Low ip pofile since exchange upgrade

Just seeking some advice on the following please:
I have had a good stable broadband connection for over a year (around 3.5Mbps downstream). My local exchange (Bishop's Stortford) was upgraded Monday 29th November.  Homehub (2A) reset.  Currently I have the following:

It's been connected over 3 days and the downstream and upstream figures have been constant throughout.  However the IP profile (from BT speedtester checks) has been 350kbps since the exchange upgrade.  My questions are would the IP profile be expected to start so low and should it have risen by now?  Do I leave it longer?  Note: nothing in my setup has changed.  This is directly related to the exchange upgrade.  Any help much appreciated.  Thanks.

OK thanks - but would the ip profile be expected to start so low compared with the ADSL synch?
Email BT sent regarding upgrade said:
Your line needs time to settle down
For the next ten days or so, your broadband might slow down or even stop now and again. That’s normal and your speed will soon settle down. You can help it along by leaving your BT Home Hub or router on all the time and using your broadband as much as you can for this period.
but no mention that it might be virtually unusable for up to 10 days.

  • Broadband very slow since exchange upgrade

Ever since BT "upgraded" my local exchange a couple of weeks ago, my broadband speed has dropped dramatically.
I'm now only getting around 0.3 mbps, which is ridiculous.
    Will this improve at all?
Did the exchange upgrade cause this?
Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks.

  • Constant interruptions since Exchange Upgrade

I used to have an 8Mbit connection until a couple of weeks ago when our local exchange was upgraded. I'm a couple of gardens away from the exchange so there shouldn't be much attennuation.
Unfortunately, since the upgrade I get about 18-19Mbit/s but the connection is dropping out regularly. Strangely, it fails most often during the day and was fine all weekend. It's almost like they are still screwing around with the kit at the exhange and regularly resetting it.
Here are my current stats since I reset the BT Home Hub 3 myself a while ago. I have seen the hub reset itself and occasionally when I check it has just reset itself again.
BTW, I have it plugged into the test socket of the BT Openretch master socket.
Any idea why this might be happening? Could it be that my Home Hub 3 just can't handle running at this speed?

  • Speed getting lower every day since adsl2+ upgrade

Background : My router has always from day 1 been switched off at 11pm at night and turned back on at 7am in the morning. With adsl max I consistently had a download speed of 850Kb/s
2 weeks ago my line was upgraded after a phone call to BT, initially everything was great, speeds were not much better for the first coupld of days (950Kb/s) but then shot up to 1250Kb/s for a few days. Since then however my line has been getting slower every day. Today is the worst and I am now getting 690Kb/s.
I know I'm going to get the usual "leave router connected for 3 day" answer of someone, but what does this achieve ? If my line says connected at 6.5Mbps and I leave it on for 3 days solid does that mean 3 days of being stuck at that speed or does the line recalculate connection speed at certain intervals ?

Thats my line stats as it stands , down from 11Mbps connection a week ago . Cannot connect to the main socket as where the line comes in the house is just a blank faceplate with a cable coming out the bottom into a smaller box then out and accross the room to the only phone socket in the property.
At this rate I would have been better staying on my old package instead of being made to take out a new contract at less favourable terms.

Nothing but a phone connected to the line. The sky box has never been connected to the line as last year when we got a Sky HD box slowed the connection right down.
As for the router being on for the 10 days, no one ever said that to me. The only reason I know that turning it off daily could be a negative was through this forum.
As for my original question. If I now leave the router on permanately does it reconfigure the connection istelf or does it have to be reset every now and then. Very frustrating going from 850Kb/s on adslmax to 1200+ then down to sub 700.
I am unable to run a speed test at the moment , but with only the homehub connected to the master socket the results look like much the same , The hub seems to be connecting at bang on 6.5Mbs every time so I assume the line has been set to this by the DLM ? How long on ADSL 2 does it take to work its way back up ? I ran a speed test earlier today and I belive my IP profile was 5.85 or some such , why would it be set so low when the line was happy at 10+ last week ?

  • A month of problems since exchange ADSL2+ upgrade

    Hi
    Long story short:
At the start of the month my exchange, Newcastle (NINE), was upgraded to 21CN. As a result my connection speed was upped from 8mb to 20mb. When on the 8mb speed I had NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER with speed or reliability of connection.
However, since the exchange upgrade it has been totally awful. Disconnects, ridiculously low speeds at varying times of day with no logical pattern and HH3 automatically restarting. I have been in touch with BT Care who are "monitoring" the situation, but I have reached my wits end now after a month of this.
On their instruction have carried out all tests etc, have had 2 different engineer visits who confirm the line is good, pointing to an exchange problem. One engineer interestngly stated off the record that BT are fully aware of this and it is an exchange wide problem with 21CN implementation.
Anyway any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. HH3 status below:
PS. I am using a wired connection to my laptop.

    Stephen

    welcom to the forum
looking at your stats you have a very high number or errors particularly crc and hec for only 1+ day connection.
are you connected directly to the master or test socket or have you a filtered faceplate.  do you have other sockets in your home
have you tried quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should hear nothing and best with corded phone   if cordless dull hum is normal

Hi. 1 year of homehub3 speeds usually 3-4 meg. I receive an email telling me of the exciting news of an exchange upgrade. Unfortunately I now have at best 0.5 meg. Hey imjolly. Cheers for the reply. The connection time is low because I have been through the obligatory power cycle procedures and I also disconnected the bellwire etc to try and solve the problem. India CC Rang me back today. When I told them I had seen no improvement he said he would sort it. As you can see I think the numbers look a little more healthy. Just hope the speed stays like this! • Slow broadband speed after exchange upgrade

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help.  My local exchange was 'upgraded' on 14th August, immediately following that my Broadband speed has halved and never recovered, I used to get approx 7Mbps connection speed with a 5.8 ~ 6.3 Mbps down load speed.  SInce then and upto now I only get a connection speed of approx 3.3Mbps with a download speed of around 2.8Mbps.
Since we have BT Vision this is now close to the limit of what it requires to work for on demand content.
I have spoken to BT Technical on a number of occasions.  At first they told me it was my router (HomeHub V1) and that I could have a new one if a signed up for another 12 months.  Since I doubted this and I also had a Home Hub V1.5 router I swapped to this router and it gave the same results!  This was on the 7th September.
Since then I have spoken to BT Technical on a number of occasions, always this involves the same path - get asked whether I have tried different microfilter, connection to the main socket blah blah.  Then they check the exchange, it comes up with a CC12 ADQ error, they ask BT Wholesale to investigate, BT Wholesale clear the error, BT technical ring back, ask me if speed is any better, tell them no, they say they will reset the line profile, this makes no difference!
If I ring again then we just go round in the same circle again.
Has anyone got any ideas or can someone sort this out, fed up of pointless phone calls at the moment!
Here are the line statistics from the BT Home Hub (V1.5) as things currently stand.:

Well 12 days later and still no improvement.  Changed back to the homehub V1.0 (10 days ago) as the Homehub V1.5 was to unstable and kept dropping connection every few hours.
Spoke to BT technical last Sunday, they agreed to send me a new HomeHub in the end.  This has now been lost / stolen during delivery - what a farce.  Spoke to BT Technical again last night, went through the same sets of testing same results.  Technical this time said I shouldn't have been sent a new homehub anyway as I was not in contract!
Reading through this forum and others it seems that there are a lot of people reporting speed issues (speed halving from original sync/download speed) when exchange has been upgraded to ADSL 2+ and the home hub is V1.0 or V1.5.
The tech i spoke to last night seemed to think it was the homehub but said i wouldn't get another one unless I signed a new contract.  Told him there was no way I would sign a new contract when their customer service was so poor and they are unable to resolve problems.
He stated he would reset the I.P. profile.  This morning download SNR has shot up to 30db (has got down to 18db) last night and sync speed was lower.
It seems to me that BT know there is an issue with HH V1.0 and V1.5 and ADSL 2+ but rather than send you a new router ask that you sign up to a new contract.  This seems partly a ruse just to tie people into another 12 month contract.
My neighbours have the same set up and are experiencing the same problems since the exchange upgrade!

  • HT4628 I am no longer able to iTunes wi-fi sync since I upgraded to the iPhone 5. Can anyone help me with this issue? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I am no longer able to iTunes wi-fi sync since I upgraded to the iPhone 5. When trying to connect, it stays in the discovery mode and never connects.I have to try and pair them all over again. Then I get a message saying that my Mac Book Pro is not supported. Can anyone assist me in resolving this issue. It is an early Mac Book Pro 10 I believe. I purchased it in February of 2010.

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

2 GB of RAM is pretty tight. I imagine that's at the very low end of what Yosemite wants, which could slow things down.
As far as scroll direction, you can always change it in the trackpad settings. Unsure why it got flipped, but you can fix it in about 5 seconds. Choose "natural" (or don't) depending on how you like it.

  • Some events off by one day in iCal since new upgrade

Since the upgrade, some of my calender events show up one day earlier. There is no true pattern and sometimes they are correct which makes it REALLY hard to know what is correct.
I use Exchange to sync all my calenders from Google. I don't know if this is a google problem or an IOS one.  Some of the subscribed calenders are right, but some are not.
    It's really frusterating.
Other discussions involve the birthday calender problem or multi-day event problems but this is just weird and different.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Couldn't find this so started a new discussion, with the "fix" that Tech Support helped me figure out.

  • Dictate key not displayed on iPad keyboard since I upgraded to iOS8.1

Since I upgraded to iOS8.1 yesterday, the dictate key has not been displaying on my keyboard.  It used to be displayed at the lower left, but that key is now the key for alernate keyboards, symbolized by a happy face (this does not make me happy).

I found that the dictate key is displayed on the keyboard when I'm writing email.  It is not displayed when I share a photo by email.  Since this is not something I do often, I think it's something I can live with.  It doesn't seem worth pursuing it.  Thanks again for your suggestions.  Your instructions for triggering a reset may come in useful for other purposes in the future.

  • Exchange upgrade causing issues with internal wiri...

Recently our exchange was upgraded to accommodate bt infinity and at the same time our broadband started playing up. we called bt and I spent 1.5 hours checking and re checking equipment with the call center. Tests were done with the hub at either end of the internal wiring. All the tests were still showing faults even with hub connected to the test socket. They asked me to leave connected for 24 hours while they monitor the line. They promised to call me back which they did not. I called them again the following day to be told I should have left the hub in the test socket which I was not told the previous day. I then had to wait 48 hours while they monitored the line this time in the test socket. All the tests still showed the fault was still there so an engineer called out.
The hub was still in the test socket when engineer arrived and the first thing he did was hook up his test equipment to the test socket and he stated there and then that there was nothing wrong with the line but it had been throttled down. 2 minute phone call and 10 minutes later broadband was back and working perfectly at the test socket. He checked the internal extention and the faults were being thrown up by an extension that has been in place for 10 years +. He stated to me that the new equipment installed in the exchange was more advanced and did more line checks so, although this equipment has been used for Internet with BT for 10 years it is no longer adequate.
All of this I find understandable but the whole way that BT handled this from day 1 of my first call has been appalling. BT openly admitted that the original engineer calls were handled badly and we were credited £9 for the lack of services we had for overly long time. However we are now, 2 months after this, faced with nearly £130 charge for the engineer visit which, looking back with the info I have now, was completely unnecessary. Had the engineers on the phone bothered to reset the line while hub was in the test socket when they were allegedly monitoring it for 48 hours they could have told me there were no faults on their equipment up to the socket and I would have sorted out the internal wiring myself. Even now I can find mention on the Internet of old wiring causing issues but no specific posts to do with exchange upgrades potentially meaning that you need to upgrade internal wiring or mention by the BT call center itself on any of the calls I made to them. All I was told was that everything up to the main box is BT and everything after that mine but since we have made no changes to the wiring we did not think it was applicable until the engineer arrived and told us what he told us then. Yesterday I called Bt again around 9am to dispute the charge. I was informed that because the fault was with our equipment the charge stands. I explained all of the above and I had my case put to the review team. I was told I would get a call back within 4 hours which I did but the phone rang 3 times and as I answered they hung up. I then got a text saying they had tried to call and asked for me to call back which I did to be told that his computer wasn't working. He took my details and said someone would call me back which no one did. I chased again to be told that someone would definitely call me that day. No one did. I chased again today to be told the decision still stands. He has put to final review and promised a call back within 5 days. Until this is resolved direct debit is cancelled. To the letter of the contract we have with BT this is our charge to pay I know that but this could have been avoided if the information was out there on the net, if the original checks done over the phone were done correctly or if I had been told this directly by Bt themselves prior to the engineer being called out which is why I am posting this here so hopefully no one else falls into this trap.

You're right I'm not connected to the BT infinity cabinet. But the BT Infinity cabinets all still route back through the exchange that I am connected to -

What this modem does is connects using VDSL from your home to the VDSL cabinet using the existing copper wires, on to the DSLAM, back to the exchange (over the fibre) and on to BT’s core network.
Your phone line is then still terminated in the original cabinet for telephony (using the cross connect between the old and new cabinets I mentioned above) and back to the exchange over the original multi pair copper cable as it always has done.

FTTC involves BT Openreach installing a new street cabinet near to the existing one and linking the two. They run optical fibre from the exchange to the new cabinet then link individual lines from the old cabinet to the new one and back to get VDSL2 onto the copper connection to the premises. The PSTN phone connection continues to operate over the pre-existing cable from the old cabinet to the exchange.  It does not get put onto the fibre connection.
In other words the linkage is Exchange >> Old >> DSLAM in New >> Old >> Premises. (Traffic in both directions of course!)
Presumably the equipment in the exchange cannot stay as it is and is upgraded in the process?

  • Since the upgrade to IOS7, the default phone label when adding new contacts on my iPhone 5 is "Radio".  Previously the default was "Mobile" how can this be changed back to "Mobile"?

Since the upgrade to IOS7, the default phone label when adding new contacts in my iPhone 5 is "Radio". Previously the default was "Mobile". It is a hassle as when my iPhone contacts are synched with Outlook via Exchange, the phone number I've entered on the iPhone doesn't show on the default Outlook view as it is a "Radio" number rather than a "Mobile", "Work", "Home", etc number. It is still stored both on the iPhone & in Outlook & I can still use the number to phone or SMS, it is just incorrectly labelled & hence the source of frustration.
Apple please return the default to "Mobile" or alternatively find a way we can alter the default ourselves to "Mobile" or "Home" etc.

  • I've gone thu all of the tweeks to get firefox to use less cpu, but its still a hog since i upgraded to maverick

since i upgraded to maverick, firefox uses btwn 30 -60% of cpu causing my whole system to run sluggish. i've gone thru all the tweeks suggested with no improvement.
safari, on the other hand, uses 10-15% cpu.
    what is the problem?

i updated to ff25 (i am on auto update, however, it was not updated) & it seems to help some. (cpu runs a little lower, but still spikes in the 60% range) compared to safari which doesn't seem to hog as much.

Just seen a TV ad based on Plusnet boasting more customer satisfaction that Sky, Virgin and TalkTalk. Anyone know why BT subsidiary Plusnet didn't include BT in that list? You can click the white star next to this message if you think it was helpful.
