Lost sound when end of movie reached

Hi All.
Have a slight dilemma here - Occasional - my apple TV will quit outputting any sound when I reach the end of a movie (either through fast forward / chapter scan forward / or normal play to end of movie).
I can tell there is no sound output because the receiver changes the display to tell me what channels are being passed to it - and the receiver says there are zero channels of sound. I also have the menu clicks turned on.
I've had the apple TV for about two months now - with the latest update installed. I am using composite video cables and optical audio to my Yamaha AV receiver (863) - then passing video only to the TV (Old 28" Sony Wega) via composite cables. The apple TV sits in a well ventilated position in my AV furniture (open to the air with no components above or below it).
This occurs for only some video - some video works fine. All video streaming has been encoded with HandBrake 0.9.3. All Video has the same audio / video settings, all video has chapters embedded.
I have made a change in my streaming recently - I moved itunes + all content to a Windows Home Server (HP EX-490) - this is the only change from my previous streaming (which never showed this problem).
Once the sound issue appears and the apple tv quits outputting sound to the receiver - no sound is available - however - I can continue to stream video / audio and everything appears to play fine - with the exception of no sound. To rectify the problem - I have to unplug the apple tv for 5-10 seconds - plug it back in - and sound output has returned (I haven't tried the Menu + Back trick yet to see if that works as well).
I'm leaning away from the change in servers being my issue since it still streams and just losses sound. Anyone else ever see anything like this? Could it be an Apple TV issue / heat issue / encode issue?

I think it's an audio conversion issue with certain streams.
If I run some HD captures from my CAnon camera through handbrake direct I lose several seconds of audio at the end, so I think it's a problem processing audio/video streams in some circumstances.

  • Lost sound when upgraded to Windows

I lost sound when I upgraded my Gateway Solo250 from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home. On Device manager, the systems reports that my sound controls are working but the Multimedia Audio Controller is not installed (Problem 28). I have downloaded drivers from Gateway and from Creative Labs Sound Blaster Li've but can not install them. I get the error message that no sound card is being detected. What happened? How do I fix this without messing up anything else, since the computer is operating smoothly, except without sound. Thanks for your help!

I have the exact same problem. I got numbers off of the creative chip on the motherboard, if that helps to get a solution. Gateway lists that XP is not supported on solo250. Creative is the only source that can solve this, since all of these companies laid off all of the developers. Did you find any help at all? I would hate to go back to win98...

  • Why does my sound when watching a movie in itunes fall behind?

Im running Windows 7 64bit and when I watch movies in iTunes, the sound starts running slow.  It gets so bad that it starts cutting out.  If I pause it and hit play again, it goes right for a minute and then starts over again.  Thoughts?

  • Scratchy sound when playing a .mov file in QuickTime

I just got a new camcorder (Insignia NS-DV1080P) and took a video that is about 33 minutes long. I uploaded it to my mac, into iphoto, and when I try and play it in QuickTime, the picture is great, but it is very scratchy sounding. When I plug the camcorder directly into my tv, the sound is fine. When I play it back from the camcorder, the sound is fine. Please help with what I am doing wrong and how I can fix this.

What I have always done is to add a Build In of Start Movie automatically after transition. Then add a Build Out of Stop Movie and adjust the delay to fit the timing of the movie. There are two problems with this technique.
First, the delay can only go up to 60 seconds. So if you have a longer movie, you need to add a shape, set the fill and line to none and then add build ins and build outs (or actions) to equal the time needed to fit the length of the movie. For example, if you have a 3 minute movie, you can set the build out for 60 seconds, but then need to add 2 minutes worth of other actions to fill the time, so the build out happens at the end of the movie.
The other problem is that if your movie is exactly 96 seconds and you have 96 seconds of builds, it might not still quite end right at the same time. There seems to be a bit of difference in the time from the movie and the builds. So you might have to play with the delays a little to get it to work just right.
    Hope that helps.

  • Lost sound when convert Quicktime video to ipod video

    Hi,
when I use iTune to conveert a video file from quicktime (or others) to ipod/iphone video file I lost the sound!
    I'll appreciate any help!
    Thanks!

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

but there are other applications besides MPEG Streamclip you can try as well.

  • Distortion with sound when viewing burned movie from idvd

I created a movie in iMovie that included tracks from iTunes and exported it to create the dvd in iDVD.
When viewing it in iMovie, it sounds great.
When I exported and viewed the movie in iDVD, it sounds great.
But after I burn the dvd and view it on any of my tv's, the sound is distorted. I've tried playing the settings in iMovie changing the track volume to a lower setting but that isn't helping.
    Can anyone help?

I had a similar problem. Some of the music in my movie was distorted playing on my TV. Burning the dvd in disk utility did not make a difference, but the file was 3 times larger. Anyway while trouble-shooting I found that it played much better through the HDMI cable as opposed to the component cables. It also played ok on my older TV through the AV cables. So it is either my component out jacks on my dvd player or my component cable. I have noticed other dvd's that I made from my Imac do play very loud on all my TV's.

  • IPhone earbud microphone/clicker: Beep sound when ending call is VERY faint

I sometimes use the iPhone earbuds to make calls. Ever since the release of iPhone software version 2.2, the beep sound that one hears when hanging up a call using the microphone/clicker is VERY faint. Now when I use the headset to make calls, I can barely even hear the beep when I end a call. I checked with another friend of mine who also uses his earbuds to make calls and he noticed the same thing.
Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know of a solution? I tried blowing out any lint that may have accumulated in the earphone jack, but this did nothing to improve the situation.

Yes! Mine does it too,I miss the louder beep,on top of it I have to use head phones because Bluetooth headsets don't work anymore since 2.2,I can hear others but they don't hear me.

  • No sound when played mpeg movie on ipod

I converted mpeg movie files to ipod format thru Quicktimepro, when i played this file on ipod then the sound did not come, only video was coming.....can please someone tell me what should i do?????

QuickTime Pro (and iTunes) doesn't export audio from muxed formats (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash).

  • No sound when streaming purchased movies

I suspect this is a recent software and/or iTunes update bug.  When I try to stream a purchased movie through ATV, there is no sound via HDMI.  Same movies worked fine last week before updates.  The TV (Sharp Aquos) indicates "incompatible audio signal."  Now here's the crazy thing - when I try to stream the same movies via Home Sharing from my computer, same thing!  Netflix seems to work fine, as does previews and trailers from Apple.  No problems streaming from my computer to iPad1 or 2, or downloading to iPads. I've done all the restarts, resets, and re-authorizations.  Any other suggestions for a workaround or do I have to wait until the next update?  Is it posible to reload the previous version of ATV software and iTunes?

Not really sure I would call it a bug, if your TV can't handle Dolby Digital and can't let the Apple TV know that, then Dolby Digital needs to be turned off.

  • IPhone 3GS Has Lost Sound When Phoning

My wife has a 3GS she bought in July of this year. A few weeks ago, she noticed that she could not use it to make or receive any phone calls because there was no sound, so she could not hear the person on the other end of the call. If she uses the speaker phone option it works, but this means everyone close by can hear it too. We called the APPLE 1-800 line and were told to try resetting the iPhone through iTunes (back to factory settings) but it still will not work. The lady from APPLE made it sound as if it might cost us money to have it fixed, which makes no sense to me. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    HI,
so she could not hear the person on the other end of the call.
When in a call, make sure mute isn't activated.

  • TS3297 no sound when viewing HD movie from iTunes via Apple TV?

Recently added AppleTV to the home theater (via HDML).  Downloaded HD movie from iTunes, but there's no sound.  Pretty picture, just no sound.  Other AppleTV functions have sound (movie previews, Hulu), and viewing photos and listening to songs from MacBook work fine.  Any suggestions?

I turned off "Dolby Digital" - now it´s working!

  • No sound when watching downloaded movies on TV Go App

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 with the TV Go App installed. It used to work fine, but it no longer plays sound on downloaded movies, regardless of which quality of video is downloaded. Is there a fix for this issue? My volume is not on mute and head phones/speakers work for all other functions.

Not sure why you asked the question here since it has nothing to do with the AirPort Express (AX) nor wireless networking.
You should post your question in the iPod touch discussion area.

  • QT does not have sound when play AVI movies

I can not get any sound in my .AVI films in QT.
I have QT Pro 7.6.5 as well as QT 10.
The films play WITH sound in my VLC player but want them to work in QT as well so I can watch them is sound via my Apple TV.
I run the latest Mac software, versions etc. I have installed Perian as well as 3ivx (have a 30 day trial version that is still in the trial period so should work).
What is further getting on my nerves is that my mother in law has the same MacBook Pro as me with the same programs and she GETS the sound in her QT Pro 7.6.4.
I have checked her settings and downloads and can not find any differences (even copied her QT to my MacBook in case there was an error with mine)...
ANY help or advise highly appreciated.
    Merry x-mas,
    Kenneth

Very poor audio format used in the file (1/4 of the standard sample rate and mono). But I don't have any troubles with it (the audio codec) on my machine.
Some oddball info surrounds your file. The 24 fps frame rate suggests "premium" quality video at HD dimensions yet the audio is highly compressed.
The Perian component is like a "Swiss army knife" (has all kinds of options) and if it can't help your file there may not be much other help for it.
Can you tell us more about the source (where you got the file)?
