LR 3.6 Catalogue unable to be optimized

In Lightroom 3.5 and now 3.6 every attempt to optimize my catalogue results in the error message "Your catalog was not optimized and Lightroom must restart.  Lightroom will check the catalog for damage when it resumes."
Lightroom resumes, and everything seems fine (but giving optimization another try results in the same failure).  I have backed up my catalog successfully by NOT allowing it to optimize after saving.  LR managed a successful optimization 2/14/12, but now it's not working.
I found one previous post (from 2009) stating a similar problem. They fixed it by going to Edit -> Preferences -> File Handling -> and purging the Camera RAW cache and increasing the cache setting.  Mine was 1.0 GB, and even increasing it to 15 GB has made no difference.
Any advice is much appreciated!
Machine specs:
Lightroom version: 3.6 [795620]
Operating system: Windows 7 Business Edition
Version: 6.1 [7601]
Application architecture: x64
System architecture: x64
Physical processor count: 4
Processor speed: 2.5 GHz
Built-in memory: 8181.8 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 8181.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 223.9 MB (2.7%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 208.3 MB
Memory cache size: 140.5 MB
System DPI setting: 96 DPI
Desktop composition enabled: Yes

You triggered an idea.  The catalog had been residing on my laptop's main drive (unable to be optimized).  I ended up loading an identical back-up copy of my catalog on an external drive into LR, and chose to optimize that catalog within LR.  It worked.  I moved the original catalog into a separate directory (just in case) and then copied the newly-optimized catalog onto my laptop's hard drive (in the place where it usually resides).
I was able to then run LR using this optimized catalog, and successfully backed it up onto the laptop drive without incident (successfully optimizing the catalog again).
So, I think you are right in that there are some bad sectors or something hardware related in my case.
Success.  Thank you.

  • How can I get correct English spelling in Lightroom 3 (UK/Canada)

I tried to download the software from the UK site and the Canadian one but it kept sending me to the US site.  All I want is the 'u' in colour!  Is there proper spelling in another version out there and if so, how can I get it instead?
    A 'u'!  My kingdom for a 'u'!

FYI: For anyone else trying the translation file solution.
As brilliantly suggested by Dorin above, I modified a number of 'en' translation files in the Lightroom 3 installation.  I didn't have the 'en' directory under the 'Resources' directory but found that if I created this directory and put another translation file in it, Lightroom picked it up when loading.
All I ended up having to do was to add the specific lines I wanted modified.  For anyone interested, here are the contents of that file so far.  There may be minor mistakes as nothing translates from another language perfectly.

  • Lightroom failed to export

I was running LR2 on a vista machine and everything was working  great.
I moved over to WIN7 32 bit re installed/updates for PC and LR everything was fine until i came to export!
All files are located on internal drives, no problems with missing files etc but say for example: i wanted to export 400 files to a new folder jpeg/resize/ rename, it continues to miss files in the output folder leaving empty files(renamed) and reporting  (photos that failed to export) it might be 30 files or 200, there is no pattern at all.I have tried it with the existing file name/no resizing and different combinations of all the options but istill happens.
I have just moved again to WIN7 64 bit and the same thing is happening , im running a AMD Quad core with 4GB ram (same machine)
Any help would be great as i need to batch rename for clients wedding photos and its driving me mad, i am having to do it in another program and  this is not how it should be.
    Kind regards
    Phil

    Jeff.
Yes its not my most favored program at the moment, the catalogue had priviously  been optimized and all the filters are definitely off but it still does it.
I had a poor work around which was to export the files i wanted in a file with there original filename and keep over writing the empty files until they were all in there, then send them to a program that did actually work and rename etc in there, not practical but worked.
The group of files that has really hacked me off is a wedding done 3 weeks ago with a friend, my 2 Canon cameras were synced and her Nikon was way off! by 1 year and 1 hour so this was just the start of all my problems, i changed all the file times and dates so they were in the correct order within LR but when i came to export i was screwed! I could not mass export/rename etc as it misses multiple files and i could not use my work around method as the whole group of Nikon files would come before mine(due to the file names). The client kept asking about the pictures so i had to sit there and actually rename and export 5-10 files at a time!! and it still would miss the occasional file......The 440 files took hours, but i had to do it!
Thank you for your input be unfortunatly no its nackered some how.

  • Elements crashes upon opening

I installed Elements 11 and immediately after opening (I can see my pictures) it closes.  Same thing started happening with Elements 9 which is why I upgraded.

I was the one having similar problems to yours and have finally got PSE11 working.  I had another thread started yesterday regarding the inability to show photos.  I was only getting the hourglass symbol as well. It turns out the problem was due to a corrupted thumbnail cache.  The solution was to open the Catalogue Manager and then go to repair the catalogue.  I also optimized the catalogue and after doing so, all of the thumbnails displayed.  I then closed PSE11 and on reopening the program, my photos are displayed in the organizer.  Hope this helps.

  • Unable to access my LR catalogue...

Hi, I am trying to access my LR catalogue but get: "The Lightroom catalog named “Lightroom 3 Catalog” cannot be opened because another application already has it opened".  As far as I know, there is no other application open.  I am therefore unable to access my 30.000 odd photos...
I have been using LR 3.6 for the past 3 years and am a full time photographer.  I have been to my Apple store to try and sort this problem -  they have replaced both Lacie ext HD which hold and back up my catalogue but are unable to do anything more.  I have been redirected to Adobe.

Go to the folder where your catalog is located. As well as the large catalog file, Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat, there will also be a small file named Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat.lock. The .lock file is created every time LR is launched and deleted when it is properly closed and its purpose is to prevent two instances of the catalog being open simultaneously. However, if the computer crashes or is force closed the .lock file remains there and prevents LR from being launched. Delete the .lock file and LR should open normally, but be careful not to delete the catalog file.

  • Unable to upgrade a LR1 or an LR2 Catalogue in LR3 or LR4

Unable to upgrade a LR1 or an LR2 Catalogue in LR3 or LR4.  Both LR3 and LR4 try to upgrade the LR1/LR2 Catalogs but then give an error message saying it is unable to upgrade the catalog just before opening.  Can anyone help?  I'm using all updated versions....

    Problem solved
There maybe a problem upgrading a catalogue from PowerPC to an Intel.  I finally mangaged to open my (PowerPC) LR1 catalog in (Intel) LR4 by installing the trial version of LR2 on the Intel, opening the LR1 catalog in LR2, and then opening the new LR2 catalog in LR4 which will then upgrade it.  Problem solved.
    LR2 can be downloaded here:

iBooks opens but not on the catalogue page whereby I can open my books ab read way I have purchased ?

    Hi Nitish,
Thanks for your reply. Infact I only coded the event handler. In the first line, I am reading the entity from the collection wrapper of the context node. If it is bound, only then I can set it in EDIT mode.
    ob_entity ?= me->typed_context->notes->collection_wrapper->get_current( ).
    IF ob_entity IS BOUND.
Sets the view in EDIT mode
Now, ob_entity is null if there is initially no data in the notes section of the confirmed account. However, if notes is not empty, then, ob_entity is bound and I can set the view to edit mode. This is the issue.

  • Unable to delete request from write-optimized DSO (Error during rollback)

    Hi Gurus,
I am trying to delete a delta request from a Write-Optimized DSO. This request was uploaded with a DTP from another Write-optimized DSO.
The actual overall status of the request is RED and the description of that status is now: 'Error during rollback of request DTPR_4JW6NLSVDUNYY3GTD6F4DQJWR; only rollback allowed'.
I checked the log of all Request Operations in DataStore (from the same line where the red request is now) and I see my several attemps to delete this request under a RED radiobutton with the title Rollback.  The details for this error are the following:
Could not delete request data from active table
    Message no. RSODSO_ROLLBACK114
    Diagnosis
The system could not delete the request data from the active table of a write-optimized DataStore object.

  • Unable to delete data target contents of Write-Optimized DSO in Process Chain

    Hi Experts,
We are using SAP Net Weaver BW 7.01 version and we need to delete the entire data target contents of Write-Optimized DSO in the process chain before the next data load.
I included this step in process chain but still it is failing with errore message"Message not found (in main memory), Drop Cube Failed In Data Target"
This process type is working during BW 7.0 version but not in BW 7.01 version.
However i found that we can use the program RSSM_DELETE_WO_DSO_REQUESTS to delete old requests in the Write-Optimized DSO for BW 7.01 SP07 as per SAP Note 1437407 but still it's not working even after implementing this program as the Prerequisite to delete the request is the data mart status should be updated where it is not happening for the program.
We had an process type option to 'delete the requests from Write-Optimized DSO' directly in BW 7.3 but still not available in 7.01 version.
Could you please suggest me on how to resolve this issue in BW 7.01?
Many thanks for your help in advance.
    Regards,
    Madhu

Create ABAP program as attached code.
Then you can use that ABAP program in process chains through ABAP variant
ABAP varaint should have following properties
Select call mode as Synchronous; call from Local; and Program
Give your ABAP program name in "program name" and create one program variant for each write optimized DSO.
Please refer how to use ABAP program in process chains for further details.
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to open LR4 catalogue after attempting to install LR cc on mac os 10.6.8

Hi - I made a mistake and attempted to install LRcc on mac os 10.6.8. I now understand that this in not supported. Now, when I go back to LR 4, it will open some catalogues, but not the one with the most work in it. Naturally, I have done quite a bit of work since my most recent backup. Any help appreciated.

    Victoria,
Thanks for your reply. It was set to open with LR4.4. Then I tried again to open to show you the error message and it worked fine. I have no idea what I did other than go to yoga.

  • Lightroom V3 unable to import catalogue due to unknown error

    Mac OS X 10.6.4
I have Lightroom V2.6 and V3 beta 2. I have just purchased Lightroom V3 upgrade.
I installed Lightroon V3 and upon first start up imported my V2 catalogue (only one catalogue on V2 exists) - this has worked fine.
I also have a single catalogue on V3 beta 2 that I need to import.
V3 began importing Lightroom catalogue V3 (beta 2) but stopped with the following message:
Lightroom could not import this catalogue because of an unknown error.
I understand from trawling these forums that Lightroom V3 may have a bug in relation to importing duplicate files from previous catalogues but in my case I cannot see any files or folders that have been imported from Lightroom V3 beta 2 - the majority of the folders or files catalogued in V3 beta 2 have never been catalogued in Lightroom V2.
    Any ideas for a fix?

It'sa bug. Duplicate folders prevent the import. You'll have to wait for 3.1 along with the rest of us.
The folks at Adobe know about it, but you can file a bug report if you wsh.

  • I am suddenly unable to open images in the organiser of ape11 and get the "the files are already in the catalogue"

When I click on the items in the folder i receive the message "no media to display".   The images are in the hard drive.   I tried to download previously imported images, clicked "get media" and got the "nothing imported... the files are already in this catalogue" message.   I then took a new photograph, downloaded it to the organiser and it appeared in the Folders List - clicked on the item and again got "no media to display" .   Help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
That sounds as though you have a filter applied - perhaps a star rating search.
On the View menu select Media Types and ensure that all are checked. Also under the View menu select Hidden Files and ensure Show All Files is checked.
If that doesn't display your files, see if there is a All Media button at the top - click on that and then your folder.
If still no success, try closing the organizer and opening it again.

  • Unable to restore catalogue to PSE 7 or 8

I have been through all the Photoshop Elements from Photoshop Album - all have been successful -until now! I recently clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC and installed PSE8. I restored a backup from an external hard disc (from a previously backup PSE7 backed up from Vista previously) which worked for some days and suddenly announced that the catalogue was corrupt and stopped working. I reinstalled PSE 8 and attempted the restoration again a number of times with no success. The photos are restored to the hard disc but not to the Organiser which otherwise seems to work normally except it says: "the watch folder service is unavailable". I also installed PSE7 on my PC but it will not restore from the PSE7 backup.
I have PSE6 on a laptop working normally and backed it up to a hard disc and attempted a restoration to PSE7 on my PC. It finishes with: "Restoration successful" followed by: "Conversion operation failed". I feel that the information is safe on the external hard disc but how do I transfer it to my PC?
I would be grateful for assistance.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
To simplify the troubleshooting, I recommend uninstalling PSE 8, reinstalling PSE 7, and focusing on getting PSE 7 to restore the PSE 7 backup.  Then when you get that working, you can reinstall PSE 8 and convert your catalog.
After uninstalling PSE 8 and reinstalling PSE 7, if the restore still doesn't work, post back here with more precise details about the issue: the location of the backup, the precise command and options you gave to restore, any error messages, the symptoms in the Organizer.

  • Unable to open my LR4 Catalogue suddenly!  Help!

This is the popup I get:
Lightroom cannot use the catalog named
“Lightroom 4 Catalog” because it is not
    writable and cannot be opened.
This could be caused by incorrect permissions or because
another Lightroom application is using the catalog. You
may try to correct the problem or you may select a different catalog.
Choose a DifferentCatalog  | Try Again | Exit
Any idea how I can return to my life as it used to be ?

Made it ot work for now, but still need to resolve how to open a catalog from an external HDD.
Noticed, that all catalogs stopped working, including LR3. Consistent behaviour (failure) accross all HDDs (backups).
Copied the Catalog to desktop, opened it, and it worked fine!
I guess the issue is then with Win7 behviour. The error message gives clue: "incorrect permissions" - now I have no idea how to get aroud this. I use a simple home group LAN. The Drive is connected directly over USB to the system. Anyone who knows how to come around this permission thing in win7 will be really helpful.
