Lost iphoto on desktop
When I try to open iphoto the main window does not appear, yet if I take a screen shot it appears in the shot that has been taken of the desktop. I've checked if hiding is on off etc. There is still 40 gbs of stuff in the application window when i click get info but cannot access the iphoto library files.
I'm using iphoto 8.1.2
Any help or suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks
Tom
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
*What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

After upgrading to Yosemite I have lost iPhoto. It has a cross through it in Finder, but I clicked on it and I was directed to download the latest version from the App store, but it is not available in the Australian store. Can anyone please help? I am not an advanced user and I would like my photos back, having had no idea I would lose iPhoto in the upgrade!
Thanks petermac87...but for some reason, the only purchases showing are OS. So assuming iPhoto is in Mountain Lion, I was hoping to look under Hidden Items there as you suggested, but there is no option for that. Only option is to download Mountain Lion again, not iPhoto specifically. Any ideas welcome!

I have lost iPhoto off my iMac OSX 10.7
Hi, I have lost Iphoto off my iMac OSX Lion 10.7.5, I somehow deleted into trash with some other icons from the doc, now I cant get it back and I cant down load it from the Apps page either, can someone advise me how to replace it please?
If you deleted the icon from the dock all you need to do is go to your applications folder and double click in iOhoto to launch it. Then right click on the icon in the Dock and "keep in dock"

Lost iphoto, cant install again
I have lost iphoto, it is no where to be found and some kind soul from here advised me to reinstall. I cant. Help, please
Heres what I tried:
Installation disk 1- it restarts as it should. Then I get a window that says welcome to Mac 0s x. There are a variety of choices including "read before you install and also install mac os x". I click on that one. Then I go around again with the restart and the exact same list of choices.
On disk 2 I select the additional application pkg, get an installation window and select the HD as my destination. Then I get the following msg
A newer version of Additional Applications (version 1.0.0.6.547) already exists on the volume HD
This software does not allow older versions to be installed on top of newer versions
so I Cancel
Since I am wondering where the additional applications are I ask the FIND to locate them for me. Apparently there arent any because FInd cant find them.
I am wondering exactly what my problem is and do I need professional help.
I tried the disk utility program to verify and repair permissions and got 200 pages of information (example :Permissions differ on ./Applications/Internet Explorer.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Help/Images/Icon_folder.gif, should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are -rwxrwxrwx
Owner and group corrected on ./Applications/Internet )
Thanks for any assistance, I like iphoto and want it back
Kathy GueldenzopfThank you silly rabbit but I still have trouble. I did install Pacifist and everything looked fine BUT There is an Iphoto icon in my hd/ applications and it says its an application(as opposed to folder, document). When I click on it it looks like it is open just for a couple of seconds i see the rainbow spinner then switches back to finder or the open application.
I threw it all out (Pacifist) and emptied the trash. I restarted and installed it again. Then I installed IPhoto again. Looks good, its in the applications and clicking on it brings it up to appear to be an open application. I see edit (rotate, arrange photos, set title, etc.)
I connect camera Iphoto opens, looks good
tell it to import photos and it quits there was a msg but I didnt get it
I undid the camera and shut down and restarted.Iphoto flashes in the finder then nothing
iphoto is in application folder--i checked -but when I click on it it just flashes again and goes right back to finder
Now I install Panther (10.3.9) figuring it will install IPhoto since nothing else did. Here"s what happened:
click on iphoto and it asks if I want iphoto to open when I attach the camera YES
attach camera------nothing detach
attach camera iphoto opens
click on import
iphoto unexpectedly quits detach camera
attachc camera iphoto opens
click on import
iphoto unexpectedly quits detach camera
Can someoone give me some idea of what I should do?? -
In upgrading my OS X to 10.6, I lost iPhoto. How do I regain capability?
In upgrading my OS X from 10.4 to 10.6, I lost iPhoto. How can I regain iPhoto capability so I can access to my iPoto Library in the backup disk and downlaod from my camera?
Thank you!
<Edited by Host>To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List. -
Whilst updating Tiger to 10.4.4 I seem to have lost iPhoto. It's not in my applications folder and spotlight can't find it. Why is this and more importantly how do I get it back?
Hi. Apple do have a strange way of "fixing" this problem. There way is to install Panther back again, this will install all your original apps., THEN select "upgrade" in the installation list. See: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 as to why. Everyone else uses "Pacifist's" wonder program which lets you "see" the programs on your original install disk(s). See: http://www.charlessoft.com/ — using this program will let you install only the apps. you require. Don't be concerned about using it - it is very easy! (Even for me)! Hope this helps. Best wishes, Robert.

Transfer photo iPhoto to Desktop
How do I transfer a photo on iPhoto to Desktop? Not as wallpaper but as a file. iPhoto 09.
I had tried dragging and dropping before and the file bounced off three times. I then tried an end run. I sent the image to the trash and then put it on Desktop. What I got was a clipping, but WITH the image. However when I moved the file to a folder, all I got was a clipping, no image. That is when I submmitted my question.
I then kept on trying. The drag and drop finally produced a null with the full sized image. But, when I transferred the image to a folder, all I got was a thumbnail. But i overcame that by typing in a file name (as opposed the the "null"), and then I got a real live, full-sized file in the folder.
You were both right. And, thanks both for encouraging me to keep on trying. All is well.
If it matters, it was a cellphone image. -
Keyword add in any photo's Info crashes iPhoto to desktop
Hello & thanks in advance:
Attempting any keyword add in any photo's Info frame crashes iPhoto to desktop. I can reopen iphoto no problem, but any further attempt to add even an already existing keyword to a photo's information causes another crash to desktop.
Have done the following so far:
- Performed each task in Photo Library First Aid in turn, 4 times.
- Deleted dozens of under-utilized keywords to lighten that portion of the database.
- OSX and all apps kept up to date thru App Store.
- Time Machine backups working & available.
Question: Is there a method to restore only iPhoto keywords from backup, as a "JIC that works" next step?
I have EtreCheck and can post output (but will wait until/if requested).
Thanks again.Thanks LarryHN:
iPhoto Crash Dump Aug 27 2014:
Any attempt to add KEYWORDS, new or existing, to a photo that either already has keywords or not, results in the following crash & dump.
*Pls Note: This continues to occur after deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, in User/Home/Library/ Preferences and folder User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto, rebooting and reopening iPhoto.

I have the OS X Lion version 10.7.5 and after a new hard drive I have lost iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band etc. I have tried the re-install of the OS X Lion and checking the app store under 'purchases' but none of these options were successful.
When I click on iPhoto in the App Store, it says that it cannot update because version 10.9 is required (I tried to transfer iPhoto from my brothers computer but he has a newer laptop which means I cant open it whcih is why it says 'update' but have deleted it now). When I go to iMovie on the App Store, it says I need to pay but the only reason I dont want to do that is that it origionally came on the computer and after paying Apple to install a new hard drive I dont want to have to pay for all the apps that origionally come on it.
Can someone please helpThen you will need the Original System Reinstall DVD discs that came with the system to reinstall the iLife suite of apps then you can update them from the Mac app store or through Software Update.
Those discs came in the box the computer came in. Hopefully you still have the box and those discs.

I think it might have come with snow leopard because I bought it at the time of the introduction of the new soft ware so they gave me a password to dowload it for free -
Had my hard drive replaced today and I have just upgraded the previos system to mountain lion and lost iPhoto. Also I purchased aperture from the store previously and its not showing up as bought for me to re download. what do I do please?
Have now found that aperture was a hidden purchase and installed it.. thanks all

Screensaver configuration problem with lost iPhoto library
Hi, I justed switched my macbook and I used to have another iPhoto library in an external HD that is now gone. I cannot configure the screensaver, I think it searches for my lost iPhoto library and cannot select my current pictures. Can someone help me with this problem? Thanks.
If the rebuild doesn't help try Fix 101: make a temporary, backup copy of the library if you don't already have a backup copy and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

Just did a clean install and lost iPhoto
I just did a clean install of Mountain Lion and now iphoto is gone. I see it in the app store but it says it will cost $14.99. How do I get it back for free? I do not have the disks that came with my macbook pro either.
Hi I lost iPhoto, Grage Band iMovie and iWeb This came with my macbook. (early 2011)
I was on the phone with apple care. No help?
So I used my orginal disks use the one that says applacations software. I had Snow Leperod
I reinstalled this with ML 10.8.1 on my system.
All came back and when I hit for updates it did for all of them:)

I had the HD changed in my ibook G3 and lost iphoto that was on it. I cant figure out where or how to put it back on the computer. Is it on the original disk that came with the machine. I sure dont want to screw things up, it took me a year to get the HD fixed.
Should I download it from somewhere on apple or oldapps.com
Thanks in advance for adviceYes - it is on the original restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install - bundled software only - for more details click here for the MacWorld write up.
