader Bug Re. Lost Internet Connection

Don't really know how to alert the programmers behind the Map Loader software to a fairly major software bug.
If the internet connection is - even very briefly - interrupted for even a second, the Map Loader software gives an error message.
BUT - big problem - the map selection CLEARS so you can't resume from where you left. Nor can you see which maps had successfully downloaded while the connection was active, so you have to download the WHOLE list again.
Please update for the next release.

    D-Park,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
If you were using MAC filtering on your router, you would know how to fix this.    If you do not know what it is, you do have have MAC filtering enabled on the router -- or you are not the router administrator.   So -- don't worry about MAC filtering or go find the router administrator and ask to be let in (you will need the MAC address of the printer -- get a print out of the network page from the printer).

    Loss of network connection
Ordinarily I would suggest you reinstall the Full Feature Software for the printer because the installation can resolve a variety of ills associated with a disconnected wireless printer.
Install Full Feature Software - Printer
You did say the printer lost Internet connection -- this is a bit different from losing connection from your home network.  You seem to be implying that your printer has lost its ePrint connection without actually saying you have lost ePrint.
The following document can help with both a disconnected wireless printer that is not cooperating -- even after you have tried reinstalling the Full Feature Software, for example -- and the document has a link to the ePrint Help and Tips documents that might help you if the issue is just one of ePrint and an Internet connection having to do with the printer and its connection to that service.

Take a look around at the sections -- you might start at the Troubleshooting steps and see what jumps out at you -- you might find your "issue" is right there and you can find the steps to fix it right away.

I've lost internet connection after a power outage; how do I restore?

Check with your internet provider for help.  Your modem or router could have been damaged if they did not come on after the outage.  If your modem and router look OK all you should have to do is restart your iMac.
